Market Street Grocery is located right in Market Square around the corner from the Simple Greek. I used to visit the wine bar in the back often before the pandemic. They served Collefrisio wines and had great cheese plates. My friends and I would go for their happy hour for half priced glasses of Riserva wine. It was a very laid back atmosphere. I don't think the wine bar has reopened, but I visited recently for a coffee. De Fer Coffee & Tea is now the coffee provider inside the grocery store. I guess I haven't been there for a while, because there were a lot of changes! The macaron stand isn't there any more, and they have seats instead. I was so glad that I took my laptop with me, because once I saw the seats I decided to stay and work. While sipping on my oat milk latte, I watched all the Downtown work people come and go ordering custom sandwiches and hot foods for lunch. They have a good selection of food and the prices are reasonable. I remember one time ordering salmon, veggies, and something else and it was only about $10-$12. They served it to you on a plate, and I ate it in the wine bar. I didn't eat anything on this most recent trip, but I enjoyed my latte from De Fer. I'm glad to know they have seats now because I definitely plan to eat/work there more often. They also have a restroom downstairs that is kept clean. read more

I came here after work for a get-together with co-workers, and I was impressed! At the back of this little grocery store is a wine bar! Who would have thunk it? The wine selection is extensive. I was meeting a friend for lunch and he suggested Market St Grocery. I've run in here before for quick groceries but never more than that. Market St Grocery is a small space, but it is utilized well! There's a De Fer Coffee shop in there, they also have a nice selection of produce and non- perishable items, and they also have a hot and cold bar selection of food for breakfast and lunch. I got a Caesar salad and added grilled chicken and my friend got tuna salad. My chicken salad was so good; I was pleasantly surprised. It's a little on the pricier end but it's filling, fresh and healthy. 8.99$ includes a side. I also like their soups a lot. On weekends I love getting their breakfast burritos. It was our first time visiting this little grocery store in Market Square. I've heard great things about it so we stopped in during Shopopoly since they were a participating vendor. We walked in and walked around, looking at the products they had to offer. We were the only ones in the store and the woman working never greeted us or even talked to us while we were walking around. So unique....you can eat and drink wine same location but two different vibes! When you enter you are greeted by the deli side. The atmosphere is bright and upbeat. Immaculately designed and fresh....various menu options to choose from. You will be greeted by friendly staff that welcome you upon entering. Went to the ski lodge last week for lunch and the food and service were amazing. I had the cheesesteak and my hubby had the pulled pork and both items were delicious! The bartender was really nice and helpful as well. We loved the fire pits and fact that we didn't have to go inside at all to get anything. Went to the ski lodge on the side walk outside market street(previously the lemonade stand during the summer) for my birthday. They just updated with tables with fires in the middle to make outdoor seating possible. I didn't get cold the whole even though it was below freezing. There were great views of downtown and the Christmas tree from our table. They had a handful of hot cocktails and an abbreviated food menu (a couple sandwiches and apps). It wasn't that busy (we got a table right away and it was a Saturday night. The bartender was very nice and attentive. This review is strictly for the wine bar that I checked out last night that is located in the store. This is a cool and cozy spot to grab a glass of wine with a friend, solo, or on a date. The bartender was a nice guy and the wines were good. Bear in mind, they only serve Italian wines here. My gf and I also got a meat and cheese board which was divine. The Smoked Cheddar, Sopresseta, and Salami were amazing and the board also included bread, gluten free crackers, nuts, and jam. The day I came here was really my last day for Breakfast stops. I came here thinking oh I'll probably just get some bagel or quick light sandwich and on my way, nope, different experience. I walk in, I didn't notice that I was also a small grocery store. Was greeted by a friendly guy who was doing everything, I grab myself a Cuban sandwich toasted. This is really a gem in the downtown area. Market Street Grocery is a wonderful addition for downtown residents and workers alike. It's a charming little space with lots packed in it. I come here somewhat regularly for lunch. There's always a great selection of hot foods including soups to choose from. And the prices are very reasonable, definitely cheaper than going to Blue Bird Kitchen. My favorite spot is the wine bar. It's a great casual space to hang out alone or with others. The staff is nice and very knowledgeable. They have happy hour from 5-7pm everyday. I've tried a couple of the little bites and they're pretty good. Walking up to Market Street Grocery can briefly transport you another place. The grand structure with big windows sits on a small side street off of bustling Market Square. In the summer, bright blue tables and chairs line the sidewalk. This afternoon the scene struck me as very French! That vibe continues on the inside with a La Colombe coffee bar and Gaby et Jules macaron counter. You can build a great lunch from the cold food case, which is priced by weight. I don't purchase many of their specialty grocery items, but it's nice to swing by Market Street Grocery on my lunch break if I ever need to pick up an ingredient for dinner. This is what I'd call a hybrid review because I'm reviewing the grocery as a whole and at the same time reviewing Gaby St Jules one of their vendors. I had a lunch date so I had to return here to get a look at the whole place. They have a deli area where I got to sample a piece of pastrami. I learned that this is part of the grocery and they cure their own meats here.They also have a hot prepared foods area where you can buy your lunch and take it with you. In the back their is a wine bar which is definitely on my return to do list. It stocks a vast array of wines and looks cozy and inviting. They are plenty of dry goods for shopping as well. Gaby St Jules is in the entrance immediately on your left. It is a stand alone pop up store of the main one located in Squirrel Hill. They have a very limited selection here of their main shop but I was told that if I call that store with something I want in particular then they would have it sent to me. Here they had an assortment of macaroons, French bread loaves, and 3 large pastries. One is an almond croissant, another was a French bread and the third was a regular croissant. These averaged about $3.00 for a nice size dessert. The macaroons sell for $2.20 each and I was told to refrigerate as soon as possible to avoid them getting hard. I purchased their almond macaroon along with a few sugarplum ones. I wasn't too crazy about the almond macaroon but did enjoy the sugarplum. They had a small dessert called canele which was reasonably priced. The crust was caramelized while the inside consisted of rum and vanilla for flavoring. I bought it since it was small but wasn't over-thrilled with it. If I were rating Gaby alone I would only give it 3 stars because I have tasted better macaroons and pastry elsewhere. However, the market as a whole is well laid out and makes a great opportunity for a grab and go or just if you need something to take home with you. It is located on Market Square next to a camera shop as you head towards Fifth Ave. I definitely plan to return here to check out the wine bar and its offerings. read more

My favorite place that I've never even been to. I just got my 3rd Market to Table box delivered to my house. Its got 4 servings of 3 meals (some are kits, some are heat and eat) plus fixings for breakfast, lunch and snacks. I've also gotten a charcuterie kit and thanksgiving sandwich kit from them in the past. Everything I've had so far has been delicious. I love not having to meal plan and shop and it's not junk food, its freshly prepared, natural and whole foods. They are super easy to communicate with and have always gone above and beyond including at times bonus goodies or making a second delivery when an item got missed. Market Street Grocery has been a much-needed addition to downtown. For those of us that live in the city and work downtown, it's ideal for grabbing groceries daily, as opposed to massive weekly trips to the larger grocery stores. If there's one issue, it's the lack of inventory consistency throughout the day. The shop isn't very large, so I understand needing to rotate based on shopper behavior throughout the day, BUT not having meat or fish at the end of the workday when we're stopping in to grab something to take home for dinner is frustrating. They're still working on figuring out what/when to stock various items, but this has been the only real issue we've experienced thus far. Overall, though, the inventory is excellent for a small grocer. They've managed to stock some random, hard-to-find things (ex. Spanish Sherry Vinegar), and also have whole bean coffee/espresso options from La Colombe, which is great to see! The produce, cheese selection, and warm foods options are great, considering the limited space, as well. Having Gaby et Jules within the store is also perfect for grabbing a daily baguette (or croissant...or macaron), and the café portion of the store makes some good, simple drinks. The staff is awesome. Helpful and really a pleasure to deal with, and the prices are more than fair...especially when you factor in the convenience of being able to avoid the larger chaotic stores after work. If Market Street Grocery can find a way to keep meats and seafood stocked in the late afternoon/early evening for those of us leaving work and trying to finalize our at-home dinner menu, they'll easily get 5 stars from me. This place is long overdue. Working downtown and living nearby, we have long complained about our lack of options between here and home. By the time we leave, most Strip grocers are closed, and that other market that is open in the Strip just doesn't seem fairly priced or offer much in terms of a selection. I've only gone to Market St Grocery for lunch so while I can't speak of it as an actual grocery, Market St Grocery (MSG) is a great lunch option especially if you're undecided on what you're looking for. MSG has a somewhat New York City grocer/deli feel to it as it has just about anything you're could be looking for and has a soup/deli station, a cold food station (all of which can be heated there for you) and a hot foods station. The deli area has set sandwiches and you can also create your own they have soups which rotate on a daily basis. The cold foods always feature some kind of chicken, another protein option (usually a beef), various salads, macaroni salads, and other sides. The hot foods section generally always includes a potato, a chicken/pork/beef option, a salmon of the day, an another side. Anything that comes in a gravy is awesome and the days they have turkey and potatoes are special and should be cherished. I generally go with a salmon option as the salmon is always crusted perfectly and never has a fishy taste which is always a phobia of mine, especially at lunch. There is also a bakery display, coffee station, and an area to get homemade macrons. So yeah you can't go wrong here. There is limited seating in the front and back and you can sit at the small wine bar in the back of the store. read more

I was so confused by this place when I first walked in. I was hoping to buy an avocado and some milk. They have milk, but not by the gallon. It was super crowded and I felt irritated by how complicated everything seemed. Now that I work even closer to this establishment, I have figured some things out. And now I'm going there 3 times or more a week for lunch. Not a morning person so I will probably never make it for breakfast but I guess they really shine during that meal. So here's what I do. Because I'm trying to reduce a little and because I'm a post-op lap band patient, I can only eat small meals. It grosses me out when I get served a huge meal that's not that good, that's expensive and that isn't even worth reheating. If it wasn't that great when it was fresh, even the mighties toaster oven is not going to make it better, right? But there is a hot food case in this place! So every day you can go in and there will be three choices. What I've had so far: Thanksgiving-worthy turkey and gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, roast beef, dill roasted potato quarters, fish and chips and some Chinese. Wasn't crazy about the Chinese but everyone else loves it so give it a try. Everyday a new incredible meal. And they do it BY WEIGHT. So you can literally stand there and say I want half a handful of chips and one piece of fish and then you're only paying maybe $7 for a drink and your meal. It's magical. And it's all made there in the shop and it's better than most restaurant in Market Square and elsewhere. I'm not crazy about Macaroons but there is a Gaby's inside and it's great for quickie gifts. They have beautiful looking chocolates and jams too. But what I discovered just this week is how freaking amazing their coffee is. I had the best mocha of my life there and I will be back. I was really sad at what a crap coffee town Pittsburgh is. With similar cloudy weather like the Pacific Northwest and the endless winters I thought "these people are going to have great coffee." Not so. Even the Italian population can't seem to get the job done. So now I finally have a place besides Starbucks to get my suicide inhibitor. A couple of things I think they can improve on: - Have more than one trash can by the coffee stand to throw away your trash. - Even though the city makes it hard, they could try to do better on recycling. But they are using brown boxes so yay on them. - Make sure your cutlery and napkins are well stocked. They're always out of something. - Offer more drinks. There seems like there's a lot of refrigerator real estate that they aren't using. I don't think they have to offer say a Coke fountain, but more bottle drinks that are off the beaten track would be great. And if you decide to go, really walk around and study the place. Be patient with how crowded it can get. It's popular but small. You can take your lunch into the wine bar that's in the back and eat in there if the front table is full. There really is more in there than you think. And the people have been good to great. Now that they see me so much I get treated like a local and that's so nice. And hey! The second time I've run across a high-end micro-convenience grocery deli sort of place in a downtown during business travel in the last few months, so this is clearly a trend. The food here is a bit expensive, but not out of line given the location (the 7-11 a block away also has overpriced food that's a lot more disgusting). I would wish for a few more fresh ingredients but for what it is - processed options, fresh sandwiches, and the wine bar (which I did not get a chance to try) - is very cute and, um, cozy. (Small.) Their prices can be a little high for fresh fruit and hot food though. I wish this market offered more vegetarian options. OK, we wondered thru the Grocery, which looked nice and had some interesting items, to get to the Market Street Wine Shop and Wine Bar. The Wine Bar probably should have its own listing on Yelp. The wine bar carries Collefrisio wines from Italy. You can order a glass, a bottle, a flight, or take a bottle home with you. Unfortunately not all wines or cheeses were available. We selected two different reds to try and compare. Both were a dark ruby red with some fruity scent one had a more cherry jam flavor and the other more of a black cherry and mulberry flavor and were pretty well balanced. We decided to try some cheese and meat options/charcuterie with our wine. As mentioned previously, they were out of one of the cheeses and one of the meat options. We had a Jasper Hill cheddar cheese that was very good and a goat cheese that went well with the wines. The soppressata was good but cut very thin, just a tad to thin. It came with some slices of bread and mustard. The waitstaff was very nice and helpful but the service was a bit disjointed. It was a full house and a small place with only about 12 seats. We did learn that you should go during Happy Hour because a couple of the wines are reduced to a more realistic price. Again, following a local trend, the pricing was a bit high! So go for Happy Hour! There is separate entrance off of Graeme St. when the Market closes. read more

Went with a friend for brunch. We arrived just as the Wine Room was opening. Based on the on-line menu, I was looking forward to trying the Chicken and Waffles. Although I was the fourth person overall to order this morning, they were out of Chicken and Waffles*...so, I ordered my second choice, Eggs Benny. The menu described it as a biscuit topped with corned beef, an egg, Guinness and cheddar cheese sauce with some shaved potatoes on top. What I got was not what I expected. It was served barely warm and the sauce had already begun to skin over, there was no corned beef...instead it was roast beef...and the amount of shaved potatoes would not have equalled a thin slice of a teeny, tiny baby potato. The Guinness and cheddar sauce was brown, cold and bitter. When the meal was delivered, we were asked if we wanted salt and pepper to which my friend and I just gave a blank stare as neither of us had even tried a bite. It wouldn't have mattered if we did as they didn't know where the shakers were. The only reason I gave it two stars is because of the ambience of the Wine Room. I doubt, however, that I will ever be back as there are so many other, much better, places to have brunch. * I just want to make this perfectly clear, I was the first person today to order the first thing on their menu and THEY WERE OUT!! Where to begin? 1. They have a dedicated counter for Gaby et Jules patisseries. Fresh macarons and pastries within reach! 2. A great selection of fresh food: fruit, meats, sides, seafood, etc. It all looked really good, really fresh, and reasonably priced considering the location. Surprisingly reasonable, actually. 3. Higher-end options, including hard to find organics and locally-sourced milk, yogurt, butter, etc. It's nice to know that I can venture out on my lunch break and pick up something healthy. It's also nice to know I can stop here before I leave for the day if I need an entire meal or just a single ingredient. They sell some craft beer six packs and wine too. I've visited the grocery store a few times and I was pleased with the quality of the products. My favorites are their crab cakes and coffee. I've been wanting to visit their wine bar for a while and finally got the chance to do so. Again great quality products, but the experience was very poor. I was really disappointed. I'm sitting at the bar and there is another person eating, drinking, having a good time. Next thing I know...he is behind the bar working!! :D He continued drinking and it became apparent that he was drunk. The other employees were friendly but not very educated on what was available. The wines here are Italian...yet every time they compared them to French wines. They would benefit from training. Additionally, they were not clear with my friends about the wine tasting samples when they said they had never visited before. "I can give you samples of whatever you want!" Oh, but she failed to mention it's a $2 charge per sample which they didn't even let my friend finish! The constant staring from them was also a nice touch. While the grocery store is nice, I would not recommend the wine bar. read more

This review is for the coffee bar, the only thing I tried. They have La Colombe (yay!) which is great. The line moved slowly, the coffee was great. I was there mid-morning and I'd be a little hesitant to try to hit this during the lunch hour. read more
