Kennedy, the horseback lead, was knowledgeable, calm, and gave us clear, easy-to-follow instructions that even beginners could understand. She checked on us the throughout the ride to make sure everyone was comfortable and having fun. The trail was beautiful: shady sections, little creeks to cross, gentle up-and-down hills, and tons of lush green scenery all around. We passed several bikers and hikers, and every single one was super respectful of the horses and politely gave us the right of way. The horses themselves were awesome. calm and steady, with just the right amount of playful sass to keep it interesting. We left smiling and already talking about coming back. This was a gem of a find in the hills of La Verne. I was so impressed with the trail we got to hike/ride and the horses chosen were excellent riding companions. My 11 year old daughter wanted to trail ride for her birthday with a few friends and everyone had the BEST time! I'm always looking for things to do with my grand daughter that is close to where she lives. I had no idea a place like Marshall Canyon existed, and it's minutes from granddaughter's house! We had a great time! First time trail ride for grand daughter and she was a little nervous and a lot excited! Gwen was our trail ride guide and she did a great job explaining everything to us and she took very good care of us on the ride. After the ride Gwen took pictures of us and gave us treats to feed to our horses. The trails run through a bike and hike trail, through lots of trees and along creek beds that are dry right now, but which Gwen said does get filled with running water. It's an up and down trail, which added some fun for us beginner riders. At the top is a nice view. We ran into only a few bikers and hikers, who were all very polite and and careful around us riders. The horses are so sweet and well behaved. Gwen explained they all come from different backgrounds and doing trail rides is their retirement job. You can tell they are well cared for. I hope they love their life and making people happy on the trail ride as much as we enjoyed them! The facility stresses safety (good!). A good tip from other reviews is to go early when it's cooler. I booked this ride for my birthday as a special treat. I ended up alone on the ride with the loveliest of guides, Kennedy. I rode a gorgeous mustang named Moonshine, who was just a sweetheart. I will for sure come here again and hopefully bring friends next time. My only criticism is that I wasn't sure where to park or where to go when entering the facility since there are many people who are boarding their horses there. Clearer signage for the trail rides would be cool. :) read more

I can say enough good things about this place!!! Tips: -Show up 20 min early find parking and to sign paperwork -Wear sunscreen -Book early morning sessions -No bags or purses allowed so make sure you have somewhere where your phone can be secure. -Wear the helmet -Relax and have fun!!! Pros: -Booking is very easy -Your instructor gives you a demo on how to guide your horse and what might happen and how to avoid things. -Our instructor was so patient and knowledgeable. -You can tell their horses are well looked after and very sweet. -Horses do listen to the instructor which is great for people who are nervous and beginners. Cons: -It's not really a big deal but you do share the trail with bikers. So for first time riders that can be daunting. But most bikers know how to approach so they don't spook your horse. For the most part bikers are very nice but it is something you should be aware of. This is my daughters first solo horseback riding experience. She usually rides with me on my horse and she absolutely LOVED it! She was very scarred at first but our instructor was very patient and took the time to teach her how to properly guide the horse without hurting them. But the end of the tour my daughter was a pro even singing to the horse. We got a chance to pet and feed them a snack after for a job well done. As a Mom I was super nervous about her falling but the trainer assured me that the horse they put her on (Dexter) loved kids and took care of them very well. You can tell Dexter would take the safest route throughout the trip and that made me feel very reassured. Thank you all again for the fun and memorable experience! The horses were extremely filthy and the guide name Cinnamon is extremely rude! She barks orders, talks condescendingly to the riders, shows no care or concern for first time riders. Very very rude! There's a rule of no cell phones while riding but she was on her phone the entire ride and confiscated our cell phones! Do not recommend riding with that lady! This ruined my experience! read more

I bought a Groupon deal for a 1 hour trail ride for 2 people and booked our reservation about a month in advance for a Sunday at 10:30am. Advance reservations are a must!!! We arrived on time for check in at 10:10 but were a little lost with where to go. We stood in front of a portable with a sign noting it was the office but was later directed by a woman to fill out forms on a picnic table under an open-air shelter. After signing 3 forms and selecting a helmet for myself (optional for adults) we were ready to go but our time slot has 2 other riders. They ended up coming late and then the child wasn't with a parent so her mom had to drive to sign the forms which delayed our ride over 20 minutes. Luckily the group after us cancelled so we still got to do the whole route. My husband rode Dexter who was a really good horse but has a tendency for tripping as told by our guide. He tripped only twice and it wasn't a big deal at all. Kind of cute actually. My horse was Moonshine and she loves to stop and eat grass so I had to be diligent with keeping her going and my hands still feel a little sore from pulling up on her! She was a good horse overall though. The trail ride is easy but does have some small hills. There are nice views of the canyons and we passed hikers and bikers on the trails. At the end we took a few photos on the horse and a few next to them as well. Tips: -don't plan on bringing much with you especially if it's not secure! A woman in the group dropped her phone on the trail and she didn't even realize when/where it happened -show up on time! If the group didn't cancel after us and we weren't so accommodating to be delayed over 20 minutes for the 2 other guests, they would have been left behind and had to reschedule -use the bathroom before you get here as there's just a port-I-potty Overall this is a no frills trail ride which was fun and super affordable with the Groupon (or even without). I've been on other horseback rides where the guides tell you more about the area, plants around, the horses, etc but that was not the case here. We mostly rode in silence but it was peaceful and our guide did a good job of checking in on us throughout. There is parking available and within 10 minutes drive there are tons of restaurants for an after-trail meal! read more
