This is the second time I've used Marshall Plumbing and Heating with the same continuing stellar service. The most recent service call was due to the water shut-off system for my townhome not working. After trying to get the shut-off valves to work, it was determined that they need to be replaced. This was not a surprise to me as they have not been used for a very long period of time, so are "frozen" in place. Blake explained in a very understandable way the steps that will need to be taken to fix the system. He also took the time to "teach me" actions to take to winterize the townhome and provided me with a great document for doing so. Being from the Bay Area, let's just say I needed some training. Blake's is a first class service provider. He is incredibly professional, straightforward, and transparent in explaining both what issues may or may not exist, as well as pricing for his services. We have used his services twice and both times have felt very comfortable with his explanations of the state of our furnace and approach to servicing it, and his prices are extremely reasonable. He will definitely continue to be our first call for heating and A/C services in the future. The one thing to know is that b/c Blake is so good, he is often booked up, so your best bet is to try to book his services preventatively or at the first hint of trouble, rather than for emergencies. We ended up losing heat unexpectedly on a weekend during a storm and had to call in another local provider b/c we couldn't get to Blake, and we got totally ripped off with service far inferior to his. I called Blake when we had a 'crisis' at our home in Northstar. It was August, a busy vacation time, when we discovered that rodents had settled into the duct system and done a lot of damage. We had renters coming in, and needed to get this resolved in order to fulfill that commitment. Our rental agent made at least five calls - non of them returned, and basically said "you're on your own". Fortunately the company who installed our heating system told us about Blake Marshall. Blake, too, was over booked. We were able to get a short term fix- good enough to get us through the rental commitment, after which Blake came in and did a proper remediation of the problem. I was incredibly appreciative, that Blake took the time to explain to me what the issues were - and what needed to be done to do the necessary repairs. He was the first/only person I'd talked to who took the time to help me understand what I have no knowledge of - HVAC systems - to the extent that I understood what needed to be done. Blake Marshall arrived as promised, studied the installation of our new, whole house Humidifier, and identified and corrected a couple of problems within 15 minutes of his arrival. Fast and reliable service with a smile. 1. Broken Water Heater (leak)- Showed up immediately after call. This was an emergency and he treated it as one. After about 5 min of looking at it he found the main issue and was off to ace to get the correct part. This issue was fixed within an hour and I have not had any issues to this day with it. Oh did I mention that he had another job going on at the same time but because this was an emergency, he came to me first. 2. Install new faucets on sinks- This was a little easier of a task but figure I would get it done right instead of possible messing this up myself. Again, fast and reliable service was the name of his game. He was there later that day after he had finished up laying gas lines at someones new house, and installed the faucets in the blink of an eye. Literally like 15 min. It actually kinda made me feel dumb because he mace it look so easy. But overall I am glad I had him do it. There are certain things that I definitely take for granted and turning on the water and expecting it to get hot is one of those things. I tried remedying the problem myself by relighting the pilot but the heater was having none of unskilled efforts. I called a plumbing supply place in Truckee and they gave me the contact number for Marshall's Plumbing. I called and spoke to Blake and he promised to get over the next day. While on the phone, he also explained the company's rates and how long he thought it might take. The next day, Blake arrived on time and got right to work. First, I have to say that Blake is great at explaining things in layperson's terms. Second, there were no surprises - he charged me exactly what he said he would over the phone. Lastly, when the pilot light went out about two hours after he left, he came back the next evening to make sure that everything was ok (this time I was actually able to relight the pilot myself). All in all, Blake's service is great, he knows his stuff, his prices and reasonable and transparent, and he stands behind his work 100%. I've known Blake Marshall for many years on a professional level. He was an engineer at a local 5-star resort we both worked at, and anytime we needed work done on our property, we would call the engineering department and hope they dispatched Blake to do the required work. There was plenty of talent in that department, but the reason we appreciated having Blake on the job was that it was crystal clear that he knew exactly what he was doing. Additionally he was always on time or early, efficient with his time, and detail oriented until the work was completed. Fast forward a few years and both of us have moved on from the resort we worked at together. I needed both HVAC and Plumbing work done at a property I was refurbishing down in Reno. I'd heard that Blake had founded Marshall Plumbing and gave him a call. He was able to schedule a time that was convenient for me, he arrived at the job site in Reno 15 minutes early, and wasted no time getting to work. He showed up with everything needed to complete the repairs I had scheduled, identified additional problem areas in my project, and had the parts on hand to complete those repairs as well. I feel very comfortable giving Marshall Plumbing a 5-star rating, as all of the work I have ever seen him do over the years is 5-star quality. I found Blake Marshall here on Yelp after a really negative and unpleasant phone experience with another plumber whom I'd found on Angie's List. My experience with Blake was the polar opposite. He couldn't have been more positive and pleasant. Our plumbing needs were not urgent; we set up his first available which was about a week out. His follow up is amazing and he was right on time. I needed two bathroom faucets replaced, a shower head replaced, a malfunctioning tub faucet replaced and a leaky outdoor spigot fixed. I'd been warned by a plumber years before that the tub faucet couldn't be fixed/replaced without tearing out the tile and getting behind the wall. The Angie's List guy also gave me a song and dance about that. Blake said that it would not be necessary to tear anything out to replace the faucet. He brought in tarps to protect the carpets and set to work with no warnings about all the problems that he might encounter. He just did it. All of it. Everything. Perfectly. He went over his very fair bill in detail and left the place immaculate. Great guy, very professional. As long as he is in business, I will never call another plumber again. read more
