There is a strong smell of gas coming out of the kitchen. This seriously needs to be checked out asap!

Howard Johnson by Wyndham Quincy - Accessible Queen Room

I stayed here during the Boston marathon weekend since the prices were way more reasonable than in…read moreBoston proper, this is actually a good location to get in and out of downtown since it's literally half a mile (10 minutes walk) to the T Red Line Wollaston station that can get you downtown in about 20 minutes. This hotel was absolutely fine, plenty of space in the room. It comes with a mini fridge, microwave a work space desk, dresser and tv, and near the door there's a space to hang some of your clothes along with an iron & ironing board. In the morning from 6am - 9am they have free breakfast with bagels, bread, mini individual cereal packs, juice, bacon, eggs, and sausage. Over on Hancock near the Red Line station there's a CVS &. 7-11 closer to the hotel so you can grab some essentials, also in that area there's a block with about 10-15 various restaurants. For me this was a good enough location to get in and out of the city without breaking the bank. Also the staff at the front desk were extremely helpful with and accommodation to me with my check in and checking out process.

As much as I can appreciate a no-frills stay, the issues were too abundant to let slide. Let's…read morestart with the most important thing: cleanliness. In terms of the blacklight test, other than a couple small spots on the toilet, the bathroom and room did not throw up any red (glowing, I suppose?) flags. However, Imagine this: I get out of the shower and bring the towel to my face, and on it is a long hair that is neither mine, nor could it have traveled with me. The same thing applies to the floor towel, which, while also unacceptable, is not as severe as the main bath towel. A smaller unpleasant note is in regard the room coffeemaker. The inserts provided were for a different model/type altogether, thus rendering the machine unusable. I do want to recognize that there is an extremely simple breakfast included with your stay. Next, while I didn't book a Howard Johnson in Quincy for the view, the window was spitting distance from the brick exterior of the neighboring car wash. Bear in mind, especially in the early hours, the amount of daylight is negligible. In terms of bedding, this was average. Not the cardboard boxes of that Motel 6 I visited once, but also nothing worth writing home about. Something that did affect sleep quality though? Noise! Footsteps either from the hallway or above were very clearly audible. Worse still, it seemed someone may have moved a piece of furniture upstairs, and the noise was so loud I initially thought it was thunder! If the thundering sound of a bumped dresser doesn't bug you, the lack of a nightlock will. While Quincy is generally a safe city, this is the first time I found myself in a lodging establishment without a nightlock. Final verdict: I am not someone who needs any specific amenities - only a clean, comfortable, and safe place to stay. Regrettably, this Howard Johnson missed the mark on all three of these. As such, there will be no return visit, on matter how low their prices drop.

Room included safe, microwave, full-sized french-door fridge, iron, ironing board, dishwasher, dishes and large TV with lots of available channels. There were also lots of power and USB outlets throughout the room. Climate control unit was very efficient and quiet enough. Ice maker on every floor. Water and coffee available for free all day in the lobby. Free continental breakfast in the lobby was more than adequate...offering fruit, cereal, breads, yogurt, as well as some hot options including bacon. sausage, omelettes and eggs. Fitness Center was better than expected with modern treadmill and elliptical machines. Conveniently located right off of Newport Avenue and near Hancock Street (3A). Lots of shops and eating options in the immediate area. Very close to the North Quincy (Red) T Train Station. Parking was $15 per night.

(While I see reviews concerning a relative lack of parking, between the transit station and the swarm of Ubers in the area, why bother bringing a car at all?) As with IHG hotels generally, there is a daily well-prepared buffet breakfast with numerous options. The desk clerks are accommodating, the rooms are clean and spacious, the beds are very comfortable, and one can rent rooms with kitchenettes. About the only fly in the ointment is that the decor is depressingly corporate (dark brown and taupe), but it's not as if I have dinner parties in my hotel room. Just FYI, this is the same operation as "Holiday Inn Express - Quincy," and whichever one at which you register, you'll wind up here.

I stayed at…read morethis location for three days for the long weekend but I probably should've gone down the road to the Best Western. Upon arrival, there is only ONE handicap parking spot in the front. ONE! How is this acceptable. There were a few more but they're at the rear of the building and it doesn't help anyone that NEEDS handicap parking!!!!! I was rudely asked if I needed help by male receptionist. I checked in online via the Hilton App and got assigned room 410. After lugging my things upstairs, my electronic key didn't work because the room was occupied!!!! I was then reassigned to room 406. The room had smears of lotion or sticky matter on the nightstand. The tub took a very long time to drain after a quick shower. It felt gross because while showering you're standing in stagnant dirty water. The radiator in the room made a whistling noise 24/7 when it was not loudly blowing air out causing lack of sleep. The room door was poorly put together so the hallway light was shining in at night. After an awful night I was woken up to loud banging next door. The front desk told me there's leaks upstairs. Breakfast is awful because no one wants to work and the staff is RUDE! I watched a patron going to the back kitchen room to politely ask for syrup for the waffle station and the staff member sucked her teeth and slowly came out to put more syrup in the bin. They also ran out of forks and she snapped when I asked if there were anymore forks. We were all eating our waffles with spoons and hoping for the best. I requested washcloths and housekeeping came to tell me there were no more. What do you mean?! The parking lot was not cleaned or salted properly. The ONE handicap parking spot was pure ice. How does a wheelchair get through this or someone with an unsteady gait using a walking device? I'm sure the ADA would love to check out this establishment. The worse Hampton Inn I've ever stayed at and never will I consider this specific location. Poorly run location!!!

Cost aside, I appreciated a lot of the little things about this hotel that made the overall experience enjoyable. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but it has a large area to the right where you can seat for breakfast, and it's very good for a hotel breakfast (minus waffles, which is fine with me). Coffee and tea are available around the clock. If you want to stay local for lunch and dinner, there's a variety of restaurants within walking distance. At the front desk, they offer complimentary ice cream sandwiches, another nice perk. There's a small bar with a fun bartender. The liquor is limited, but they can make basic cocktails, and they have selections of beer and wine. Another nice touch in every room is the L-shaped corner sofa. The room was reasonably quiet, and the bed was comfortable, but light came into the room from under the door and above the shade. The parking lot is a nuisance. There are about a dozen spots immediately in front of the hotel (several are for handicap and some are reserved), and the rest are on the other side of the road you drive through the complex. The area in front of the hotel is large enough to accommodate several cars loading or unloading at the same time.
