We have had the pleasure of visiting this place on several occasions and have found it to be the best in the area. Having lived for decades in food mecca, San Francisco, combined with my husband's time in Marbella, we are spoiled when it comes to Spanish food and wines. One of the great things about this spot is that you can come for just drinks, just appetizers or a whole multi course meal experience. It is great solo, date night or a fun night out with friends. The staff is friendly and informative. They are great at making suggestions for pairings and also just general suggestions if you are having decision paralysis because there are so many tasty options. I've come just for drinks and apps and also for a full meal. Everything was tasty and there wasn't anything I ordered that I was disappointed with. We sat outside under the shade of trees on a sunny warm Sunday afternoon in May for brunch. Our waitress educated us that the larger entrees can take a hour to make from scratch. We decided instead to order 3 tapas each to share as a table. They seemed to come out randomly. We were slow to finish plates so the table became very full. Luckily, I found a parking garage on Liberty around the corner, but there was a little bit of a distance to walk. Inside, the restaurant is beautifully decorated. The bar is large and gorgeous, and the dining areas are lively and open. The restaurant was accommodating with our large group, which was an added commendation! Because this restaurant is known for its tapas and small plates, my group just ordered a bunch of different things to try. Here's what I tried: [Olive Oil Pancakes]: These were so delicious. They were light and fluffy and perfectly paired with the cinnamon butter! [Shrimp]: This was good but nothing special! [Whipped Ricotta]: This was smooth and creamy and paired well with the truffle hot honey. I loved the dipping chips. It was just an overall great dish. 3.5 stars (neglectful service and good foods). Barcelona Wine Bar is a restaurant chain that has locations in about a dozen states and serves Spanish foods and drinks. My husband and I ate dinner at their Pittsburgh restaurant one time. A seating hostess seated us on time, but then I received an email that she had "canceled" my reservation. We were already seated, so our servers served us. Our servers' pace was good initially, but then they forgot to bring one of our tapas, and they made us wait extremely long times to order dessert (which we did through the manager!) and to receive the bill. The service was so slow that my husband and I did not spend our entire gift card, and we instead told the waitress to give the balance to another table of customers. My husband said, "Some of the worst service that we've had in a long time." They wasted our time and money, so we will never be customers here ever again. The menu listed charcuterie, tapas (e.g., burrata and croquetas), salads, large plates (e.g., branzino and parrillada), desserts (e.g., flan and olive-oil cake), wines, cocktails, beers, etcetera. My husband and I have eaten authentic Spanish foods in Barcelona and in other Spanish cities. In comparison, we overall give the foods at Barcelona Wine Bar a "B" grade. Here are my individual ratings: Aperitivo Board - 4.2 stars - This appetizer consisted of Serrano ham (4.5 stars), fuet sausage (4 stars), two cheeses (manchego and mahon, 4 stars), patatas bravas (potatoes with a spicy red sauce, 4.5 stars), almonds (4 stars), and pickled vegetables (4 stars). Albondigas - 5 stars - This tapa was meatballs in a ham-tomato sauce. They were probably my favorite food here. Spiced beef empanadas - 4.5 stars - These empanadas had a nice crust, were filled with a good amount of beef, and had a slightly spicy red pepper sauce. Bacon-wrapped dates - 4 stars - The server did not bring these out, so we had to ask for them. My husband liked the dates, and I thought that they tasted OK. Honestly I don't get the hype here. Wait time was long, but that's expected for a Friday night I suppose. The wine by the bottle prices are a ripoff, or at least the one red wine we got was. I was in town visiting and found this spot on Yelp the other day and decided to check it out. I sat at the bar and had the most amazing bartenders. They immediately came over to assist me. I was asked did I have any allergies and then they recommended food that I could eat from the menu?. She took the menu and marked it up to show me what I could eat. I ordered the veggie paella ( $18 for half size) and the mini chamomile Cosmo ( $7 on happy hour). After eating I chatted with a few people at the bar and we all did Porr'on shots with a little convincing from me lol ;). We had a wonderful experience at dinner yesterday at Barcelona Wine Bar! First off, our service was impeccable. Everyone we interacted with was so kind and had great recommendations. Our server, Sarah, was the absolute best and we loved her!! The inside is large with a big bar and quite a few tables. We ordered a few small plates to share and we enjoyed it all! I particularly loved the flavorful spiced beef empanadas and you can never go wrong with their patatas bravas. The real star of the show for me was the branzino - the skin was crispy and the whole dish was perfectly seasoned and bonus, they fillet your fish for you! We ended the meal with some sweet treats and I adored our warm and fluffy olive oil cake. I will note, as someone who spent two weeks in Spain last year, if you're expecting true Spanish style tapas you will be disappointed (you will also be disappointed by the price of wine in America versus the price of wine in Spain). Traveling through town, I was craving one of my favorite cuisines--Spanish food--and decided to give this place a try. It was a beautiful evening, so I chose to dine outside. Unfortunately, the downtown foot traffic made for a less relaxing experience, as I was interrupted multiple times during dinner by panhandlers passing through the area. I started with a red sangria, which was excellent once it arrived. The drink was flavorful and well-balanced, but the wait was surprisingly long, likely due to the restaurant being short-staffed. For an appetizer, I ordered the hummus with piquillo peppers. It was decent, though I found it a bit oversalted and heavier on the garlic than I prefer. The biggest disappointment was the Paella Mariscos, which was the dish I was most looking forward to. Rather than a traditional seafood paella where the rice is cooked with the seafood and stock, it appeared that the rice had been prepared separately and then topped with mussels, clams, octopus, and shrimp. The rice itself was overcooked, which further detracted from the dish. To the kitchen's credit, the shrimp and octopus were well prepared and flavorful. However, the mussels and clams lacked seasoning and contributed little flavor to the overall dish. In the end, the meal came to about $80 including tip, and the experience simply didn't justify the cost. Aside from the excellent sangria, the food fell well short of expectations. My only gripe is that there's no clear rule on when you need to give a credit card to start a tab--sometimes you do, sometimes you don't--when ordering dinner. I enjoyed the Alebrijes with Mezcal and salted honey, but the Bourbon Spice Rack with the maple syrup and cardamom and lavender bitters was much complex and tastier in my opinion. For desserts: The basque burnt cheesecake was okay, and the cocolate cake was nothing to write home about, but the flan Catalan was very good.
