She is knowledgeable, sweet as can be, loves children & an all-around great pediatrician. I have called her after hours (with no paperwork or folders to reference), and she knew right off who I was, my children & their issues! She's very proactive and wants you to have on-hand what you need to care for your child. That said I have to take off a star for punctuality; Dr. Harris will start her appointment book at 9:00 am, but she won't stroll through the door until 10:30! She also works EVERY sick child into her scheduled appointments. That means you will wait, on average 1.5-2 hours to get into the triage; you'll still wait another 30 minutes to get into an actual room and have your child seen! Yes, you read that right; you can wait up to 3 hours BEFORE YOUR CHILD IS ACTUALLY SEEN! I left her practice, for about 1.5 years, but went back when my youngest was born, as he had some issues, at birth and I truly do trust her (she's even looked at my throat/taken my temperature a time or two)! But after getting him on the right track, I had to leave the practice again. I just can't sit in a doctor office all day like that; it doesn't work for my family. She takes an infinite number of state-funded patients, so the office is always overcrowded, with loud and sometimes belligerent people. Her staff also leaves a lot to be desired, but what can you expect from those being paid very little and subjected to angry, questionable folks all day?

For annual check-ups, you see the nurse practitioner, who is efficient and seems fine (wasn't told in advance, or I probably would have rescheduled with another OB-GYN though). Dr Alawode's time is dedicated to his obstetrics practice. On the upside, time in the waiting room is usually less than 15 minutes, and his office staff is fairly efficient, although I often have to call back multiple times for a prescription refill or questions to be answered) Again, I have heard that Dr. Alawode's attentive and very personable, but not sure that the minor issues with the office staff and exclusively seeing the nurse practitioner are enough to justify going.

Understandably, such an exceptional doctor is in high demand. Unfortunately, a wait time of 30 minutes or more beyond a scheduled appointment is the norm. This complicates service. I will continue to see Dr. Herry as I am retired and generally able to schedule 30 minute appointments that I understand will take 2 hours. I suggest scheduling appointment times appropriately and change the existing system. This has been going on for years. Given the age of many of the patients, it appears that it is fine with them to wait around for hours. In the future I may no longer be able to do so and required to find a physician with a support staff that respects the time of clients. Do some math. Figure out the average time spent with a patient and the average arrival time of patients. Use this to create a realistic schedule.

Today, while waiting for an appointment with Patti, the front desk receptionist, Cherie (the woman…read morewith red hair), was very rude when I asked when I would be seen. I had been waiting for 30 minutes, which is unusual when seeing Patti. I happened to ask at the same time another patient was called back. Cherie responded, "They are being seen by Dr. Jani. When Patti gets a room, you will be called back." I said, "Oh, no, I was not asking because they went back. I was asking because I've been here for 30 minutes." I continued speaking calmly, even though she was being very dismissive and rude, seemingly so she could return to talking with her friend, who was another patient. She then said, "Like I said, they are seeing Dr. Jani. You will be called back when a room becomes available." I asked her, "Why do you keep talking about other patients? That is not why I asked when I would be able to go back." I have been a patient at this office for years, and I am familiar with how medical appointments work. There may be patients who are called back before me because they are seeing a different provider. That was not my reason for asking. When I walked away after her rude response, I saw Cherie look at me with annoyance. I told her that I hoped she would have a better day, and she said she was having a great day. I responded that it did not seem like it. When I sat down, an elderly woman next to me appeared shocked by Cherie's unprofessional behavior. When I was called back later, Cherie looked at me in a very mean and intimidating way, as though she wanted to fight me. She was squinting her eyes at me and making other intimidating facial expressions. While I was in the examination room, I overheard her speaking very loudly and openly about my patient status to another patient who appeared to be her friend. Cherie said that my chart showed I had previously been discharged, that Patti allowed me to return, and that everyone was now regretting it. Regardless of the truth of that claim, I hope Dr. Mehta and Associates take this matter seriously. Their front desk staff member openly discussed information from my medical chart with another patient, which may constitute a serious HIPAA privacy violation. Cherie's behavior today was unprovoked, unprofessional, and disgusting. She did not stop at simply being rude. She escalated the situation by attempting to intimidate me with her facial expressions. She then took matters much too far by loudly discussing private information from my chart with another patient. Cherie also disclosed information about another patient by stating who that patient's doctor was.

As soon as she entered the room, the tension that had built since we arrived at the office dissipated. Her disposition put my boys at ease, and she was very attentive to their medical history and needs. We will keep going back for her.
