My sister and I arrived at Mariscos La Sirena around 1:30 PM and were told the wait would be about an hour. I noticed there were open seats at the bar and politely asked if we could sit there while waiting, but the host still refused and repeated that the wait would be an hour. She took my phone number and told me I was added to the waiting list, but I never received a text or update that our table was ready. After waiting for hours, my sister and I decided to eat at another restaurant. I later returned around 4 PM to let them know I never received a message, and when the host checked the tablet, my name was not even on the waiting list. That was extremely disappointing and made me feel like there was never any intention of seating us. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was feeling like we were treated differently from other customers. The restaurant was primarily serving Mexican guests at the time, and the difference in treatment was noticeable. I believe management, including Sarah, should be aware of how customers are being treated and how bias -- intentional or not -- can affect people's experiences. Mani was a great server. She was extra sweet and accommodating. We all enjoyed our meals. Mine was the shrimp taco dinner. The shrimp were fresh and still had a bite, so not overcooked. The beans were excellent! My passion fruit margarita tasted about the same as my friend's mango margarita, so pretty basic in taste but still yummy. Just tried the Serena for the first time and it was okay. I'll start with the food. The huachinango fish was a bit small but was cooked/fried to perfection. My agua de Jamaica drink tasted old as if it was sitting in container for a long time. The rice had too much of a garlic taste so I did not eat.... The bread given was soggy and old. I did enjoy the fries, good and crunchy. Service was good the waiter did come around and ask if we were okay. Ambiance of the place was clean and modern but some of the workers don't even acknowledge you nor say hi makes it feel unwelcoming. I noted the heavy seafood as he can't eat shellfish (not dangerous just sensitive) but he saw chicken and was on board. It is a large place with big TVs. Clean and the parking at that time was good. It's in a strip mall with lots of parking with other stores but they are on the end. There is also a small outdoor seating area. We sat at the bar. They have specialty drinks of all kinds and tequilas. Lots of seafood options and a few beef and chicken. I asked if the Pasta Siren was hot and the bartender told me no. It was spicy but not inedible for me but I couldn't eat a lot as my mouth was tingling. It got to be too much for me. The garlic bread that came with was delicious. I can't believe I haven't updated my review since the last one. This place has delicious food. I am glad I gave it another try. I consistently get either the shrimp cocktail or the shrimp tacos and my boyfriend gets the chicken tacos- although he tries to steal my chipotle mayo. Haha. Shrimp cocktail: They have two sizes. I tend to get the large. I usually add Tapatío lo to make it spicier and ask for tostadas. The ingredients always taste fresh. Shrimp tacos- 5/5 Holy cow! You get so many shrimp!!! I love these. They usually come with onion, cilantro, lettuce, tomatoes, and chipotle may. The churros can be hit or miss. The first time we came, they brought them out early, so when we were done eating they were cold. But the next time, they were hot and had some sort of filling- possibly dulce de leche. The only thing we don't like is the ice cream. The ice cream usually has icicles in it. It's too cold - haha. I wish they had a separate option for just more churros with no ice cream. The staff has been very sweet whether we dine in or take to go. I do recommend checking your to go; but, I recommend doing that anywhere you go. There have been about 3 times that my boyfriend came home and something was wrong - we got beans when we ordered all rice, or they gave him a different meat in his taco. The most recent was that we paid for chips and salsa and they didn't put it in the bag. Again, these are very easy mistakes, and I don't blame them. It can happen to anyone, especially when it's busy. Oh, and they remodeled recently. The floor plan is much more open. I believe there are a lot more tables. If you come here on a Sunday, be prepared for a wait. They are busy- and rightfully so, the food is worth it! I believe they have a live band too! Truly the best seafood in the area. I went to restroom immediately n there was urine all around stall n floor . No wonder!!EVERY table had supersize drinks. I ordered a small pineapple margarita and it was very well mixed. We like this place. We've eaten here several times. I, personally love the aguachiles and all the hot sauces on the table. Their green salsa is amazing too if you like heat. Great food, great drinks, great service. However, sometimes the music can be unbearably loud in there. If you're looking for a quiet place to dine, this restaurant might not be for you. 4/5 stars. Not giving it a perfect score due to loudness, but that's the only drawback here. Some people may like very loud music when they dine but it is a bit much for us. read more

Dined here several times. Can be a bit noisy at times but the service is usually good and I like the tacos. I am allergic to seafood so I am limited on what I can have here but the chicken and steak tacos rarely disappoint. Drinks are usually really good and they use to be very reasonable. The menu prices recently increased which is understandable in this economy as everything is expensive but some of the cocktail offerings increased by 50% which is crazy. I do think the price hike is because they have become a bit more popular. Disappointing but still worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

My husband and I like this place. We stopped in to eat after watching a movie. Our service was friendly and prompt. The food was very reasonably priced and the portion sizes were big. We definitely had leftovers. We ordered a steak burrito and the Mama's special. Both were very delicious. We visited on a Tuesday so it was not too but we could tell the the weekends are probably lit with music or a game on the TV. The henchata (horchata + Hennessy) caught my attention, but I subbed the Hennessy for a shot of Remy Martin VSOP instead. Great choice! Straight up delicious. The seafood stuffing in the piña relleno was good, but I would opt for the Nayarit sauce instead of the cream sauce next time. The cream was very thin to the point that I wondered if was made with skim milk. The menu is so large that it wouldn't be fair not to return and try out at least a few more items. Mariscos la Sirena's menu focuses heavily on Mexican seafood, which is a refreshing change from American-Mexican restaurants with basically the same menus at each one. Their menu is vast and also includes many more traditional Mexican menu items. Friend and I happened upon this delicious restaurant while shopping in the area. Very fun boisterous popular music playing loud which was super festive and added perfectly to ambiance.  Palm trees throughout restaurant and bar area, as well as sidewalk in front of restaurant which made us forget that we were in a Chicago burb. Complimentary red and verde salsas we're served with 3 lime wedges and tortilla chips. Appreciated the lime wedges! Pitcher of lime MARGARITAS - refreshing! Found it interesting that the pitcher was glass, but the margarita "glasses" were plastic. Would have preferred the opposite of one need to be plastic, but not a big deal. $21 MIXTO (fish & shrimp) CEVICHE (small) - Absolutely perfect flavor and texture, and huge portion!  Served w/ 3 tostadas and 6 pkgs saltine crackers. $8 Wanted to order Carne Asada con Camarones but we were SO full from the ceviche... DO NOT RECOMMEND. My friends and I went here last night. I ordered 2 small margaritas on the rocks and she ordered 2 house Paloma's ($8 per their menu) along with food. We unfortunately paid without looking at the receipt. Later that night I saw we were charged $18 for each margarita and $14 for the Paloma's. They were listed as the Diamond Margarita Repo and the Paloma Especial (which has an additional bottle of tequila in it). I called and spoke with Angel the manager. He was very nice and said to bring the receipt and we would be refunded. However the next day he refused to refund us anything claiming we requested a " certain type of liquor" that made it more expensive. Totally untrue! My friend specifically said "your house Paloma". Beware of this place, if you go ask what the price is on any drink you get and check your receipt! read more

The seafood options were so plentiful it was hard to choose. I ordered enough for three people lol and everything was delicious. These days I don't take pictures of food because it's become "dated" and or "classless". Like one has never eaten a meal before lol. However, the presentation of the food was picture worthy. We were immediately seated and given chips and salsa. Then nothing, no one came to our table for 35 minutes, no drinks or anything. Finally I flagged down someone who got a waitress who came to the table and took our order. Another 30 minutes goes by, I speak to our waitress who doesn't understand much English at all and finally tells us 5 more minutes for food. I ask the guy bussing tables to get us a manager and he nods and disappears to the back. No manager comes. Five more minutes goes by, then 20 more minutes before we finally get our food. That's an hour and a half from the time we sit down until we get our food. Many other folks came in and sit down 20 or 30 minutes after us and had their food after waiting only about 20 minutes. We noticed about every other table in the restaurant was Latinos who spoke Spanish and got waited on. Now I don't know if us being white has anything to do with any of this but a part of me wonders. Once we got our food it was delicious. Again I asked for a manager and he never came. Finally I went and found a manager who did come over and I told him our experience and asked for $10 off our meal. He never came back but eventually our server did, no apologies or anything but she said she just didn't know we were there. The check was $10 lowered so that was good. There was no option on my check for a tip which was good because I did not plan to give any tip anyways. When we went to leave I saw the manager and told him the food was amazing but the service was awful and he actually did apologize then. I cannot recommend dining here. The food is great though so maybe consider getting carry out is all I can guess. Very disappointed. read more
