Well... I've always been nervous about medical care! After having days of chest pains finally decided to head to ER. To my surprise, intake was fast, nurses we overly kind and caring. WOW! After tests were completed I was notified that everything looked really great - no heart concerns whatsoever. Yay!!! I let them know I was so concerned about going in and thanked them for their compassion and excellent care. So.... don't hesitate to go to Marshall's ER! That is all!! lol read more

Mixed... Seeming attempt at being helpful on the phone but uh... I guess? Finally got through to the ER nurse, who then told me "shift was changing" and to "Call back in 30 minutes" --this is an emergency... THEN I call back and they tell me they don't take calls until 10 am. SO... I guess if your parent has an emergency, you can call within set hours, but not while they're changing, and not before or after certain times so if you want an update, good fucking luck. Went to Marshall 3 times yesterday as I was assaulted and got a concussion! I was going so bad that I was screaming in pain!!! They refused care to me the 3rd time and then they sent me to Folsom where I was treated and treated so kindly not yelled at by a doctor named Michael Dowty that refused care to me at Marshall on 29th of August 2026! We have just welcomed my grandson into the world! My daughter in law came here through out her pregnancy and gave birth here. Labor didn't go as planned and she ended up with a C section. Everybody was fantastic! All staff! Rooms were big! Care was phenomenal! Her stay here was 5 days. Nobody wants to be here that long but they really did make it as comfortable as possible for her. We stayed at my sons house to watch the dogs and were able to visit easily and drop off food when they were tired of hospital food, which I hear wasn't terrible! Again huge shout out to everyone in the birthing center! Excellent job you guys! We appreciate you! read more

I had to spend a few hours at Marshall ER on Sunday, January 31, 2026. I was in a room by the nurse's station and also the security people. I heard nurses and techs being catty after walking away from a patient's room. I heard them yelling from the nurse's station to "be quiet". I hears them laughing loudly. We are all there sick and this is not an atmosphere to help us get better. I spilled my urine bucket by mistake and let someone know right away. The entire stay was spent with urine under my bed. It never got cleaned up until I moved out of the room into the hallway again next to the nurse's station. I could hear everything they were saying about other patients, unkind things. I was appalled. What were they saying about me? I met with a marvelous social worker I believe her name is Allie. She was so patient and kind. She deserves all good things life has to offer her. The poor patient next to me was just yelling for some air. The security guys said she's too old anyway and they snickered then at one point I thought she had passed away. The halls were full of beds. The doctor that I finally saw was great! Dr Skratts maybe? He was so empathetic toward me. If I just had to rate him it was be a five star rating. Unfortunately too much happened that I cannot unhear or see and it's a horrible vision I have to live with. I'm scared of retribution by posting this because it is the only hospital in my area within 40 miles. read more

I entered the ER for a medical emergency from the moment I walked in the front door, to the min I was wheeled up to ICU to wheeled out the front doors Thursday was beyond fantastic! I was met by some amazing medical staff, intake personnel , Doctors, Surgeons, Specialists, RN's, RN Intern, Aides, Lab technicians, CT, Ultrasound, Xray, phlebotomists, kitchen staff and housekeeping ..literally all I had come in contact with.. made an impression... even the loudest voices in the waiting room were heard ... lol Thankfully not too long.. To me; It's obvious each of you love what you do and are very good at it, taking pride, care, concentration, conducting yourselfs in high regard and respect for others.. thank you for dedication to your profession. I really appreciate each and everyone of you who provided me with kindness and care from a simple good morning, how ya feeling, to cleaning up my mess, pocking me with needles, taking my temp, reading my results, wheeling me to different areas safely and not too fast for testing, giving me medication through IV and oral all hours of the night, insuring the lights were off and noise level was not to high, bringing food, water and ensuring the bed and table levels were acceptable and my room being clean and safe.. and so much more.. Last but not least ...of course applauding the rock stars Doctors, Nurses, Aides for your unwavering dedication to patient care (my care) your genuine concern and support means a lot to me. Thank you for going above and beyond to ensure my wellbeing.. and respecting my decisions whether or not you agreed.. Shout out by name to those I can recall.. I was scheduled for a kidney biopsy to be performed. Obviously, I wasn't really looking forward to the experience, but I knew it had to be done. From the moment I arrived I was treated with the utmost respect and compassion. The entire staff was truly incredible. From obtaining assistance from Jamie Chestnut at the beginning of this venture, to the very end, again with Jamie Chestnut assisting me to our car. Dr. Okon who performed the biopsy was very understanding. He knew I was a bit apprehensive, yet he explained everything in detail and his bedside manners are impeccable. Those who assisted him (David, Dan and another young lady) were equally assuring. They are a great team, and it was obvious that they knew their job. Equally as important was the fact that they performed together with assurance, confidence and professionalism. I had a concerning experience with Dr. Morris during an acute gynecologic issue involving both an ER visit and office follow-up. Dr. Morris was the on-call OB in the ER who advised that I would be given a follow-up appointment the next day. When I attempted to follow up as directed, no appointment had been arranged, and I had to advocate strongly just to be seen. In the office, staff told the waiting room that Dr. Morris would be unavailable for 35-45 minutes due to surgery, yet she became available within just a few minutes. This inconsistency was confusing and stressful. During the visit, I felt judged when sharing my medical history and lab values. After my husband mentioned that I am a therapist, Dr. Morris's demeanor noticeably changed and became more accommodating. While the interaction improved, the shift itself felt uncomfortable and raised concerns about bias in how patients are treated. I also experienced significant pain during a routine pelvic exam. When I asked why it had been so painful, I was told she did not know, and there was no acknowledgment or apology for the discomfort. Clear communication, continuity of care, and patient-centered interaction are especially important during acute medical situations. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. read more

I had a horrifying experience in April of 2024 here. I came for treatment for a neurological disorder that had become exacerbated, but was labeled psychotic, treated like I wasn't even a human being. I wasn't allowed to have visitors or make phone calls and there is no documentation in my records as to why my civil rights were revoked. It shouldn't matter if a person is truly psychotic or not, but staff here will treat you like a second class citizen if they believing you are a psychiatric patient. Staff would not allow my husband to visit with me and they never even told me he showed up. I was devastated because I thought my husband had abandoned me when I was in a neurological crisis. When I requested my medical records, they were filled with errors, and they falsely documented that my husband agreed to transfer me to a psych ward. As if my husband doesn't know my medical history. He would NEVER do that! Staff at Marshall documented that my rights to use the phone or have visitors were revoked. Whether you're on a 5150 hold or not, this is a violation of a person's Civil Rights and in violation of the Lanterman Petris Short Act (which BTW, the patient advocates and staff at Marshall told me they "never heard of the LPS Act", which is the law that governs 5150 Holds, and the law that California put into place in the 1960s TO END INDEFINITE HOSPITALIZATIONS AND CONSERVATORSHIPS and to make sure psychiatric patients did not have LESS RIGHTS THAN PRISONERS) My husband wrote Marshall a signed letter asking them to change the false documentation and false quotes in my records, but they wouldn't. El Dorado County Behavioral Health ended up correcting their false documentation in my records. But it wasn't without a fight. Psychiatric patients (and non-psychiatric patients) who are mistaken for psychiatric patients at Marshall are in real danger of losing their civil rights here and I don't say that lightly. Please, if you care about your loved ones and your own sanity, do NOT go here!!! read more

We had a great experience with the entire team, from the the people who do the pre testing to the nurses to the doctors. My husband and I have had a total hip replacement and we are happily recovering!!!! We both felt well cared for and the staff are wonderful and caring people. Worst hospital in California. I went after a back injury and they immediately started accusing me of being a drug seeker. It was one of the most embarrassing experiences of my life. This is NOT an isolated incident, I've heard about them doing this to others as well. I immediately left with nothing but shame. Shut this place down, it's that bad. Hot, freshly cooked, tasty food, for very little money. Just had breakfast here this morning, for less than $4. Tasty gravy, offered on biscuits, but I had it on tater tots, even better! Coffee was great, too. Friendly service, perfect willingness to customize food orders, very inexpensive, and very fast. Maybe you wouldn't think of a hospital cafeteria as a great place to eat, but I think this one qualifies. Food is only available to take out currently, due to Covid19 concerns, but that will likely change when the pandemic situation changes. read more

I recently went into Marshall by ambulance two days in a row. My blood oxygen was really low and I was feinting as a result. I ended up staying a week on my second trip down to the hospital. Everyone I met from Doctors to Nurses and even janitorial were all so kind and helpful to me. I engaged a few who made me laugh as well. They all knew their jobs and were good at it. It really takes special people to do the tough jobs these folks do, especially the Nurses. I was in some embarrassing situations a few times but they made me feel comfortable about it even though it was not a pleasant moment for me. I am grateful for those people who helped me get through it. I ended up getting a pacemaker and I'm hoping for better days ahead. The doctor did a fantastic job as well.
