My wife was in the mood for Mariscos... We usually go to Puerto Escondido that is located in Westchester, but I was too lazy to go so she suggested this place that is near her parents house. I've driven past it a million times but never thought to stop in and check it out. The Jesus art in the place is freaky !! I felt like I should go confess or something. Anyways, I ordered Tacos de lengua and Al Pastor for me and a Tostada Mixta (crab, shrimp,octopus, and Abolone) and for the wife I ordered a couple of shrimp ceviche tostadas. I was pretty disappointed. I have had better ceviche from Northgate !! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the best either, and if you know the area, its definetly not worth risking your life for. LOL... I don't know if I would try this again, but I don't think I would recommend it to anyone. read more

Fish tacos for $1.50!! got 2 shrimp tacos, and 1 fish taco for $4, fast service and great taste. Tried their asada burritos, massive burrito for $5.00, they add guac. and cheese for $.25 each, not bad, the pastor looks really good, will come back to try that. Have to note, they have all kind of beer here, seriously, I usually stop by around noon time, and its like people come here during their lunch to get a quick buzz or something because theres like 20 empty bottles neer the trash can, and its barely NOON!!? I discovered this place while searching yelp for a local spot with good ceviche reviews. I've been a patron of this establishment multiple times when ordering ceviche but wasn't until today that I noticed the shrimp used are not deveined. Now for some this would be a deal breaker but for me it isn't although I do believe if there was an option for deveined shrimp ceviche at a higher cost, I would choose that opt AND gladly pay the price. It would also most likely improve the quality of taste from great to greater. Now I'm not saying the ceviche isn't good because it is good and considering I've been a returning customer this review is solely on my recent discovery. Good: Fish ceviche is some of the best I've had. Fish or shrimp "al diablo" is great for spiciness, tacos and burritos with typical meats are also good (esp. al pastor and carnitas). Prices are very low for the quality, in my opinion. Friendly service especially if you become a regular. Sales tax is included in the posted prices, even! Bad: Nothing I've had, I'd say. I prefer the fried fish in taco rather than burrito form. Minor point, really. Kicker: The location doesn't look like much on the outside (or inside for that matter), but be not afraid - I've been here ~ 50 times and never had even a slight problem afterwards (fingers crossed). Verdict: A regular for lunch with my coworkers. Probably my favorite "authentic" Mexican place, at any price. read more

Authentic Mexican food. Maybe not the most inviting place to sit down and eat... the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. it might as well be a taco truck. BUT the FOOD is A+! The chicken here is actually grilled, they get a nice good char on it. It's not the soggy bland tasting stuff you find at all too many Mexican restaurants. The seafood here is excellent as well. They use a great balance of citrus and savory to help bring out the flavor in their shrimp. Not a huge fan of their salsa, could have a little more substance. Theirs also very limited options in terms of sauces. Food comes out HOT! So be careful when you take your first bite. Everything here is also extremely affordable. I'd recommend trying a little bit of everything to get the best bang for your buck. In summary, great place to pick up food on the go, but I wouldn't recommend actually sitting down and eating here. read more

This is an awesome spot for some authentic tacos and burritos. I come here and get the shrimp tacos all the time. They are amazing. The shrimp are cooked to perfection and I get them really fast which what which is what matters. Customer service is all right but that doesn't matter to me as much as the food in this place. There is a parking lot for the space behind the building and they also have bathrooms. It's a little worn out. The dining area needs more Decour but like I said it is authentic. This place offered me excellent customer service. I work at SPACEX and this place is right next to the triumph building. They only take cash no cards. Fresh fish big portions and decent prices. There is some good and some bad here. As a whole, its a great start for a good cheap taco stand, still, there are some areas where they do themselves a huge disservice. The fish tacos were small but nice, crisp and tangy with a squeeze of lime. The hot sauce is great! They suffered from too little fish, and a heavy hand of breading, but if thats your favorite part of a fish taco, then have at it. It IS my husband's favorite part. The horchata here is excellent, the perfect combo of creamy sweetness to spice. You'd be shocked how often places go wrong with what seems like a simple drink. This one has it right, so be sure to order a bucket full. Someone mentioned being surprised by the ketchupy taste of the tostada, and I have to say I completely agree. I was expecting more of a lime flavor or spiciness, but found myself completely taken aback by the sugary sweetness. Like cheap cocktail sauce. It completely overwhelmed the flavor of the shrimp. A few bites in and I was done. My husband, on the other hand, prefers sweetness to spice, and was a fan. I really liked that the tortilla chips were completely fried corn tortilla rounds. You'd have to break a piece off to dip into the salsa. But I loved the freshness of them, and the novelty. The tacos came with delicious marinated carrots and radishes, the perfect spice to crunch ratio. Overall, decent. A little less sweetness and a little more fish to the tacos would do wonders for it. read more

No frills. Good food. Cheap. That's the best way to describe this place. Honestly, this place has some excellent mariscos and you're not going to find it for any cheaper anywhere else. Only bummer is that they're cash only. I've had their shirmp quesadilla which was huge. The shrimp were seasoned well and super yummy. Plus, the quesadilla came with rice and beans...all for $6.50! Most people are not aware of this place because it is in an area that doesn't have many other businesses. Please believe me when I tell you that it has the BEST authentic shrimp ceviche and Mexican shrimp cocktail in the South Bay area. The staff is very friendly, and they get your orders to you very fast. Both dishes I mentioned come with fried tortillas. In addition to the tortillas, the shrimp cocktail comes with saltine crackers as well. Make sure you get plenty of tapatio for you spicy food lovers and compliment it with a couple squeezes of limes. SooooOo bangin'! Try the mexican strawberry soda, too. I forget the brand, but it is really good. The prices are beyond reasonable. You can get the cevice for between 3-8 bucks. Here comes review #10. Striking terror! I don't know how anyone could give this place 5 stars. The only good thing I can say is that it didn't cost much. The sign outside has TAQUERIA big and bold as the dominant word with Mariscos Guillen displayed below, but based on my experience the tacos were inferior even to the "tacos del carbon" from Del Taco. I had my hopes up that someone on this side of town could do some decent Mexican food, but as usual- big f'ng mistake. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong items but I specifically asked the guy behind the counter what he recommended in particular and he said "everything" (always a bad sign, should have walked out right there). So I ordered the following: 1 Tostada de Ceviche de Camaron= Refreshing, cheap and BORING because I'm so not down with the finely diced shrimp style ceviche (serve them whole and raw and you are on the path to success!) 1 Taco de Asada = Forgettable. King Taco is still the best at this. 1 Taco de Al Pastor = Weak! Shame on this taco. Not even half as good as El Gavilan, who themselves aren't even half as good as just about any Adobada (al pastor) stand in Tijuana 1 Taco de Lengua = Best of the 3, still not all that. 1 Water with ice = The only thing that didn't let me down. read more

Definitely one of the better hole in the wall mexican spots! I am a huge taco fan and this place has one of the best carne asada tacos I've ever had. And trust me, I've been to 90% of the taco trucks in San Diego. There home made chips and salsa is spicy but not overly spicy where its impossible to enjoy. The chicken taco was good, kinda of tasted like the el carbon chicken taco from el pollo loco but better. I also had the shrimp taco which wasn't bad but the carne asada was by far, the best. Shrimp burritos! Maybe not the best ever, but it's not too far off from the good and cheap Mexican seafood places I remember hitting up in San Diego. The tacos with carnitas or al pastor are pretty tasty too. And the ceviche they give you is pretty darn good and cheap - only $1.75! The only minor disappointments I've had were with the fish tacos. Those were okay, but I'd trade up for something with shrimp instead in a heartbeat. Side note: the sauce they put on the tacos and burritos has a bit of a spicy kick, so might want to get the sauce on the side if you prefer a more mild taste. read more

When it comes to basic Mexican food, you'll be hard-pressed to find food this good. Their numerous meats means there's something for everybody and even some things for nobody (unless you're really adventurous). They're not afraid to be spicy and add plenty of flavor. My favorites are the Chicharrones and Al Pastor, but I have yet to try one of their meats that I didn't enjoy. The taco's are the size of a small plate and their Burrito's, while not quite as big as a Chipotle burrito, proves to fill you up almost as much. And the best part is... the price. For 6 dollars I walk in there and walk out with 3 tacos, a horchata, and a guacamole (for those unlimited chips). Yes, the location looks sketchy, but you aren't in any real danger, its just a working-man, blue collar neighborhood. read more

Last night at Mariscos Guillen we feasted on - 1 fish taco, 1 quesadilla, 1 fish burrito, 2 orders of guacamole & 2 horchatas for under $12. The horchata was perfect, the guacamole portions generous (at $1 we thought they would be small), the fish was deep fried but plentiful. Friendly service, our food was brought to the table as it was ready (from the restaurant's fast food style set up, I had been waiting for my number to be called). Plentiful salsa, pickles, and limes. Pretty basic stuff, but excellent quality/value compared to other places I've tried in the neighborhood.
