Amazing authentic Mexican food, in my opinion. The salsa was way to spicy for me, but I'm pretty wimpy when it comes to salsa. I had a marlin grilled taco. DELICIOUS! The flour tortilla is grilled to a crisp with melted cheese and marlin cut very small a top. I also prefer an oyster shot. Served in tomato juice, with tajin on the rim. It was $5.00, but included a shell of ceviche as well. It was good. The classic margarita. Was good for $8.00. Our server was attentive and sweet. The atmosphere is very casual and classic Mexican. I was very happy with this lunch. I would definitely recommend it, if you are in Downtown Downey area for anything. Also I'd like to note, that this establishment literally opened 1 week before Covid hit. The fact that they made it through that nightmare, says a lot to me. This spot looks so delicious on Yelp. We came to have a family dinner for 2 adults 1 child. The food that was ordered was, Mixed Fajitas, Cheese quesadilla, and Nachos with cheese and steak. All 3 plates where mostly left uneaten ** shocker **. The mixed fajitas tasted microwaved and not fresh at all. They had cold and warm spots when I was biting into them. The nachos and steak were made with white cheese and not yellow. This made them taste odd and honestly not good at all. The quesadilla tasted plain, nothing too special. They have some great food here. Camrones a la Diabla are super spicy. One complaint is the micheladas suck. They don't taste good but the food does. Also other mixed drinks that are on the menu are pretty good. Service is pretty standard. And the ambiance is pretty chill for a brunch at noon. read more

I am definitely going here again for the marg deals for happy hour! Margs are 5$ during happy hour(watermelon, mango, strawberry and classic flavor) and 3$ after 7PM! You honestly cannot bet that when it comes to happy hour in LA/OC area. AND on Mondays, they have 3$ classic margs ALL DAY. Food is very mediocre. My friend and I got the asada fries to share. They taste so good for about two minutes, but the Asada was not seasoned well and fries were pretty flimsy. They were only about 10$ so I really can't complain that much. I ordered... - a Baja style fish taco ($2.50) - papas fritas ($4.99) - a Mangoneada ($7.99) - a mango margarita ($7.99) The fish taco was good considering the price point. Although La Chula's fish taco is on the small size, it was fresh and had a flavor punch. I spiced up the fries with my own jalapeño seasoning and mayonnaise. (Shhhhhhh...) The drinks were good and strong. I definitely enjoyed the Mangoneada over the margarita! My Yelp friend, Tred S., recently went to the actual restaurant for outdoor dining. It was very warm and welcoming with the decor. Also the tables were kept apart. The food and the drinks were priced well. The Michelada was on point and mixed properly. Walked in on a Saturday evening and it was not busy. I was pleasantly surprised with my overall experience. The food was good, the chula tacos were my fave! The Miche- loca was delicious and the service was on point. I loved the fact the waiter and waitress made sure we had ever we needed and that they knew the menu well.
