Great place to enjoy a brew and a meal. Great atmosphere with what amounts otherwise to a playground for kids, making this a very family friendly place. It has a bit of old barnyard vibe. Lots of outdoor room to sit and enjoy the weather. They have a really nice covered area surrounding three sides of the brewery with tables where people can congregate and enjoy their beverages... They are dog friendly too. That's a big one for us. Nice friendly staff... Just a fun place to visit. The beer selection was not extensive, but they covered a lot of different tastes. The Base Camp Grub food truck outside had amazing "Smashed Burgers" and super fries cooked in beef tallow. Quite an experience. Definitely recommended.... read more

May I first start by saying the beer was amazing! I am a beer snob I wasn't holding my breath- but I was blown away by the quality and craftsmanship of the brews. Fantastic variety ranging from stouts to iPad to lagers. There are even hard kombucha and wine options...very impressed and I would return for the beers alone. Contributing to the 5 stars SFB is a quaint small brewery with all COVID protocols in place so don't be a jerk and bring your mask! Plenty of outdoor seating and social distancing. COVID aside these are just nice people who it feels like they truly open their home to you. They are happy to talk to you about their beers and the farm. We sat around the fire pit that our hosts had lit on This chilly December day and looked at the bees hibernating in their hives. We also looked at the flower beds that will be beautiful in the Spring. We met resident cat Barley and Hops was around there someplace. There are also goats on The farm. Ingredients when possible are not only local but grown on Sideway's own sustainable farm! There are food trucks- including an organic doughnut truck- check their webpage and FB page for participants. We were very impressed at the hospitality, quality and beauty of this brewery- we are looking forward to a return visit when Spring has sprung! This is one of the coolest breweries in North Carolina. It is a smaller brewery so don't expect a lot of choices. They usually only have 6 to 8 different brews at one time. Buuuuut that being said..... THIER BEER IS AMAZING!!!! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They will make you feel right at home. The owners are usually around to and that adds the the family atmosphere. This is a family friendly brewery as well plenty of non alcoholic choices for the kids and those who can't have alcohol. There is always a great selection of food trucks during the week (they are only open Thursday through Sunday at the moment) My wife and I have come here every year for the past 6 years and highly recommend it to anyone that likes good beer and a good time. Go to Sideways Farm!!!! Do it! We had such a lovely, quaint Saturday afternoon at the brewery! The brewery is a little out of the way and perfect for a fall day! The atmosphere is very laid back and casual. The owners are on site. We loved hearing about their experiences and how the farm/brewery came to be. They kept a fire going outside and continually replenished the fire wood. After enjoying the fire for a while, we took a stroll through the farm. We visited their farm animals. We had such a laugh, hearing the rooster call as we walked by. Such a dreamy fall day!! Aside from the atmosphere, the beer was awesome!!! They grow many of the ingredients on the farm! If you take a walk, you can see some of the hop vines hanging down. Such a cool experience. If you're in the mood for something different, they have alcoholic kombucha on tap! I received a flight of 4 kombuchas for $15. I said a flight but it was almost four full pours. Gosh and I almost forgot that we had DELICIOUS apple fritters from the donut truck on site. As I'm writing this review, I keep recalling all the different, small details that make this place so special! I can't wait to go back for another visit! read more

I had high expectations for this place and sadly I felt let down. I made my husband and two brother-in-laws come with me and talked it up so much. I loved that it was on a farm and that I would get to see goats. When we arrived we were the only ones there which was fine. I was surprised to hear that you could get half-pours since the beer comes in a large bottle. I tried the passion fruit and wasn't a huge fan. My husband had something that came from a previously opened bottle and he said it was flat and didn't taste right. After one round we decided to leave. I was so disappointed that from the photos and descriptions that there would be goats and it would be on a farm. We were surrounded by housing developments and no animals were in sight. I also saw on Instagram that they were having some vendors and food trucks that day and nothing was happening when we were there. We drove almost an hour to get there and unfortunately felt it was a wasted trip. read more

An experience more than just a tasting! This family owned brewery is the hidden gem that my yelp cohorts speak of! John's first home brew kit was a gift from his wife 13 years ago. Named for a Citizen Cope song, Sideways does their namesake proud with interpretive flavors as emotion-provoking as the artist's lyrics. All beers are poured out of bottles, and the owners will talk you through either the traditional or sideways tasting menus and then choose your favorite for a half or full size pour, if you can pick a favorite. Beers are brewed with fresh ingredients straight off the farm and with the neighbor's honey, and pulling up a stool at the bar makes you feel a as if you've wandered over to the neighbor's for an afternoon of day drinking to enjoy watching Red, the family chicken, and Hops, the spry cat, spar of the title of king of the farm. Both of these pets actually adorn the labels of their delicious brews for added charm. Not worth it to dock them for the cheap guilden t-shirts with their logo for $25, spring for the softer better quality brand t-shirts! The beer grown here shirt is super cute. read more

Worth a visit. The owners, John and Carrieann, have crafted a gem of a brewery in Etowah. Not too far from Bold Rock and Sierra Nevada and nestled in the countryside, Sideways is a must-do for any beer aficionado. The highlight of the visit were the guided tastings. Similar to a wine tasting, you are walked through a list of 5-6 beers from their many offerings. One list includes traditional beers, like a London Brown and German Brown. The "fruity & funky" list included the Roselle Saison, Smoked Sage, and the Ultimate Strawberry Farmhouse (a collaboration with Buchi kombucha). The complexity was just fantastic. I mean really, how often do you find beers that can carry a distinct nose like a wine but with all the malt, hops, and barley that makes beer... beer. Ugh! Amazing find. The environment on a Saturday evening was laid back, local, and filled with delicious pours from purveyors who love their craft. 100% recommend a visit to Sideways Farm & Brewery. Very cool spot near the Hendersonville area! Sideways Farm and Brewery is a small farm tucked away from the hustle and bustle that offers a nice selection of homemade brews. Rather than brewing into kegs, they brew into bottles. This is an interesting approach that makes it easy to grab and go for those interested. The stout was fantastic, one of the best I've had. The golden ale was also really good. The food truck on-site was fantastic! My understanding is that the BBQ food truck is on-site every other weekend. We tried the sampler which included ribs (both spicy and mild), pulled pork, smoked chicken, and Mac-n-cheese. The Mac-n-cheese definitely had a velveta cheese taste but was still really good. All of the bbq was great. Definitely a solid option for those in the area! read more

This place is a hidden Gem. Located between Brevard and Asheville in Etowah. The brewery and tap room is at just off the parking lot with the farm beyond the brewery building. The taproom space is warm and inviting with a good size bar/tasting area in the middle. One of the cool things they do here is a guided tasting instead of just handing you a flight. For $12 you get to try 4 beers (two tastings are available - traditional and sideways), plus get to go home with a new piece of glassware from the brewery. During the tasting you are told the history of the brewery and of the beer you are tasting by the owner and Brewer himself. I absolutely loved the small family feel this place had, the owner led our tasting, his wife was giving yours of the farm and grandma was running the cash register. Beers are bottled in 750ml bottles (wine bottle) and range from $11-16 for the regular beers. They did have special limited releases also available. Favorites included the Justice Ale and the Blueberry Lemongrass Wheat. Many of the ingredients in the beer are grown on the farm. One the day we visited they had an awesome food truck, Sweet Cheesus on premises. Highly recommend checking them out too! read more

I learned so much as Carrie Anne guided us through a tour of the farm, and came to appreciate the complexity and creativity it takes to brew your own beer from Jon as he explained the process inside the brewery. I, who am not a beer drinker, even liked each of the Sideways brews that were poured for me during the tasting. I liked one so much, I bought a bottle to bring back to Florida. Not only is Sideways Farm and Brewery a model that I envy, it is in the top three breweries we have ever visited. As a head brewmaster at my own brewery in order to research what other regions are doing, the gross majority of our caloric intake on vacations is from breweries. When we walked in the door, we were greeted and treated like an old friend. They took time throughout our visit to talk about their beer as well as their farm. They harvest all of their own yeast strains for all of their beers. Everything is solid to style, meaning they do not overwhelm you with large amounts of hops or syrup level mouthfeel. They use resources from their own farm to accentuate the farm house and saison style beers. Not only do they provide an incredible quality of beer, they also provide an experience of agritainment that is not easily replicated. How many breweries can you hold and feed a baby goat, watch a working bee hive, or pick a bouquet of flowers? Truly unique brewery. read more

Sideways is such a gem. This was one of the first breweries my husband and I visited after moving to Horse Shoe from southern California. We've been half a dozen times and each time I love it a little more. The brewery is at one end of what is essentially a big field surrounded by woods and hills and a little neighborhood There are several picnic tables spread far apart with popup tents for shade and a concrete patio around the edge of the building. The taproom is small, intimate, and inviting. There's plenty of parking. Their small-batch beers are creative, diverse, and constantly changing, made with ingredients grown on their own farm, and so delicious. If you want a break from beer, they also offer jun, a flavorful and refreshing fermented tea, like kombucha but bubblier and with an ABV similar to beer (my favorite is elderberry). You can buy bottles to go. They almost always have a food truck but check their social media ahead of time to make sure. I've tried fantastic BBQ from Pigs in a Basket and the most incredible portobello gyro from a Greek food truck (unfortunately I can't remember the name). The real attraction, though, is the doughnuts. Oh my god, the doughnuts. The lemon basil doughnut is a work of art. I want to have that doughnut as dessert for my last meal. The people who own it and work there are super friendly and kind. They treat you like family and seem genuinely pleased to see you. They've put a lot of effort into making the place comfortable for their guests. I know we're going to spend many afternoons there this summer. ONE NOTE OF WARNING They have small beehives on the property. They're not super close to the brewery but today I got stung while sitting at one of the picnic tables. This place is a truly hidden gem!!! If you're ever in Etowah or nearby, I would highly recommend stopping by. It will be well worth your time. The beer is fantastic! Each one completely different than the other. They have no taps, and pour out of bottles. It's like being at a winery, but with incredible beer instead. They work with other farmers in the area as well so the ingredients are local. They don't do flights, but will serve four 2oz pours of into one of their glasses and you get to keep the glass at the end for $12. You get to hear the story of each beer, and what incredible ingredients went into it. It's a family owned operation, and they were so nice! Again, I highly recommend! It won't disappoint!! read more
