It was close to where I worked and mainly the drycleaning and alteration services always exceeded my expectations, especially when it comes to my vintage clothes which I buy a lot. I get good customer service (coming and going) and when having to do fittings for alterations, I never felt rushed or hurried. And during my fittings for alterations, she always suggests or recommends the best option for a bitter fit or appearance. I've used this cleaners for over a year now and they're very reliable and reasonably priced. The location is conveniently located and they do a great job. I've also had many pants, dresses, and even a coat hemmed by them and the final product always looks great. Market Square Cleaners is conveniently located by Archives Metro Station. I first came on 07/26 for the drop off. The lady at the counter was very friendly and was very knowledgeable. I brought in a sweater-vest I made and I wanted it to just be cleaned and nice before presenting it to the intended recipient. I asked if they could "block" it and she said, "No". That would shrink it too much. I said "Oh no! The size is perfect!" She answered, 'drycleaning will be fine" I hesitantly agree to leave my handmade garment there and go the weekend waiting in anticipation. Monday, July 30. I bring my ticket to the counter and ask if the sweater is ready and it was! She gets it down and it looks perfect! The size doesn't look any different and the sweater integrity is intact. I had no issues with anything and I was very pleased! They do have a $10 minimum on credit cards so bring cash! The total for the cleaning of the sweater was $7 and some change. I was looking for boot heel repair and they did an awesome job. Can't speak for their dry cleaning but for shoes I will definitely come back! I had two pair of my winter boots completely worn down on the heels (so much so that the inside structure was showing). Have been looking for a place to fix them up and was dreading that I would need to take it to some pricey hard-to-find cobbler store since most dry cleaners only do basic repairs. Turns out Market Square Cleaners actually does serious shoe repairs-- the lady at the store was nice enough to provide an initial quote and said that she could follow up to provide accurate quote after the person that worked on shoes took a better look at the damage. She called me back the next day ($40 for the small pair and $50 for the pair that lost practically a quarter of both heels) and was reasonable for me since I've paid $20-30 for tiny high heel repairs, and these were large boot heels. Had my fingers crossed on the results and less than a week later I walked away happy and ready for winter-- great work, looked almost new, and the heel completely built back! They also did a solid polishing job and my scuffed up boots looked really fine! Highly recommend their heel repair for shoes-- great service and good work. read more

I go to this cleaners constantly all the time and it seems like new people are running the front cash registers. I asked for a alteration of a t-shirt and when I picked up shirt they had tag backwards. Unfortunately I was home by this time of noticing the mistake. $25 is a lot for a mistake like this. I might have to find a new cleaners if this keeps up. Smh Paying 50 dollars for 2 shirts to be altered there should be no mistakes at all. Unexceptable. read more

I've been going to market square cleaners for several years now ever since I moved into the Penn Quarter area. On a normal trip to the dry cleaners, you are greeted by a lady up front and asks how many articles of clothing. The prices are reasonable but the cleaning quality is definitely noticeable. One of the few dry cleaners I can trust with my suits and my wife's dresses. They made sure to actually talk to me about any requests and specific spots to be done. So far I have never been let down or unsatisfied. There is a specific event I remember when I first moved into the area and needed an EMERGENCY load. My suits were all wet and stinky because my luggage had a bumpy ride. My wine actually broke during it's journey and in addition to that it was wet from a storm. I needed to have it done next day for personal issues. They have next day service for a little extra, but it was money well spent. I picked it up the next day and everything was practically good as new. Thanks to them everything went according to plan. If you are looking for a quality dry cleaning to try out I would suggest this one. If you have anything from suits to blouses they will clean it with a fairly reasonable price with top-notch quality read more

Over priced and horrible cleaners. Have sent my dress shirts there to be cleaned and pressed. They were never cleaned and most recently over pressed. Do not recommend anyone use these guys if you like your clothes. They just ruined one of my shirts and the refused to replace it, they just kept trying to clean it, over and over and over. read more

Arguably the WORST tailor and dry cleaning service in DC. You will be overpriced for a terrible, terrible job that you'll have to get fixed. Honestly, enter at your own risk. As for the dry cleaning, 2 out of the 3 times I've brought in SIMPLE items for dry cleaning they have all come back with more stains than when they started. Things have been scorched, things have mysterious brown spots, and even buttons have been missing from shirts. It's terrible. The man and woman who work there most days always try and deny that they did anything wrong - they've tried to tell me each time that I just didn't "see it" when I brought it in. Right. So the very last time I went, I took a before and after picture just in case they tried to screw with me again. Sure enough, the white blouse came back scorched and they denied it. I showed them the picture and told them I wouldn't pay and they FLIPPED OUT. Stupid. Tailor wise, they are the worst effing people you could imagine. I brought in jeans to get a small hem and they butchered them entirely. I wish I took photos. They hemmed the jeans INSIDE OUT and created a visible cuff. It was so bad. Anyways, I brought them to VIP cleaners by Mt. Vernon Sq. who were able to add in a new hem and thankfully correct the horrible mistake that Market Square Cleaners made. Bottom line, you'll get your items back in worse shape than when you dropped them off. read more

I don't know what has happened to this dry-cleaner. I've used it for some time and it was always acceptable, although slow and fairly expensive. Lately, though, it has become strange. They complain about cat fur and "cat smell" (for those of you without cats, they don't smell). The final straw was when they claimed the fur and "cat odor" of several sweaters was so bad that they would have to clean them separately and charge more; then they decided they couldn't clean them at all. I retrieved the sweaters and walked down the street to Georgetown Valet, which cleaned them with no problem and had them back in two days, much faster than Market Square's service. read more

This dry cleaner is convenient if you work or live in the Penn Quarter area of downtown DC (Northwest). I find their prices are a bit on the high side but aside from that I had been relatively pleased with their work... until yesterday. I took one of my mens' collared L/S shirts out of the plastic sleeve and was putting it on and noticed 3 buttons had been destroyed. I called and asked if they would replace the buttons, they said sure. So I brought in the shirt today. The lady I could tell was not pleased. She offered to replace the one button that was clearly cracked and about to fall off. I said "okay". Then she printed up a claim ticket and I noted a charge for $4.95. What? She says she has to dry clean the item. But I say it was just dry cleaned and I wore it for a day then brought it in. It's wintertime here, it's not like the item was sweaty and nasty. But she insisted the shirt had to be cleaned. I decline and said I'd get it fixed on my own. C'mon, I know you need to make money but you have to stand by your service. I know I've been at least $700-$1000 dollars at this place and you can't replace a button for free? You just lost a customer over three stinking buttons. Is that a sound business decision? First off ... they do a fine job, no complaints about the quality of their work at all. And unlike some reviewers, I got all my clothes back and did not receive anyone else's clothes. However ... very expensive and it takes far longer for your clothes to be available than other nearby dry cleaners. It is DC and everything costs more, but their price for shirts was about 30% more than a neighboring competitor. The other place I was using had overnight turnaround (a big plus for visiting businessmen). They are the only place I could find that would actually do laundry (not dry cleaning but an actual load of laundry), but their prices for laundry are ridiculously high IMHO. read more

I get my items back cleaned nicely, on time, and at a reasonable price. This is the worst dry cleaners I've ever been to. At first, we just found a few of our things missing and later found out that they'd been given to the wrong people (in those cases, the people were nice enough to return the incorrect clothing). But eventually they lost of a bag of our stuff--more than $300 worth the clothes! I don't know why we didn't stop using them earlier. It was convenient because they deliver and pick up from the local apartment buildings. In fact my building has footage of them taking our clothes, although they insist they "never received them." Don't fall for their line that they are a "high-class" cleaner. Their trash. We learned the hard way, you don't have to. Don't do it! Go ANYWHERE else. read more

For more than 15 years, I have trusted them with the most important items. This includes cleaning and repairing leather, expensive suits, shoes and linens. If something cannot be repaired, I patiently ask and they explain why. When possible, they will expedite. Most important, they will let you know up front if they cannot meet your crazy requests. They are not the low cost cleaner, but I am sure their rent is sky high. read more

I was looking for a dry cleaner near my office and happened to walk by this one. The entrance is actually on D St between 8th and 9th (not on Pennsylvania). Its a nice looking little shop. Both drop off and pick up were super fast and the employees were very nice. Dropped off on Tuesday afternoon and clothes were ready on Friday -- that is a little faster than my previous dry cleaner. Prices seemed reasonable for downtown dc -- $6 for a cashmere cardigan, $6 for a skirt, $11 for a dress. They also have a changing room so you can try on clothes for alterations (I haven't actually tried this out yet) and they seem to do a pretty brisk shoe repair business -- lots of women's dress shoes on the shelves waiting to be picked up. read more

i moved to DC in late January 2014. Convenient location which is half block from my apartment. They have drop off service to my apt concierge, which is great. They are very pleasant and very friendly. They do great work and the alterations are fantastic. The only complaint if i really have one, is that they are very very overpriced. Coming from the Midwest, the cost of dry cleaning the same amount of clothes weekly is about 50% MORE. WOW! I guess DC is what everyone said it was, EXPENSIVE...... read more

I have used this cleaners for more than 4 years and up until recently, I had been very pleased with the dry cleaning and laundering of my dress shirts that I received as well as the overall customer service. All of that changed with a recent laundering of dress shirts. I took a dress shirt out yesterday and it was the only one I had clean so I had to go to work with it as I had a client meeting. The shirt is basically brand new and cost $140.00. When I took the shirt off the hanger to put it on the left shirt cuff was basically destroyed. Many holes and worn spots along with the button pulled out of the cuff leaving a hole. The cuff can not be repaired therefore the shirt is ruined. I brought the shirt by the cleaners today to show the managers and to express my displeasure. All the store managers could say ways that this never happens that they check the shirts and would have called me. I told them it was basically a new shirt and showed them the rest of the shirt to show them how crisp and perfect the rest of the shirt was. They again said they never let shirts go out like this and do not damage shirts when the clean and press them. I told them this time you did. It didn't happen on its own. The cleaners did not offer to replace the shirt or give me some amount of store credit to be applied to future service. I picked up shirts today and they did not offer to accommodate me on this pick up either. I told them before leaving that I was very unhappy with their service now and that after being a client for over 4 years that I will have to now find a different cleaners to use and that they just lost me as a client. I can not recommend anyone using this cleaners. They destroyed my shirt and did not offer anything from a customer service standpoint. Bad service, bad support, lack of concern or empathy. Terrible: they ruined my clothes. I was looking for dry cleaners near my office to fix up some minor stains on a pair of suit pants, and this was close by. Seemed like nice people, and promised a pretty fast turnaround. Bad news: when I picked up the pants, there was a large hole and worn area on one knee, suspiciously right on top of one of the former stains. It looked exactly like a chemical cleaner had been used on the fabric and eaten right through it. They claimed, however, that I had torn the pants before bringing them in and the pants had that damage when I dropped them off, which is absolutely false. They kept insisting they they didn't even clean them because they had noticed the hole before treating the pants and didn't want me to think it was their doing. Well, it *was* their doing. After a bit of a go-round where I insisted I had never seen that damage before and they kept professing their innocence I realized I wasn't going to get anywhere. I later remembered that years ago I had taken shirts there once before, and they burned the collar on one and broke buttons on another. It's not worth the costs to actually sue them over the cost of the garment, but now I'm out one suit, so the minimum I can do is never return there and spread the bad word here on yelp. We use this cleaners as they pick up our dry cleaning from our condo- very convenient. However they routinely miss or add stains to my husbands pants. Missing stains was annoying enough, but to get back items you sent to be cleaned in worse shape then when you sent them in is unacceptable. They are not that cheap, but I am sure around the going rate here. Regardless, I will be taking clothes into another dry cleaner from now on. read more

I don't like to leave bad reviews, but the service was truly terrible. I took in a suit to be dry cleaned and have a pocket repaired, as well as the buttons tightened. I was quoted one price for the dry cleaning, but charged a higher price when it came time to pay. Not a big deal, it was just a few dollars. Unfortunately, when I put on the suit the next day, I discovered no work had been done, the pocket was still ripped and the buttons were loose. I took it back, he promised to have it done by the next day. I picked it up and took it home, found the pocket had been fixed, but the buttons were still the same. Not only that, but the repair that was done was very poor with loose stitches and uneven with the other pocket. So now I've been in 4 times and paid $22 just for the repairs, and all I got was a poor stitch job. Extremely disappointed. read more

First time, shirts were fine - but they gave me someone else's clothes, which makes me feel bad for him (and worried that it could easily happen to me). Hopefully the clothes made it back to him after I returned them. Second time, my clothes smelled affirmatively bad (certainly worse condition than dropped off) after they were "cleaned." Avoid this cleaners at all costs! I spent a lot of money at this place and the cleaning is inconsistent. That was one thing but one day they delivered my dry cleaning with a note that said "one item missing". I was going out of town and so I went back 2 weeks later and asked for my missing item--a $200 skirt. The woman pretended like she didn't know what I was talking about, asked me if I lost the skirt and promised to look. I went back a few days later and they told me the woman wouldn't be back until that afternoon. I walked by 5 minutes later and she was there! I went in and asked about the skirt and she told me that I lost it! How can I prove that it's missing?? I got upset and told them that they were not good business people in treating their customers that way and the man started cursing at me in a foreign language. So inappropriate. Do NOT use these guys. Missing clothes happens but a good business will reimburse you and certainly will not treat you rudely and pretend that their mistake is your fault. read more

This is the worst dry cleaners I have ever used, with the worst customer service. We dropped off a suit on Friday that we needed for a wedding on Sunday. We specifically asked the cleaners if they could do that for us. They said yes, come back after four on Saturday. We did so, but they were closed. We had to buy a new suit for the wedding that very night. We came back on Monday and told them what had happened and they denied ever saying that! They swore up and down they had said come back on Friday (the same day we dropped it off). This was a blatant lie; my boyfriend and I had both been there when the woman at the register said Saturday, and we even double confirmed. Not only did they lie about having made the mistake, the woman started yelling at us on Monday and screaming at us in front of her other customers. We left, and just gave up, but i would NEVER go back there again. Even worse, the suit was not even cleaned properly! It still had a number of stains and wrinkles.
