Really enjoyed the soft opening of this place. Their beers are quite amazing, I enjoyed the cranberry ginger revenge beer. I also got an urban orchard dry ridge cider which was delicious as well. Out of everything though the pulled pork nachos were AMAZING, sadly they didn't have bacon bits in stock but the sauce on the nachos was just wow!! One thing that was interesting about this place was how dark it was I wasn't the biggest fan about it but hey it's just a soft opening, can't wait to see the grand opening!!

The best food in Mars Hill. This would have been a 5 star review but I had to dock some stars because when ordering there were 2 incidents: 1. Before the employee would take a name or an item anything she immediately hit me with wanting a credit card number and asking if I wanted to add tip before taking my order. If you want payment up front like that set up online ordering especially this day in age of Covid and take out. 2. Once finally placing the order the menu says {pic attached} that the cheese quesadilla comes with choice of BBQ. The order taker did not ask which kind of BBQ so I asked and she said No it does not come with BBQ. I assumed I had been mistaken and relooked at the menu later that night. I was NOT mistaken as you will see in my posted photo. For the record they did charge me I price though did not include the BBQ. Otherwise we ordered and shared for a sampling the fish and chips and bangers and mash. Both items were excellent I feel reasonably priced for what we got especially the fish and chips; it was a single piece but very thick and huge! The bangers had a very distinct flavor so don't be expecting some run of the mill off the shelf brat or smoked sausage. I would have liked to see the bangers served with mustard instead of gravy but I'm sure that's easily fixed next time if I just request it. The menu is somewhat limited if you have picky or healthy eaters or aren't looking for bar food but I'm glad to see a few specialty items that aren't on every bar menu on the menu. Though the ordering process started off a little rocky I would give them another shot this time prepared ahead of time to provide credit card immediately before ordering and we will try at least something new so I will update this review upon my next take away from this establishment.

Ok, this is possibly one of the coolest places we have visited in our 6 years in AVL. Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery opened this old movie theater (get the tour!) and its awesome. I think the owners/managers must be English, because all the beers are english style and the food is as well. So beer wise, I only had the english style IPA. Im more of a west coast guy (yes, I am an IPA snob) but this wqs very, very drinkable (had 3). The food was the 2nd best surprise. Shepards Pie in a foil serving and wife loved it. Mine was the fish and chips. The fish had a heavier breading that what we have had in the UK, but the chips (fries) we perfect with the vinegar.THE BEST part was the venue itself. Just a super cool place. I highly, highly recommend this place. Ask Jamie (super nice) to give youbthe tour of the old projector and the kids "crying" room. We will be heading back soon!

Fish and chips. Batter on (right) no batter (left). Super chewy, no flavor.

Feel a bit mislead by the 4.5 stars, but maybe my experience was an outlier...or parts of it... Pros: * Cute decor inside and out. Old timey movie theater with rope lights and vintage movie posters. Has variety in seating types * The fries were good- hot and well seasoned Cons: * The Food: We were the only people there for food at this time, and it took 25 minutes for the food to arrive- leaving us with about 20 minutes to eat our food before closing. We ordered the shepherd's pie ($13) and fish & chips ($13). The shepherd's pie came in a foil tray that reminded us of TV dinners. It would take a minute to plop the food on an actual serving plate. Gravy tasted and looked like it came out of a can/jar. The pie itself was alright...nothing special to write home about. But where we really thought they deserve getting 1 star off the rating is the fish & chips. The beer batter fell off the fish during frying process- this led the fish to be flavorless and gave it a terrible chewy texture. Drowning every fish bite with prepackaged tarter sauce was the only way I could eat it...I wasn't able to finish the 2 pieces of fish because I ran out of tarter. I was also disappointed that the tarter sauce came in a prepackaged thing like ketchup. * Cleanliness/facility: Spider + spider web + unsure what kind of dead thing was on the wall, riiiight behind where my head was (see pics) . The table wasn't clean when we sat down, we had to wipe it down ourselves)- there were crumbs and grease. Weird powdery looking (dust, maybe?) on the napkin dispenser. Toilet seat in the women's bathroom is broken off the hinge, and I almost fell off of it: I told an employee that, and she just stared at me. Hopefully it's now been fixed or a broken toilet sign was put up... They turned off most of the lights 25 minutes BEFORE their 8 PM closing time. Generally, I hate this practice- it makes customers feel like we're getting kicked out/unwelcome. It takes less than 2 minutes to turn off the lights at a restaurant, it really doesn't get you off your shift that much quicker...speaking from experience as a previous restaurant server. Minor detail- The tree lamp next to us had 1 soft yellow light bulb, 1 white bulb (that reminds me of being in an office) and 1 broken bulb. Not a big deal, but the lighting game can be stepped up. Generally, 1 star off for all of this facilities stuff. * Masking: there's literally signs EVERYWHERE that say "no mask, no service"- at the entrance, above the bar, on the bar, on the table number signs. Yet, a middle age man without mask on was given pack of beer to go, right in front of us while we looked at the menu. One of the bartenders also had her mask underneath her chin. We are still in a pandemic, and feeling safe at a dining business is important to us. 1 star off for public health. See pictures attached for details.

Cider, beer and a gorgeous view!!

Such an amazing time! Everything was great! The wings, pull pork nachos and fish and chips! The beer was awesome and the sweet cider was perfectly refreshing! We sat down by the lower deck close to the water! Such a relaxing time and great service! They even took the time to explain some beers and more! Definitely coming back again!

Mars Hill location. Good use of an old cinema, but dark.

The menu was pared down; no fish and chips, no fries available - disappointing. I ended up with a pulled pork sandwich and a pack of chips. Beer was good. I had the ESB and my wife had a coconut porter. Coconut flavoring isn't pleasing to me, but my wife enjoyed it.

The staff is amazing! The bartenders and fun, fast, and friendly! The food they have is amazing! Anything with pimento cheese or the Beer Cheese is almost too good (it feeds the SOUL). The brewing equipment in the old theater looks amazing and adds a sense of New And Old mixed together. ALSO, the beers made by the brewers are amazing! The Scottish Ale is a must try!

Went here after a hike, beer was very delicious and perfect on a hot day. The view out back is incredible, you're sitting right on the river and you can look up and see Chimney Rock. Amazing bbq pulled pork sandwich, pork was perfectly cooked and juicy. We got the Carolina bbq sauce and it was delicious, perfectly tangy/little sweet and smokey, and it just a hint of spice. Get the fries. Super crispy, soft on the inside, big portion, and they seasoned them with black pepper and salt. We will definitely be returning!

The Madison County Courthouse is temporarily closed due to the water damage but the structure is still standing. On my way back to where I parked, I spotted this place and stopped in. I bought a beer - not much in the way of support, but I am back on keto and not eating pizza no matter how awesome it smells/looks - and opted to write this review immediately. As I'm typing, another customer asked the beertender about the storm. He pointed to the piece of black tape marking high water line on the wall. It's about NINE FEET off the ground. I included a picture. The leaves up here are just about starting to change. If you're thinking of leaf peeping and heading through the North Carolina mountains, don't miss out on Mad Co. Brew House. Firstly, their Pilsner is excellent. Second, they need the support. [Review 1124 of 2025 - 4371 in North Carolina - 24677 overall]

You order at the register, pick up your food, and bus your own table. The minimum requested tip is 20%. The place is "open air" so in June, it was pretty warm. We wouldn't go back, but pizza is so personal so give it a try and see what you think.
