I've been going to Marker 20 for yeeears! A party of 7 of us went in for dinner on the patio last night. First, we were told we couldn't pull tables toegther because they were under staffed. There are 9 tables on the patio with two servers. Only 3 tables sat inside. I've waited tables for many, many years and I could have rocked that 9 table section by myself. Luckily, two tables got up at once and we all sat down. Service was horrible. Half our meals came out and then 15 minutes later...the other half arrived. I ordered a blackened tuna sandwich for $11.95...the tuna was an undercooked 4oz and they charged me $2 more dollars for sweet potatoe fries that were absolutely disgusting. An incredibly over priced, tasteless meal. Hey...I know its a bar...but over priced food, small portions and customer service are very manageble. I won't be back to eat to say the least. read more

I'm writing a five star review because I know this bar & grill has been rated unfairly by unfair critics. I have read enough of the 43 reviews to know disgruntled biased yelp reviewers to know that this is one of those few places that deserves a good review. Michelle was my party's server and she was great. came in during a busy hour, food was delivered in under 10 minutes. Crab dip and Philly was great. Beer is fair priced. DESERVES a stop and you should try this place out. read more

I stopped in from my parents, not knowing what to expect. The food was wonderful and the service was great. I, unfortunately, found a hair in my nachos, but the waitress was very accomadating and immediately had them remade for me. They were exceptionally polite and I was very pleased. So I just went to this restaurant for brunch. The food was ok and the atmosphere was pleasant. However, the service was absolutely horrendous. The waitstaff acted as if any request we had bothered their very souls. Our waitress took down a majority of the orders wrong. They took forever to rectify the situation. This place desperately needs to work on their cleanliness. The bathroom was nasty - wet, dirty floors, a trashcan overflowing with paper towels, no toilet paper, and no hand soap. Went in, we waited 20 minutes and we were never approached by a single employee, never given menus, and had to sit at a dirty table. Walked out and ate at a restaurant down the street. Terrible service. read more

Everyone talked this place up to me. I'm not impressed. They forgot my drink order then my food order. Ordered chips and cheese dip but the chips were stale. I ordered their most popular dish and wow it wasn't good. How do you mess up fish and chips. It looked burnt and it tasted like it. I think the location is great and the outdoor area is nice in summer. They have music sometimes out there on weekends. I have had over a dozen visits over there years and the last time was a few months ago and it was my last. Unless it gets a complete overhaul. The oil was old and scorched but they cooked all the fried foods in it anyway even after we complained they brought us a new fish and chips and hushpuppies that were chocolate colored and tasted of burnt plastic. The blackened tuna sandwich was hilarious. The bun super stale. Beyond stale! The tuna poor piece of fish treated the way it was - first it was the size of a toddlers hand. Then it was butterflied UNEVENLY so half was 1/4 inch thick and dry as cardboard and the other side was 3/4 inch thick and frozen in the middle. I had to laugh. Even butterflied it did not cover the whole stale bun. Brown lettuce with grit on it. (maybe not rinsed well) Ketchup was 'off" tasting so we couldn't even drown the fried items in that. We got the crab dip which was the only good tasting item but they only gave us what amounted to ONE regular sized pita bread slided into strips to eat the huge bowl of dip with. ? The wait staff was not helpful at all. She shrugged. Guess the prefer the BAR part of their restaurant so if you are going for drinks it may be the place for you just don't get food. read more

I work the at bar next door so it was a great spot to go to after a long nights work. I came in on Holloween on Saturday during the downtown block party. The place was packed full but my girlfriend and I were lucky to find a spot at the bar open to order a drink . Love the bartender Jenny, she knew my drink and gave me fast service even though she was bombarded with customers. There was live music on the outside deck which is great to find a show after work that's only a few steps away. Overall, a great place for a local to go after work to unwind, have a good drink, and talk with friends. read more

Been here a few times and always enjoyed the food. Until now. Tonight the crab dip lost the battle to an overly heavy hand with the garlic salt on the toast points. The Cajon sauce for the the dirty rice balls was so watered down there was no flavor. The fish and chips were so oily that pressing them with a fork produced a pool of oil. The chips were brown almost black but limp with oil. And I won't even address the the sausage and chicken pasta. Well my son who will eat anything, barely ate half. As much as I dislike writing this review, I will speak the truth to the people. Forgive if I seem whiney. 5 years ago when I lived in Hampton, Marker 20 was THE local yokel place to go for lots of drinks, waterside breezes, and really good food. When my husband and I moved back to Hampton Roads, we were so excited to visit an old favourite. but, phew, what a let down. Unfortunately, Marker 20 has become more divey and the food has gotten borderline inedible. To start, the restaurant is not clean inside or out. The smoking everywhere outside at lunch was intolerable. We sat outside because it was a nice day and we had our toddlers with us...they do better unconfined. Anyway, the amount of smoking was just excessive and unbearable. I take it Marker is really just for the drinking now, it certainly no longer seems a place for brunch with the family. you have no idea how disappointed I am. I sincerely longed for Marker 20 and their crab dip, sweet potato fries, and the different grilled cheese. Marker used to have the best service, food, and vibe. it was one of those places I would always bring visiting friends and family to kinda show off the local flare...beautiful downtown Hampton is so quaint and the waterfront is gorgeous. Our server could not have cared less about us being there. Anyway, I ordered all of the above items that I had missed so much in this most recent trip. the grilled cheese was really greasy and mushy, the crab dip's consistency and taste was off and pretty unappetising, and the sweet potato fries were limp and depressing. I felt like an old friend broke up with me and I left Marker 20 underwhelmed with a disheartened feeling and a single tear in my eye. read more

being a detroiter living in los angeles i was THRILLED to get a pint of bell's two hearted pale on draft, because out west i can't get it. my gf and i split the clam chowder which was... clear?? i was expecting new england clam chowder, this is hampton claw chowder. it was good, a little salty, but still good. the we had the crab cake burger, ditched the bun and just ate the cake, phenomenal, and one of the best fish and chips i can recall. We took our three children to Sunday brunch and wanted to try one of the locally owned restaurants. We settled on Marker 20 where we sat for approximately 15 minutes before anyone spoke with us. She said she was taking drink orders. We said we were ready to order food as well. The waitress seemed visibly annoyed and explained for a food order she would have to go get a pen; we asked her to go get a pen. When she returned 5 minutes later she explained that their kitchen was backed up and they would not allow any modifications to menu items. That might have worked if we didn't have young children and if they were not a restaurant trying to impress with unrefined pretentious menu items aimed at making them unique (ie. only choices of waffles are made with hot sausage or sweet potatoes mixed in). My daughter simply wanted them to omit the sour cream from her breakfast burrito. The waitress launched into an unprofessional diatribe about the number of orders she had and how much time it would take if she left the sour cream off of 20 orders. My daughter became visibly upset at the scolding, and we left. That was our first and only experience with Marker 20. I will certainly not return and would never recommend it to anyone else. They do make it easy to understand why so many locally owned restaurants fail. read more

Hole in the wall. Food is pretty good, service average (meet your needs after you express them, but don't anticipate them), not the cleanest, but a great patio. Brian Sewell plays sometimes on Sunday's and sounds good when he shows up. Don't plan a day around him showing up though. Too iffy. read more

loud! crowded! maybe good for lunch but for a bar nothing to be found here except for the patio. I would try the taphouse for better beers/food or goodfellas for better local music acts. the secret here is that the acts they do have can be heard on the street without going inside to pay cover. read more

Love the food, okay atmosphere. Try there fish and chips, awesome and different. Crab dip is also very good. Ladies night is a great time to go out b/c cheap drinks and half off dips. Pretty dark inside and can get rowdy. Weekends get busy and loud. read more

Just had brunch here. It was great, we had the eggs benidict, the special for the day, and crab cake sandwich. The food is amazing, the staff is attentive but not on top of you. Also had a bloody mary and it was perfect. We will be coming back frequently. :) read more

I am a disabled Veteran from multiple tours in Iraq,as well as Kuwait. I have a service dog that I need for PTSD, and a TBI. I was admitted into the establishment after being interrogated about my service animal, even though he is clearly marked by his vest, patches, as well as tags... Half way through my first beer, I was approached and asked to leave because of having a service animal. The owner ran away as asked to video him kicking me out because of having a service animal. I proceeded to video the bouncers telling me I had to leave, the owner called the police, 4 cars arrived to the scene, then the owner tried telling me my dog was not a service animal, then tried saying I had to much to drink, and the whole time not only the bouncers, but the police were not removing me from the establishment. Several customers walked out in show if support for me being a Veteran, and clearly being mistreated. I did leave, and am seeking legal action against Marker 20. I would ask any Service Members, Veterans, or family of to boycott this establishment. I do have video of this event to back my statements, as well as my service animal's certifications, and license. -this was posted on my Facebook page by a fellow veteran. I am not an unfair reviewer by any means, this is actually my first review ever. I was just so astounded on how they treat their "patrons" I think others should be warned. My evening was ruined. My husband and sister-in-law were drinking and talking at the bar on a Saturday night at around 11pm. Next thing I know the bouncers are grabbing me and my sister-in-law, and they have already physically removed my husband when he was coming back from the bathroom. Apparently he was nodding off at the bar, and this indicated to the bar tender he was too drunk. My husband normally goes to bed very early for work, and he falls asleep even watching TV at home if it gets past 8pm, so it wouldn't surprise me since he was just watching TV while I was talking to my SIL. Had we been drinking, yes (its a bar!), were we causing any issues, no! They could have asked us to walk around, and not served him anymore if they thought he had too much. Instead they embarrassed us, and the bartender was laughing as I was trying to find out why we were being forcibly removed. They seem to have a history of treating their customers like dirt. read more

Tremendous! Hotel food was inedible, so we walked a few blocks and happened upon Marker 20....LOVED it. Salad with sauteed veggies and blackened tuna was wonderful, and my daughter had the unique grilled cheese which she loved. This is the place to go for lunch!! read more

Has a few TVs. Could use a better draft selection. Staff is nice. Some of the food is pretty good. The salsa is really amazing.

We walked along the street and decided on this restaurant based on the posted menu. We found out inside that the posted menu did not necessarily match the menu we were given inside. My husband wanted a baked Italian dish, but were told they were out of it. He got a paella dish that he said was fine. The waitress put a red bottle on the table that we thought might be ketchup, but my husband said it was a sweet/sour sauce and it was good on the paella. My husband was able to get a nonalcoholic beer which was good, because we had a long drive ahead. I ordered the tuna Reuben. The waitress asked how I wanted my tuna cooked. I asked her what she suggested. She said she did not know because she did not eat tuna. I asked her to ask the chef and she just raised her eyebrows and said it was sushi-grade tuna. I said that did not help me and asked her again to ask the chef/cook. It was fine when I got it. First bite was not good, but it was tasty after the cheese melted. The fries had a slight garlic taste and were ok. read more
