I'm sorry to have to post this but.... I always took my watches to Beauchamp for repair/maintenance. The person doing repairs was well qualified and very, very good at his craft. Before they closed, they recommended Butterfield for repairs in future so, I took a very expensive watch to Butterfield for cleaning and a new battery. They replaced the crystal with a VERY cheap replacement that scratched very easily-the original was scratch resistant but had a small scratch in the corner. They never asked if I wanted the crystal replaced and could not put the original back because it had been discarded. Whomever did the cleaning, used a tool that actually rubbed off part of the design and name of the brand on the face of the watch leaving an awful mark that looks like it was buffed off. The watch is ruined. I will never take anything to Butterfiend Jewelers again. read more

Charlatans! With blatant lies, they tried to rip us off for $400. We took a pocket watch in for regulation. They told us the process required them to open 'er up to take a look and that they would give us a quote. After two weeks we still hadn't heard a word back. When I called them, they told me that the watch was completely rusted inside and needed to be rebuilt. That it would take two months and cost around $400! We decided to bring it home and look for ourselves. My handy boyfriend clicked off the back and crystal, revealing a pristine inside. After a few YouTube videos we figured out how to regulate the watch. This shop is not to be trusted. read more

My ex-husband left a Rolex watch which I wanted to sell. I brought the watch to Butterfield's and was told the bracelet was small, and there wasn't any way to order more links from Rolex. Also, it had to be sent to the Rolex factory to check out the serial number. I was also told it would cost approx. $1K to get it in shape to sell it. I asked one of the salesmen to try the watch on. It fit but he said it was tight,.Looked fine to me. Bottom line, Butterfield's offered me $1K -$1,200. for the watch. I took the same watch to Beauchamp on Friday when a rep from Antiques Roadshow was at the jewelry shop. The rep looked at it and said, "Nice watch." He went in back to remove the back of the watch and check the serial number. He returned and told me he'd buy it for $2,500. I said, "Deal" and the jewelry store issued a check to me in the amount of $2,500.00. Iinteresting, huh? read more

I went shopping for an engagement ring here, and they never serviced us after 15 minutes. We left. I have had my diamond on consignment there, but every time I go there I'm sitting in a chair for 30 minutes, and then I get approached to vote them best in abq while I wait which doesn't make sense. They told me my diamond would sell in 6 to 9 months, well it's been a year. If they served people better this probably wouldn't be an issue. I called yesterday to pick up my diamond today. These guys did a "fundraiser" for the state bar where one person is supposed to win a real diamond, only none of the "diamonds" were real. They set up the thing with no controls then blamed the state bar for supposedly losing the "real" diamond, who had to refund everyone's money. Don't use them for any fundraiser stuff. Buyer beware with these guys generally. Make sure you're getting the real diamond you paid for - not a cheap CZ. read more

Very unprofessional. Here is my recent experience: Thursday, Feb 20th - My son and I stop by Butterfield Jewelers on San Pedro to see if they were interested in buying my platinum, Scott Kay wedding ring set. Met Scott who told me they were most definitively interested and that I could do one of two things, sell it outright or consign it. Told me they couldn't give me quotes at that moment however, and said I could leave the rings or come back tomorrow. Decided to return with them the following Friday, Feb 21st - My daughter and I return with the set. Scott is not there, but we meet Mike Butterfield. He tells me they are still interested, but I would need to leave the set there and I "should hear back from them by tomorrow." Saturday, Feb 22 - I'm in the area, so I stop by Butterfield Jewelers to see what quotes they had for me. This time I talked to Scott again and he apologized for not having the quotes yet, but that he would have them by Tuesday since he was off on Monday. Wednesday, Feb 26 - I decide to call Butterfield Jewelers, because I still have not heard anything from Scott. Spoke to the receptionist, who told me she would have him call me. A few hours later, Scott calls with two quotes, $1,750 to sell it outright or $2,500 to consign. Told him I would think about it and that I would decide by tomorrow. Thursday, Feb 27 - I go into Butterfield Jewelers and tell Scott I want to sell the set outright. He tells me Mike Butterfield is not there, so they cannot issue me the check at that moment. Apologizes and tells me to come back tomorrow. I tell him ok. Friday, Feb 28 - I receive a phone call from Bernie Butterfield (Mike's father) saying he hears I am interested in selling or consigning my ring set and would be happy to set-up an appointment with him. I tell him I've been working with Scott and Mike. He says he'll call me back. Instead Scott calls and apologizes for the confusion, and that Bernie would be calling me back. I didn't hear back, so I went down to Butterfield's again. Scott tells me he is sorry, but Bernie Butterfield only wants to take it on consignment. Mike is also there, but does not come over and say anything to me. I take my ring set back and leave. P.S. Noticed their clientele were primarily elderly, so perhaps 'back in the day' they may have been a more reputable business. read more

Just got back from picking up my 2 watches that needed batteries from Butterfield Jewelers. She handed me over the watches and then the receipt for $63.00. I asked why one of the watches was $18, and the Tag was $45? She explained on the Tags, they required a special tool to ge the backs off and it was more costly. There were about 4 other customers standing aorund me a couple were waiting to be helped yet, I asked her if she'd like to hear a funny story, and proceeded to explain that when I first got the Tags, one of the battery's had expired and I took it back to the selling dealer (Maati) and was charged $80. I had another that had to have the battery changed and took it a jewelry store that I hadn't bought the watch from And they charged me $18. When I asked why the price difference the watch repairman told me that I was taken in because there Is no real difference between putting a battery in a Tag or a Timex. He stated that you'll get one of two reasons,,, "The watch is very expensive and requires special tools to open it",, or the"watch is waterproof and requires a special chamber to re seal it after opening the back" I then mentioned that the jewelry store was the same Butterfields I was standing in. She mentioned that it was true that they needed special tools and was sorry but that was the price. I told her to just ring it up but I would not return to do business there any longer. She then deleted the $18 charge and said she would discount the price because of my being a valued customer or something like that. I paid for the services and she then in front of the other customer's began to tell me it wasn't the TAG at all that required the special tools She just realized it was the Chronotech plastic sports watch (that I had paid $1 for), because it had multiple screw in the back and it needed special..... I stopped her and explained loudly that it was just fine and to please stop digging the hole she was burying herself into. read more

Horrible service!!! Took my engagement ring to the Holly location to get 2 side stones tighten, spoke with Bill to get a quote on the cost to make the adjustment. Not only did it take 5 days to get a quote we had to follow up to get it. When we finally received a response they told us it would take 3-4 weeks for the simple repair and if we wanted to pick up my ring it would take them an additional 2 days to get it back to the Holly location. Needless to say we picked up the ring from the rude jeweler at the San Pedro location took it to one of their (much better) competitors and had my ring fixed 2 days later! Would never recommend this jeweler to anyone!!!! read more

The first time I was here was for a watch repair that another local shop could not fix, and Butterfield was great and fixed it efficiently and for a reasonable price based on the watch. Just yesterday I was able to drop off my iPad tablet w a charger piece broken into the tablet- I knew and trusted they would be able to find a way to remove it and all is good. When I got married 25 years ago Butterfield Jewelers designed my wedding ring using a diamond that belonged to my grandmother. The simple setting was exactly what I had envisioned. Now we are renewing our vows and I felt it was time to have a new wedding ring set, something with a little more "sparkle". My first stop was Butterfield's, but I must admit it wasn't my only stop, I looked both in Santa Fe and online. I quickly learned that the online experience wasn't going to work for me. I needed to see first hand how the ring looked and felt on my finger. Mike Butterfield helped me every step of the way, I really didn't know what I wanted but through a patient process of elimination I could describe what I didn't want. Mike listened and on my second visit he showed me an estate piece that was perfect. It was an art deco setting but it did not have the main stone. I knew I wanted an emerald cut diamond to fill that space and Mike brought in several stones to select from. He educated me on which stone would look the best in my setting. The real challenge came in finding a wedding band to complement the estate piece. At this point of the process Mike knew what I wanted and he knew what would work with the vintage engagement ring. And after ordering and trying on many wedding bands we found the perfect match. Even though my wedding rings were not originally a set they belong so perfectly together one would never know. So after 25 years of marriage I have moved my original ring to my right hand and love my stunning new wedding ring set. Thank you Mike, you made it happen! read more
