The Barn at Holly Farm - Before the crowd arrives...

    The Barn at Holly Farm

    (21 reviews)

TERRIBLE venue management under the guise of a beautiful space…read more In short, three months after signing with The Barn at Holly Farm we were told management would rather start a year of self-initiated renovations than honor their contract with us. Their decision not only affected us, but at least nine other couples who had booked weddings there too. For my fiancé and me, this left us with less than 7 months before the wedding date to find a new venue and re-plan our entire event. It took over a month for us to find a new space that could accommodate our wedding size indoors. To receive a full refund, we were expected to sign a document that stated we wouldn't make any comments which "may, directly or indirectly, disparage" The Barn at Holly Farm (obviously we did not accept those terms). It then took over a month to receive the funds for The Barn's breach of contract. I hope no other couple has to experience The Barn at Holly Farm's mismanagement and the nightmare experience they caused at least 10 couples in 2021!

My husband and I were married at the Barn at Holly Farm in May 2019 (I meant to leave a review…read moresooner but life quickly got in the way). We worked with Karmel as well as a flower vendor (Dirty Girl) and photographers (GSquared) whom Karmel recommended. Part of the reason we were drawn to this venue is because of the good works that they do with equine therapy and rescued farm animals. Our experience with the Barn was fantastic. We really hit it off with Karmel and she made planning the wedding fun and low stress. The vendors she recommended also did a great job and at the end of the day, are just good people. I feel like they all connected with us on a personal level. One fun perk this venue offered is for a small fee someone from the Barn takes guests out to meet some of the animals (chickens, goats, llamas, etc.) during the social hour before the reception. This was a lovely and charming way to start the celebration. I think that what we paid was fair for the service we received. The only snafu at the very end was having to pack our own stuff even though we paid extra for the clean-up service, but it was mostly just our personal belongings and it wasn't a big deal. There's always a little wedding drama - in this case our own guests, and the way that Karmel and vendors went about handling it to reduce the stress on us was beautifully done. They were respectful and discreet and we were incredibly grateful for their support. The space itself on the day of the wedding was absolutely stunning and everything was set up exactly as we had planned. It was a truly magical day and I'm so glad we chose the Barn to get married. I'd do it all over again. :)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU MICK!…read more My husband and I only ever saw one venue because as soon as we saw Hidden Meadows we knew it was everything we had talked about. Our ceremony was in November so we had an indoor ceremony in the chapel area and loved the reception area. We had such a beautiful ceremony! The bridal suite was perfect and had plenty of room for everyone to get dressed in one area and have hair/makeup done in the other. The grooms room was far enough away to make sure no one peaked until it was time. We also had such beautiful grounds to take pictures in. It was too cold and rainy for an outdoor gazebo ceremony. But the pictures we took there are going to be magical. We didn't really have to do too too much to the venue itself for decorating because there is so much natural charm and beauty to the venue. I also have to mention the exclusive catering company, Wooden Spoon. I was nervous to have them as our only option but we had the most delicious meal and received sooo many compliments. Tyler was able to work within our budget and not make it feel like we compromised at all. They also have an awesome rental room with so many decor pieces that we didn't have to worry about bringing with us or taking out of the space. I know I'm biased but it was the best wedding I've been too!

I was a guest at a wedding held earlier this month at Hidden Meadows. According to the website,…read moreHidden Meadows has been owned by the same family for five generations. It used to be a working dairy farm too, before it was a sod farm. Cool! Hidden Meadows isn't too hard to get to from the Seattle metro area, but you definitely need a car as it's in a rural/farming area. We passed some apple farms on the way which made me want to stop and pick apples. Alas, no time. The parking lot was right in front of the building's entrance. Even though you can have weddings outdoors, the ceremony was held inside as it had poured earlier. It's nice to have that option in case the weather doesn't cooperate. It wasn't too clear where the bathrooms were. I probably could've found them eventually, but I asked a person familiar with the place to point me in the right direction. They're on the other side of the chapel, away from the reception area. The reception was held on a covered patio which was next to an uncovered patio. There was a fire pit and also eye-catching views of the countryside. Apparently you can see mountains off in the distance but it was still a little hazy from the earlier rain shower. Speaking as a cold-averse southerner, a few more heat lamps in the reception area would have been great but I was happy to see two. The banquet hall was right next to the patios. It wasn't heated but was more enclosed. It held the wedding of nearly 200 people comfortably, with a open area in the middle for speeches, dancing, games, and other merriment. Dinner was served buffet-style on the covered patio. I had a lovely time. Glad I was able to attend a Hidden Meadows wedding!

We looked at many options online and were able to narrow our list down to a small handful. After our first few venue visits, we figured we would have to settle in one way or another. Then, I searched for wedding venues in Woodinville and came upon a true hidden gem in Liljebeck Farms.  The venue wasn't advertised on the big websites and I hadn't heard of it before. I reached out to Tami and scheduled a visit. When we arrived for the tour we were greeted by Tami who is an absolutely wonderful human. She showed us around the venue and shared the history of the location and her family. Upon walking into the ceremony space, my husband and each I fell in love with it immediately. The venue is everything we wanted and more. The lighting is bright, modern, and inviting. The location has tons of parking spaces for either an indoor or outdoor ceremony. We were able to choose our own vendors and build the wedding of our dreams! The groom's dressing room is just as thoughtfully crafted as the bride's. The bar is stylish and creative. There are fun lawn games for guests. There is a rental room that has a huge selection of beautiful decor free to use for your wedding. Every detail of the venue is well thought out, from the wood to the flooring, the dance area, and the tables. Tami and her husband worked hard to make their venue into a stylish canvas upon which to paint the wedding experience of your dreams. We also scheduled time to visit the venue throughout the year of planning. Tami was very responsive and welcoming. We even came up with ideas for enhancements, and Tami and Todd updated the space to improve the experience for us and their future guests. On the day of the wedding, Tami and her family were so helpful! They helped hang things, move items, lighting, and so, so much more. This is a venue that is beyond professional. They go for the ride with you. They care about their couples and want their  day to be truly special. A lot of care goes into each and every detail to create this beautiful environment. I couldn't imagine a better place to commit to my husband and I am thankful we found this gem.

Doug and Penny have major attention to detail and always have the bride and groom at the center of decision making. We did have an unfortunate event occur at some point during the day. The Grooms Suite was robbed and all the groomsmen (including groom) had items stolen including phones, keys, wallets, and bags. We even had a groomsman get his car stolen. The bridal party kept it from us to make sure we still had the best day ever, but it was still very traumatic and deeply upsetting. It was disappointing to find out the venue did not have any working camera security system (we were told it was an older system that wouldn't connect to their new phones) or secure place for the boys to put their valuables. After speaking with the owners the following day, they verbally expressed that they'd be installing better camera security systems, a safe in the grooms suite bolted to the wall to keep valuables, and barbed wire lining the fence line behind the grooms suite to detract intruders. This made us feel confident they were taking proper precautions to prevent this type of incident in the future. The wedding industry in the greater Seattle area is very small so it didn't take long for us to be put in contact with another couple just a few days later who had also gotten robbed the year prior. After connecting with them, it was clear the incidents were not related. However, they were also told by the venue that they installed new security system and a lock on the grooms suite (which our bridal party was never told about to utilize for our event). We were concerned that if this other couple had been told those things, then why a year later was the "new" security system too old to work or connect to their phones? We reached back out to Penny and Doug to clear the air and get confirmation they actually were implementing the changes they promised us several days prior. We were met with a very defensively toned email placing blame on our bridal party for not utilizing the lock (which we were never told about and never given a code to) and blaming our groomsmen for leaving their valuables unattended (which they did not, our coordinator - who happens to be affiliated with the venue - took all our groomsmen's valuables as they were lined up for the ceremony and placed them in the unlocked grooms suite herself.) They also provided 4 photographs in the email response: - the lock that was installed after last years incident (the lock we weren't provided a code for) - a box of barbed wire that they were planning to install (at the time of the email, it presumably hadn't been installed yet) - screenshots of the view of the security system they installed last year (again, why did it magically not work on the night of our event) - a tiny lock box that's small enough to walk away with (note, it's not bolted to the wall in the grooms suite like they previously told us they'd be doing) My husband and I have remained patient and understanding through this whole situation because we truly understand that this type of incident can happen anywhere. What doesn't sit right with us is the resistance to prevent something like this from happening in the future. It happened to us and it's unfortunate and we're moving on and remembering the good parts of our day. But at the end of the day it would eat us alive if it happened to another couple and we didn't do everything in our power to prevent that because it's been an absolute nightmare (at the time of writing this review, the stolen car has still not been recovered) This is not a review to avoid Carey Gardens. To reiterate, they took the absolute best care of us. However, we felt it would be a disservice not to warn future brides and grooms to please please take advantage of the new safety features that Doug and Penny have claimed they're installing.

We were sad that we found out about this space because somebody he knew had passed away, but... now we know that Maltby has a community center/club. I haven't organized any events here, but it seemed like a good space for a memorial service (and is probably good for many other kinds of events). We did end up having to park someone in because this event was very big, but I think they have enough parking for most events that are held here. The main room is pretty big and open, and the building has plenty of windows that people can open. They also have a stage, at least one storage room, and probably other spaces that I haven't seen. It's a pretty quiet neighborhood so it was a pretty quiet event, but we did get interrupted by a couple of loud motorcycles driving by. I'm guessing that was pretty unusual. I'm not sure if this would be a great space for a "loud party" type of event, so I guess that's something to ask the people who manage the space (if you're organizing something like that). I'll probably never have a need to rent this space or find myself attending one of the dance classes that I believe they host here, but I'm happy to know it exists (and hope this review will be helpful to people who are looking for event spaces in the area).

I called him earlier in the week to see if I could schedule a viewing at which time I disclosed my date. He advised me that due to the venue being entirely volenteer run the only time they show it is Thursdays at 7:30 pm. He was kind of short and standoff ish on the phone but I chalked it up to him being tired and scheduled the viewing. When I arrived not only was I not greeted upon entry he didn't even remember who I was and frankly why I was there. I had to remind him of the phone conversation we had less then 2 days ago. After looking around a bit more I started to talk to him about deposit and when I should put my name on the list for my date. He stated that usually they don't fill up until 2 to 3 months prior. Then he asks me for my data again, if your counting this is time number 4, I advise him 11/4/17 to which he replies without any remorse, is that the first Saturday of November... yes it is... sorry it's booked up by bluegrass I wish I would have known your date before. Thank you Scott for saving me the trouble of working with a bumbling idiot like yourself. I hope any brides looking at this venue reconsider. This would be a disaster waiting to happen I doubt he'd even remember the date you chose and end up double book your date!

I found only Brightwater Center in Yelp, and I decided not to add multiple businesses. Lazy today. Anyway, the parts that we visited are the trails and "ponds" at the North Habitat in the park. The south side looks much smaller according to the map. The ponds are in quotation marks, because they don't look that good currently. Maybe with more rain, they will look more natural. The bigger one, called Lower Pond, is used to manage storm water runoff, which helps the salmon. We followed the Storywalk trail, reading the book "We Are Water Protectors" along this trail. I recommend taking a photo of the site map. Other than the story trail, the paths to the ponds are not as obvious. Lastly, the dahlias are blooming beautifully outside of the center building. On a very hot weekend in July, there were very few people on these trails. Everything is very brown. I highly recommend bringing water because the buildings are closed.
