For her, we needed to find something to match her unique engagement ring. Mark and his wife are fantastic. My then-fiancé and I went in to the shop thinking it would be the first of many places to visit. Your friends tell you that buying an engagement ring is a daunting process and that you need to visit multiple places and solicit quotes, blah blah blah. Not with Mark Patterson. Mark sat down with us and wanted to hear our story, and learn about our personalities. He asked if we had ring styles in mind, and you could tell he was excited about some of his designs that he thought we'd be interested in. He also took note of my wife's skin complexion and went over what each metal provides and how they blend on the hand and with other rings. He was an excellent guide and teacher. We felt really comfortable with expressing our wants for the ring, what our price points were, and what our timeline was looking like. When I went back solo to buy the one I wanted for her, I really appreciated working with Mark's wife on the final cut. In fact, there were two options in front of me, one was considerably more expensive given the carats, but Judy wasn't pushy or salesy on the pricier one. I of course ended up going with the bigger one ;) In the end, I got my now-wife a beautiful engagement ring that gets compliments all the time, as well as very nice and elegant wedding bands. Where to start, Mark and Judy are absolutely awesome! While I never thought I would be a guy who has a family Jeweler, here I am and this is the only place I will go. I was hesitant at first when shopping for rings in the Newport/CDM area as, although I had been saving, my price range was not what may be typical of the surrounding cities. I had planned on using the center diamond from a ring my dad had gotten my mom on their 10th anniversary, that ring she wore for the next 25yrs until my parents renewed their vows at their 35th anniversary. In those 25yrs, I had witnessed unwavering love between my parents through happiness and sadness, through prosperity and hardships. To say this ring and gesture meant a lot to me would still be a massive understatement. True to the feeling my soon-to-be fiancé and I went into two places on my way down PCH, the first jeweler didn't give us the time of day. The second jeweler told me that my parents diamond was "too small and not that good of quality" they also told my fiancé-to-be that her choice of metal (yellow gold) was "out of style" and to "trust us, she wants white gold". We politely said we'd think about it, and walked out. We then went to Mark Patterson. Seemed boutique and luxurious, I didn't know what to expect. Initially a guy walks up and starts talking to us, I told him what I wanted to do (using a family diamond) and it almost seemed as if it brought him equally as much joy to use it, as it did me. My soon-to-be fiancé told him that she likes yellow gold and asked his thoughts, to which he said "It's timeless. Classic. Most importantly, it's what you want and you'll love it forever". He then spent the next, I don't know how long, endlessly asking every question possible and showing us ring after ring. He even pulled a similar size diamond from the back to show us exactly what mine would look like on each setting. Half way through I realized, I was rude and never introduced myself or got his name. I said "Oh by the way, my name is Chris" he said "nice to meet you Chris, Mark Patterson". We were speaking to THE guy the whole time!!! I asked about the diamond out of curiosity, he said "let me clean the ring and check"...mind you the ring had been stored away for who knows how many years. He comes back and says "this diamond is near perfect, come take a look!" Brings me to a microscope and gives me a mini lesson in diamonds and where this one sat on the scale. Quite a difference from the place before. Here's the funniest thing. When we walked in, my (now) wife knew the rings she wanted...personally it wasn't my choice, but it also wasn't my ring. During all this ring showing and with no coaxing from either Mark or myself, my wife ended up choosing an entirely different set of rings all together. And it was a ring that I absolutely loved and to this day, I still catch her looking at and she'll say "I just love this ring so much. It's everything I wanted my ring to be and I never knew it". The rings truly are classic, timeless and beautiful. This ring gave me 2 very proud moments. The first when I proposed and and seeing my fiancé just stare and look at the ring for hours with a smile on her face. You were very lucky if you had the opportunity to have your rings made at MP with your own diamonds. I had a ring made with my stones six years ago. I had a half band made, and wanted to have more diamonds added and have an eternity band created for our anniversary this year. I was sadly advised today that Mark's policy has changed and customers can no longer use their own diamonds. I met Mark when he was in NH- his jewelry is so beautiful. I only wear my MP band- as unfortunately when we upgraded my engagement ring, from a local so called "exclusive" NH/VT- VBJ- locations jewelry store- we trusted them, but now know we really overpaid and we were sold a very poor quality, cloudy stone- I am so devastated about this- and don't even wear it. Several months ago, a pear-shaped sapphire fell off of my wife's engagement ring. The ring was insured and we filed a claim that listed Mark Patterson as our preferred jeweler (not because we had ever done business with Mark, but primarily because they were conveniently located and had helpfully cleaned the ring a few times). A few days later, I received a call from Mark. Although he hadn't ever received an insurance claim quite like this, he invited me to bring the ring by. The service that followed was extraordinary; truly above and beyond. To begin with, Mark located a beautiful pair of sapphires to replace both the lost stone and the remaining one (to ensure they matched perfectly). He managed the insurance process with minimal hassle. And, as a result, the ring is more beautiful today than when I bought it. But Mark went far beyond simply replacing the ring. Upon examining the ring, he noticed that the GIA diamond certification number was missing. Without missing a beat, he undertook several hours of additional work to (1) scour the diamond for any trace of the number, (2) to confirm that the diamond matched all the attributes of the GIA report, and, finally (3) to work with GIA to have the diamond re-engraved with the correct certification number. Absent all this work, it would have been impossible for me to every again verify whether the diamond I purchased was, in fact, the diamond on my wife's ring. I cannot speak highly enough about Mark and his team. Quite honestly, I have never received better service than I did here. A fact made all the more remarkable because, up until this point, I had never before purchased or done business with Mark. So, as I said: exceptional service that went above and beyond in every respect. I cannot recommend Mark highly enough. read more

My husband had my engagement ring custom made out of state. So when I had to get it resized, we needed to find a local place and took it to Mark Patterson. Mark was there when we brought it in. He was so kind and helpful, and showed us how to "identify" the center diamond so I always know I'm getting my correct ring/diamond back if ever left to get cleaned/repaired with a jeweler. A year and a half later, I needed to get it resized again. Two days before my wedding, Mark met me before the store was open to look at my ring. He and his team were amazing and went above and beyond to resize and clean my ring and had it ready a few hours later. I discovered his showroom and design studio was in the area of my workplace, so I visited it one day during my lunch break. Upon first meeting Mark was friendly and proud to show me his portfolio. I learned that he does bespoke projects and one of his specialties is color stone gradients. I love color and we then began work on a custom design. He created a 3D model which we reviewed before I have the approval to make the actual ring. My fiancée/now wife loves it!
