No bottled water for sale. At the end of the show, one of the comedians announced that the show had a tip bucket that you could leave 'tips for them and he stood in the exit doorway with a bucket, partially blocking the exit ( worse than outside a Walmart or WaWa ) then the bright laser bean lights came on before anyone got a check. It's not the same quality or tastes. Let us go down memory lane here & revisit our last conversation, we had with you all there, last visits. You told us the story that the new owner was so dedicated to keeping the recipes the same, that they offered the one person a higher salary to stay on, because they were the ONLY person that knew how to make the original Clam Chowder, that everyone loved. You told us to our faces, my husband & I, that he was the only person that knew how to make the Clam chowder & you KNEW that you all had a LOYAL CUSTOMER BASE & FOLLOWING that loved your food & you were NEVER going to change the recipes. You told us you offered the man a bigger salary to stay on. You assured us the new owner wasn't going to change the recipes, just give the place "a makeover." We drove hours to get to Dan's on Saturday. We get there & there is a new sign out-front, its super cute, the building is painted very cute, looks like a super cute little Maine lobster shack in New England somewhere you would visit on Vacation. Now, the Local Florida vibes & charm, all gone. Asked for Tabasco & you don't even have any. In a southern Seafood Restaurant. Insanity. We order our usual Haddock sammy's, fries & Fried oyster app. The fried oysters batter is different, it's sweet. The two sauces on the side are different. Tastes like bottled Miracle whip & sweet cocktail sauce with no horseradish at all. Both sauces are HORRIBLE. The haddock batter is different. It's sweet & doesn't stick to the fish. (see photos) It's just falling apart all over the place b4 we could even attempt to eat them. Both our Sammy's a complete sweet mess, and not in a good way. The fries are some kind of GIANT hand cut fries that are undercooked. The bun, is a cheap bun like from walmart. No side of cole slaw nothing. I'm also not sure why your Haddock sandwiches and fries are $25 bucks each, double the price as "Gaby's" in Clearwater, Florida. I have posted many photos of their Haddock Sandwich's also, and not only are theirs half the price at $12.99, theirs are twice as big served on a cornmeal crusted bun WITH cole slaw. Math doesn't add up. Your haddock is overpriced and/or you cannot do simple math. OuiOui. Now that you have wrecked the food we will be eating The Haddock sammy's at Gaby's in Clearwater, Florida from now on. I have now taken you off all my Favorite restaurants lists & added "Dan's" to the "Worst food of our lives lists." Even without a reservation, the hostess seated us within five minutes, which was a fantastic start. To help us beat the Florida heat, they thoughtfully brought us iced water right away without us even asking. We started with the cocktails: I ordered the 'Firefly' and my friend got the 'I'm Trini & I know it'--both were wonderfully light and refreshing. For appetizers, we went with the Foie Gras (GF) and the Scallops. Both were exceptionally succulent, delicious, and plated with the fine-dining presentation they deserved. Since our first round went so well, we ordered a second. My friend loved the Firefly so much they got another, while I tried the 'Meet me in Maui,' which I thoroughly enjoyed. The second Firefly wasn't quite as spot-on as the first--perhaps a shift change behind the bar--but we still enjoyed them all. With our second drinks, we ordered the main course: lamb chops with a side of vegetables, cooked medium-rare. We planned to share the meal and specifically asked for the mushrooms on the side since they weren't gluten-free. Unfortunately, when the dish arrived, the mushrooms were placed right on top of the vegetables beneath the lamb. The server was extremely apologetic when we pointed it out (likely a simple miscommunication given that we were sharing), so we just picked them off and placed them on my plate. A quick note on the lamb: we ordered medium-rare, but next time I'll probably go for medium-well, as it was a bit too tender for our preference--though still remarkably tasty. Surprisingly, the vegetables ended up being the unexpected star of the plate! Lastly we ordered desserts, They got the Creme Brulee (GF) and I got the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake of which I tried both, and they were exquisite. I wish I had a larger portion. Especially of the hazelnut cake with shavings of coconut on it. It came out looking like a piece of art when placed on the table. Despite the minor hiccup with the mushrooms, the service was wonderfully prompt, and the overall experience was fantastic. The ambiance is seductive, attractive, and features a gorgeous artistic mural--making it an ideal spot for a sophisticated adult night out. (They also have a private space across the street for larger parties and events.) We were both completely satisfied and will definitely be returning, either together or separately, to try more of their incredible menu. Highly recommended!"
