Horrible customer service! I purchased an item not knowing it was final sale. Who I think was a manger was so rude about it! I explained I had a reaction to it , she didn't care. She was more worried that they wouldn't have made any money on it if they took it back. She even said they wouldn't make money if it was returned. She talked at me and made insinuation's I didn't understand what she was saying. She didn't like being spoke to in the same manner she was speaking to me. People don't realize u get what u give! In the past 3 years or so the price increases have been pretty much non stop. The sales woman was trying to be helpful, but there were several customers vying for her attention. Another woman came over to help but just didn't know where things were. I get my hair cut and colored here and can't speak about any of the other services offered. Although I think it's pricier than other places, I've had cheaper salons butcher my hair. Edit: if i could take away the one star I would. Despite me expressing my disappointment to a manager, they did not return my message at all. I decided to switch to Scott Miller recently because i felt my look was stagnant. They are "the best" so I was excited. You get a different colorist, stylist (cut) and finish( blow dry). This makes it hard to book your services together, but I tried. 1) First appointments went well. 2) Second appointment: Stylist canceled my cut with one week notice and nobody else available. So i had to do my color and then book a whole other day for a cut. 3) Third appointment - the salon called me and said my stylist wasn't available and rebooked me with someone else and promised that this new stylist had more availability and i would be VERY happy. Haircut was good-not great 4) 4th appointments booked together- Stylist canceled with 6 days notice. The stylists aren't sick, that would be understandable, they are canceling with a few days notice to have a day off. They should be planning days off in advance not canceling on clients constantly. So i've had to spend double the time in the salon. On top of that, You never get the same person blow drying your hair so your hair always looks different. I was excited to go to " the best" salon in the area. But in order to be the best you have to care enough to keep an appointment with a client. read more

I've been thinking about shaking up my skin care routine and have added a trip to Scott Miller into my weekend plans! I absolutely love the team here and they have a huge selections of luxurious products at this location. I am not here often as I don't tend to splurge on beauty purchases/hair/etc, and basically everything here is going to be a splurge. I once came for a haircut by recommendation from a friend (I was looking for a regular stylist at that time) and my jaw literally fell to the floor when the I was told the price. Like...full shock horror and awe. Very dramatic. Though in fairness, it was a great haircut. I've gotten better cuts since for 1/4 of the price...but a great cut nevertheless. Needless to say I've never been back for a haircut and will never be back for any kind of service, but I still love going in and perusing. I had no idea what sort of treat I was in for when I settled into the chair for my hair wash & condition. Foot rest up? Ok! You're gonna give me a scalp massage and not just scrub a little shampoo into my hair as quickly as possible? OMG, yes please! At every turn, the attention to detail & the friendly professionalism of the consultants at Scott Miller were A+ top notch. I was warmly greeted as a welcomed guest upon entering, taken great care of at both my hair and makeup sessions, and in every way cared for (read: spoiled) with respect and without a pushy sales pitch. Amazing facials! I've always loved going to Christine and Hillary! Today I had a facial with Vivian and it was excellent! Her facial massage was not mechanical at all, it was so natural and like she was really putting a lot of care into it. She made great recommendations of products to help my skin that I'm excited to use. Also laying under the covers on a heated bed in the Winter is so cozy! I have to admit I get my color done every month and love going to Scott Miller! I never feel pressured for products or services and everyone is so nice! Not a good day! Brought my 10 year old in for a cut and we literally were left in the waiting room. Though I followed up twice after being 10 minutes early and waiting 20 I asked to reschedule. I for sure won't use that particular stylist again and most likely not bring my girl back. Having been a customer for a few years now doing color every 5 weeks I am not sure how I feel going forward. I was visiting upstate NY for my friends wedding and was searching for make up artists. My friend suggested this spot because it had a MAC store inside and I can honestly say I am so glad we came here! This is a super cute boutique/spa/hair dresser all in one spot! Super cute, clean and incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. From the moment I booked my appointment, received my reminder call and the day of- I was incredibly impressed with everyone and everything about this spot! As for the make up- Freddy is AMAZING! He went above and beyond of what I wanted and the look stayed all day and night! My friend had Chyna do her makeup who also did a fabulous job and my friend was incredibly happy with her results as well! I have had a variety of services done at Scott Miller on Monroe: Gel Manicure, Makeup, and Formal Up-Do Hairstyle. I have not had a haircut, hair color, or any other spa services done there yet (and I say "yet" because I definitely plan to go try other services). All of the services I've tried have been great so far. Gel French Manicure - Lisa Marie M. did a fantastic job. She's an extremely sweet/friendly girl and does a beautiful job painting french tips. I like the Shellac brand of gel manicure products the best of all gel lines and that is exactly what Scott Miller uses. Lisa swapped overly-thick old bottles of polish for new fresh bottles. Her attention to detail was incredible. This is probably the best french manicure I've ever had. Pricey, but worth the price if you want an absolutely perfect french gel manicure. Seriously it's perfect. Makeup - Jennifer & Christine did a wonderful job on makeup for both me and for my mother. They did a great job at listening to what we like and don't like. The colors they chose were great. The application wasn't overly heavy. The products were great. My father LOVED the lipstick Christine chose for my mother. Hair (Formal Up-dos) - Jason did a fantastic job. I brought in pictures of what I wanted and he was able to pull all of the things I liked from each individual picture into a cohesively styled up-do. He used lots of product to ensure that it stayed looking perfect all day. He worked my sterling silver hair piece in beautifully too. I was thrilled with the output. What I don't like about Scott Miller Salon is sort of nit-picky: If you want perfectly executed beauty services this is a fantastic place to go...and I mean perfect. They do a great job. My only complaint is the environment. It's a very busy salon and it can feel a little frenetic with everyone moving around at once together. There isn't a lot of partitioning between work stations. The waiting area is not at all comfortable and I always feel like I'm in the way of people no matter where I sit. It's not a place for relaxation...but again...if you want a perfect output and don't mind NOT being super relaxed during your servicing, this is a wonderful salon. read more

Every time I come here I breathe a sigh of pure luxury. As Tom Haverford would say, treat yoself. Scott Miller gives your hair the care and attention it deserves. Their stylists are impeccably trained and regularly travel to New York to keep up on the latest trends. Lee is my mane man. He supports me through my short and long phases and keeps my horse-like tresses looking sexy and fresh. And the colorists know their stuff. I recently went double-processed blonde and still have an incredibly healthy feel. Spring for the Kerastase treatment to keep your locks moisturized and shiny- it only takes a couple minutes. Amazing selection of makeup, and artists who will apply and consult with you for your best shades. Lots of high-end products. They are expanding to add another 5000 sq. ft. which will no doubt create an even more spacious and spa-like feel. Love it. Worth the price. read more

The updates and expansion are beautiful and I love walking into this place. The ambiance is nice and relaxed but also luxurious, if that makes sense. I also really like the new MAC section; I had my makeup retouched by Silvana while I was waiting for my cut once and it was a lot of fun! I'm only in Rochester, New York once or twice a year to visit family and my first destination was always Scott Miller. I love the atmosphere of makeup enthusiast, skin care, and even literature. My opinion has drastically shift over the holidays when I felt like I was being racially profiled by two employees. I understand that they might not get a lot of male clients that look like me (dark skinned, barefaced, athletic clothing) but I was harassed by two employees who constantly questioned me and my purpose being at the store. The first time I was asked if needed help I politely declined, the salesperson went back to her coworker, whispered something to him, and then he immediately came over to me and question me. You know when you have a gut feeling it's not about wing helpful but it's to antagonize someone. The only pleasant people there was the cashier and the people at the MAC counter. Guess I'll save my vacation money at Sephora or Ulta because at least they don't judge people by their appearance read more

I've had my hair all kinds of cuts, all kinds of colors, from many different stylists across the country. I've had some amazing hair moments and definitely some sad ones. Recently I've had my fair share of less than great experiences around Rochester - from places I've really wanted to love. I had to get my hair corrected twice this year. Both times I chose Scott Miller to do the job, and both times they were incredible. Why didn't I just stick with them to begin with? I have zero excuses, don't ask. Everyone is very pleasant, and I always feel pampered going here. I go to Sarah for color and I LOVE her. She's kind, funny, super experienced, and a literal hair magician. My experience here was like no other. First impression, the place was beyond beautiful and the staff looked intimidating. However, as soon I walked through the glass door, I was instantly greeted and felt wanted. Everyone was so friendly, and I wasn't even wearing nice clothes! The makeup artist are clearly professional, and they actually want to help you, not try to sell you products. I came in for eyebrow pencils and the makeup who assisted me was found me the perfect one! I felt comfortable telling her that certain products didn't work for me and she was honest and agreed. I get so annoyed when I ask for a makeup artists' opinion and all they say is "yes, you look great!", but the one here, will tell you what does and doesn't and I respect that. What's nice is that the entire store is by department, and you need at least 2 years of experience in that department before you can help others! I've been getting my hair done here for the past two years and I love the stylist who cuts my hair (Mindy). She's a great listener and really ensures that I love my cut. Definitely 5 stars for that. I have to take issue with the coloring services. I have no idea what color line they use, but it just doesn't last. Just had my hair colored here two weeks ago and for $140.00 (just color) I would expect much better. I asked for low lights and root touch up. The low lights are non-existent and that wasn't just my opinion. My service was performed by a "master" stylist. I really like the customer service and the esthetics, but I will find another salon to do my color. read more

SM on Monroe ave Ambiance is relaxing and staff is very friendly. I did my eye brows and hair cut. I was happy with eye brows but hair cut could have been better. My stylist refreshed my curly pixie cut but it was noticeably lop sided. Her hands were noticeably shaky but I thought this would not be an issue. I got home and tried styling it that's when I noticed it was poorly cut, Family and friends noted that it was uneven. I notified SM about my hair issue and they were nice to schedule someone else to fix it. The 2nd cut was better but still not good enough. I know curly hair is tricky but they need master stylers that know how to cut hair. I would go back for waxes but nothing to do with my hair. read more

Every time I go to Scott Miller I plan on loving it and end up loving the service but so indifferent on everything else. My mom and I went in for pedis and our nail technicians were completely awesome. Absolutely zero complaints on that front. The waiting area is nicely decorated, except for all the product covered in dust, the floors littered in fuzz, hair, and other debris...for an upscale salon, you'd think the product/waiting area would be more taken care of. I suppose not. The girls at the check in desk were nice, the hostess however, I could do without. After about five minutes of sitting down and having a sip of water, she comes over to my mother and myself and says "are you two actually getting a service or just sitting here?" What?? Whether or not she meant it to come across as pretentious as it did doesn't concern me. If my mom and myself are coming to a salon and quietly chatting amongst ourselves waiting for our services (which together are well over $100), and an employee is concerned about it...you know there is a much nicer way to present any query. Perhaps something along the lines of "do you ladies need anything? Have you been checked in by an associate?" would be appropriate to gauge what exactly a client may be doing. I've worked in the spa business and the customer service business and none of my coworkers, or myself, would have ever communicated to a client in that manner. That particular situation left us disappointed, and we did speak to a front desk girl who was very understanding. We told her we didn't want anything free...none of that nonsense..she didn't really seem surprised about the complaint and apologized. It is what it is. Wasn't her fault! The pedis were lovely, and despite the messy waiting area (and one of the pedicure seats being ripped) the environment is nice enough to be upscale. Scott Miller himself is a fantastic business man and talented stylist, and my review stands only for the Pittsford location and their nail department. Decided to come here for hair services after a very fun MAC makeup event for Yelpers last spring. They have one of the best selections of premium hair and makeup products in Rochester, so head here if you need to pick some things up. Prices are generally the same everywhere for these types of things, and the make-up artists, in my experience, have been really helpful and not too pushy. I got a cut and color on my hair; the colorist said my hair was already pretty light from previous highlights (it was), and we shouldn't go lighter. I heartily agreed, then the next day realized it was really quite light...almost a deep blonde. I think it looked okay, but didn't really notice how different it was (and from what I thought I asked for) until people commented on the color months and months afterwards. 10/10 for lasting color, but the comments were more like "oh, your hair is so light...", not. "Wow that looks great!" Should I be more specific and clear about what I want? Perhaps, but I found it so ironic this happened despite our discussion. Now, Scott Miller is the place for a pedicure. After receiving a gift card here, I quickly made an appointment for the spa pedicure - deluxe! Prior to my visit to Scott Miller, I "indulged" in the cheap version of a pedicure at the spots where people don't speak English very well. I was in for a rude awakening at Scott Miller; of course I was given the spa treatment. The staff is so friendly as you walk in - everyone says hello and offers you a drink. I personally like to peruse the makeup stands as I wait, considering a purchase out of my budget. The pedicure is fantastic. The technicians are skilled. I mean, the foot massage that comes along with it literally is 30 min. long. Amazing. They have the latest season's nail polish colors and loads of magazines to sift through. I came here after a friend suggested who cut her hair. I hadn't had my hair cut in almost two years so I was really looking forward to getting it cut but it was really important that I didn't lose my length since it took me so long to get it. Since I don't get my hair cut often I had no idea what to get done and I told the woman cutting my hair and she said it was no problem and since I'm a maintenance free type of person and need my length she put in long layers and framed my face. Before she cut my hair she told me everything she was going to do and throughout the cut kept me updated in what she was doing. She was very easy to talk to and I felt very comfortable there. Although I don't get my hair cut often I will go back there for Madison to cut my hair again. The salon itself was very nice and clean. I felt taken care of in every way while I was there. My experience with Scott Miller is great for make-up and ok for hair. I workout next door and realized they had a MAC counter, so I stopped in. This was during the spring and they were having a make-up event so I scheduled to come in and have my make-up done. Getting my make-up done was great and I loved the make-up job that the artist did. I was very impressed so I booked a hair appointment before I left. This leads to my negative experience. I made my appointment in the store, the clerk told me who to book with based on my hair type. Fast forward to the day of my appointment. I was really excited to get my hair done, we were having a dinner party at our house and I knew I would go and leave looking fab. Got there and they very polity told me they did not have time to do my hair. When I booked my appointment it was very clear (I was standing there) that I am an African American woman with curly hair. The staff was apologetic and rebooked me an appointment. I sent an email the next day about the experience and staff responded quickly and offered to comp my visit. My visit when I got my hair done went very well. My hair looked great and Kathryn gave me great tips on keeping my natural hair healthy. She was a great stylist and I liked how my hair looked. Based on my initial hair experience, I would not go back for hair. My advice for women of color is- when making a hair appointment, ask up front for extra time for your hair so they can plan accordingly. My experience with the Scott Miller salon has nothing to do with hair, but PLEASE read the suggestion below if you are going in for a coloring or similar: I go there because I have a fragrance hobby, and they are just about the only place in Rochester that carries higher end niche fragrances, as compared to the standard designer fragrances we can all find at any of the local department stores. They carry three fragrance lines I'm interested in, but I wasn't real interested in going there once I realized it was in Pittsford. Pittsford has always had a potentially snooty vibe in the Rochester area, with a lot of wealth concentrated in this suburb. But my experiences have surprised me, having been there about four times now over the past six months to sniff a fragrance or two each time. The staff at the door are smiling and welcoming, and very kind and patient with me in spraying a test strip or two of these costly fragrances, so that I can determine if they're for me or not. I often come in dressed very down, casual, and am still treated kindly without any impatience, considering it seems to be a pretty busy salon each time (which is also a good sign for those who may be interested in the hair/etc side of it). PLEASE READ: I've had "hair disasters" when I was younger, so I can relate to a bad review in places like these. Back in the days when I had a lot of hair. I would encourage anyone who is making any kind of color change, be it minor or major, to consider paying for a one-strip color test of your hair before making the change. A bad hair job can really ruin a positive attitude, and it's SO worth it to pay whatever it costs to make sure the color is what you want. ALSO, it is VITALLY important that you explain in GREAT DETAIL EXACTLY what kind of color or style you want, bring pictures on your phone for example. Miscommunication happens constantly and WILL determine very often a bad outcome, simply because a stylist is not on the same wavelength with you. ASK the stylist if what you're trying to do is possible with your hair color and type before you do it. Not everything is possible, depending on many many factors such as age, hair color/graying, density/length, etc. I know it doesn't look like it from my pic, but I have a LOT of experience with hair treatments in my past. Just wanted to chime in on that, and tell my experience with their fragrance line, in a wealthy part of Rochester and how I was treated well.
