My husband and I have been looking forward to eating at Marks Steakhouse in Ocala for our last night in Florida. We both were dressed in very nice shorts. When we approached the manager he asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. However, they were not busy. The manager said well obviously you are dressed for the bar or patio. I love the mango honey sauce. Cooked perfectly. Also the Wedge Salad was fresh, crisp & a perfect start. Our NY Strip was a bit over cooked, but the Lobster Mac 'n Cheese was absolutely amazing! We planned an evening with friends to celebrate my last chemo treatment. We drive from Tampa and stayed at a hotel for the night. I made my reservation for 7pm Saturday the 23rd for inside dinning. We arrived a little early and met with the hostess. The two women at the front desk were very nice and stated they would see if our table was ready. As we waited, another party of 4 showed up for their reservation at 7pm and they were sat immediately. We continued to wait as another table was sat for dinner. We began to question why we were still waiting while others were seated before us and we were told "our" table was ordering desserts and we had to wait. The manager was asked how long we had to wait since we were the first 7pm reservation to arrive and his answer was, I can't predict how long people will take to eat, you can go the bar and wait. Unhappy we walked to the bar. As we went to the bar, the manager said to his employees, I'm not going to take their shit. It was said loud enough for our party to hear . We approached the hostess and explained that the manager was very rude and we will not spend our money in a place that allows this treatment of guest. We will take our business to another restaurant. The manager had another exchange with one of our party, definitely solidifying our choice to leave. We love Mark's and have always had a great experience, but will not be back because of the actions of this manager. We will definitely be telling our friends the same thing. read more

Celebrating # 291 & Negroni Week at Mark's Prime Steakhouse and Seafood of Ocala with my Tuesday! From the moment you enter the door you can tell something special is about to happen! The friendly greeting from the staff, to the ambiance and for me especially, seeing 3 Blue Marlin Mounts displayed around the fine dining establishment, we were in the right place to celebrate!! Of course being Negroni Week, I had to order a Smoked Hendricks or two or three! And as we usually do if it's on the menu, Escargot is one of our favorite appetizers. This interpretation was even more special as it was Lobster Escargot! Six large chunks of lobster tail sautéed in an herbed garlic butter, topped with Asiago cheese! It was so yummy I wanted to drink the sauce after we were finished! Nadeene Stuart-Horak chose the Prime Delmonico and this exquisite cut was cooked to perfection with a nice crust on the outside! Served with a side of Sweet Potato Hash! Being in a prime steakhouse, it was a tough choice for me but I decided on one of the specials, mainly because it was so different. The Cajun Seafood Pot Pie, sea scallops, crayfish, shrimp, grouper, okra, corn, RED peppers, carrots, onions, Cajun Gravy with a Flaky Pie Crust! I would go back and order it again today!! The 2021 Flowers Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast was the perfect match for the seafood pie! And now for the best part, DESSERT! By now you probably know if there is a choice and one of the options includes CHOCOLATE that's what we're getting! On top of the list and the house specialty is the CHOCOLATE Paradise, rich CHOCOLATE mousse with oreo kahlua crust finished with hazelnut cream, raspberry puree and toasted almonds!! Went here for my husband's birthday and so disappointed we did. The filet was mediocre, as if it came from Omaha Steak's or Sysco and the calamari were like over-salted rubber bands. This is our 5th time at the restaurant and I am shocked how the service and quality of food took a 180 degrees turn. We waited for 1.5 hours for our food which finally came out completely cold. The manager (Frank) was extremely rude and started to argue with us. It was an embarrassing and horrible experience. This all happened while we wanted a nice evening to celebrate a child's birthday. I don't write reviews but I will for marks. Since moving to Ocala we have been told how good Mark's is. So for my 30th wedding anniversary we went. Had reservations for 615 seated quickly. We ordered and then waited, was told by our waiter food was being plated. 20 minutes later came out saying he looked at the wrong tag and gave us a salad. After that we were ghosted by our waiter. Another staff member came over saying our food was being plated. In the meantime people who were seated after us received their food. Then after waiting another 20 minutes our food arrived. 2 hours after ordering. Mind you this was a Tuesday night not Saturday. Food was mediocre at best. Save your money and have a better steak at outback. For our inconvenience we were given a cinnamon roll. It was hard and my guess it was a day old. I think it would of been more tolerable if waiter was just honest and didn't ghost us. Food still was average at best. The food and experience was not worth the premium price ($460 (with 20% tip) price for 4 people). Hopefully this review will help someone save their money and have a better meal elsewhere. read more

We have family/friends in Ocala and therefore, chose this establishment based on the reviews and menu selections to celebrate our daughter's graduation from FSU. We had reservations, but due to the ceremony lasting longer than expected and traffic being unpredictable, they were very accommodating to us being late. Upon arriving, they were on top of it. On the table was a note acknowledging our celebration. These simple details helped to elevate the experience. We sat outside and the ambiance was stupendous. The weather was perfect and the lighting of downtown really provided a nice vibe. It was a wonderful experience! Our server, Pedro, from Key West, was also five stars! He helped my husband with his choice of entree, and was always very attentive. The food was amazing and tasty. The side dishes were enough for two people, and he forewarned us, as to not order more than would deem necessary. The whole experience was top notch. We went to Mark's the other day and one of the best experiences we've had at this location. Our server, Reyes, was excellent. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. We had an issue with the temperature of one of the steaks and he promptly fixed the issue and brought us a complimentary side item. The food itself was delicious and there was great Christmas decor! My Family and friends surprised me with a wonderful 70th birthday party at Mark's Prime Steakhouse on 1/13/24. Our waitress took the best care in their private dining room. For Ocala, this restaurant easily achieves 5 stars. It's one of the best places to enjoy a fine meal in the heart of the downtown Ocala Square. Valet parking is available anytime the restaurant is open, even during lunch hours. Marks is a classic, dark steakhouse, with a beautiful mahogany bar and an excellent waitstaff. As far as Ocala goes, this is one restaurant is top of the line. I enjoy coming to Marks, though steakhouses can sometimes be a challenge for vegetarians like myself. Reservations are all but required here, especially when coming with a larger group. Last night we had a party of 7. I called ahead for a table and they arranged for us to be outside on the patio. I prefer the indoor dining room, but outside sufficed, nevertheless. The heaters works extremely well and the service was still impeccable, my only complaint would be the chilly garden style chairs (I wish they had cushions) and the loud music playing from the square. Our server, Blake, was totally on top of it and offered us great service all night. I particularly enjoyed the house "infusion martini" this vodka based concoction was enhanced immensely with a champagne floater. I love the Caesar salad here, though it tends to be lightly dressed. If you prefer more dressing, just ask! The bread is also delicious, though our outdoor heater almost immediately melted the butter. I ordered a custom vegetarian pasta dish for my entree. I loved that the dish was totally filled with veggies- almost too may which is an unusual thing for me to say. It was nice, fresh fettuccini noodles with carrots, red peppers, broccolini, and asparagus. Just a light oil sauce and Parmesan cheese kept this dish from being too heavy. I love the cheesy jalapeño potatoes, a great side dish. I do, however, really miss the cauliflower au gratin. Please bring back this excellent side dish!! The desserts at Marks are also divine, and I remember the chocolate decadence cake being particularly delightful. Though we skipped the dessert course last night and opted for chocolate martinis (also excellent) Keep up the good work, Marks, and I hope to see the cauliflower au gratin return to the menu soon! read more

My brothers and I (I was solo, they brought their wife and girlfriend) traveled to Ocala for my parents' 50th Anniversary and we came here to celebrate. We had made plans ahead of time so they knew it was a special dinner. Since parking is tough in this area we just used the valet service and had no issues. We were seated immediately and ordered drinks to get us started. I ordered a Makers Mark Perfect Manhattan and it was excellent, though a title small for the price. I also ordered a chop salad as an appetizer. There were a couple other salads and my dad ordered a shrimp cocktail. I ordered the 11oz filet and grilled shrimp for my entree and the rest of the table ordered the 16oz Delmonico, rack of lamb, petite filet, Ribeye, bone in filet, and another 11 oz filet. Four our sides we ordered Brussels sprouts, Lyonnaise potatoes, risotto, mushrooms, creamed spinach and the cauliflower casserole special. I think I was the only one who's dinner wasn't. A home run. Don't get me wrong, my filet was very good, but I ordered it medium rare and it came closer to medium well. Yes, I could have sent it back...I know...but was hungry and didn't want to wait for them to fire another one. We finished off the meal with a beautiful cake that we had delivered and some coffee. Alex, our waiter, was excellent and the entire service was great. I don't know that I'll ever eat here again, but it seems to be a place that every steak lover should try. read more

Excellent service, lots of choices. I forgot to get the crab bisque again. I got surf and turf, mushrooms, and the bacon wrapped scallops. The scallops were cooked perfectly and were huge! There was a mango chutney type of thing on top with a waffle potato chip garnish. Delicious appetizer. The lobster tail was cooked perfectly. The steak, I asked for Medium, and it was Medium Well. (It ended up being too try and unfortunately, no taste). But everything else was great, actually had no room for dessert. Service was great. read more

Went to Mark's for our 32nd Anniversary. We have been fan's of Marks and it's truly sad to write this review. They used to have a better wine list. That is no more. So we ordered coctails. The first coctail was very weak and I told the waitress about it. The waitress "Angela" then brought a "double" which was a properly balanced coctail. She then padded our ticket with the 23$ Gin and Tonic and a couple of other items we didn't even order. The food was good, but not the greatest. The attitude was certainly a Buz Kill! At check out time it was a struggle to get her to own up to the errors so we had to call in the manager. Granted the manager took care of business and agreed that the charges were not right. The hospitality had left the building at that point. Explanations from this waitress were absolutely ridiculous. IMHO This waitress needs to be fired. It's dimly lit at Marks. We had to use our phone torch to see the bill. Angela obviously didn't think that we would notice her indisgressions. I believe it was all totally intentional. I am sure other wait staff at Marks are fair and reasonable. Just a word to the wise...watch out for this Angela girls cheating! read more

Worse experience ever! What you see in the photo, some type of worms that look like maggots were falling on our table and on us while having dinner here. Disgusting! The first one that fell on me, I told the manager and he didn't even offer to move us or even apologize. Shrugged it off and left. Shortly after, more kept crawling on other people in my party and another two fell on our table (as you see one in the photo below). At this point we were eating our dinner, we all wanted to run out. We were barely able to finish, yet enjoy a pricey dinner. I asked our waiter to please call the manager as he never bothered to check on us or the situation again. When the manager came to our table, he was super rude, annoyed and had the nerve to look at me and say "what do you want some type of compensation?". He definitely shouldn't be a manager and less at a restaurant like this one. My daughter even had one crawling on her back when we left, we noticed as we were walking to our car. OMG! This place is amazing! We just moved to FL. Marks was suggested by a friend for our anniversary dinner. I am a pescatarian, hubby a carnivore. He had the filet with a lobster tail, I the salmon with a mango salad. He, the French onion soup, I Ceasar salad as appetizers. Plus the fresh baked sour dough bread, served hot! It was all EXCELLENT! WE HAD THE CREAMED spinach as a side, so delightfully delicious! His steak and lobster were cooked perfectly, he even got a 2nd meal out of it! Mine, possibly the best salmon I've ever eaten! I got 3 meals out of it, the piece was big. They knew it was our anniversary, and served us a wonderful, decadent dark chocolate covered mousse. First i have to give big credit to the bartender who was patient and helpful in making a specialty drink that i didn't remember quite exactly the equal parts. She offered great suggestions and improvised with a knockout of a drink that was perfect. My other comment is for Lexy the waitress... we were a party if three and already had a few at the bar so we were not the easiest group to be taking an order from. Lexy was the consummate professional and handled our indecisiveness with patience, a smile and phenomenal service. I ordered the filet mignon with mashed potatoes. My wife ordered the lobster escargot and coconut shrimp with a cedar salad. I think our friend ordered Pittsburgh filet mignon and soup. I'll review my order as I'm sure the others in our party will post their own reviews. The filet mignon was excellent. I usually need a steak sauce but not tonight. This filet was so delicious i wish i ordered one to go! Downright delicious, but downright pricey as well. For my budget this is a once in a very blue moon special occasion pricey. But hey, you get what you pay for and the steak was superb. The mashed potatoes on the other hand were just ok. Not much flavor and leaving new feeling like i should have ordered a different side. But that streak and the atmosphere and whole experience was very upscale. The ambiance is very upscale and romantic, and i might add a great place to woo and impress a potential client for business.
