We specifically chose Mark Schneider because of its reputation as a fine jewelry establishment and experience with custom jewelry. We were looking for someone we could trust to resize my custom engagement ring shortly before our wedding. Unfortunately, our experience made us leave almost immediately and take our ring elsewhere, I'd make sure you do not trust them with your custom jewelry. We initially called and were greeted very warmly over the phone and told to come in so they could take a look at the ring. The woman who greeted and assisted us in person was friendly, but once the other woman came in, I don't even think she introduced herself...we started discussing the actual resize, the experience became concerning. My engagement ring has two diamonds set inside the band at the 6 o'clock position. Preserving those diamonds and their placement was one of our biggest concerns, and we explained that. There was essentially no discussion about how the resize would affect them or how they would be protected. She simply took the ring and began making notes. Then came the sizing. I know approximately what size I wear, but the "6.5" sizer I was given was so tight that I actually started questioning whether I had been wrong about my own ring size( she did not give me the correct 6.5 sizer) . She also measured my existing engagement ring and confidently told us it was a 7.25. We knew that was not correct and have the original GIA/documentation for the ring. At that point, we became extremely uncomfortable leaving such an important piece of jewelry there. We were also eventually told that the jeweler who would actually perform the work would not even be in until Tuesday. Yet we were discussing leaving my engagement ring there and being given a Saturday completion date without having spoken to the person doing the work, without a clear explanation of how the custom diamonds would be handled, and with both my finger and existing ring apparently being sized incorrectly. My fiancé asked, can she try on a ring to see, she simply mumbled we don't CARRY RINGS OF HER SIZE. A fine jeweler doesn't carry any 6.5? Even an estate ring? Once we asked? So are we just leaving it here she said, yes? I immediately took my ring back. We were also asked outright how much my engagement ring was worth, which felt surprisingly inappropriate and uncomfortable. especially standing there with my fiancé. If there was a legitimate insurance or liability reason for asking, none was explained. The jeweler we ultimately trusted with the ring never needed to ask us that question; they evaluated the ring itself, reviewed the relevant documentation, discussed the custom work with us, and focused on the actual resize. When we left and went elsewhere. The difference was immediate. An actual jeweler correctly measured my ring ( very different size than at mark Schneider) helped me determine the best finished size and fit, discussed the two interior diamonds and confirmed how their placement would be preserved, reviewed the ring documentation with us, and gave us a clear completion date. That is the level of care and confidence we expected when handing over an engagement ring. Resizing a custom engagement ring requires PRECISION and TRUST. When an establishment presents itself as fine jewelry, I expect the person accepting a client's jewelry to either have the knowledge to properly assess it or simply say, "Our jeweler isn't here today; please come back when they can personally evaluate your ring." We came in wanting to give a local business our business. Instead, we left feeling relieved that we trusted our instincts and did not leave my ring behind. Based on our experience, I would not entrust an important or custom piece of jewelry here for repair or resizing or at all. What makes the experience even more disappointing is that the resize wasn't necessarily going to be our only business with Mark Schneider. We were also interested in discussing a custom men's wedding band. We specifically sought out a fine jeweler with custom experience because we wanted a relationship with someone we could trust with important pieces. I'm happy to have asked for the printout of our purchases over the last 11 years. After this last exchange of ideas, desires, drawing, specifics, deposit of my materials I cannot come away impressed nor satisfied. $6K for a ring when I supply more than enough materials. When I told my husband to guess how much they wanted it took 6 guesses and he still didn't get that high. My husband purchased just under $14k over 11 years, birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. Several of those pieces have needed to be extended or resized. Necklace length 15"? thats a choker. Bracelet 7 1/2" rope, not unless your 20. Dome earrings that have a ding after replacing since one of the posts was denting the hollow underside. Withdrew ALL my pieces because impractically high pricing. Just did a few repairs. Tooo rich for our wallet. They wouldn't look at my trade ins of estate pieces even for gold weight or stones, offered me $200. Pieces from a Pasadena renowned jeweler. They do everything in house and that is something that was so valuable to me. My wife and I couldn't be any happier with the care, time, and communication we received from the team. My husband (and baby daughter!) and I all really enjoyed the entire Mark Schneider experience and would *highly* recommend them to anyone looking not only for a special piece of jewelry, but also for amazing, high end customer service. My husband and I just had our tenth anniversary and decided to upgrade/add a ring that commemorates the difficult journey we made from struggling students to a place of blessing (blessings that include our three month old daughter). I had actually discovered Mark's work in a magazine at Starbucks before I even met my husband, and was immediately drawn to his floral engagement pieces. They were such a work of art! I'm actually not a "jewelry person" and generally am a simple person, but I do really appreciate art, craftsmanship, design (I work with engineers), and I love nature, so they really caught my eye. I would sometimes go to their website and browse and dream... Fast forward to the present... When my husband mentioned getting an anniversary ring, we immediately knew the piece that was right for us...Mystic is reminiscent of the simpler floral design my husband chose ten years ago, and feels like it represents the growth we've experienced in our decade journey together. The laser etched engraving that says "love you forever" in Mark's secret heart is a sweet touch (and super cool from an engineering/design perspective!!) One aspect that is amazing about visiting the actual studio is that they can customize the ring however you want. We kept most of the design as-is, but because I am more simple and because we just had a baby, we asked them to lower the head so that the center stone didn't stand out so prominently. They easily took care of this, and could have done more had we asked. We got to peruse their sketch book, which showed how other customers had either modified one of Mark's original designs or designed an idea themselves that Mark's team made a reality. The sketchbook was a highlight for me, because I got to see the artists' handiwork... Which is part of the fun experience of visiting their studio. We also got a tour of the lab where they make the jewelry, which was awesome for someone like me who likes to see how things are made, and the front studio was like visiting a museum where we got to see Mark's award-winning pieces! The customer service was outstanding. We haven't found a sitter for the baby yet so we had to bring her with us. I was so nervous they would look at us with distain for bringing a baby to a fancy jewelry store, but instead they were excited to see her and several of the "grandmas" took turns pushing her around in the stroller--even Mark himself took a turn! I tried to keep my cool, but after so many years of admiring his work, I felt like I was meeting a celebrity hero of mine... And here he was, pushing my baby around his shop! Instead of feeling like country bumpkins, we felt like royalty and were treated with genuine kindness and service. Instead of feeling out of place in a snooty store, we felt like guests where everyone was very down-to-Earth. Nas helped us the most and she felt like a friend by the time we were done. Easter was so helpful and sweet. She helped us customize the ring to fit my needs and had a wax mold made so I could see what the ring would look like and how it would fit on my finger. She also showed us a variety of green gemstones and we went with a green amethyst stone that was the perfect shade of green. When he finally purposed months later, it was the first time I saw my engagement ring and it was PERRRRFECT! Perfect is actually an understatement if thats possible :) We later came back for my wedding band and again Easter was helpful, accommodating and sweet. Two years later after much wear & tear, the green amethyst (heat treated stone) has lost it's color and shine so I called Easter for a replacement stone and she actually remembered me, my ring and my husband! Days later, Easter called saying that she found the perfect stone so my husband and I went to see. She showed us a couple of beautiful green tourmalines and we fell in love with one of them which she knew we would because she put a lot of time in finding them for us. After coming through the double security doors and some nice greatings with Mark Schneider himself and his team, they had my necklace fixed within 10 minutes using a laser in the back room and wouldn't accept payment! I was very impressed with the way they treated me there, even offered water and other beverages for my wait. This place is within walking distance from my home and work here in dt Long Beach so it's great to know a local business that is so diligent in the way they treat their costumers, even if today they weren't paying. Mark and team seem to have a great deal of enthusiasm towards their craft and their work shows from looking around the showroom however briefly.
