His explanation of the procedure was refreshingly concise, clearly detailing what he needed to repair in the surgery and where it needed to be done and why. He was clear and pragmatic about the roadmap for recovery. The results speak for themselves, as the surgical incision has healed beautifully and I am on my way to a full recovery. Dr Cohen spent less than 2 minutes speaking with me during my appointment with him. He referred me to neurology without providing any detail about what that provider should be looking for. Dr. Cohen's PA took a week to call me back, only to say "I will have to speak with Dr. Cohen", having not provided any update on my case. They were supposed to call me back mid last week but have not. All in all, it seems Dr. Cohen is disinterested in seeing me as a patient. This has been a wildly frustrating endeavor, and I can't recommend you waste your time with him. read more

The best elbow surgeon. Dr. Cohen did a lateral collateral ligament replacement on me. His offices had the right equipment to X-ray while manipulating the elbow, and first off, that made a difference. Another office did a tennis elbow debridement debridement surgery that did nothing except left a messy scar. Dr Cohen got the diagnosis and surgery right and left my original scar clean and neat. I went in for wrist pain and got a referral to Mark Cohen as the best wrist specialist in Chicago and he didn't disappoint. Even his staff was so knowledgable and friendly, the PA Whitney was able to run the tests but also explain what she was doing with passion which is rare (from someone who has been to a lot of doctors as a rugby player). She gave me her opinion that was then confirmed by Mark Cohen, Good Job Whitney! He was able to walk through a course of action and inform me on my X-Rays. This review is not only about Dr. Cohen, but his whole team at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush (MOR). I fell on the ice and broke my wrist in multiple places. I knew I needed surgery and did some googling. I found Dr. Cohen and didn't even try to get an appointment with him. Being so highly regarded, I never thought I could get in with him. I found another ortho at MOR and called for an appointment. The scheduler was great - she said 'Dr X is booked till next week, but Dr Cohen can see you first thing tomorrow morning.' DONE! I went to the facility in the city on Harrison - which is gorgeous. One tip - use the valet. The parking garage is a nightmare. Everyone working there is very professional and great with the patients. Like someone else said, I didn't get a lot of time with Dr Cohen - but seriously, the man is practically running from one patient to the next. I was happy to get in at all! He sees my kind of fractures ALL. THE. TIME. - so him, it's pretty routine. He explained that I absolutely needed surgery (which the ER doc also told me) and could get me in the following Monday. The surgery was at Water Tower Place (who knew?) and went very smoothly. My follow up appointments have been great. But the absolute most important thing is that my wrist is doing really, really well. Here's the thing. If you want a doc who's all warm and fuzzy and spends time with idle chit-chat, don't go to Dr Cohen. But if you want a brilliant surgeon who's going to fix your broken bones and restore your functioning, go see Dr Cohen and his awesome team. read more

Dr. Cohen is a supremely talented, timely, detail-oriented doctor. I appreciated his quick, direct feedback and attitude. I can't imagine having had a better team working to bring me back to full health. I was in a bike accident back in December that severely dislocated my thumb. An ER doctor set/splinted it, and I went off to hike mountains across the world. When I came back to Chicago, a month after the accident and "re-set", it was still swollen, intensely painful, and unusable. I looked up Dr. Cohen with some Googling, and was immediately set up with an appointment. The entire staff at Rush Medical was professional, timely, and efficient, much like Dr. Cohen himself. The facility is gorgeous and easy to navigate, as well. He quickly assessed the damage and set me up for surgery, which, to my understanding, was fairly complex, involving re-arranging ligaments. As a side-note, they had originally scheduled my surgery for Water Tower Place, but Dr. Cohen's team realized that my insurance wouldn't apply there, and re-scheduled very quickly for the Rush facility, which my insurance did cover. Surgery went extremely well-- great facility, great anesthesiologist, great nurses, and of course, Dr. Cohen is a fantastic surgeon. He and his staff set a very clear post-op recovery plan and were very communicative, making sure that I knew what needed to happen and when. I'm back to full use of my thumb, which is hugely important to me as a very active person and frankly, borderline miraculous given the amount of time that elapsed between injury and actually fixing the problem. Dr. Cohen and his staff never wasted my time, were clear, friendly, and honestly, I can not fathom having had a better team taking care of me. Highly recommended. read more

I first saw Dr. Cohen a few months after my first surgery for a shattered elbow was determined to not have been effective and my hardware needed reattached to secure the joint. Everyone that saw my x-rays said that the elbow was "a disaster" and our local orthopedic specialist didn't want to attempt correcting the issues, so he referred me to a specialist, Dr. Cohen. He agreed that my elbow was quite a mess, but he proceeded optimistically and cautiously and sought other experts opinions before formulating a plan to repair my poor elbow. He always had great optimism while keeping me aware of the long road ahead and possibility for less than an ideal outcome. After two surgeries with Dr. Cohen and a years time and therapy and i have most of my range of motion back as well almost full use of the elbow. A miracle in itself given the lack of bone remaining to work with initially. He made certain that all precautions were taken and therapy protocols specific to his approach are followed. I obviously highly recommend Dr. Cohen, but it goes beyond his abilities and success. His bedside manner is quiet and soothing. He doesn't say much but what he does say is understandable and your options are clear and he gives you his full attention and makes certain all your questions are answered. Additionally everyone i encountered at Dr. Cohen's practice are welcoming, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Cohen; so much that just this past week my husband needed an ulnar nerve relocation surgery and we didn't even consider any other surgeon. read more

I have seen Dr Cohen in his office a handful of times over the past 8 years for injuries I've sustained from sports on my wrists, hands, and elbow. He's performed surgery on my wrist as well. Every appointment he has taken the time to explain the situation to me, what he recommends as a course of action, and asked if I have any questions. From my interactions, it seems he truly cares about his patients. I would highly recommend Dr Cohen to others and I'm sure at some point I will be returning to see him again myself. I cannot say enough great things about Dr Cohen and his team. I had elbow issues for years from working out with weights and it was always classified as tendonitis. Every doctor I saw said the same thing. Ice, rest, don't do anything that hurts and you will be fine. Problem was - I was never fine. Then I had a mixed blessing of events that led to my introduction to Dr Cohen. I dove in a company softball game (I know, I take it way too serious) and tore my medial collateral ligament in my elbow. I was in San Francisco at the time in 2010 consulting so I went to UCSF to the best elbow surgeon they had. After an MRI I was told I could be in surgery next week to repair the damage with a "Tommy John" procedure and some cleanup that needed to be done. I'd be out of commission for a few months and if all went well hopefully I'd be able to lift weights again but most likely my elbow would never be the same. I received a similar opinion from a 2nd surgeon in the area. This was very concerning since part of my income comes from fitness modeling and relies on my ability to stay in peak physical condition requiring me to workout with weights 5-6 days a week. None of these doctors seemed to understand that and didn't seem to care or believe me when I said, "I need to be able to lift weights and stay in top shape." Confused and upset at the prospect of surgery and the uncertainty of ever being able to lift weights again I looked for a third opinion from someone that works with top athletes and is used to getting people back in peak physical form ASAP and understands the need to return to top form. I couldn't deal with a question mark in terms of my future. Through another doctor I know in the Chicagoland area I got a recommendation for Dr Cohen. I made an appointment and flew into Chicago just for the appointment. Dr Cohen didn't actually perform a procedure and ironically he didn't really do anything except keep me out of the operating room. He urged me not to have surgery and instead rehab my injury. He insisted I'd be able to return to my previous lifting form. I was skeptical but Dr Cohen has a very calming presence and his assistants do a great of job of communicating with you even over the phone to inspire confidence. I was put into a physical therapy program and although it was a long road back I'm happy to say that I'm lifting the same weights I was pre-injury without surgery. Within one year of my injury I was back in top shape, lifting weights like normal, and I shot a full workout with Men's Fitness - no problem. In doing nothing, Dr Cohen actually did so much. He could have easily taken a much more modern day and proactive approach that so many surgeons take today and rushed me into surgery where he could "fix" my problem but he didn't. He profited far less from me as a patient by putting me into physical therapy because he knew that would provide me with the best benefit and he put my wants and needs far above his own which is what any great physician should do. It's hard to explain but Dr Cohen listens, understands, exhibits compassion for you and your situation, then instills complete confidence in you that he knows what is best for you and that it WILL work. And he does this in a short meeting that lasts only a few minutes. I was impressed that he is able to create a connection with a patient so quickly and do all of this in such a short amount of time, but I'm glad he does otherwise I might never have gotten in to see him. He is a model of effective time management and efficiency and I would HIGHLY recommend his services to anyone with an elbow injury. Go see Dr Cohen; you will not regret it. I saw another post mention his short appointments as a negative but I have to disagree. He gets all the information he needs and only the information he needs. He provides you with everything you need to know and never rushes you allowing you to ask questions as well. If you want small talk or chitchat then get a friend. This is a tough review, there was good, and bad. They called 2 days before my finger surgery and they demanded my co-payment, my surgery was scheduled for Tuesday but they demanded the co-Pay Friday? I told her on the phone I do not have the insurance card on me because I'm at work and I can't pay until I get home. She said if I do not pay by 3 PM they will cancel my surgery?? I was confused and frustrated. They were telling me this on Friday and I was not scheduled until that next Tuesday. If Dr Cohen did not have the reputations he has, I would never have used this office, they make you feel like it's all about the money and not the patient. read more

I owe Dr. Cohen and his team more than a huge "thank you" for the work they did to repair my broken hand (bad break, two surgeries, four pins). They were extremely knowledgeable, gave clear and strict instructions each step of the way. I fell in December of 2014. My left wrist was a mess, as my hand was going in one direction and the bones in my arm, at my wrist were going in another direction. In the emergency room in a Chicago suburb, they pushed the bones back in place as best they could (closed reduction), and splinted my wrist. I went to a doctor associated with this emergency room, and he put my wrist in a cast. It was painful and it was rubbing. I complained and he showed me the x ray and told me there was a lot of padding in there. Two weeks later when he was changing the cast I said it looked deformed and he told me that I had crushed one bone, and I should wait until it healed to see how much functionality I would have. My hand was raw where I complained of rubbing. The pain was excruciating for three weeks. Needless to say, six weeks later, my hand at the wrist was deformed, and I had poor functionality. I couldn't turn my hand to get change at a drive up, or use a cash station machine from my car. He told me his solution was to shorten one bone to match the crushed one and cast me for six months. I went looking for the best wrist surgeon in Chicago, and through recommendations and reputation I found Dr. Cohen. He said he thought he could rebuild my wrist and take a bone graft from my hip and fix it. He told me it was a big operation and I happily willingly agreed. I waited until work permitted the time off. I had the surgery. My wrist hurt for 3 days and has been pain free since. It felt better in the splint right after surgery than it did weeks after the original fall. Today my wrist is perfect. It works beautifully and I couldn't be happier. My experience with Dr. Cohen and all of his staff is excellent. Jocelyn, his Nurse Practitioner was super responsive to any questions I had, and when I emailed her I had an answer the same day. read more

Dr. Cohen & his staff are amazing. Our son broke his wrist on a Saturday in two places while playing travel baseball in Wisconsin. He is comitted to play D1 ball after he graduates HS. So, a full recovery is critical. Crazy parents that we are (or not so crazy), we researched for nearly all day on Sunday, possible surgeries, best docs in town, etc. We settled on two doctors. One local (in the suburbs) & Dr. Cohen (in the city). Monday morning: The local guy's office offered an appt at 3:30 on Monday or Wednesday sometime. Dr. Cohen's office told us: "How soon can you get here?" So we hopped on the expressway, got right in to see first his PA and then met with Dr. Cohen. He listened. He looked at the test results. Told us to go downstairs get a CT scan & since they had an unusual number of breaks that weekend, he apologized that he couldn't fit our son in for surgery until either Thursday or next Monday. Then as we were taking care of our copay, Dr. Cohen stepped back out into the waiting room and asked us to come back to the office after the CT scan so he could better explain exactly what he would do for our son. After the CT scan, we again very quickly got back into an exam room to review the results. Dr. Cohen answered every one of our questions. And then he told us they were able to bump us up to a Tuesday surgery! Surgery went well. The staff in the surgical center was also amazing. Very caring. Again, even tho we were his last surgery of the day, Dr. Cohen was very patient with our questions and fully explained everything. I have been a patient of Dr. Cohen's for years. He has been supportive and offered a variety of options for my numerous and often complicated medical conditions. Not only is he an excellent surgeon, but he has a fabulous bedside manner. Not all excellent surgeons have this. Anytime I have to see him it is a wonderful, visit. When it comes to orthopedic hand surgeons, Dr. Cohen really is as good as it gets. After struggling with hand pain/ganglion cysts for years, I finally decided to visit another orthopedic surgeon who performed an MRI. The diagnosis was a ganglion cyst to the volar side of my wrist and that traditional surgery was my only option to have it removed due to the close proximity the cyst was to my artery. I went to Dr. Cohen after doing MUCH research and as we started talking, I knew that he was the surgeon for me. So going into surgery, I was expecting a ganglion cyst excision, 7-10 days in a cast, and a couple therapy sessions and I'd be on my way. During surgery, Dr. Cohen discovered that my ganglion cyst had caused some damage to my median nerve so a neuroplasty was performed. So my idea of a "simple recovery" turned into a much lengthier process (SIX WEEKS of therapy 3x a week and three follow-up visits with Dr. Cohen). My primary concern was if my hand functioning would return to normal (when I started therapy, I had less than 20 degrees of flexion and even less extension). Dr. Cohen was very reassuring that he expected a full recovery which meant a lot to me considering my recovery expectations were pretty much debunked. I'm very happy to say that after a long rehab course, Dr. Cohen was right! My hand feels pretty great and I am not having the kind of pain that I was having prior to surgery! I'm only 4 months out of my surgery and still feel a bit stiff but Dr. Cohen believes that it will go away in time and I have no reason to think differently. He does not let people speak and if you don't answer a question fast enough he takes it that your answer is no that you're not in pain where he's touching. Where to begin? As a doctor of chiropractic, my hands are my livelihood and without someone like Dr. Cohen on my case I don't know what I would have done. It was a very complicated hand/wrist surgery repair. After breaking my wrist several times over the years in high school/college football and Muay Tai kickboxing competition, I was left in less than optimal shape. A prior surgery left a large screw shifting back and forth within my scaphoid bone. Dr. Cohen removed the screw, replaced the void with a piece of my iliac crest, pinned it together and left me in great shape. I was referred to Dr. Cohen through my worker's compensation insurance for an Independent Medical Examination. Upon getting notice that I was being sent for an IME, I was nervous that I may be treated unfairly, or that my symptoms would be downplayed despite the fact that the examiner is supposed to be unbiased (as per my experience with the first Doctor the insurance told me to go to at Aurora before I saw a formidable surgeon). I read reviews and decided he was a highly respected surgeon, and particularly well renowned. I certainly can't deny any of that. However, it falsely alleviated my fears of receiving what seemed like sub-par treatment. Prior to half way through the examination, I legitimately felt compelled to apologize. To the tune of: Sorry for being here, I realize conducting a grip strength test is neither fascinating nor something you should have to be doing. Sorry for not being able to fluidly answer strangely phrased questions that require more explanation than a "yes or no." And I say I felt like apologizing because I genuinely felt like an inconvenience. I was rushed through the tests (i.e. he was pulling the device away before I was able to fully complete them...which i feel would potentially skew results as it is), and rushed in general. Naturally I'm assuming because he was obtained by the insurance company and not myself, that a pleasant "bedside manner" wasn't something worth exuding. While I understand that some people aren't always easily personable, one shouldn't leave a Dr's appointment feeling like they should apologize, regardless who's paying for it. Though, to be fair, he did say he hoped I continued to get well at the end. read more

Dr. Cohen performed complocated surgery on my finger, with the assistance of a second surgeon. The injury was severe. I believe the work Dr. Cohen did was as good as it could be. I also deeply appreciated the attention I received from his experienced assistants Reena Patel and Dimpal Patel. They spent as much time with me as I needed. I also greatly appreciated Dr. Cohen's direct nature in our conversations. He told me what was wrong, what needed to be done, why it was complext, and what I could expect. He has the bedside manner of a busy, expert surgeon, which is quite different from my family physician. Dr. Cohen did take all of the time that was necessary during each of my four visits before and after surgery to show and explain to me the pictures of my finger. I understand that Dr. Cohen is busy. I waited a bit on a couple of my visits to see him. On one of those visits he was in and out pretty quickly, but not before he told me what I needed to know. Most important, though, is Dr. Cohen's skill in the operating room. I listened to him work on my finger for 90 minutes or so and I'm leaving with the result of his work. Dr. Cohen was wonderful during my recent surgery for a badly fractured wrist! I broke my wrist during an unexpected fall. It was extremely painful! I researched orthopedic doctors who specialize in this type of fracture and learned he was one of the best in the field. I saw him at Midwest Orthopedic office on Ashland St. in Chicago, by Rush Medical Center. The office is new and beautiful with great parking and valet if needed. The staff in the entire building is friendly and helpful. Dr. Cohen's staff is particularly nice and helpful. Technically Dr. Cohen is excellent. To my pleasant surprise he is also kind and caring. He seemed genuinely interested in how I was progressing. The surgery was easy as I was in and out in one day. After surgery the pain markedly decreased. I attribute that to his excellent surgical skills. I knew I picked the right surgeon when looking at my arm in the operating room I saw him cleaning the arm himself before surgery. I had no complications which I am sure was due to his excellent surgical technique. The scar looks great already and will only improve in appearance. Dr. Cohen also prescribed occupational therapy which I received in the same building. The therapists were great! I am thrilled with my recovery and should have full function of my wrist and a minimal scar. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Cohen and definitely recommend him to everyone! . . read more

Dr. Cohen is the fourth Orthopedist I've seen for my wrist problem and the first one to accurately diagnose and treat the problem. I met with his team first who talked to me for quite awhile (which is what I expect at a teaching hospital, people, you need to get a grip). They are residents and learning and I am willing to work with them, knowing I am receiving the latest and most up-to-date research. He walked in, looked at my x-ray, listened to my issues and diagnosed me. Right. away. Now three months later, I have full mobility where I had none. I am dismissed from his care as of today. I am thrilled. If you are looking for touchy-feely, hour long discussions, well, go somewhere else. IF, however, you want someone who looks at arms 10 hours a day, has written more articles on the appendage than I would ever care to read EVER, and treats the issues, you have found your guy. I can't thank Dr. Cohen enough for the amazing care that he provided for my 12 year old son after he broke his right radius (displaced) while we were out of town. Our family came to Dr. Cohen after we had seen another physician with Midwest Ortho at Rush, Dr. Mjaanes earlier in the year for a sports injury. Our experience was so good that we decided to return to the practice. Let me say that we live in Wheaton, IL and are lucky enough to have many good doctors close by, but the initial experience with Midwest Ortho really made our decision easy to make the trip downtown for for my sons wrist repair. Dr. Cohen did not disappoint us! Starting with our initial meeting, he was very kind, compassionate and informative regarding the treatment for my sons injury. It required surgery and pinning-something I did not expect. He scheduled us very quickly and made sure we felt comfortable with the procedure he was recommending. He also made sure my son was comfortable in terms of pain control prior to surgery. Each and every visit (and there were many!!), Dr. Cohen was so very compassionate and concise with the information and treatment plans he spelled out to us. Where do I start? My experience with Dr. Cohen and his team was exemplary! I fractured my wrist. Unfortunately my care was delayed due to a family emergency. As a result, my wrist healed improperly requiring a more extensive surgical intervention. I realize Dr. Cohen is, apparently, a great high level surgeon. If that's what you need, then fine, and if you are rich and famous then even better. However if you have a more mundane problem then you are better off avoiding him. Honestly I had a terrible experience. I realize he is probably doing great things for other people, and I don't mean to downplay that. I just want to give fair warning to people who might have less interesting problems - it's probably not going to be a good experience for you. You will see him for five minutes and he will dismiss you, in my case while I was still asking questions. read more

I broke my right hand 15 months ago. I called Dr. Cohen's office on a Monday morning and on Wednesday afternoon I was in the OR with him only after he explained, re-explained and then confirmed I understood what was happening. He was thorough, efficient and has a fantastic team of people who support the excellent work he does from making the appointments, answering a thousand questions, assisting Dr. Cohen, applying the casts, splints, connecting me to the right hand therapists, following up on my care etc. I could go on and on about how amazing this team is but honestly, the proof is in the pudding. Just as Dr. Cohen promised, I'm back to full use of my hand. He might be quick moving and tough to connect to but HE KNOWS his line of work. I hope I never have another need for his services but if I do, I would have NO HESITATION in reaching out to him or his team. I KNOW I'll be in "good hands"!!! read more

Insurance nightmare from Dr Mark Cohen's practice of overbilling customers b/c Blue Cross Blue Shield rejects his offices charges. Do not use. I visited Dr Cohen to assess an elbow injury. Dr Cohen's office collected my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance information before I met with him. Following the meeting, Dr Cohen's office invoiced over $2300 directly to Blue Cross, however Blue Cross rejected his charges, so the charges are now my liability. Dr. Mark Cohens office is not responsive or helpful in addressing the charges with Blue Cross. read more

If it weren't for Dr. Cohen, I would not have gotten my quality of life back so quickly. Knowing what a genius he is, and being in the healthcare field myself, I knew I was in good hands when undergoing several surgeries for nerve compressions. He is a brilliant man, excellent surgeon, and very caring person. Dr. Cohen did a wonderful job on my thumb arthroplasty and ligament reconstruction. If I did not have the surgery I would have been forced to retire. If the surgery was not done perfectly, I would have been forced to retire. Dr. Cohen works at nothing less than perfection. My thumb is better than ever and I have gotten ALL my strength back. Unfortunately (accident prone!) I have had to see Dr. Cohen a few times for a wrist injury (severed tendon) and then shattered elbow. Dr. Cohen saw me the same day I called about my wrist. My regular doc said he was the best and he was. I had surgery that week and he carefully repaired all of the nerve and tendon damage. I had no feeling in my hand and fingers when I went, but he knit them back together and the nerve feeling came back! When I developed a cyst in the same area which pressured the nerve (see, I told you I was accident prone), he took care of that as well. He said it would be 12-18 months before we would know if I had healed completely - it has now been 13 months and the damage is healed!! Also my scar looks like a plastic surgeon did the stitching. The elbow was less complicated (thank God) but he fixed that as well on short order. I highly, highly recommend this practice. (FYI, at the time I had IL BCBS). read more

In Feb. of 2015 I received a call my son was in an ambulance 2 hours away from me, he broke both wrist bones at the growth plate, dislocated his elbow and fractured his elbow. He had fallen 10 feet during a snowboarding outing. The local hospital did what they could do , and I was left to find the correct physician to help my son. It was a severe break!!!! With help of family I was able to get into Dr. Cohen , who came with high recommendations ! We saw him the following day. My son had surgery on the wrist, spent one night in the hospital, and did physical therapy. He healed beautifully. I knew we had one chance to get the arm back to functioning , and Dr. Cohen did just that. I really cannot say enough regarding the outstanding care we received from him and his entire staff. I am beyond grateful that Dr. Cohen was the physician we were lead too. My son is doing extremely well. He has 2 plates, 14 screws, and his elbow is back to normal. Dr. Cohen gets 5+ stars from us. I slipped and fell on a wet floor and used my right arm to brace my fall. Long story short, I fractured my right radial head (the little ball-like bone in the elbow responsible for all the subtle elbow movements). Being right-handed, this is my e v e r y t h i n g arm. I am a pianist/vocalist and music teacher--my life and livelihood depends on the complete function of my right elbow. After consulting several sources and the top doctors in orthopaedics throughout the country, all arrows kept pointing back to one man...Dr. Mark S. Cohen @ RUSH hospital in Chicago. As a teacher, I was on an HMO insurance plan and Dr. Cohen was out of the network of the physicians I could use. Still, I set-up an appointment with him because my right elbow is my LIFE and I wanted to go to the best. Wow. The quality of service offered by this doctor, hospital and support staff was exemplary. Arriving in a flimsy sling, Dr. Cohen directed his staff to pack my arm in protective cast-like packing as if it was a priceless artifact from three thousand years ago. There was absolutely no comparison to the quality of care I received in this office compared to all the other appointments I had for consultations. It was clear that this was the doctor for the job, and I was willing to pay thousands of dollars out of my own pocket to have the right doctor do the job. But the story gets even better. Not only is this man THE go-to guy for elbow injuries in the city (if not country), but he is an honest man with a great deal of integrity and compassion. Just as I was setting up my appointment to have surgery with Dr. Cohen and spend my life savings on the operation (even though my insurance would have paid for everything with an in-network HMO doctor), Dr. Cohen remembered a colleague at a nearby hospital that IS affiliated with my HMO network. He encouraged me to get my operation arranged with the other physician because he thought I would have a similar result and all my medical bills would be covered by my HMO. I needed surgery in a few days and the other doctor was quite busy, but thanks to Dr. Cohen the other doctor found the time to fit me into his schedule on short notice. Dr. Cohen and his staff assured me that I would be in exceptional hands with the other surgeon and they were right. The other doctor did an exceptional job, taking the extra time to put my radial head back together (thus saving my own bone) rather than replacing the entire radial head with an artificial metal one--which is what other surgeons were pushing). Dr. Cohen put my best interests ahead of his own, and turned away a lucrative operation so that I could use part of my savings to take my children to Europe this summer. He took the time and care to point me in the right direction and I will be forever indebted to him and his exceptional RUSH orthopaedic staff for giving me the positive words of encouragement to get the operation done right. I was never rushed or treated like a "second-class citizen" even though everyone at RUSH knew that I was in an out-of-network insurance plan. In fact, while at RUSH and in their care, I was treated like a queen in a professional, yet very caring, gentle, and supportive environment. Special acknowledgement goes to Physician's Assistant Dimpal Patel for her caring nature, professionalism, positive words of encouragement, and breath of knowledge. I have always believed that the people who are at the top of their field are there because they are great. The people at the top have nothing to prove, because they are the best of the best. They also surround themselves with the best support staff. Unlike many other doctors with huge egos, Dr. Cohen has a humility about him that made me realize that I was being cared for by a truly great doctor...the creme de la creme in the orthopaedic world. I don't want to make a review too long but I have a lot to say about this AWESOME Doctor. I came to Dr. Cohen distraught. I had had 3 prior surgeries with a doctor that couldn't fix my issue. He was very upfront and honest with me from the very beginning. He explained that my issue was something that he would work his hardest to try and correct. He performed surgery on my arm and walked me through the healing process. He fixed me!!! He was always available and he even got on me when I wasn't doing what I was supposed to. Dr. Cohen really really is an amazing Doctor. His staff was excellent!! I love love love Reena she is an amazing woman!! There is really no words good enough for the care this staff provided for me!! I went to Dr. Cohen with nerve pain and mechanical symptoms in my elbow. From start to finish Dr. Cohen and his staff were amazing. He his very thorough and answered all of my questions. Dr. Cohen is the man!! After other Dr's could not figure out what was wrong with my elbow, Dr. Cohen and his team worked together and were able, in one visit, to diagnose my elbow. Surgery was scheduled immediately and now (less than two months) since my surgery, I am pain free and problem free. Huge kudos to Dr. Cohen and his PA, Jocelyn. I'm writing an updated review after meeting with Dr. Cohen for a second time today. Despite feeling like he wasn't interested years ago in our first meeting, Dr. Cohen came in today totally respectful and was very patient in explaining my options. He takes a conservative approach to treatment, which is respectable since many surgeons are quick to cut. I wish I would have listened to him years ago, because he was right and it may have saved me the trouble of a painful surgery. Even though he didn't tell me anything different regarding my treatment options, he did give me hope that this injury doesn't have to end my recreational athletic career, because he has encountered numerous professional athletes that continue to compete with similar injuries. I'm glad that I decided to try and talk to Dr. Cohen again, because him and his team did an excellent job describing the mechanics of my wrist injury and explaining the probably progression and treatment options that I am facing. read more
