Every time I have shopped in the past, I've been told that nothing in the remnant box is over $4.99 a yard. But, the woman insisted that it was still $8.99 a yard and she didn't know how that piece got in the remnant box. OK... Shady AF...No sale! Had she done the right thing, she would've made a very large sale because I needed fabric for multiple projects. Instead, I went to the Fabric Basement in Alexandria and was treated very fairly and got some quality fabrics. I do miss the previous owner, rest in peace, because he was a very honorable and my family frequented this store for about 40 years with no issues.

I feel confident I will be able to make what I have in mind. The check out line was a bit long with only one cashier, Flora. She was very patient and also knowledgeable on discounts and item availability. The fabric was a little pricey per yard, but I did receive a discount for purchasing the end of the roll. The store was a little messy in the fabric area I'm sure this is due to the holiday crowd. There were plenty of options to select from in fabrics, less in the thread area. This is unprofessional and bad customer service. The company or staff representing the company needs to determine and clearly communicate to the customers what the closing times are. At minimum, I'd recommend taking down any signage with conflicting or misleading information. I was one of many confused and frustrated customers to show up and be turned away through the glass door.

On this most recent trip to the MD Burbs for a Yelp event, I was delighted to find Three Little Birds just a few miles from my hotel. So I stopped in during my lunch break on a mission to find just the right fabric for a wedding quilt I'm sewing for a dear family member. This shop is really, really cute! They carry mostly modern fabrics, plus a ton of knitting/crocheting supplies. In the back is a classroom area, and they have lots of project samples, notions, and one of the best selection of sewing books I've seen. The best news is: I found the perfect fabric for the wedding quilt! And I had just enough space in my suitcase to get it home and start cutting. Highly recommend this little shop if you're in the area and on a hunt for some new fabric!

Everyone wears a name tag (as someone who is not good with names, I LOVE this!). At the beginning of class everyone does an introduction. Everyone was so friendly and it was a very nice community. The area is cute and there are restaurants nearby to grab a bite to reward yourself. The instructor was very kind and patient with the students! Add to it calendar immediately after you receive confirmation for the class because the time doesn't show up in your email confirmation. There's plenty of parking nearby. Most parking allows for up to 3 hours (max). I recommend checking out the shop. They also still fabrics and other items. Don't judge my finished product too harshly

I took a beginners class here - it had plenty of street parking around the shop, convenient hours…read more(class was from 6pm-8pm), a small class size (8 for sewing machine basics), and an informed staff. The instructor (Valerie, I believe) was very detailed in her instructions that included threading a machine, debugging, ironing, sewing different stitches and lengths, assembling and dissembling the machine, and making a mini pillow. After she demoed different steps, she would have us try and wandered the room quickly correcting us if something wasn't quite right. We also had to repeat each action twice to develop the muscle memory. There are classes available for all things a beginning sewer needs to know up to how to make your own bodice at advance levels. The store has patterns, fabric, and take-home kits. If you cannot make a scheduled workshop, you can do the lesson over private instruction. I had followed YouTube instructions before and done lots of searches trying to figure out how to sew with limited success. This class multiplied my knowledge by 1000 and helped me identify what I was doing wrong on my own so I could course correct. If you're interested in learning to sew, this is your place!
