After receiving a denial letter from my Medicare Part D provider, I brought it to CVS and asked them to bill Medicare Part B - per the denial. CVS pharmacist informed me they needed an asthma diagnosis to bill Medicare Part B. CVS contacted the clinic twice last week and were IGNORED. I checked with CVS today and they still hadn't heard back from Hoag. I called the clinic, spoke to Luis (who refused to give his surname). He was as unhelpful as possible. I fact he attempted to blame ME for Medicare Part B refusing payment. He kept muttering to contact them sooner the next time - which had nothing to do with the issue. I explained to this young man how I was forced to pay out of pocket... at least 5 times. I don't think he ever understood why I was calling. Luis called and spoke to the CVS pharmacist who gave him the Medicare Part B *provider* phone number. Luis gave me that number and told me, the patient, the call. Medicare asked for the NPI (National Provider Identifier) which a patient wouldn't have. CVS is unable to assist as Hoag Urgent Care computer system refused to electronically submit the prescription to CVS - stating it needed a pre-authorization (and advised me to check back in 10 days). This is Albuterol Sulfate nebulizer solution that I needed to keep myself out of the hospital while battling Influenza Type A. I was forced to purchase the medication out of pocket because breathing is rather a mandatory thing. I will be filing complaints with Medicare, Hoag Patient Relations, and the Better Business Bureau. In future, I will be going to another facility for my urgent care needs, as Aliso Viejo has ALWAYS been a problem ... either with billing or substandard medical care. HOAG COMPUTER PRESCRIBING SYSTEM REFUSED TO SEND ASTHMA DRUG TO CVS. That's the issue and it's BAD. I'm a senior citizen with Type A influenza and asthma. I was short of breath at my visit earlier with Dr. Z. Ahmed. He prescribed Abuterol solution for my nebulizer and Tamaflu. Unfortunately, the computer system at Hoag made the decision to NOT send the Albuterol solution to my pharmacy as it decided the med required a pre-auth. My husband came back from on the pharmacy with Tamaflu ONLY. PROBLEM! I was forced to call Hoag Urgent Care and tell them to call in the Albuterol Dr. Ahmed wanted me to have at home to prevent a *breathing emergency*. I was forced to get dressed again and drive myself to CVS to pick up my asthma med. I paid cash. MY CHOICE - NOT HOAG'S COMPUTER. I called and spoke to Katherine, informing her of this massive issue. Instead of being proactive and helping, she made the decision to take my complaint about Hoag computer system personally - although I sincerely doubt SHE programmed the system. My request to Katherine was quite simple: "please inform Dr. Ahmed that Hoag's computer failed to send my asthma med to my pharmacy." Katherine decided to take issue with this simple request - so here I am, posting a complaint. Dr. Ahmed needs to know the problem with Hoag computer system. It's HIS license and he should be confident that the medication he prescribed actually gets sent to the pharmacy. That didn't happen so I'm here to inform the public and Hoag that their computer prescribing system is INTRUSIVE and is making medical decisions without a license. I was using EXPIRED Albuterol at home (April 2025) over the weekend, waiting to go to urgent care today. Dr. Ahmed did everything right. Hoag computer decided to deny me the medication because my insurance wanted a pre-auth. THAT WASN'T THE COMPUTERS CALL. It was mine. I paid cash - $28.34 (NO BIG DEAL). MY DECISION because I like *breathing* ... kinda necessary, right? DO BETTER HOAG ...

Usually, I walk right in to the treatment room after signing in at the front desk. The front desk secretary who checks you in is very pleasant and sweet. Maz, the nurse is really cool and laid-back and makes you feel comfortable and totally makes you feel at ease. Then next comes the provider, PA Richard LICON. He's every provider should be at an urgent care or a doctors office or a hospital. Great bedside manner, knowledgeable, reliable and makes your experience as comfortable as possible. I have been there on the days that PA Richard is not there and it is a severe contrast you will experience to say the least. I believe it is the owner that is there on all of the other days, which is every day, but Friday, Saturday and Sunday to the best of my knowledge. I do not recommend this urgent care. Unless you go on the days that PA Richard is there which is Friday Saturday and Sunday because the provider who is I believe the owner is a condescending, rude, arrogant and overall unpleasant human being and I will never see him again that's for sure. I looked at the reviews and condescending. I think I've seen four times to describe in four different reviews of this urgent care. Thanks to PA Richard. This place is still in business, I'm pretty darn sure. So thank you to everyone there except for the owner/provider who you will unfortunately be seen by if you're there all days except Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile the lobby area is filled they have about 8-10 clipboards untouched and stacked and after 20 minutes of waiting for them to help me while I'm standing their directly in front of them listening about their weekend for them to ask me my name, ID, medical information. Nothing finally they help and I fill out the first form of paperwork because I had been there before. The new girl can't find my name proceeds to have me fill out 3 pages of paperwork and ask for my ID and medical information after 40 minutes of waiting all the paperwork they finally announce to the entire waiting room my medical info + that I can't be seen unless I pay $100 due to my insurance not being accepted. If they had asked me for my info from the get go I would have been in another urgent care getting treated but instead I sat there in agonizing pain for 40 minutes before being told my insurance wasn't accepted. Also I did call prior to going to ensure they accepted my insurance. Instead of gossiping and chit chatting in front of all the people who are waiting for medical care do your job! Considering you signed up to be in the medical field we all could have been helped in a timely manner instead of sitting around waiting for these two women finish their conversations about their weekend plans.

It was clear by their attitude, we were interrupting what was most important to her on her phone. She had an "I don't care" attitude and was bothered by us needing medical attention for my injured husband. We left and got excellent care from a different facility. There is not ever much of a wait - the longest I waited was 25 mins one day but that was rare - usual wait is around 10 mins . They never over book and are open 8-8 daily . The office is always so clean that is very important to me as well as the Drs and careI receive each time . I have been very lucky to have been seen by Sarah each time I have gone in and she remembers my history ( she does look it up ) but it's nice to know she has history with me . She takes really good care of me knowing how quick I can go into getting sicker quicker then others. She has me come back for F/Up appts as she probably does with most who are sick to ensure they are improving. I do drive to this UC as it's my favorite- when I could just go down the street from my house but the care there was not as good and I always saw different Drs . If you want a good UC with the most caring Drs and staff this one will be it . I feel it's almost as good as my primary Dr and that says a lot . Thank you all . Bonus - they have zoom and phone appts as well !
