I like Toro de Oro because I can order food plus get some yummy add ons. I love the carnitas, full of flavor and not dry. I buy fresh avocados and corn tortillas and make guacamole for the tacos. I also have bought carne asada burritos which are delicious, bursting of flavor. I add on fresh salsa that comes with the burrito, it is an explosion of happiness in my mouth. So, if you need some fresh veggies or need a little groceries, why not "kill two birds with one stone?" read more

Do not recommend purchasing from their cooked food area, the wait times are horrible. They do not go in order from when the orders are received therefore creating extreme wait times for people even for simple orders such as two tacos. Needs a better process. read more

Love the market but the prices are high! The bakery seems to have dropped off a bit, quality & selection are really hot or miss. The last time I came to the hot case for food items, I was shocked that a male employee literally PUSHED in front of the female employee that was helping me to grab the last few decent chicharróns carnudos that she was *obviously* getting for me. Bagged them for someone else while making eye contact with me. Like some petty brother and sister shit. Who pushes in front of another employee? I ordered 3 tacos from the food counter and the tripas were GROSS. Inedible. Tasted like liver so I know that means they were dirty caca. Straight to the garbage can. read more

The meat tastes great no matter what choice you make for your tacos! The fish tacos they serve here are awesome as well, they taste like what you'd expect at a sit down restaurant not a market. Based solely on the food: Possibly some of the best tacos in town. The carne asada and lengua tacos are my absolute favorite. Carne asada is sooooo flavorful and they love to pack the tacos with lots of meat. Their salsas are delicious, green being less spicy than the red salsa. Also they offer grilled peppers and onions!! This was my second visit to this store. It's way better than Marketon. This store was clean and well organized. Good selection of stuff. They have a nice deli that I tried today. The staff there were very friendly and the service was fast. I ordered an asada burrito to go from the deli. For a deli place, this burrito was better than a lot of burritos from Mexican restaurants. The meat had a good sear flavor to it. It was filled with rice, beans and pico de gallo. It was a good size burrito too. I got a cannoli from their baked goods section. It was sweet and flaky. Yummy. They had so many other pastries in their case. I'll try another pastry on my next visit. They had a nice meat section. I got some asada taco meat. Very disappointed. We paid $82.43 for tamales and chicharrons. The tamales were mostly masa. No flavor at all. The chicharrons were so hard that I had to throw them out. For that price I expected at least edible food. Definitely will never go back and will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

7/10/2024- I was in the area heading back, and impulsively stopped in... Lucky because both my boys enjoy Mexican food.. Even though I wasn't hungry, I didn't want to leave without getting the carne asada tacos.. Also picked up some carnitas and beans.. of course pan dulce.. Tacos were good, but a little hard on the carne asada.. not like before, where it was super tender. My creative oldest, had made these bite size nigiri.. with carnitas.. yes carnitas and Kimchee.. so that is why I needed the meat.. Taste tested the carnitas.. Wow..! full of flavor-! The bakers and the butchers here keep me coming back for more! First off, what an exceptional meat market and butcher shop! This place always impresses me with their selection of beef, pork, chicken and seafood. They have everything you expect to see at great prices and some more unique and off cuts as well. Bonus: If you need something specific, they're happy to make that happen too! My mission was to secure some beef, chicken and pork belly that would marinate and cook quickly, and a dessert to celebrate my birthday with at home. From the meat case I picked up thinly sliced chicken breast (filete) and pork belly which I had sliced a bit thinner to help it cook on the grill. I also got rancherra, aka beef flap meat aka my secret weapon for summertime entertainment, a magical and insanely tender piece of meat that soaks up flavor super fast and is great for any type of grilled preparation. From the bakers I chose a delicious sugar twist, chocolate dipped elephant ear, and a piece of tres leches cake because it was my birthday after all. Everything was delicious as always. So much fun picking out various pastries and cookies from the fresh daily case. On the way out I almost ordered some carnitas, which I think are a weekend special. I love that they offer parts from the whole pig and it's hard to pass up, but wasn't in the cards for this visit. Next time! read more

Service is usually good. This rating is because when I was purchasing tamales earlier last week, I noticed a small little roach on the display case. The worker noticed it, didn't address it by killing it immediately or calling over a supervisor or manager. She just talked with another coworker about something else but became obviously uncomfortable with what we both had just seen. read more

New Taco Tuesday try. We were here based on Yelp recommendations and they didn't let us down. Before the food comments the market was very nice as well though we only bought the chicharrones. Great selection of fresh meats, salsas and dry goods. Very clean. We ordered a couple of asada tacos, birria quesadilla and a replenish. Tacos were good - not out of this world but good. The quesadilla was expensive and not really worth it. Flavor was good but not for the additional price. Telli I was the star of the night, great crust, cheese combo and flavor. Really nice. Toro de Oro Latino Supermarket is worth going to browse and perhaps buy a few items you may know, but have never tried. To be fair to all consumers some items are over priced and may be available in most local supermarkets. We loaded up on the bakery items, .spicy longaniza sausage, Victoria beer (one of my favorites), green enchilada sauce, chicharrones, and dry Morita chiles. They also have a meat section full of Latino meat favorites. This visit, I passed on the taco bar close to the entrance. I am weirded out by breaded fish and shrimp since you can't actually see what you're eating. But I put that all aside for the fish tacos and shrimp tacos at TdO. The service here has been hit or miss the last few handful of visits. Taco cravings were the reason we stopped in and they were just okay. Our tacos weren't hot, but served lukewarm. No chiles or onions were on their tray besides old habaneros. We waited 20 almost 30 minutes for cold food. The other tables dining in were already eating, so I wasn't sure why we were served cold food. I wanted to write these last two trips in as off days, but I'm over it. This is a grocery store/ bakery/ meat market. They have everything, even a small produce section. I come here for lunch sometimes or to buy something that's already cooked, to add to my dinner menu. For example, spanish rice, ceviche, salsa, or guacamole. If I come here for lunch I usually buy some street tacos. They offered agua frescas a couple different types daily, because they change flavors throughout the week. They sell more items on the menu like; burritos and tortas. You can also buy tamales that you can warm up at home. On the market side they sell raw meat, raw fish, dairy and other grocery store items. So far everyone I've encountered there is really nice. They speak English and Spanish. This place is in the same parking lot Ross, so there is plenty of parking onsite available. I like coming here because it's super convenient in my area and some of the items here I haven't found anywhere else nearby. I've made a couple stops here now since they've been open and all I can say is wow. They've got it all of the good stuff in one spot. It's a small supermarket/Carniceria and they have a counter which you can order tacos, tortas, burritos and a couple other items I believe. And you can order some Aguas Frescas or a beer to go with your food. Everything I tried was top notch and I will definitely keep this place in mind if I want some tacos. Everything was very fresh and flavorful. Their house salsa was just enough to satisfy my likings of having a nice little kick to it. On the kitchen side they have plenty of salsas, cheese, cremas and items like tamales you can purchase and take home as well. There is also a small dessert section between that and the panadaria case full of all sorts of pastries and breads. The desserts seem like they might change from day to day because one day I was there it was full of flan and something else I'm forgetting and today it had a few different varieties of tres leches cake. Located on the opposite side of the store is the carniceria and the small produce section they have. Everything looked fresh and the prices seemed pretty good at a glance. They offer up all the usual fare between cuts of meat, pre-seasoned stuff so you can grab and go for a quick taco night. They of course offer up chicharrones as well! The small produce section had some neat stuff that you'd likely only find at other Mexican specialty stores. There's probably 6 aisles of miscellaneous stuff between canned foods, sauces, household supplies, a dairy case and also some frozen foods. And the whole back wall is a drink case that you can find everything from sodas and water to a selection of beers and other adult canned beverages. Give me some tacos and a couple beers and I could probably do some damage to my wallet in their place! Also, the cleanliness of this place is impeccable. New Mexican grocery spot in Sparks - makes me so happy! I love this so much, you don't realize how many things you're missing out on until one of these pops up. They carry a great selection of latino products, everything we needed for a carne asada we found. Of course the carnicería (butcher shop) is why we came here and it did not disappoint. I saw another Yelper's review regarding this grocery store's tacos and I've been meaning to try it so I picked a few tacos for dinner to share with my family. The store was packed and the dining area of the carneciria was busy. The staff were all very friendly, there was a bit of a wait for the food but it's to be expected since there were so many people and all the food was made to order. I brought home a taco-tasting feast for the family to enjoy and enjoy it, they did. We got some carnitas, al pastor, asada, birria and tripa. Came here for the fish and shrimp tacos and was very disappointed with what I received! First of all the lady taking my order was kinda rude and not welcoming at all. The service was slow waited about 25 minutes for my order. When I received my order I was like wtf is this!? The shrimp tacos I received were not what I've had here before! I got lettuce instead of cabbage with 2 very small shrimp in each taco and a splatter of sauce! Idk why restaurants do this!? Why change something that is good?? The food is amazing!!! Tried menudo, shrimp ceviche, salsa roja, chips, and a few Modelo beer. I've been to Reno so many times and have FINALLY found real authentic Mexican food. The diner is inside the market so you can shop for chicharrón and carne asada while you wait. My cashier was bilingual so it was easy to see everyone can order without issue. What a gem in Sparks! The tacos here are very reasonably priced and yummy! We especially enjoyed the fish, lengua, and carnitas tacos. The green and red salsas that come with it are flavorful and spicy! While you're waiting for your tacos, you can browse the market, which offers products such as Mexican coke candy, pan dulce, and ice creams. We got a tub of guacamole and some chips from the prepared foods counter. On the other side of the store is a long display of meats. I've got to check it out more closely next time! The quesadilla and torta were very good sized for $8.99. There was no skimping on fresh ingredients and well seasoned meat. After lunch, I wandered around. It is a market after all, the cafe was a bonus. Just past the cafe we're more cases of fresh prepared foods- 3 kinds of tamales, 5 salsas, cheeses, and sides. On down the aisle was the pastry cases. Several cases. Full of so many delectable choices. And the value for the size was fabulous. Roamed up and down the other aisles for the usual canned goods. Scored, I found the mole started I have been searching for for 3 years. At the south end of the store was the butcher area. Absolutely the cleanest well stocked meat area I have seen in a while. The fish section had no fishy odor. Fresh tilapia, even octopus. A large variety of precut chicken. Various marinaded meats ready to take home and throw on the grill. Dare I say, even a few cuts that most Americans won't touch. But the pig knuckles were huge. And the chicken feet looked good. I finished my shopping in the fresh produce section. It's small by chain grocery store standards, but the selection was great and had some of the best looking produce I have seen in a while. Staff was friendly. The women at the counter was great. Unfortunately wasn't satisfied with the tamales. I had pretty decent expectations. I picked up 2 of each of the tamales and they were very very very grainy the moment you bite into it. If I could rate it a zero I would. They were not moist whatsoever nor flavorful.
