I was visiting the area and decided to stop off and pick up a few groceries before I headed towards home. The shelves were well stocked and with the products all neatly arranged. Everything I needed was easy to find. The signage in the store made it easy to find the sale items. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The store was neat, clean and well kept up. The store seemed very busy but there were plenty of registers open so the lines went pretty quick. I would gladly shop here again the next time I am in the area. read more

At 838 Lafayette rd on February 27, 2026 at 11:23 am with cashier Theresa C emp# 0410154 She Made comments to the person that was in front of me when he came back to purchase the newspaper. The man asked me if it was ok if he went in front of me because he only had the newspaper, the cashier Theresa said "it doesn't matter what she says I'm the boss here what I said say goes and she's got way more than 12 items" I counted the items, there were 16. I told her, there only 16 items , and I said I was sorry and her response was was so rude " yeah just like I told the guy in front of you you have way more than 12 items". I said " you be more polite to customers" I asked her if she wanted me to go to another aisle and she responded " I just want you to leave the store ", then She called me a "little bitch" UNDER HER BREATH, I asked her " did you just call me a little bitch". she denied it. The girl stocking cigarettes behind immediately responded to me, with a raised voice, the girl said " SHE DIDNT SAY THAT" The girl stocking cigarettes was about 6 feet behind her at the time there was no way that she would've heard her say anything under her breath anyway. I kept saying to her, that she shoukd be nicer to customers, but every time I told her to be nicer to her customers she'd let out up big sigh , put her hands up and say " oh my god" At one point She stopped ringing my items up at to ask asked me if I wanted to leave and shop somewhere else. She'd bag the items and then put them far left so I couldn't reach them. Check the security tapes if necessary. She even gave me a bag and said " here, bag it yourself" She made a comment when I was grabbing my bag and leaving she said "go drink your wine " because I bought two small bottles of Pinot Grigio. That was a disgusting comment. This is the worst experience I've ever had in a store. It was embarrassing. She was awful to me, just because I had 16 items instead of 12. I'm almost 50 yrs old and this is the worst cashier I've ever interacted with. I still feel sick about it. I was so bothered by it that I swore at her by the end of that experience, it was awful. BEAN BURRITO first of all senior citizens, wear your glasses check the ingredients especially you all you vegetarian is out there just because it says bean burrito. Don't think they left the beef, the chicken, the gizzards and the chitlins out of it. I was aghast when I got home and read the ingredients. I was so looking forward to a vegetarian burrito anyway for those of you who are wondering what the ingredients were this is a list of them. I just do not understand why one day I was in this Market Basket & it was business as usual & the very next day I went in & at least 75% of the employees had changed, literally overnight. I have nothing against diversity but when you replace more then half of your staff with people who do not speak English that might cause a communication barrier between the customer & the worker. Especially when the workers prefer to speak their native language to each other while I am waiting to at least be acknowledged. I say hello & get no response, I ask a question & just get a confused look or a "no hablo english". I'm sorry but I feel it should be a requirement to speak the native language of the customer base you are dealing with. If I moved to Mexico & sought employment I would not be surprised if I was not hired to work where I could not communicate with those hiring or shopping in the business I was applying to work at. read more

I love this store. It's small and has everything that I need to purchase on a weekly basis. However, sometimes the gossip at the cash register is ridiculous. Marissa, I've found, is disgusting. Don't turn your back on your way out; she might be talking about you. She for sure is she's talking about the people she works with. Sad! read more

Ok, I admit that the location isn't the most desirable.. it's tucked away in the old Ames plaza and the parking lot has definitely seen better days. However, not being one for big, mega stores, its just right for me. This location is obviously one of the oldest. And I remember shopping here with my mom for groceries during summers at our beach house... that was a looooooong time ago! With things as they are these days ( COVID) it's clear that the store is going to great lengths to keep this one sanitized. Entering you must wear a mask/ face covering, will receive a nice welcome & be given a cleaned cart. Each asile is clearly marked with arrows - and yes, there are those people who parade down the up and up the down ones without any thought for anyone else.... You will find them any and everywhere. They don't carry ALL the items you would find at the newer Market Basket stores. But it's interesting how I will see something that I wasn't able to buy at one of the mega sized stores... I don't purchase meat, but for those who do they have it all. * Just a thought; it may be fresher because being a smaller case they have to fill it more often? I like the produce at this store and there is usually a variety of (still fresh) quick sale items if of interest. Wine and beer a plenty... And usually lots of coupons. Very convenient! I also find that this store attracts better help. They are always friendly and quite helpful and a good part of the reason why I keep coming back. read more

I can't believe this place is still in existence, hidden in the old "Ames" plaza in Seabrook, less than 5 miles from the other Market Basket! It's kind of scary, and outdated, but somehow even cheaper than the one down the street. The produce is honestly better than shaws, and they seem to carry all the brands that the other major grocery stores do, except that they were out of whole milk in the brand I buy today. If I write this review the fair way I would compare it to all other Market Baskets and not an independent store. Chain stores can be a challenge because some of the locations are brand new with all the bells and whistles (food bar, seating areas, sushi bar, wider isles, better lighting, and most importantly: more shelf space.) This location is so dreary and does stock many of the products that I buy on a regular basis. The first being Bell and Evans chicken. It didn't appear they week out of it as their was not even a space for it in the poultry section. The produce was in rough shape with most of the broccoli having yellowing crowns. They were stocking blueberries at the time and the first two (2) that I pi ked up had a visible moldy one. I gave them to the gentleman in the green jacket and he was not phased that he had just put this on the shelf for sale. All in all, Market Basket is the store that "gives you more for your dollar" buy I like to have a decent selection of premium brands, gluten free products and fresh produce. This store was lacking in all these areas. read more

What can I say....It's more for your dollar. I was surprised after starting an experiment to see if I would save money over shopping at Shaw's, that the produce here is extremely fresh. The selection isn't quite what Shaw's in North Hampton has but the prices are definitely lower. As the other reviewer stated this is a clean Market Basket compared to others I have been to. One star for not one employee in the place paying attention to make sure lines move. I had one item, there were several people with Way more than 12 items in the express line. The guys at the podium were oblivious and talking amongst themselves. I tried to go to customer service to see if they could ring up my one item but of course there were two more employees there having a private conversation and they paid no attention to me. I had to just leave the item behind because I had time constraints. I usually love market basket but today was not a good experience and I probably won't return to this location. read more

As soon as I walked in, all the front end cashiers and baggers looked miserable. No smiles from anyone, and everything about the place was low energy. The prices are good and the sales are excellent. The guy in the red coat: assuming the manager...(AJ) never greeted me or smiled bagging AND put all my meat with the vegetables may I add. However, I never noticed until I got home. When I left he quietly said "have a nice day" as he was looking straight at the floor. I loved this place back when the girl was managing the place. Everything was smooth and efficient. I could tell she knew how to run a business. Who ever this new guy is, seems too young and immature to be running the front end. read more

The nicest manager ever! He helped me find bacon bits! This is a small basket, but a good way to avoid crowds. A little travel is worth it. They do not have a bakery, but that's ok, we can get dipping bread elsewhere. It's smaller and doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it is a place I don't dread shopping at! read more

This Market Basket is very busy and located just a very short distance off Rt. 95. They have a small beer and wine section with some great local and craft products at reasonable prices. A great place to stock upon drinks just over the border. This is not a brand new and spotless store by any means. read more

We always shop at Market Basket but about 2 years ago we found this one to be the best by far. The only down fall is it does not have a bakery but I buy my baked goods at the local bakery. It is small, but the check out is very fast. I NEVER wait in line. Every Market Basket should send employees here to work first. The employees are very nice, funny and the manager is most accomadating. It is not unusual to see him walking up and down the isles checking on customers. He makes announcements on the specials and it is actually a fun place to shop. I never have a wait at the deli counter and again the people working there know the customers and they banter back and forth. Everyone is laughing and smiling (customers). I wish all supermarkets could make grocery shopping this pleasant. The bonus is the liquor store next door. The other bonus is very litle traffic when going this way. Please do not ever close or change the way this store is managed! We love it and all our friends and neighbors now shop here due to convenience (location) and the overall experiance. We travel from West Newbury, Ma as it is quicker than going to Newburyport and the lights. read more
