Fist time coming here, and so glad I did! I stumbled on this cleaners by happenstance and the urgency of needing same day dry cleaning service....before leaving for a vacation trip. Yeah, I know. Leave it to me to bank of getting dry cleaning done the same day I am leaving for a trip. And, just my luck....my usual dry cleaners machine was broken!! So I was scrambling to find another cleaners in the neighborhood, with hours to spare. Yelped this one and gave them a call. I was greeted with the friendliest voice and she simply asked....How soon can you get here and the rest was done. I was greeted by the owners and they got me in and out of there. In just the past 5 years, I've lost several items of clothing to the grim reaper of bad dry cleaning so you can understand if I'm extra careful about choosing cleaners. After calling 5 different cleaners in the area AND Zips, I decided to give U Street Cleaners a try because of their organic cleaning method and new customers get 15% off their first visit. I should make a point of saying that there are 2 other cleaners closer to my house and U Street Cleaners is out of the way for me. I dropped off 3 pieces of clothing: a beaded silk top, a work skirt, and white a cardigan. The top and the skirt turned out fine, but I found very obvious brown and yellow stains on my sweater. They resembled grease marks and I was certain they weren't there when I had dropped off the sweater. (I do love to eat, but I'm not such a slob that I would manage to drop greasy food from my right shoulder all the way down to the front of myself!) The two ladies behind the counter first tried to argue that I had dropped it off in that condition. As I persisted how that wasn't possible, one of them changed the story and said it was the cleaning material that stained my sweater as she was trying to work out some of the stains. Not only that, the material enhances the stains that it cannot get rid of, especially on white. WHAT?! If she knew the cleaning material stains white material, why would she use it on my white sweater?! By that point, I was beyond livid. Since I was ready to cause a scene in front of other customers, they FINALLY agreed to take it back to re-do. I was nervous and paranoid that they might completely destroy my sweater, but I got it back all nice and pristine--the way it was supposed to be done the first time around! read more

I love them. Been using them for two years now. My concierge takes the clothes to them and they deliver them to my residence. Next thing I know is my clean clothes are on my closet hangers. The only thing additional they could do is use cedar hangers, but that's asking too much... :-) Outstanding work with alterations too. Just moved into the neighborhood from right up the street and they seemed OK from the outside. Gave them a shirt, came back with glass buttons broken. The lady said please bring the shirt by and we will take care of it, we always take care of anything we break. I brought it by and she said that they didn't do it and there's nothing they can do about it. Gave them a white tie that just needed to be ironed out, it came back with a portion of it a weird off-white stain. I've never experienced any troubles at any other cleaners, but these guys don't seem to be doing their work well. And they refuse to take responsibility for their f*ck ups. Service is always top notch here. Their prices aren't the cheapest, but it's worth it for the quality. This is my go-to spot in DC for high quality alterations. They've done excellent and fast work on a few bridesmaids dresses, as well as several pairs of pants. I recently had my wedding dress cleaned and preserved here. The owner was very flexible on the price (gave me a significant discount on the standard price because the dress was not very dirty) and turned the dress around quickly. I started taking my dry cleaning to U Street Cleaners because they advertise "organic dry cleaning" - and while I haven't inquired as to what this means in actuality, in my head I've interpreted it to mean that they don't use those awful chemicals most dry cleaners use. In addition to environmental benefits, U Street Cleaners provide all-around excellent service. They're always polite, helpful, and great at getting my clothes dropped off or picked up and me back on my way. I can't think of another transaction that requires less time. Though they offer same day service I usually opt for the 'regular' turnaround - never more than 2-3 business days. While their prices aren't exactly rock bottom, which I attribute to the "organic" cleaning, I don't feel like I have to give up my latte habit to have clean clothes (though cutting out lattes might mean I'd have to dry clean less, I'm ridiculously more likely to spill something on a dry-clean only, light-colored skirt than anything else I wear). Sweaters are $3.30/each and skirts are $4.95, and they also do alterations - a quick re-hemming only set me back $5 and was complete in the same amount of time it takes to dry clean the item. U Street Organic Cleaners is the only dry cleaners I've used in DC. They're more expensive than those cheap-o places but there are some services that are worth a little extra to ensure that your clothes are well-cared-for. Embarrassing, but after rent, my clothes are probably one of the biggest line items in my budget. It's worth making sure that investment is a long-term one. Like most places, it's the little things that make me a loyal customer: I have a silk dress that I ripped the seam on a few weeks back and have continued to wear with safety pins (I realize this is contrary to the above, but I'm incredibly lazy and hadn't had a chance to get it repaired). I sent it in with my dry cleaning and when I got it back, it had been patched. WIthout me even asking! And they didn't charge me for it either. I've moved away from the U St. area but will continue to use U Street Organic Cleaners. read more

My dry cleaning comes back clean and pressed with care and the service is always friendly and quick. Same day is never an issue. Guys, you know how at most cleaners your sleeves are over-pressed and they iron-in more wrinkles? Well that never happens here, a pet peeve of mine. Side note: I can vouch for a few broken buttons but I believe the last time that happened was in 2003, so all's forgiven. I simply stopped taking in shirts with "fancy" buttons, they will replace most buttons if they are common. This happens at a lot of cleaners. read more

I went there to get my wool pea coat cleaned and they did a fabulous job. It came back smelling really nice (not that weird smell some other cleaners have). The staff was friendly - like, happy to see me like we were old neighbors-friendly) and their prices seemed competitive. A bonus that they are right around the corner from my house. What's the price of cleaning organic? Apparently, about double the cost and half the service. While the owners are always informative, friendly and very quick with their service, I can't recommend this business. Two times I had a pair of slacks completely stretched out at the waist band (and nowhere else) when the material itself was a simple non-stretchy cotton-wool blend. Now, I didn't lose 15 pounds overnight, let alone only in the waist, but they tried to convince me nothing had ever happened like that before so it must have been me. I would imagine ladies' slacks are a fairly common item, so I would have hoped they had gotten the kinks out of that process. Future customers beware. Maybe try carbon-offsetting or switching laundry detergents if you are worried about environmental concerns. Ruining pants at premium cost is just not worth it on my limited budget. read more

I first came here after another cleaner ruined my suit and U Street Organic Cleaners were able to remove the stain that the other cleaner couldn't remove after several tries. The staff is friendly and very attentive to my needs and my clothes are perfectly cleaned and pressed and most importantly lint free which was another problem that I've faced with the cleaner across the street. Also a big plus is that they do the work onsite so you know exactly where your clothes are. I highly recommend it!!! They do a good job but they are unjustifiably expensive. I took 9 shirts and 13 other pieces (pants, sportcoats, skirts, dresses, etc.) to get cleaned and the bill was about $115. In contrast, Zips (which admittedly is a pain in the ass trek up Ct. Ave.) is a full $75 (that's right, seventy-five dollars) cheaper for the exact same clothes. Now I am not about to say that an organic cleaners in the U Street neighborhood shouldn't be more expensive than a budget cleaners in Van Ness, but a full three times the price? The downside of rocking your fly-est gear to the club is the inevitable drunk girl spilling cranberry juice on your brand new, light taupe color, ruched chiffon skirt... Being that I just purchased it and was more than a little disappointed that it was only seen at a very lame club full of hipster posers, I was DESPERATE to find a dry cleaner that could work a miracle so it could be debuted somewhere worthwhile. U Street Cleaners did just that. The prices are a little on the high end, but the service is great, they don't use yucky chemicals, and they can be trusted with designer clothes that those of us who live in this part of the world sometimes haul down to Dupont or Georgetown to get cleaned. I switched to this place a few years ago from Jin's down the street because U Street uses organic techniques. Yes, it's more expensive, but the service is very friendly and they've done what anyone would expect of a good dry cleaner while treating me like a valued customer. I tried to switch to the Georgetown Valet that opened up next to Eatonville since's it's on my way to and from the Metro. Though more convenient and cheaper I happily returned to U Street Cleaners because they have never misplaced part of my order like Georgetown Valet did on two occasions in just three months. Now that I've learned about U Street's pickup and delivery service (from Yelp!) I know I'll NEVER go elsewhere. read more

I've used them few times due to good reviews and free pick up with delivery, thought the prices could have been better. I'd give them 4 stars but since my last incident they have lost credibility in my eyes. Not only they have lost my husband's shirt, but also with out my knowledge, they have charged me for stitching a button $4!!! I never had any agreement with them, to pimp my cloths extra, plus call me crazy- but I think that if due to clean, cloths are being defected in any way, dry cleaner should be responsible for any repairs. I don't like to be charged for something with out my knowledge and agreement, even if I have automatically set my payments. So I gave them a call, of course they said that shirt isn't missing, I have miscalculate the quantity in a first place- my word against their situation. And now the best part comes about the button- the said that they didn't know that i don't want any repairs plus if I don't like the button, I can cut it off and bring to them for a refund. They're fine for dry cleaning, but don't trust them for any alterations or fixes. I had a tear in my pocket and they charged me $13 to fix it, and it came undone about a week later. I took it in again telling them it came undone, and they wouldn't fix it for free, they charged me again! And they didn't fix the hem in my pants even though I paid for it, they had to take it back again and fix it, which made me wait several more days for it. read more

I've been a customer here consistently for two years. I use the store's delivery service, and they come by once a week to pick up and drop off my clothes. There isn't any extra charge for delivery, but their prices are not the cheapest. And if they run any specials, I've never heard of them. I can say they are dependable and they have never lost an item of my clothing. It's hassle free and the service is consistent so that earns my loyalty. There's been occasions where they singed the cuffs of my shirts (probably during pressing). I pointed out the issue and while they did not offer me compensation of any kind, the problem has not recurred. I've also used them for replacing buttons and hemming. I'm really pleased with this place - they are super nice and do good work at a low price. I had two things altered, one to replace the lining of a coat, and I paid significantly less than I had expected. There are two places that do alterations across the street which I went to first and they were totally unhelpful - one insisted I make an appointment and come back later even though no one was waiting, and the other didn't have any idea how much it would cost and told me to come back on a Sunday morning at 10 (?)? Thorough, great quality and haven't lost a thing. I am in town with a 25 person team for two months. UStreet was selected to provide dry cleaning and wash/fold service pickup/drop off in our Foggy Boston office. Three times a week. Don't want to pay $4 for a pair of socks to be washed in a hotel or $30 for a suit to be cleaned. Heavy dry cleaning volume. I have done this in at least 6 major cities across America and UStreet is first entity that hasn't lost/damaged a thing (as of today) or gotten someone's chonies in the wrong return wash/fold bag. BEWARE--they lose clothing and then don't apologize for it! I had the WORST cleaners experience at U Street Organic Cleaners. I took a two-piece suit for cleaning. When I got home I realized that the pants were missing. I confronted the owner about the missing item, and she badgered me by asking me a total of about 20 times whether I had taken somebody else's clothing. Rather than apologizing for their mistake, she kept insisting that I was not returning somebody else's clothing. Why would I do that? I just wanted my pants! When I returned to see if they had found my pants, she blamed me again and asked me another five times whether I had taken an item. This is unacceptable behavior.
