You know... Finding a good OB when you're pregnant is SUPER important... I was REALLY hoping for a good experience... Instead I was serviced with what seemed to be mediocre care. The office staff: 1 star Cora seemed to be the only one who knew what she was doing. She was pleasant. The others had no interest in being at work. EXAMPLE 1: they would discuss their bad YELP reviews out loud and how they disagreed with them...(hmmm, I wonder why?) EXAMPLE 2: I checked in, signed in, and waited, and waited, AND WAITED... APPARENTLY they had FORGOTTEN about ME... EXAMPLE 3: I show up on time to my appointment and get taken in AFTER the lady who was over 30 minutes late (I'm still waiting to see doctor 40 minutes AFTER my scheduled appointment) Then there's Jan, the nurse practitioner... JAN: 5 stars for her. She is extremely kind and thorough. Answers all the questions you have in a patient manner. I'm writing this because of Dr. Garibaldi. DO NOT see him. He has a completely rude bedside manner, and does not seem like he cares at all. He doesn't bother reading your chart, and makes you feel rushed and not listened to. He kept cutting me off every single time I tried to speak. I do like this office and I 100% trust Dr. Alwan. Dr. Alwan & Dr. Fakhrai delivered my first baby and I was very excited to see him again for the second one. Unfortunately, they lost dr. Fakhrai and both offices are running with just him and NPs. Even with my first pregnancy I would let their tardiness slide (not being called into appointments until almost an hour+), but I couldn't take it anymore. Almost halfway through my pregnancy and I have yet to DR. alwan just bouncing between NPs and to top it off being called into appointments a whole hour later. It was just plain ridiculous. read more

I had an appointment on 7/9 and after 2 hours' waiting, I was told the doctor had emergency and can not see me. Try to cancel this appointment and get my copay back, the nurse offered me seeing Dr. on 7/13 at upland office. After discussion with my husband and I cancelled the 7/13 appointment. On 7/12, I got a call from the upland office, left a message that my 7/13 appointment will need to be cancelled due the doctor's emergency again! So glad I did not plan to see the Dr. and will never. Not sure why reviews aren't better because I have not had ANY problems coming to either office. I've been seeing Dr. Fakrai throughout my pregnancy and she's been great. Always answered any questions I've had, never rushed us and listened to my concerns. The staff has always been great and helped with anything I've needed. I was kinda scared to come here because of the reviews but so glad I didn't listen to them. The ultrasound tech has been great as well. I literally don't have any complaints. Very happy with this OB-GYN! (There has only been one time I had to wait a long time but that's because the Doctor was called in for a delivery. Not sure why people get mad over that considering they are delivering our babies, that's literally why we are seeing them. A nurse practitioner saw us and she was great as well). read more

My daughter wrote this review and they removed it so I am writing it again because that is so unacceptable. People need to be aware of my experience. There is a obstetrician-gynecologist working here named Dr. Carlo Garibaldi. I do NOT recommend seeing him. I went to see him a few weeks ago as I was experiencing inconsistent periods. They did an ultrasound and pap smear to make sure that everything was okay, and they found out I had fibroids. The ultrasound and pap smear were not done by Dr. Garibaldi and I was comfortable up to this point. However, I spoke with him about the results, and he was very unclear and unprofessional, suggested that I get a hysterectomy and when I asked for other options, he basically told me that there were no other treatments for me, and I had to get a hysterectomy. I was uncomfortable with this and did not go through and he ordered an endometrial biopsy. I should've stopped then because I have no idea why he ordered this biopsy after he told me that there was no way the fibroids were cancerous. He did not numb the area and performed an incredibly painful biopsy; I could not walk for over a week, and I am still having trouble standing for long periods of time. It was a very traumatic experience for me and Dr. Garibaldi is a very insensitive doctor, I have no idea how they are still letting him practice medicine when he absolutely very clearly does not care for his patients. It seemed like all they wanted to do was charge my insurance for the procedures. I am writing to share this experience so other women do not suffer the same consequences - please find another gynecologist. It is sad that there are people in this profession that obviously don't care about women's health and wellbeing. read more

This practice is sincerely one of the best. This is my second year in a row as a patient for my pregnancies. I am considered a high risk patient and they have met all of my needs so far and I can only anticipate it to continue this way! Everyone from the front office receptionist to the back office medical assisting staff and of course the providers are AH-MAZING ! When there are urgent matters pending they do all they can to make sure you are seen in a timely manner. I personally have never waited more than 30 min to be pulled in for my appointments and THAT alone is wonderful! Especially considering that once you are back there as a patient, they in no way make the visit feel rushed. I thankfully haven't had an issues with the billing department thus far and I have an HMO plan. I will update this as my insurance is changing to a PPO. No problems with medical records or getting forms taken care of for work or school. They are current in the way in which they communicate. They send text reminders for appointments. Normal results are also sent through text which is super convenient. Prescription refills can sometimes be approved through a simple phone call depending on what the prescription is for. Again, how awesome is this?! Dr. Mark Alwan delivered my first born and he was the absolute best!!I healed so well and suffered minimal pain afterwards. My delivery was complicated and when he let me know we would have to do an emergency c section he made sure I felt at ease. Thank you !!! Dr. Fakhari is so kind, so patient and so caring. Its not a facade. One can usually gauge when this is the case. She is always so welcoming and humble. Her knowledge is vast and she never makes you feel small for not knowing something. Its important to feel at ease with our providers, as our health and our babies is in their hands and Dr. Fakhari provides this! Thank you! With this current pregnancy I have been seeing the NP Danielle. She has been so great to me. Always willing to answer my 5,000 question no matter how repetitive or trivial they may seem. I appreciate her honesty and advice, always. Even when she does not readily have an answer for me or maybe she wants to be absolutely certain about something, she will consult with an MD and get back to me. I so appreciate her. The sever lack of effective communication and follow through from this office is just appalling. For me personally these are the issues I've experienced: Ongoing issues with refill information not getting to the pharmacy, often waiting over 45 mins to an hour past scheduled appointment time to be seen, being told a date a time for an appointment only for it to be wrong, and staff violating HIPAA standards by posting patient information over social media. I'm more disappointed in myself for continuously being hopefully things would improve. I picked this office because it was near my home, but I'd rather drive farther to get some respectability health care than continue to go to this office. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Alwan for approximately seven years. Unlike other Gynecologists I had seen in prior years, he has always been the most gentle, thorough and compassionate. After having an ultrasound I was informed I needed a biopsy. I had been seeing the PA but was told I had to have Dr.Mark Alwan do the biopsy procedure. I have never had a good experience with male doctors but knew I needed this done to check for uterine cancer. Dr. Alwan came in, sat down and explained briefly what was to happen. His nurse or assistant came in to observe and he asked her to go find him gloves. She left and came back with gloves and handed them to him. He didn't wash his hands and now her germs and his were on the gloves that were going inside my body. I have never in my life had so much pain from a procedure. Not even in childbirth. It felt like what cattle would feel after being burned with a prod and it lasted about one minute. I screamed because the pain was so horrific and said just stop but he didn't. If you can imagine a torch going up inside of you and searing you for a whole minute. Felt like a lot longer. I had a biopsy a year prior in the same area and was uncomfortable but not in pain like this. I will never forget this and never go back to this doctor ever again. read more

From my personal experience I believe Dr. Alwan has too many patients under his care. Dr. Alwan delivered my baby in November of 2016. I was induced; hooked up to Pitocin for 32 hours and in those 32 hours my water was broken for just short of 24 hours. My son was "sunny side up" and meconium (baby's first poop) was present when I began to push. After pushing for 2 hours my son was delivered vaginally via vacuum and 4th degree episiotomy. A couple weeks after the swelling had subsided, I had feces and gas passing uncontrollably through my vagina, resulting in infection. I was left with a RECTOVAGINAL FISTULA, an opening that connects the rectum and the vagina. I returned to Dr. Alwan and in December 2016 he attempted a surgery to repair my rectovaginal fistula. The next day it was clear my surgery had failed as gas, followed by feces, was coming through my vagina again. I then had to seek out a specialist, as a rectovaginal fistula is an extremely tricky repair. In my research, I stumbled across another woman who had Dr. Alwan deliver her baby 11 months before me and, she too, was left with a rectovaginal fistula. I found a Urogynecologist that specializes in rectovaginal fistula repair in San Francisco. Long story short after a battle with my insurance I finally had my surgery May 2017 (exactly 6 months to the day from having my son). I have paid $8,500.00 out of my own pocket to be fixed (not including travel, hotel, etc.). I am currently 4.5 weeks post-op and so far my surgery has been successful, THANK GOODNESS! read more

So far I have had a good over all experience at Dr. Alwan's offices. I have visited both the Rancho and the Upland office. I would leave five stars but unfortunately although on many sites and even on the PVH website it says he delivers there, he does not. He only delivers at SARH. I honestly started coming here in 2016 because I saw the reviews on here and matched up with my insurance to see if he delivers at Pomona Valley. HE DOES NOT! bummer.. Ultrasound technician: Coral!******************** I love Coral. Even though I lost my baby twins at around 9 weeks last year she was so sensitive and knew exactly what to say when our pregnancy did not work as my husband and I had hoped. My husband and I love to see her because she is very genuine and is very helpful. She loves her job and we love that! Office staff: Stella, Rosa, (the other front desk girls) All of the girls seem very nice (some not too friendly and some really are.. my fave is Stella- Rancho I think) but I wish they seemed a little more eager to help or answer questions. I understand and can only imagine how this kind of job could be but a little more smiles and positive energy for attitudes would be nicer. It's all good I get that it's easier said then done. I work face to face personally with people and after a while I'm over it. OB/GYN Doctor: Mark Alwan (long first name so I just put what he goes by, Mark) I met him after the miscarriage of my twins ( August 2016). My husband and I sat down with him to talk over the miscarriage and to see where we are at with everything. He seemed very caring and understanding. He suggested we wait a while (I already forgot the time he suggested) and said that once I do become pregnant we will try and use progesterone to sustain the pregnancy. I am happy to say that I am 23 weeks and my baby is very healthy. I just wish there was absolutely no confusion with the whole Pomona Valley delivery thing! I am not able to deliver here although it says on other websites he does. Even on the reviews it states that women were mislead and Dr. Alwan does not like delivering there. Oh well I guess. I also don't like another couple of things. I've had one C-Section in September of 2011. I am not even able to try for V-Bac... Not a big deal. At this point whatever works and gets this little princess in my arms safe and healthy I'm down for. I just wish it was more talked about. Like why? Is it just inconvenient? Do Dr.s get paid more for C-Sections? I so far have not been sat down with and explained why I can't try for vaginal. That bothers me because I am an adult and a responsible caring mother... Anyone should be talked to thoroughly when it comes to the decisions of their children. Appointed C-Section: NOT HAPPY. I went for my regular check-up about a week ago. Stella was on a very important phone call from what I could tell. She was on the phone when I got there and when I left. There was another woman there at the desk but maybe she was unavailable. I don't know. It was a regular check-up so it's not like I needed all her attention besides she still greeted me and was very nice. I scheduled my appointment for April and was on my way. As I was walking towards the Elevator, I realized there was another appointment scheduled under the one in April. It looked like it was my C-Section Appointment. My due date is 7/24/2017. It said it was scheduled for 7/20/2017 at 12:30pm. UMMMMMMMMMM. WHY IS THIS HOW I FOUND OUT? Call me crazy but thats just not professional. I am pregnant and hormones are already flying.. I am already taming myself everyday and this?! .... I was really pissed to be quite honest. I really would have loved my daughter to be delivered 7/21 (I love that date) but apparently he is "unavailable" of course. Now, being a christian woman I am going to believe that and not doubt others but can't I pick a date? I have talked to countless women who get to pick up to a week before (39 weeks no less). I was talking to a Cora over the phone and seriously just did not like her tone. I don't think she was sympathetic or empathetic or understanding of why I was upset. It almost seemed like I was a bother and was over reacting when I am a mother trying to figure out whats what. I didn't yell. I didn't curse. I was just stating how I felt and that letting someone find out their due date on a piece of paper while walking away to your car sucks! Any other mommies agree? .. This is where I am right now. All week I was debating about going to a different doctor but I prayed and (long story) got confirmation that I should stay here and that I would be in good hands. I trust that. Overall I love this place. Nothing and no one is perfect. I'd rather deal with these kinds of issues than of those other stories I have heard of. I recently went in as a new patient for a second opinion. Originally wanting to see Dr. Alwan but he didn't have any appointments until October and I did not want to wait. So I was offered an appt with their new Dr who just joined the office and that was Dr. Fakhrai. I was already nervous to see an new OBGYN and having to share my history all over again yet alone a new Dr who's new to the office and not many reviews on her but I took the chance and I'm glad I did! She was absolutely WONDERFUL! I didn't feel like just another patient to her. I felt comfortable and she took her time with me. Made an appt for today at 10:10 am for a pap-smear and mammogram referral. I called at exactly 10:10 am to say I was running late and needed more time to get there and asked if I should just reschedule or still come in. The receptionist tells me go ahead and come in. I arrive at 10:35 all the way from North Rancho Cucamonga off Banyan and Wardman Bullock. They won't see me. They tell me I'm over my allotted time???? What allotted time? No one mentioned this to me on the phone??, I called when I was in my car about to leave to my appt and was told go ahead and come in. I don't hear about the so-called allotted time until I'm signing in for my appt. in office. Proceed to get into an argument with a 20 something year old front office receptionist who acts rude and I keep telling her I don't want told about an allotted time otherwise I would have just rescheduled. I took the time to call and say I was running late and they tell me to go ahead and come in. I go directly there from my home, I make no stops and then they won't see me. This place he gone downhill. Dr. Alwan delivered all 3 of my kids and I never see him. You will literally never see him that's a promise. The parking at this location is so bad there is none. You are forced to park farther away and walk to the office building which takes like an additional 5-10 min. The very young, inexperienced staff running the office is really hurting this practice. Very sad they choose to treat good, loyal, patients of 18 yrs like this my oldest is 18 and Dr. Alwan delivered her in 2002. read more

I really love this place and the doctor BUT I'm so tired of the wait time. On Friday my appointment was suppose to be schedule at Rancho but it was scheduled in upland and by the time I found that out I would have been 15min late for my appointment but they said that's too late I can't come in anymore I need to reschedule which I did and now I'm sitting here for going on 40min to be seen PAST my appointment time. So tell me how I can't be late 15min but they can be late by 40min?!?! I'm really frustrated and every time I come here it's like this. They never see you at your appointment time it's always a 30min or more wait and it's really annoying and because of this I'm now going to be extremely late going back to work. Not to mention I asked beforehand how long this appointment would take to make sure I could get it done during my lunch and they said no longer than 15min which is obviously incorrect. Went in for my appointment on Friday for symptoms of a UTI. Had an overall good appointment. They promised me antibiotics as I checked out. They left for the weekend without filling my prescription... I was in pain all weekend. Called first thing Monday morning to let them know of their mistake.. I get it, mistakes happens though this was very inconvenient for me. They apologized profusely and confirmed their mistake. They assured me they would put in my prescription immediately. Hours passed on Monday and my prescription is still not filled. Will not return. read more

Let me just tell you about Dr. Alwan!! I would not trust any other OB. He is the kindest most honest Dr. I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He takes his time with, looks you in the eye when he talks to you and makes you feel really comfortable. I have had multiple problems and he's never let me down. He's very encouraging as well. His office staff is amazing at both upland and rancho offices. They are on it! They get things done and treat you with respect! This office is very clean and welcoming, but it can get pretty busy sometimes. Which is understandable when you find a good doctor. I've never had an appointment with Dr. Alwan himself, but I had a great visit with Jan for a gyn visit. She was extremely nice and helped me feel comfortable. Cora at the front desk was very helpful and welcoming when I was checking in and out. I haven't had any issues with insurance or EOBs. Everything has gone very smooth every time. Sonia in billing has a major attitude problem. I have been a patient of this office for 20 years. In the last few years the level of service has declined terribly. It's not the drs care but the office staff that makes dealing with the office so difficult. I have had to catch them in errors on my charges. They run tests for items that I wasn't even in the office for, resulting in additional expenses for me. When you try to talk to Sonia, she has a very pious demeanor and is not willing to see the lack of customer service or that her attitude is not needed. Thankfully we will be moving soon so I will find a new dr. For others looking for a dr, be warned. If you ever have billing concerns, you better not expect to be treated with any respect. I am a patient of Dr. Alwan/Fakrai and currently 39 weeks pregnant. I highly recommend. Almost there! Here is my review: Office: Both the Upland and Rancho offices are very clean, comfortable and professional. I typically go to the Rancho office because it is closer to home. The admin ladies who make appointments etc. are excellent. Stella is fantastic. This is really significant because I've had other excellent doctors with terrible admin/service. This is not the case with Dr. Alwan's office, excellence all around. Pre-Natal Care: I moved to Rancho Cucamonga from Pasadena and started seeing Dr. Alwan with my second pregnancy. I had to mentally adjust to this practice. My previous doctor did all the ultrasounds herself and I had one at every appointment during my pregnancy. I learned that this is not the norm. In this office, you will see an ultrasound tech for all of your ultrasounds. They typically only do 2 or 3 ultrasounds, since that is what is covered by most insurances. You can request more of course, but it just isn't standard and you will need to make sure that you are prepared to pay the additional fees for that. Also, you may have some of your OB checks with a nurse practitioner if the doctors are booked. Madonna, the nurse practitioner is fantastic and I felt totally comfortable having some of my earlier appointments with her. Bedside Manner: Both Dr. Alwan and Dr. Fakrai have excellent bedside manner. They are very sensitive, caring and competent doctors. The appointments are usually brief because they do have alot of patients. I would highly suggest having your questions ready when you go into the office. They are very busy doctors. You need to be the driver in your appointments. This was also an adjustment for me because my previous doctor got to know me so well that when I walked in the door one day she was like "Adrianna you're swollen, what's going on?". She didn't even need to look at my chart to figure out who I was lol. Dr. Alwan/Fakrai simply can't know you as well. I still love them both, it just is a different type of practice. That is not a negative, just a difference. If you are used to really in depth attention from your doctor, this practice might require you to adjust your expectations. But don't write off Dr. Alwan/Fakrai too fast. They are really great! Money Matters: This medical practice requires full payment for prenatal care by the 7th month of pregnancy. Thankfully, I had cash built up in my HSA. I paid in full early into the pregnancy. I like the no drama factor of this. However, it is important to be prepared, particularly if you have a high deductible plan. Even though you pay in full, they don't actually bill your insurance company for the prenatal care until after delivery. It is billed as a bundle. Therefore, you will not see this payment reflected in your deductible until after you deliver. Also, any lab work or "extra" ultrasounds are not included in the bundle. Therefore, these two service types are billed separately. read more

This office is amazing! I changed my insurance specifically so I can go here! I have gone here for various forms of birth control and cosmetic procedures. I had a issue with my IUD (it was my fault, not theirs that it started to fall out) on a Saturday. I called the number to page the doctor on call and Dr. Alwan called me in about 20 minutes. That is awesome! I work around Doctors day in and day out and I've never seen better service. Jan and Madonna are both wonderful there! I've gotten chemical peels and laser treatment from Kelly and every time I go it's a great experience! She is so kind and makes you forget you're getting your hair sizzled out haha! I recently had doctor alwan as my OB for my entire pregnancy and I am beyond happy for choosing him. The entire 9 months I received the best service from him, his office staff and his doctor assistants. I mean there is nothing to complain about at all. Doctor Alwan is extremely calm and patient, meaning he will make you feel comfortable and won't worry you about anything unnecessary. Jan and Madonna (nurse practitioners) were also amazing and I'm happy to have met them. Every question I had was answered and whenever I had any problems (which were frequent considering my pregnancy was really difficult) they were taken cared of. Leading up to delivery day doctor alwan helped me deliver my baby as naturally as possible before I couldn't push anymore so he had to suction her. I tore a little but he stitched me back up and I healed great. My baby is now 4 weeks and we are both doing wonderful. I recommend him for every future mom out there, he will not disappoint. I will be obviously returning to him if I were to get pregnant in the future. Thanks again Doc and team, you guys are amazing. read more

My son Logan just turned 4 years old on feb.5th. anyhow, all my pregnancy I went to his office in Rancho. On Feb.03 was my induce date at 11am. While this Dr never showed up to Pomona Hospital and to make matters worse I was already 6c dilated with no medicine and I guess no Dr. from Pomona Hospital can't step in other than to wait 24 unless he drops my chart. All he had to do was make a call and not even that I got.i was really scared I honestly thought I was gonna die and my son too. After two days he was born and he didn't cry like a normal baby for a second I thought he was dead until the Drs. Came in and help us he was born with 95% jaundice and they release them like that from the hospital at the point all I wanted to do was just take my son home away from all this. Never in my life would I forget what I went through.I just wondered at times if I have been the only one or has he done it to other moms. I just thank God for having my son but his neglection could've cause me my baby life. I know that when he reads this he will remember who I was and I hope he takes his job more serious bc families actually trust him with his care. read more

Please be careful when seeing this doctor. He rips you off and never informs your insurance company of the money he is sucking out of you. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I had a D&C beginning of the year and the doctor made me pay the deductible up front but never reported to my insurance. I get the hospital bill and it stated I never paid my deductible. Long story short I would have never found this out if I hadn't called my insurance company questioning my EOB. This doctor wasn't even going to notify me that I had a refund with him. Not an honest practice he is running. You've been warned. read more
