While watching the only four other tables who arrived after us get their drinks before a waiter came to talk to us, we waited over an hour for overcooked -- which is an understatement -- steaks and burgers. We went the entire two-hour visit without a water refill. The food was mid, and we were planning on sending everything back but didn't want to wait another hour. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time! The food didn't disappoint! Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection! This sounds like I'm being petty but I was frustrated by the napkins that seemed to be washed in scented detergent. The blissful scent of the perfectly charred meat was disturbed every time I used my napkin and the smell transferred to my fingers which I got a whiff of every time I used my fork! This is an easy fix I should think! Also, I appreciated the live music but perhaps it could be toned down a bit. It's an outdoor space so the sound can disperse but we had to converse quite loudly to hear each other. The service was excellent, the food amazing (and don't skip dessert!). read more

The appetizers: 1) Edamame - wood grilled (4.6/5) - tasty; had a grilled flavor. 2) Argentine Chorizo/Sausage - Bell Peppers and onions. While tasty, we expected a grilled sausage. Not sliced sausage mixed with bell peppers 'n onions. (4/5). The main Dishes: 1) Skirt Steak - Mesquite grilled hand cut Skirt steak, topped with chimichurri and served with mixed roasted veggies and potatoes - a bit over-cooked; good taste. The bad - a few cuts of potatoes, a pieces of broccoli and overcooked carrots, decent taste; but the small amount is surprising considering the price. (3.8/5). 2) Maro's Hand Cut Steak - Hand-cut Ribeye CAP steak, served with chimichurri and mixed roasted vegetables and potatoes. Good grilled tasty but not as tender I had hoped. The Greek meaning of Maro - " the hero of sweet wine" This is such a delightful little Mediterranean bistro in Laguna Beach . It's such a romantic, beautifully lit little gem. ( it really gives you all the feels.) We enjoyed their handmade mushroom empanada , the most delicious Shishido peppers with fresh ginger ... the fresh and delicious pear salad, and a ribeye steak with potatoes and zucchini's. With a chimichurri sauce that was outstanding! We made a reservation at 5:30. We were the first couple to be seated and believe me by 630. The place was packed , people with reservations were waiting for a table.. folks love this restaurant they love coming in here. They have a very nice wine list as well( the corkage fee is $25 ) the owners are so accommodating and attentive . Absolutely dog friendly... This could be one of my favorite little dining spots . Street parking is available. They have a gay flag displayed which is why I felt comfortable enough to walk in. However, besides the music - I didn't get a sense that this was a gay bar/restaurant. My burger ($23) was delicious but service was a tad slow even though there wasn't many people dining tonight. This restaurant is pricey! Alex was very nice when he came around. Tough review from an Argentinian: What a great place to find! Not only the food was great but the service and atmosphere put the cherry on top. We started with empanadas and the sausage. Both very tasty. I wish the spinach empanada had more of an even filling, as the meat. The milanesa was big and evenly coated. Needed a tad bit of salt. The estofado was great with the polenta. I was expecting a little bit more hearty, maybe more veggies, and definitely elevated. In my book, a Quilmes is the perfect drink on a summer night. And of course great company. Our server, which ended up being one of the owners was so pleasant to get to chat with to really get to know the roots of the restaurant. We then moved to the grilled Spanish octopus salad, no ordinary salad this was simply Devine, the flavors were unforgettable . Next the Hanger steak, cooked perfectly to our request of medium rare, with crispy potatoes and a perfectly dressed arugula salad. They are not afraid of seasoning their food with simply a bit of salt, in my opinion many restaurants lack the attention to detail. We can not wait to return to try the many tempting dishes on their menu. If possible sit at the bar for the best experience. The grilled artichoke, okra and empanadas and gnocchi are to die for. Great service here all of the time, with the same staff. Wine is very popular here, especially red. The sangrias, both red and white, are delicious and not to sweet. Just tried their wine margarita tonight and it's sweet but so delicious and refreshing. I like sweet, so it's my new favorite. I don't always spend too much money on food when I dine out, but time to time I'll make exceptions when the restaurant is worth it. Maro Wood Grill is, and always will be one of those restaurants. One day I decided to drive down the PCH as a sort of day-cation. I had driven all the way down to San Clemente when I remembered my date later that evening back in Huntington Beach. I was feeling pretty hungry by the time I got to Dana Point, and when I hit Laguna Beach, I started to eat with my eyes and nose. All of sudden, I smelled something beautifully smokey and meaty coming from my left, like I was being tempted by Prometheus. As I was stopped at a light, I realized it had to be coming from the place called Maro Wood grill, it couldn't be the other stores it was next to. So I pulled aside, parked, and walked down into the restaurant. I sat down, I was the only one there at about three in the afternoon, so I struck up conversation with the head chef as I ordered the Specialty Chicken Thigh at his recommendation. I was served quickly, the cooking staff were wonderful to converse with on a slow afternoon, it's a shame I didn't grab their names before I had to go because I would have loved to buy them a beer. The chicken thigh was superb, I was not disappointed in any capacity and the side veggies were equally wonderful.
