Hidden gem!!! This place is easy to drive past since it's tucked between two plazas. We actually missed it at first and had to park in the next lot. There was plenty of parking once we found it. It's a bright blue food truck serving up fresh Mexican seafood and tacos, with a shaded tent area for seating. Each table has salsas and condiments which I loved. The workers here are amazing. Super friendly and welcoming. We ordered two tacos, cabeza and adobada, along with the aguachile verde tostada. This surprisingly was enough for two people. While waiting, we grabbed some salsas. They keep them on ice so they stay fresh and cold which was such a nice touch. They told us we could bring the whole bottle to the table, but we just used small cups. My favorite was the orange creamy salsa. It had a slight chipotle flavor but was pretty mild and perfect with the chips. They also gave us complimentary soup while we waited which was a nice surprise. Both tacos were incredible. The tortillas were warm and held a generous amount of meat. The cabeza was super tender, flavorful, and nicely salted. The adobada was juicy with a smoky, slightly spicy flavor. At $3.50 each, they felt very worth it. The real standout was the aguachile verde tostada. It had raw shrimp in a bright, spicy green sauce with thin sliced red onions. Every bite was fresh, citrusy, and packed with flavor. By the end, the tostada soaked up all the sauce which made it messy in the best way. If you're into that slightly soggy tostada texture, it honestly adds to the experience. Recommend the fish, shrimp and gobernador tacos they were all good! And it was a casual ambiance with tables and chairs right next to the taco truck. Don't know if the food truck changed owners, but on my last visit, the man taking orders charged us for an extra soda we had neither asked for nor received. I caught the mistake and asked him if the total had been correct, he glanced at his notepad and dismissively said yes. I asked what items he had charged, pulled out my calculator, and did my own math. Unable to deny the discrepancy, he conceded he had charged an extra drink and refunded us the amount. His dismissive attitude led me to believe it was not an honest mistake, and perhaps he was counting on us to not notice the extra couple dollars. This food truck is definitely a hidden gem. I had found out about this place through a Reddit post of someone who did a fish taco tasting all through San Diego. This place was in their top 10 and I just happened to be in the area. Their fish tacos are phenomenal and so very affordable. 2.75 fish tacos is rare to come by. Their shrimp tacos were spilling over with shrimp. They have a small dining area with pop up chairs and tables under a little tent next to their food truck. The food comes out fairly quickly and incredibly fresh and they even provide you with a free seafood strew while you wait. Then when our food was ready, we were told that we were going to get more tostadas. One thing I did not expect, was for them to bring us a warm bag filled with freshly made tostadas. I can't believe I actually enjoyed my food so much like I did today. For a small seafood truck with a small menu, they do seem to have amazing food here. Right at the middle of eating, I noticed a family who was sitting next to us. I just couldn't help but look at their orders. They had crispy Birria tacos in front of them that looked so good. I personally don't eat beef all the time, but I couldn't help but wonder if they were good because they look so crunchy and delicious. I think I might have to come back and try a taco or two sometime. Overall, I can really tell there is a sense of pride here. From great food to great customer service. I think this place is way to unrated which might be due to the location, but once you find it you will surely make it a weekly routine. They do close a bit early (I.e 7:30). I always call in my order and inhale about 3-5 tacos depending on my mood. Sometimes I eat more even when I'm about to explode because that is how good they are. One of the best fish tacos in SD. It's lowkey a hole in the wall food truck but 10/10 definitely recommend. I'm also a huge sauce guy and their orange-ish sauce is really good. Their red suace is also good but it's really spicy. Ya boy looked like he just came out of a workout with how much I was sweating. Worth the pain though. Their portion size was solid and they give you free consomé, which was also really good too. A good friend of mine told me that you can tell if the food truck will be good based on their consomé and he was right. The owner was really friendly too which is a plus. Si, muy muy bueno is what I have to say about this food truck. Mariscos La Moreno specializes in seafood, but oddly enough I had beef and pork, not that there's anything wrong with that. Specifically, I had two beef birria tacos and two adobada tacos with added avocado slices onto the adobada tacos at an extra $1 charge. The mini tacos were only $1.50. First, the birria minis. These were terrific not only because they came well stuffed with tender juicy beef, but they flavor of the birria broth was delicioso. The added chopped white onions and cilantro added nice flavor and texture to each taco. The adobada taco was quite good as well. The tender pork morsels tasty. Although I did feel that the adobo marinade needed to be better developed for a more prominent flavor. The addition of the avocado slices with these tacos went very well. I loved that they double wrapped each taco with corn tortillas and that they, with regards to the birria tacos, dipped them in the birria broth upon warming. Thank you for following tradition.
