Friendly staff. Dog friendly. Good drinks. Good food. GREAT happy hour. 1/2 off all drinks, apps, & quesadillas. Street parking is the only drawback. But they are worth it. It's an inside/outside restaurant faith lots of seating. Upscale decor I ordered the house marg. Rated just like the margs of my youth in Mexico. The ceviche is . I also got the carne asada quesadilla. Head on over for happy hour m-f 3-5

This place has become a PERSONAL favorite of mine since we started going before Padres games to the happy hour! Everyone is the NICEST people you will ever meet, you can genuinely tell the staff like their job! Special shoutout to Colin (server) and Michael (bartender) for outstanding service! I love the cantina feel of it, I have been there so many times but I always see a different face on the wall! The food is absolutely AMAZING, MUST tries are anything with the Cochinita meat and DO NOT FORGET TO HAVE A Mr. Mojo Risin! This place truly has a special place in my heart, walking distance less than 10 mins away from Petco Park! We loveeee La Puerta!

A lively space in the heart of downtown. Usually has a wait time during the weekends. The place is really cute and has a night time kinda atmosphere. We ordered the micheladas which was pretty good. Coming to the food it was decent nothing overly great. Everything we had was average

This is our go-to spot, so this isn't my first review of this place. But I did want to leave another review because our server last night was amazing. Aiden was friendly and attentive as soon as we sat down, and was helpful throughout the night. He was quick and proactive with our order, with good vibes all around.

I can't say I understand the hype for La Puerta. I liked the ambiance. Service was okay. Food was also just okay. We ordered the surf and turf fries, carne asada street tacos, and shrimp street tacos. The tacos come with beans, rice, some chips. Everything was tasty, but not the most amazing tacos or fries I've ever had. The fries were packed with goods, which was nice. When eaten fresh, the loaded fries were probably some of the better ones I've had, especially when you get to have surf and turf option. The tacos were okay. I've had much better street tacos plenty of times over. Overall pretty good but not amazing.

This place was bustling in a Saturday afternoon. Mainly because there was a huge event nearby at the SDCC. Expect a long wait. But once seated, service was relatively quick. Loved the TJ dogs that came with fries. Totally shareable. Loved the toppings. The tacos were good too! Shareable also. Gets loud because of the crowd but id a positive vibe. Coming back? Most likely.

Parking is limited but it was totally worth parking a little further away. The outside is pretty unassuming but magic happens inside. Their happy hour menu is pretty big. All appetizers, quesadillas, and drinks are 50% off. I ordered the mix and match tacos with carne asada and shrimp. The first thing I noticed when my food came was how it smelled. It smelled fresh and authentic. It's hard for me to describe but iykyk. Everything was delicious. The carne asada was juicy and flavorful and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. The tortillas were even freshly made.

Checking out taco joints in our hood and this Happy Hour piqued our interest! Good sized guac! Crunchy chips and a mound of guac... I wasn't sure I'd have room for the tacos... Carne tacos were stuffed with meat and beans and rice were all good! Ambiance is rock club cantina, service was friendly, and prices are good for HH... Definitely hit this happy hour again!

They have happy hour every day from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM. It's amazing for a restaurant to have a solid happy hour during the weekend. The happy hour is half off primeros, quesadillas, and drinks. I came here on a Sunday during happy hour and ordered the carne asada quesadilla. It was a decent portion and tasted good. I had no complaints about it. Not only was the carne asada quesadilla cheap during happy hour, but they give you complimentary chips and salsa. They happily gave a refill on the chips and salsa too. I was full after the carne asada quesadilla and complimentary chips. The service was really good from the beginning. They happily gave more complimentary chips and salsa, refilled my water without asking, and asked multiple times if everything is good. The only small complaint I have is that the music is really loud, but I understand since it's in downtown San Diego. Overall, a really good experience! Will be back especially during happy hour.

Food was delicious! We had the fundidos which was so good. It was cheesy and the chips were fresh. We had tacos and the carne asada quesadilla. The service was great and it was a full house!

Literally one of my favorite spots in San Diego. Anyone visiting me takes a trip here I love the interior of the restaurant. It's dark and intimate. The service is always great, and the food leaves me dreaming about it for the next week. I always order a wet burrito.

We came here during a layover and were looking for tacos and margaritas late at night. This was actually one of the only spots still open when we landed, so it worked out perfectly. It also happened to be Taco Tuesday, so the tacos were $3, which was a great deal. I ordered the shrimp taco and al pastor taco. They were good, but I wouldn't say they were anything spectacular. I also got a frozen margarita (I forgot the name) and added mango purée, which made it really refreshing and perfect with the tacos. Overall, it's a solid spot if you're in the Gaslamp District, especially late at night when options are limited. Good vibe, good drinks, and a great Taco Tuesday deal.

We've been to the La Puerta in Mission Hills numerous times and we love it so we decided to try the one downtown and surprisingly not, we were not disappointed. Just like any place downtown, the only issue is parking. The rest of our experience was great. All of the bartenders were very pleasant and attentive. We were her for their excellent Happy Hour which is 50% off for appetizers, bottle pours, and cocktails. Our Old Fashioneds were delicious. I decided to get a pour of their Blanton's SFTB. As far as food we decided on the carne asada quesadillas and the cochinita flautitas. Both dishes were very tasty and filling. La Puerta will for sure be one of our mainstays and I look forward to our next visit as always.

Ask the Community - La Puerta

This is my absolute fav mex restaurant in SD, but now I've been diagnosed with celiac. Is there anything on the menu that is gluten free, I used to always get chips and tacos - the corn and beans side are amazing?

This question should be posed directly to the restaurant. The staff would know their ingredients and your physician would assist with the food list.

What time does the kitchen close?

    Mon - Thurs: 11am - midnight Fridays: 11am - 1am Saturdays: 10am - 1am…

I saw happy hour from 3-5 and 3-7 in your comments section. What is the happy hour times on Tuesdays?

Happy hour is 3-5 everyday The 3-7 is from 5+ years ago.

    Do you have high chairs?

At our downtown location we do not. We do have them at our mission hills location

    Do they offer bottomless mimosas?

No. Go to Werewolf - they are open every day. Enjoy!

Do you have a dessert menu?

We have flan and churros and ice cream

Do you take reservations for dinner or special events?

    Not at the Gaslamp location.

    Is it dog friendly?

I suppose you could utilize outdoor seating. It is definitely not dog friendly indoors. Way too tight, dark and loud. Very much a "bar" scene.

Do you have gluten free options? Chips, tacos, etc

The corn tortillas are for tacos but we use flour tortillas for burritos and quesadillas The chips have a small amount a gluten…

Is there still late night happy hour?

    Yes! 10-close

Can you hold larger parties, like 35 people?

Only at our mission hills location Email your request to hp@lapuertasd.com

Do they show LigaMX Mexican Soccer matches?

They do have televisions and I'm sure if it's in their service package they will.

    Hours for happy hour 2022?

    It's been 3:00 - 5:00 the past two times I've been there.

What time is happy hour for Taco Tuesday?

    3:00

Is the regular lunch menu available during weekend brunch?

    Yes

    Is happy hour everyday? 😏

    Yes! 3-5

What happy hour specials are there?

1/2 off apps, quesadillas, and full bar 3-5

Is there still outdoor seating available, do you need a reservation on weekends?

Yes we have outdoor seating ! We don’t take reservations, just come on by!!

    Do they take reservations?

No we don’t, just come on by!

Can our book club discuss a book here or is it crazy loud?

I haven't sat inside because I didn't start coming here until COVID started and always sat outside once they opened for dining.

Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures. It was weird- the Edible Tuile Shell, Caviar, Yuzu Caviar, Sancho Oil, Wakame, Micro Greens on top were just too much. The flavors did not show while eating. What keeps me coming back is the combination of great music, an energetic vibe, outstanding service, and some of the most creative cocktails you'll find anywhere. Tonight was girls' night out, so we decided to order the prettier, and sweeter cocktails. But don't let the sweet flavors fool you--they are definitely generous with the alcohol. These drinks may taste dangerously easy to sip, but they pack a punch! I don't even remember the names of the cocktails we ordered, but honestly, that doesn't matter because the menu changes so often. And that's one of the things I love most about Music Bar. Every visit brings something new, fresh, and exciting to try. Both of my drinks were absolutely delicious, with the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. I honestly don't know how the bartenders come up with these combinations, but kudos to the team for constantly pushing their creativity while still making every cocktail incredibly well balanced. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular, Music Bar never disappoints. I'll definitely keep coming back to see what new creations they come up with next. Cheers to one of my favorite cocktail spots in San Diego!

Speakers and vinyls line the walls. Vibes are more elevated here than at your usual bar. I ordered the Nickel Fortune, which came out with a fun tarot card. It was a savory drink with a nice lingering of sesame oil after each sip. Seating is pretty limited inside, so reservations are recommended. CMB's website states that "cocktail attire is celebrated."

Always a 5 Star experience when gathering for drinks here…read more Over the years, the names have changed for the provider of Polite Provision's delicious orderable food to go along with their polite provisions. Items such as scrupulously prepared meatballs, fried polenta, spaghetti with mushroom sauce, etc., from the prior next-door, connected purveyor "Soda and Swine"...but those days are done ...I digress. And where is Soda and Swine's Yelp page? I know I did a review, but now the page appears gone completely in search? Nah, it's just hidden, presumably to accommodate Fortunate Sons, which opened about a year ago after re-construction of both establishments. I'm too lazy to see if still owned by Consortium Group. I did search my reviews and found my updated Soda & Swine review dated 8 & 10 years ago. O_o !! Now, food is still served, however, there's a new name in town called "Fortunate Son" (next door, connected). Apparently, food now served is Asian-inspired. I've not visited recently to taste. The North Park area is a great neighborhood with many different types of food close by. While you're there, don't forget to stop by "An's Dry Cleaners", where the most inventive gelato's, ice creams and sorbets come from.

Not only that, but the drinks are strong (a pro for most, con for some). The food is delicious, and the seating is super comfortable! The service was above-and-beyond, as the staff there offered to remake drinks that my friends did not particularly enjoy for free. I do recommend to make a reservation ahead of time as walk-ins are not guaranteed. For reservations, you'll need to make a deposit. This deposit will be refunded once you show up. There was a wait despite having a reservation, but nothing too long. The volume is not too loud, and the speakeasy was very clean. The parking is moderately decent, but hard on weekends. There's a parking lot in the plaza, but street parking is also available as well.

I liked this part of the speakeasy the most and it was definitely photo worthy. The service was super awesome! Our waiter/bartender was very knowledgeable, helpful and funny. He was really cool and made the experience even more fun. Their menu is now through a QR Code. They offer seasonal drinks as well as house regulars. We all ordered a different drinks. They were Seoul City Hipster, Kasato Maru and Purple Petunias. Each was $20, but they were so tasty. I got the 52 Burger for $16 which was mouthwatering. One of the best burgers I have eaten. My friend got the 12oz Bone-In Pork Loin for $27. This was pretty decent. I thought the burger was better. Now that I have been here, I definitely recommend checking out this speakeasy if you haven't and I look forward to another trip!
