Admittedly, I don't shop here as often as I should/could. The fruits and veggies are well stocked but the stand outs here are the bakery and meat counter. There are a wide variety of spices.The selections of many different Latin cuisines make this a great shop for groceries that are hard to find consistently at most carnecerias, and certainly other supermarkets in the area. The service is normally pretty good. There is a nice big parking lot. Their ads have some really aggressive deals on some items. read more

When I am in the mood to cook up some mexican cuisine I come here to get the best ingredients. If it is in stock here, then I know it is legit. The produce section is always well stocked and organized. Everything I have purchsed is fresh and looks great. My favorite thing to browse is the wall of dried peppers. I ahve been able to use many of them to make up some incredible salsas and birria! The middle of the store has some of the typical offerings, but tailored to the cuture of the Spanish speaking community. The deli has a lot of fresh meats and even some pre marinated offerings, I am lookng forward to trying some of those. read more

I haven't been to this grocery store in a while but I decided to stop by there today. I browsed through their fruit and vegetable area and got some bananas. Then I went to the meat section and browsed around there for a while. They had different meats and sausages but I wasn't sure what to get. I ended up getting some marinated taco meat and a pound of shrimp ceviche. I looked through their bakery isle. Their baked goods looked good but I didn't get anything from there. When I got home I tried the shrimp ceviche with tortilla chips. Oh man it was good. I couldn't stop eating it. I thought to myself, I should've got two pounds of the ceviche. I'll try the crab ceviche next time as well. The store was stocked and well organized. The self checkout was easy. There are a lot of other things I want to try in there. I'll get some flan and these apple turnovers I saw there. I think they were apple turnovers. Not sure what they were but they looked good. I enjoy shopping at the store, especially for the fresh vegetables and the meat butcher shop. The only complaint I have about the Meat butcher shop is when you purchase meat or poultry is that they put it in a plastic bag. I feel that it's unsanitary to put it in a plastic bag. I wish that they would wrap it in paper like the other grocery stores that have butcher shops. But they do have great prices at this store. read more

This store is really big on the inside. I came here for ginger and lemons. I usually don't go here because it's not close to me. But I happened to be in downtown Reno. So it was the closest grocery store to the area I was in at the time. I have heard of this grocery store from many people but this was my first time checking it out. They have a really good produce section. Their prices are reasonable. It was clean and organized inside. The parking lot is small so it can get pretty crowded. My cashier spoke both English and Spanish. I'm practicing my Spanish. They have a section in the front that sells different household items like pots, electric kettles, and hot plates and more. There is a bake goods section and a meat section too. Some smaller items like honey or cake mix they do have but not as many options of brands like a bigger store like Walmart. But this store is a must try. I was not disappointed. I will come back soon. Glad I was able to check them out. read more

Review of Coco Express, located at the prepared foods counter! I've always loved Marketon, and the store seems to keep getting better. During COVID I discovered they have a new concessionaire in the prepared foods kitchen serving up Reno's ONLY CUBAN FOOD! Now as a Miamian born and raised, this is a cuisine near and dear to my heart, and while it is not the very best I've had, it can absolutely cure some homesickness in heartbeat! The main issue is the bread. No one makes Cuban bread here. If you've had Cuban bread, you know. If not, there's nothing like it and you can't convince me otherwise. That said, their Lechon (roasted pork) has great signature Cuban flavor, but it's obvious they're using a shoulder and not roasting a whole pig for this classic dish. The croquettas were pretty disappointing. Small and with an off flavor from the oil they were fried in. I found the same in the empanadas, but the filling was on point and I wasn't upset about it. Plantains were average, but those really need to be fresh to be great. All in all, this little menu ain't bad. I'd give it a go again, just skip the sandwich because the bread just isn't there. read more

I thought I'd left a review years ago but apparently not. I started going here back when I first moved to Reno 10 years ago. It reminded me of "La Marketa" back in Spanish Harlem in NYC. There are so many items not available in other supermarkets that are available here. The store is clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. I have no complaints with the produce department. I can't help but wonder if the negative feedback has more to do with the attitude of the customers than with the staff. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because some of the prices are too high. read more

Disappointed as bought a jicama at .79/ lb and girl charged me double ( I weighed it on produce scale b4 choosing) on her checkout scale. Anyway, no biggee I though until I got it home and sliced it. Rotten all the way thru; brown as dirt. Useless. Waste of money and that store is not cheap to begin with. read more

He not only stopped what he was doing to help me but also came with me so I wouldn't get lost and gave me his recommendations on different brands and why plus he showed me what was on sale! Ay, caramba! What took me so long? How come I have not been to this market before? I have seen it multiple times while driving around town and I finally popped a Saturday afternoon. I did not need to shop for groceries, I just stopped by to check it out. The Spanish speaking staff, the music blasting off the speakers, the aroma of Mexican food and the colorful sights of pan dulce made me feel right at home. It felt like fiesta and it was not even a holiday. I went straight to the produce and filled my basket with a ripe papaya, pineapple, cantaloupe, bananas, and avocados. They were colorful, aromatic, ripe, screaming to be eaten. I wandered around the aisles, happy to see childhood favorites of mine, such as Gansitos, various snacks and Mexican candy, as well as my beloved hibiscus flowers, Valentina hot sauce and Tajin chili powder. Marketon carries a wide variety of Mexican and Latin ingredients at very reasonable prices. The meat counter looked interesting. I will have to go back and get some chorizo and pastor. The bakery was tempting too. The staff was friendly and attentive, happy to chat and point me to what I was looking for, as well as highlighting new arrivals and helping to pick the best produce. Yes, it was a little loud and crowded for American standards but I do not mind. In my opinion, that's part of what makes ethnic markets so appealing. It is like going on a quick trip. read more

Marketon es bueno. Three years of Spanish classes, and that about sums up my retention. Wait...Marketon es MUY bueno!!! If you'd like to take care of grocery shopping and cultural enrichment as well, what better place than Marketon? There's a huge selection of Mexican specialties. There's fresh masa--plain and fruit flavored (pineapple, I think). If you have a sweet tooth, there are Mexican sweet breads galore! Stock up on cooking supplies, such as tortillas, cactus paddles and mole. Better yet, to heck with cooking! Go directly to the deli and enjoy the bounty...chimichangas, chile rellenos, rice, fried pork things and albondigas (meatballs...the other word I remember from Spanish class). Just thirsty? Be aware of the cashier Sofia Reyes. She weigh things with her hands on it and put pressure on it depends on what you are buying. She make my fruit from 1.99 lbs become 3.18 lbs. If you noticed and ask for weight it again, she will be mad at you and keep speak Spanish dirty words to her manager say it's your fault. And her manager only believes her and even don't bother to ask what's going on. The manager's code is 1104, when she found out it actually is 1.99 lbs she canceled item immediately and bring the fruit bag run away. Leave Sofia there keep saying dirty words. What a cool discovery!! While visiting Reno, and hanging with a few of my Reno friends, we ran into Marketon looking for one thing, and I discovered so much more. The fresh meat section is beyond the wow factor. They offer a variety of so many cuts of meat, and the prices are so reasonable. I love that this is a large grocery store that offers everything ethnic. The pastries, the salsas, the produce, and the unique drinks...muy excellente! You will also find very unique items, like chicken feet, fish that is non regional, and very unique produce items. All ready to be made into some fabulous epicurean delight. The store is fully staffed, and despite that not everyone speaks English, they are all willing to help, or to find someone who speaks english. The large selection, unique items, make this a must stop if you live nearby, or simply visiting the greater Reno area. read more

A friend of mine raved about this store and I had forgotten that til recently. I was on a mission to find some Peruvian ingredients for a dish I wanted to make. For whatever reason, I tried like 3 other places first. I was beginning to get discouraged when I remembered that Marketon existed. Sure enough, they had exactly what I needed! After finding what I was looking for, we decided just to cruise up and down the aisles to see what else they had. They have a LOT of stuff in this store, but it still manages not to feel crowded or overwhelming. It's also VERY clean. But the best part???? THE SMELL. Oh my goodness. I am sad that we are lunch before we went because the food they had in the hot service deli looked and smelled divine. Looking forward to trying it on my next trip! read more

So keep in mind this review of a Hispanic store is from an average white guy. Having said that, it is the largest one of its kind here, so that in itself is pretty cool. Lots of stuff you would expect, plus just enough Caucasian things to make you feel comfortable. The meat department is quite extensive, but does have some stuff you may not be familiar with. Chicken feet prominently and proudly on display. A great selection of Mexican pastries and an even greater little spot for authentic pre made food. It smells great and although I have not had everything, what I have had has been yummy. Whenever I am in the area, I usually make a point to stop in just to grab a bite or just drool over the food. They also have some good specials on meat, veggies and alcohol, so check the ads if you need anything. read more

I really like this market with the exception of a few key setbacks. You can check in but it's super hard to check out. There is literally no room for both a person and your cart. So how to load groceries into the conveyor belt? It requires a lot of twisting, reaching and irritation. Not a cool check out at all! Some of their produce (herbs) were water logged. And we all know what happens to greens when they soak too long. Ewww. Slime. Upside. Fabulous prices. $2.00 pineapples. And, for the most part, the produce was lovely. Terrific butcher with serious selection of meets. Their ready made deli area has an unusual variety of dishes. I purchased the shrimp civeche and fish civeche and they were both fresh and flavorful. Pretty good shopping. Just be careful of that awkward check out. read more

I absolutely love supporting this great little hispanic store nesstled in the heart of Reno's Midtown (on Wells Ave). Prices are very reasonable on most of their items (especially on their meat) and their bakery items are so good! On a busy day, their parking can be a bit of a challenge; even with having a large parking lot but there is always street parking if you can't find one...a busy parking is always a great indicator! Be sure to grab a cart before you enter the store because there aren't any inside. The store itself is really clean other than the piles of overstock situated throughout the store. Most of time they are near the checkout stands but getting around can be tricky sometimes and it can be a little inconvenient. Just a suggestion, take care of stocking the shelves in the evenings after you close or early in the morning before opening that way they are not in the customers way. One last thing and most important...the staff members are always very friendly and helpful which makes it that much more enjoyable coming here to give this small community store our business. read more

Every two weeks you may get a mailer (anywhere near Wells Avenue) for great sale items- from fresh fruit, veggies to tortas and Mexican specialty lunches! All lunches come with a drink. Choose the horchata. Rice drink with cinnamon is killer good. Planning a BBQ? There are all kinds of marinated meats ready for the grill. I really like this store, most of the time all the produce looks and taste pretty fresh. This is the only place in town where I have been able to find items from my home country, I'm super grateful that we have a store like this in town. Otherwise, I'd probably have to drive to California. Their prices aren't bad either, I only come here to buy items I cannot find anywhere else. But their meat department has a lot of stuff, the chicken is pretty cheap. They also have a deli, where they offer combination plates that are inexpensive and pretty tasty. I've been coming to this market for years and I don't foresee that changing anytime soon. read more

Produce was not fresh. Greens were wilted. The avocados were so soft, my thumb left an imprint. I went to weigh some tomatoes and another customer told me that the produce scales were not accurate and I would be charged for more when the cashiers weighed them. I went to the meat department to buy carnitas, but the meat looked gray, not fresh at all. I waited to speak with the clerks behind the counter, but they ignored me and kept talking to each other. I finally left without buying anything at all. I won't go back. Food didn't look fresh and customer service was nonexistent. This was the store in Reno. read more

Let me preface this by saying I work and live right around the corner, frequently popping in. I've been quite a bit and always had at least pleasant experiences. Just got home from a recent trip and am really surprised at their customer service level. Got to the checkout, all going well, gave the cashier the monies. She gave me back incorrect change, which I politely pointed out. She said she was sorry, she didn't look at the money and she'd need to check the security camera. Inconvenient, but sure. She returns and says the manager is too busy and to come back at 9p and then proceeded to cashier for the next customer. After several attempts to get the manager to come out, nothing happened. So, I asked other employees, before our cashier handed me the correct change. I'm not sure what store has a policy to just tell a customer to come back in several hours, without even attempting to get any contact information. The management should be ashamed. I feel bad for the cashier, as she was quite nice, but really poor way to handle this situation. Will contact corporate. read more

The meat dept did not acknowledge me or ask if I needed help. Not the same. Will not be coming back. At the self check out the gal was helpful when the register decided not to work properly. 99% or worker there doesn't speak ANY ENGLISH! They couldn't understand when i asked for 2lbs of meat or what is in side their burritos. Then they spoke in spanish and charged me a different price then what the sign says, but it worked out great since i got it for a cheaper price. Due to my genetic inability to look away from pork products, I always stare like a helpless kitten at the mound of deep-fried pork products that tug at my cholesterol-wary heart strings.
