As someone less familiar with the metro system here, I would have appreciated an information wall with maps, directions, or a schedule of the metro. There is also a parking garage next to it. However, the "free Marta parking garage" is very small, has maybe 50 spaces total. There is a pay to park garage as well, and thankfully it's not very expensive, we paid about $10 for our parking after a few hours.

Although MARTA is not as extensive as other urban cities like Boston, NYC or Chicago, it is easy to use and very affordable. A one way breeze pass is just $2.50 per trip with four transfers allowed in a 3 hour window. A day pass costs $9 or a $14 or $16 for a 2 or 3 day pass. Double check the schedule as there are limited hours on some lines during the weekend. Definitely schedule a visit to the MLK NHS on a trip to Atlanta and don't miss the Fire House. Note: Entry to buildings is still affected by COVID closures.

Ticket vending machines and turnstiles are there. At street level, they have a handful of free parking spaces. It's a very short walk from here to Sister Louisa's but it's on a busy street and you have to cross. It does not look like it's the best neighborhood, but like any big city, be aware of your surroundings.

Ashby station isn't the cleanest station but everything worked and flowed. And yes the station isn't in the best area, but it's definitely patrolled heavily.

This cuts out the $50 a day for hotel parking, the Doraville station has surface & parking deck areas, two nights was $16. Lenox station is cheaper FYI. I had only rode Marta one other time before this and it was over 10 years prior, I was mainly traveling solo on Marta this time. For the Doraville station be sure not to park in the front parking as this is NOT overnight and you will be towed. The ticketed parking is just beside with minimal security. Doraville is the gold line that goes into Lenox where the race starts; our stop was Peachtree center. The trick to going from Peachtree back to Lenox is to know that both red & gold run on same track, which I didn't. I got on the train saying North Springs and ended up at Medical Center before realized, rode back to Lindbergh then gold to Lenox. The train itself is minimally occupied unless a big event is going on. It was somewhat clean as meaning no visible trash. There are homeless persons all around the escalators underground and you may get accosted on the platform but just be smart. I put the Breeze mobile app on and bought 3 day pass for $16, my main issue was the QR code picking up on the scanner. Every time I dreaded it because would never scan on first, 2nd, maybe 3rd try if was lucky. Overall IMO, Marta is a deal at $2.50 to go all over the city pretty quickly. It can be a little sketchy at night but just be aware of surroundings.

But it's really nothing special. MARTA itself needs a lot of work and it's really outdated. The last time I was here, the elevator was broken so I had to carry hella luggage down the stairs and that was pretty disastrous. But it is what it is. If you're looking for affordable transportation to the airport and you don't wanna ask for a ride or can't find a ride, at least find a ride here so you can go from here.

So when we return to Atlanta and go into the Global Entry line. They have installed facial recognition software, so you stop in front of a camera and take off your glasses. Bing! The message come up to proceed to the Immigration officer who asks my name and waves me through. Total time: 30 seconds!!! We ony had carry on so walked through baggae claim to the exit where a CBP officer waved us through. Easy peasy. It could not have been quicker. Bravo to CBP and the Hartsfield-Jackson team. So why not five stars? ATL security people would not let us get on the plane train to the domestic terminal unless we had a connecting flight. They forced us to exit at the international terminal, where it takes a minimum of 10 minutes for an Uber since all Ubers wait in a holding area at the domestic terminal. So we took one of those nasty taxis lined up outside the international terminal. Dirty car. Smelled bad. Unhelpful driver. Hartsfield-Jackson --- y'all can do better than this. Boo!
