One of my girls took me here to have dinner yesterday, It was my first time coming here since I am from the IE not really sure what's out here and I was extremely happy she introduced me to this place. I will be coming back again and again even if it's a drive . The seafood was delicious and I will say that I have not had a place that has Mariscos where everything tastes sooooooo fresh in a long time . The Micheladas were so tasty . Oyster shots were bomb!!! The hostess in the front was super sweet , the bartenders were amazing went above and beyond. The manager Raymond I would like to especially thank for being so kind and amazing at making us feel welcomed and taken care of .... Did not leave disappointed whatsoever. While we waited for our table at the bar he kindly took our drinks to our table and made sure we liked the seating before we decided to move from the bar . Beautiful set up around the restaurant and they have live Banda . The men waiters were all so kind and attentive but the girl waitresses I will say unless you were guys at a table they were not the friendliest or cared to help us that was my only concern I believe no matter your gender everyone should be treated equally and made to feel welcomed ! My friends and I (4 total) went here for dinner last night. The restaurant setting is very nice. They did a great job making it look like an upscale but inviting place. We sat in the covered but open "patio" area. Parking is a bit challenging. The restaurant is on a major street that does not allow street parking. The side street has a few street parking spots. I parked across the small side street in a lot of the adjacent retail center but not sure this is generally okay. Margaritas seemed to be their specialty. I asked about their beer selection, and nothing on draft, just a few brands of bottled beer. My friends and I decided to eat family style so we could try a variety of dishes: Chips & Salsa - 4/5: The house salsa is delicious (a bit on the spicy side). I thought the "chips" (they serve the whole fried tortilla that you can break into chips) were a bit thick and heavy. Ceviche Mitotero - 3/5: For me this was a miss. Some of it was fishy and the textures of the raw shrimp and scallops were not great. Octopus Tacos - 5/5: Wow, was this tasty. Perfectly cooked octopus and the accompaniments and sauce were perfect. Shrimp Tacos: I did not get to try this but my friends said it was as good as the octopus ones. Molcajete Mixto Caliente - 5/5: Quite the presentation! Mix of steak, chicken, bone marrow and bacon-wrapped shrimp comes out in a scorching hot stone bowl. Comes with tortilla and side of beans. Everything was very tasty even though it's a lot of mixture of various proteins. Overall, was very impressed with the restaurant and would look forward to going back. read more

This place was pretty busy coming on a Sunday with live music. We've waited about 40 minutes for a party of three. It was well worth the wait. My wife and I were craving mariscos real bad the other night and because we hadn't gone back to mariscos choix since the new and improved establishment, we decided let's give it a try after a a year or two hehe , It's a BEAUTIFUL restaurant, right side was a bit more quiet the left had music going , Heaters where aligned the top with cute plant deco . The menu was in full Spanish , and I must say i was a bit taken back buy the menus up charge (mind yall I went before the restaurant updated its appearance and expanded into the small parking lot that was provided before ) so remembering the prices before and seeing them now I was like HOLY COW ! but my wife insisted since we never come to restaurant to get whatever I wanted , I was a big fan of the tacos sinaloenses , big juicy shrimp tacos so good ! So I was familiar and ordered again , my wife started us with Botana Camaron con pulpo and ordered tacos de pulpo Zarandeados (both taco orders were an order of 3 ) The botana camaron was SO GOOD a well portioned plated very spicy and overall my favorite part of the meal , But I was so disappointed in my order of tacos The SIZE has most definitely shrunk , I mean I remember eating hearty large tacos , these were far from that . Served with one slice of avocado for the price of 21.99 , 3 tacos !! My wife loved her tacos and they were the same size as mine also 21.99 I also ordered a burro Rojo and would highly recommend for a little drink , Although it was a decent meal unfortunately the portion size don't match the price and for that I have to skip by next dinner time read more

Mariscos Choix is beautiful inside and out. It is large and has lovely decor inside. They maintain the place and it is always clean. Parking is easy. The food is wonderful. I would like to say it is Mexican food, but it is so much more than that. They also have a full bar and serve great cocktails. The Aguashiles negros are amazing. They even have churros. We love their salads and all their taco items. Their empanadas are the best in town. There is something for everyone here. The service is fast and friendly. read more

The food was good but the Michelada was a bit watery. I'm not sure if I would order the michelada here again. A saving grace was Lupita. She brought over Marisco Choix's signature drink, "Escalade." Well I've been here several times before and now that they totally remodeled the place I decided to come back now that it's been remodeled . Ambiance - they go for a tulum type feel like so many restaurants now a days. It's nice decor but music is pretty loud so if you're looking for a nice romantic quiet dinner this is not the place . They have a band most of the time on the weekends. Which makes it hard to see what they're going after since they have TV screens all over . They tried making it a Banda restaurant/ sports bar but you can't hear the band or watch the game due to noise level . The waiting area is bigger than the restaurant and while they serve beer is you want to wait that's all. So you can't go to the bar and wait since it's not open . Service - the service is chaotic they have all these managers walking around and giving different orders . They need to have managers 1 in each are and that's it . They confuse the staff and it's not fair for them . The servers don't come back to see if you need anything they just take your order then come back to charge that it . I had to flag someone down . Drinks - save your money the margaritas while good are $20.00 for a small glass and it's all ice . They don't have a full bar so I couldn't order my drink of choice . Over priced drinks Food- now this is the best part of the place because the food is actually really good. We had tacos sinaloense, ostiones preparados , campechana all delicious and just had the right amount of flavor and spice . Overall they get 3 stars due to their food . If they can fix the kinks out of the restaurant and open the bar and exude what they want or be a sports bar or a Mexican sea food restaurant this can be a great spot . Service - My family and I had the greatest experience as our first time. Our waiter Kevin was awesome and helped explained the menu and popular items. The hostesses and manager was very nice. I finally had the opportunity to try Mariscos Choix on Firestone Blvd in Downey. The restaurant seems to be a popular choice so I was looking forward to a good seafood meal. Upon entering the restaurant I was pleasantly greeted by the staff. The vibe was upbeat with music playing loudly and an inviting dining setup. I am not fluent in Spanish by any means so the Spanish only menu had me guessing about the details of the menu items but I was able to use my phone to access their online dual language menu. Good thing my phone was charged. The menu offerings were mostly unique to me but the server did make some recommendations. There was nothing on the menu that called my attention so I decided to play it safe and order the Marlin empanadas, a side of guacamole and my husband ordered the octopus tacos. There was no iced tea on the menu so instead, I ordered their lemonade. My beverage was very nice. Not your average sweet lemonade. Instead it was subtly sweet and not too acidic. It was refreshing and a perfect accompaniment to the chips and salsa on the table. But sadly, not even their lemonade could put out the fire of the salsa. It was incredibly spicy. I prefer a more medium heat that allows the flavor to come through. But I'm sure many may prefer this more intense heat. The presentation of the Marlin empanadas was nice enough. They were large, fried and simply adorned by sprigs of cilantro and cabbage and a spicy sauce. The fry was well done, not greasy, but the stuffing was meager, mostly cheese with maybe a tablespoon of Marlin in each empanada, and again the spice was too intense for my taste. Overall, I thought this dish was overpriced ($30+) considering how little Marlin was in it. My husband is a big fan of Octopus. He said his octopus was cooked perfectly but unfortunately it was too spicy to enjoy (also overpriced at $30+). Overall, the staff was friendly, the dining setup up was comfortable and lounge like, but the food was just too spicy to enjoy. Lunch for myself and my husband was just under $100 and I left hungry. For me, this is a "one and done." I'm giving them 2 stars for staff and ambiance. read more
