The food was ok. I smelled like a deep fryer after I left though. I had to change clothes.

They have a good sized uncovered outdoor patio, and more limited seating inside. The interior seating has a homey feel, the decor is simple Northern, Lake Michigan. The menu is short, but a good variety of options, I'm not sure how often it changes, as the entrees during our visit were a bit more substantial, suited for cooler weather. We had Ceasar salads, Mac and cheese, burrata, and Chicken Marsala. I also had their soup of the day, a beef chili, my favorite item we had. We thoughts the Ceasar was a standard good. The Mac and Cheese was a bit boring and dry. The Burrata was great, nice fresh tomato's. We also enjoyed the chicken. I had a flight of three of their wines, nicely presented. I thought both of the whites, first fruits, and the Gruner Veltliner, were very good. Gilchrist is relatively newer to the area wineries and a nice addition.

The bread they serve with these two appetizers goes perfectly and is also dIvine. I loved the atmosphere and the staff. They treated my little group of three like we were royalty. I recommend this establishment highly.

Food - 3/5 Service - 1/5…read moreAmbiance - 4/5 My group of friends and I were visiting Michigan for a wedding and while stopping in Sutton's Bay, decided to get lunch at V.I. Grill! Three of us had the lunch special of a half sandwich of chicken salad with corn chowder and one got the perch basket. We decided to sit outside because it was a nice enough day so the ambiance was pretty good. The chicken salad sandwiches and perch were decent but the soup was underwhelming, thick and lacking seasoning. We decided against saying anything because there was salt and pepper at the table and that helped a little. I also added at least two tbsp of hot sauce. When we got the bill, I paid quickly after skimming it on their little handheld payment device. It wasn't until I was reviewing the bill later than I realized they added on a whole additional sandwich charge. I know servers are busy and it was probably an honest mistake but still frustrating for the bill to be wrong. I called the restaurant and they were nice about it but I had to call multiple times for them to look into it and their voicemail is completely full. I had returned home so it was not possible for me to go in person to resolve the situation. The restaurant is still in progress of resolving the situation so if they do, I will update my review and add a star for service.

We needed gluten free crust for one of our party members and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the traditional crust and the gluten free option. The pepperoni was delightful but I have to say the sausage pizza stole the show. I will definitely be back and hope to enjoy the restaurant in a future visit!

We put our name in, and it was a 30 minute wait. The gentleman taking names and generally making sure things flowed, was friendly. The menu is mainly speciality pizzas (there was not a build your own option, but there was a basic pepperoni and margarita on the menu), a few salads, apps, chicken parm, and one pasta offering. Several pizza options were more interesting, including the two we ordered: the potatoe and raclette and the summer veggie. The summer veggie had very fresh zucchini and corn. I was pleasantly surprised how good the corn was. We had a side of ranch and fresh marianna to dip the crusts in. Both very good, though it took awhile to get them as the server was busy. They have a very nice wine list, as well as a few cocktails (spritzers), and non alcoholic options, our minor enjoyed the rail splitter.
