Everyone wears a name tag (as someone who is not good with names, I LOVE this!). At the beginning of class everyone does an introduction. Everyone was so friendly and it was a very nice community. The area is cute and there are restaurants nearby to grab a bite to reward yourself. The instructor was very kind and patient with the students! Add to it calendar immediately after you receive confirmation for the class because the time doesn't show up in your email confirmation. There's plenty of parking nearby. Most parking allows for up to 3 hours (max). I recommend checking out the shop. They also still fabrics and other items. Don't judge my finished product too harshly

I took a beginners class here - it had plenty of street parking around the shop, convenient hours…read more(class was from 6pm-8pm), a small class size (8 for sewing machine basics), and an informed staff. The instructor (Valerie, I believe) was very detailed in her instructions that included threading a machine, debugging, ironing, sewing different stitches and lengths, assembling and dissembling the machine, and making a mini pillow. After she demoed different steps, she would have us try and wandered the room quickly correcting us if something wasn't quite right. We also had to repeat each action twice to develop the muscle memory. There are classes available for all things a beginning sewer needs to know up to how to make your own bodice at advance levels. The store has patterns, fabric, and take-home kits. If you cannot make a scheduled workshop, you can do the lesson over private instruction. I had followed YouTube instructions before and done lots of searches trying to figure out how to sew with limited success. This class multiplied my knowledge by 1000 and helped me identify what I was doing wrong on my own so I could course correct. If you're interested in learning to sew, this is your place!

There a large windows so the lighting is perfect for seeing true colors. I have always been greeted when I walk through the door. There are a lot of employees but I didn't feel pressured or rushed to make a selection. On the contrary, as I was auditioning a couple of options I had multiple employees walk over and give my choices a "look" and they offered their opinions, which I found helpful. Amy is a COMPLETE GEM. Her classes are so worthd taking. The other huge plus is that she has an educational YouTube page where she posts many videos to continue your education from the shop to your home. How many times have I had a great experience in a class somewhere else, only to get home and forget a key step when I try to make the project? That isn't an issue with Amy's classes. Every time I have shopped in the past, I've been told that nothing in the remnant box is over $4.99 a yard. But, the woman insisted that it was still $8.99 a yard and she didn't know how that piece got in the remnant box. OK... Shady AF...No sale! Had she done the right thing, she would've made a very large sale because I needed fabric for multiple projects. Instead, I went to the Fabric Basement in Alexandria and was treated very fairly and got some quality fabrics. I do miss the previous owner, rest in peace, because he was a very honorable and my family frequented this store for about 40 years with no issues.

I found In Stitches on yelp and decided to go check it out. Everyone I spoke to was lovely and showed me which section was cross stitch, and also which size needle I'll need based off what fabric I'm working on, and also a little bit about Aida in general. I spent too much money in my excitement but also happy to spend it at a small business like this. I'll definitely be returning to them in the future for future projects!!
