This place has become one of my favorites. My friend and I go to the bar next door on a regular basis, now that I've tried this place it's become a mandatory stop. I went with a group of friends one night even though I wasn't that hungry. I thought I would get some tacos for something small. I went with Birria. You can watch the cook make the food fresh so you know everything is coming out to order. Though they didn't have the traditional juice to dip the tacos were so flavorful. The meat was so tender and had complex flavors. They also came with grilled onions and a pepper. Everything our big group ordered looked good from whole fried fish to steak fries and various tacos and burritos. I also saw a man near us had a giant horchata so I went back to order one. Though it was kind of pricy the amount you get was so big it was worth it. I don't have a really distinct horchata palate so they are either good or bad for me and this one was good. Very cold and refreshing on a summer day. Overall I definitely want to come back when I have a bigger appetite. Based on the name of the restaurant I definitely would get a seafood dish in the future. I would note that on a hot day the restaurant was very warm and didn't seem to have any fans or AC going so that was my only complaint. read more

After packing and moving all day, we were driving up the freeway in our loaded pickup truck, and starving. Open yelp for Mexican food and Mariscos 1 AM was at the top of the list. Ok! Drove a bit off the freeway down Monument Blvd, totally not from this area, so had no idea what to expect. We were a bit apprehensive when pulling up into the very small parking lot, and seeing the tiny restaurant that apparently shares half the building with what looked like a dive bar (older inebriated guy stumbling out as we pulled in, haha.) Our truck fit in with the row of working guy type pickups lined up out front. When we got out of our truck and I saw a woman through the front window patting out fresh tortillas, our hearts jumped for joy, and we knew we had found a good spot. Once inside, they had a huge board with photos of the very limited menu, and the names listed in both Spanish and English, along with the prices. Most of the items were fish, shrimp, or octopus, with a couple of chicken and beef choices. I guess thus the name Mariscos! You order at the front cashier, and pay, then hopefully find a seat! The staff does not show you to a table, it's first come first serve style seating. Luckily, someone left just as we ordered, so I Ran to the booth and sat down! My husband really wanted both shrimp and fish tacos, but they didn't make mixed orders, so he ordered both, thinking they were small tacos. I chose the shrimp quesadilla. They had a cooler case with an assortment of sodas and beers. I saw one of the servers making a drink with some kind of tomato juice or hot sauce, then she poured two bottles of Modelo in each mug, which were rimmed with salt, and probably Tajine spices? Huge, and looked interesting, though I don't drink alcohol. While waiting for our food, we had time to people watch. It seemed that there was a steady stream of local customers getting to go, and a few couples, or groups of younger men or women out for Saturday night eating in. There's around 6 booths, a few tables in the middle, and some bar style seating around the edge. The music was pretty loud, if this bothers you. When the food came, it was sizzling hot, and fresh. The servings were larger than expected, and my husband was surprised to be getting full after just two tacos. The shrimp and fish was very fresh and delicious, and with just the right amount of spicey heat for me, though, admittedly I am not very tolerant of hot foods. It might seem mild to some, but I was super happy that I could enjoy the food without having my mouth on fire the whole time. They had a good choice of hot sauces, and all the plates were served with a big, fresh, whole Jalapeño pepper. And not to forget the Delicious, freshly made tortillas lovingly wrapped around the delicious contents. We were glad to have leftovers to enjoy the next day! We were very happy we took a chance on this place, and we think it will be worth the drive to go here again. If you want some seafood based Mexican food, I highly recommend you try this place, just be aware you may have to wait to sit, or take it to go. read more

This was our favorite restaurant until last week when we arrived before closing and the door was locked. That was fine until an employee opened the locked door and stated that taco bell was open. I was extremely disappointed just now that I came to this establishment. my partner and I went because I was hungry and he was like OK. What do you want and he brought me here I'm the only one that was going to eat. Come to the counter in a woman and went up to her and asked her about the birria cheese order in Spanish because I'm Hispanic as well she looked at me and said that she didn't understand what I was saying and then her coworker walks by and she tells him I don't understand what she's saying so then I say it to him in Spanish and he looks at his coworker and smiles and says I'm sorry I smile and I said it's fine so she asked me to order again in Spanish mind you in Spanish. So I look at her. I'm like OK I'm gonna get an order of that with the juice and then she asked me if I want to get a drink so I said yes I tell her which one then she asked me if I'm gonna order anything else like that's fine like all you guys are sharing. I was like no it's fine. It's only gonna be me. Pay me to pay we go and sit down my order is there without the juice I like I ordered the order with the juice she said no I didn't. Yum! And YUM!!!! This little place is the bomb! And the proof is in the birria! The sauce is thick and seasoned well with tons of beef. You can put that on anything! Highly recommend this place. I love the hard shell tacos with beef and birria, of course. And the super burritos. I prefer the steak - no beans or rice - with everything else ( cheese, sour cream, spicy salsa!). The burritos are really two servings but if you are professional, or hungry, just go for it! They also give you lots of chips and salsa on the side. The salsas are fresh and tasty. They are all delicious. You should probably order in advance as it can take awhile to get the order. Sometimes up to 20 minutes when they're busy! Food and service is good, but for some reason they got rid of the diablo shrimp burrito. The person taking my order got me a side of Diablo sauce, but if that was possible, why not just add it to my burrito for me? I didn't mind the upcharge, and the diablo sauce was delicious, but it wasn't as good as the two or three diablo shrimp burritos I had previously. I emailed them to ask why it was removed but I never got a reply. Parking in the back is fairly spacious, but it's poorly lit so if you're going at night bring a flashlight. The quality of the carne asada bistec and shrimp combo was wonderful. The combo was on the more pricey side but feeds two people (two medium people), the portions of the rice and beans was small. I wish the rice had more flavor. The sauce on the shrimp was spicy and delicious. Finger licking good! The shrimp tacos are hefty! The pineapple water was sweet and refreshing. El molcajete que tienen esta muy sabroso, pero sólo te dan 3 tortillas y son pequeñas. Pedí tortillas extra y pensaron que no las iba a pagar y la dueña mandó decir con el mesero que ya me habían dado tortillas, les dije que iban a ser pagadas no regaladas. Las servilletas dan una por persona, si necesitas algo extra tienes que levantarte de tu asiento porque el mesero nunca vuelve contigo a preguntar si te hace falta algo. El baño está sucio y no tiene la tapa de arriba del toilet para que te sientes, ni papel para cubrir el asiento. Jabón para las manos tuve que pedir porqué tampoco tienen. Para no hacerla más largó el servicio pésimo incluido la dueña que tiene cara de pocos amigos, como si fuera uno a pedir regalado. I've been here about a handful of times now and my boyfriend has been here probably double that.. We LOVE this place! I can't help but order the carne asada tacos every time I come here; they're the best tacos I've had in such a long time! Both the taste and quality of food are UNMATCHED. My boyfriend loves their carne asada plate (it looks so good every time, too). Their handmade tortillas are fire and honestly last time I was there, someone ordered a molcajete and I was bummed it wasn't coming to my table. It looked THAT good.
