Great gem in Lexington! Had a very nice breakfast, coffee, and pistachio croissant to go. Place was packed with local walk-ins, what a delightful shop I'd probably stop in all the time if I was local. My only shocker was my 20 oz latte with 2 extra shots to make it 4 - cost me $8.95 + $2.95 = a $12 latte! I've been going here for years. The employees have always been kind. Recently, I dropped my wallet when I had to leave in a rush, and I spent days looking for it. When I called, they had already set my wallet aside and were willing to hold it safely until I could come get it. I had a $100 bill in my wallet when I left it (mechanic wanted to be paid in cash) and when I came to get it, my money was untouched and my cards were all there. I love this bakery read more

I'm torn on this one. The reviews had me rushing to try this spot out but I really wasn't impressed. I ordered a caramel chai tea, champagne cake slice, pistachio cake slice, peanut butter cookie, sprinkle cookie, and wedding cookies. The cake slices tasted like they had been frozen and were in thawing. I really don't like this. I let them thaw for 4 hours and the taste and moistness were still lacking. I've had better At Sam's club honestly. The sprinkle cookie was good as was the peanut butter. I don't need to go back for those as I can get similar elsewhere. There is parking on side of building. The seating downstairs is limited, however upstairs there is plenty of space for groups to get together. Maybe the real food items are better, but I doubt I'll be back to try anything else. Wow, this was a stellar find on a quick trip to lex. Our Airbnb was next door so we decided to try it and man we were not disappointed. Get a Mint Julep iced tea, the Kentucky quiche, and the ham jam. We also got a slice of strawberry champagne cake for later and it was delicious. We will definitely return! read more

Wow- First, I was not able to visit this bakery. I do have a friend that drove in that morning for her birthday and brought her own birthday cake (I had nothing to do with it, don't blame me). Anyhoo, we had a wonderful lunch with some friends and then cake time. She opened the box to this amazing chocolate cake with a wonderful rich and thick buttercream that tasted like heaven. The cake layers were soaked in something that kept them super moist. I do not know how to relate to how amazing this cake was other than to say, get one or at least visit the bakery if you are in the area of Lexington! I cannot comment on anything other than the product, but I had to comment because of the amazing cake (which I did not even buy for the birthday girl, which is another story). read more

The French onion soup was horrid. It tasted like water, but with a huge layer of oily fat throughout. We ordered salads with chicken and were told they would be topped with seasonal vegetables. The salads comprised of mixed lettuce, a healthy portion of chicken, tomatoes and a half filled sauce cup of dressing. I ordered it to go, so I didn't know this until I got home. The cake was very dry and the amount of raspberry filling between each layer was abysmal. Sometimes the saving day for me can be a good icing, too bad this one tasted almost exactly like eating a stick of unsalted butter. I have been wanting to eat here for so long! Finally made it in and I am regretting not coming sooner. I heard amazing things about this shop from the fb food groups and they did not lie! The selection of fresh made pastries and treats was overwhelmingly perfect! My daughter decided at the last minute she wanted a chocolate cake for her birthday and I hen I called Martine's they had cakes ready to buy without an advance order! So I rushed down there to grab one and also a chocolate croissant for the road. The cake was ABSOLUTELY delicious and worth the mere $32!! I highly recommend visiting Martines for any occasion. There is a small dining area available so you can eat there too! Tiramisu is out of this world! The staff is friendly, restaurant is clean, and there's plenty of space. I think this is the best bakery in the city. You can't rent their space, but they'll take care of your event food if you wish. read more

The local French bakery and cafe is a bit cramped, but does have an upstairs seating level for dining in. Their website promised waffle specials on Saturday, but I was a bit disappointed to find that there was only the basic waffle, as well as a couple of crepe options. The crepes I did get had a nice bit of candied orange in addition to some heavy cream, and delivered a subtle but satisfying flavor. A chai latte was likewise not punchy, but tasty. I didn't get any cakes, but I did see an interesting caramel cup kind of a thing; there weren't a ton of vegan options, but this was one and it was fantastic. I've also had their pistachio cake ice cream flavor at Crank and Boom. Compared to that, the bakery here is likely to be an occasional stop more than a regular addiction. read more

Martine's Pastries is the cutest little bakery, coffee, and lunch spot! They have a small parking lot (5-6 cars), but there is street parking in the neighborhood it's located in. I sat by one of the big windows to work a little bit while enjoying an iced macchiato and breakfast sandwich. The gentleman who took my order made some recommendations as this was my first time visiting Martine's! He sold me on the caramel macchiato which is made with *homemade* caramel sauce and it was lovely! Food-wise, I had the egg & scone sandwich which was delicious! I chose the bacon and cheese scone with a scrambled egg and it hit the spot. Somehow sweet and savory and salty all at once. This place was sooo cute! We were traveling through and I wanted a little area for breakfast. We got there about 11am. My fiancé got a salad and coffee , and I got a chocolate croissant, and a vanilla macaron. He liked his salad and it was very colorful as you can see. My croissant was VERY good and so was the macaron. So good that I went back up for a pistachio macaron, and then the next day before we left I got another croissant and vanilla macaron as well. I first was introduced to Marine's pistachio cake through Crank & Boom which sells an ice cream version. I purchased some of the cake to share with my family and friends. I have been enjoying the food here for about six years and want to move here, just so I can eat their goodies. While I like a good pastry/dessert, you typically won't find me making a special trip to indulge in them. So, while Martine's Pastries had been on my foodar for a couple of years, I hadn't driven downtown to try their goodies. Recently, however, while searching for carry out options, I realized that Martine's offers much more than sweets. In fact, they happen to carry a couple of my favorite savory options--French Onion Soup and Croque Monsieur sandwiches. Most everyone is familiar with French Onion Soup--a rich caramelized onion and beef broth soup. Typically, onion soup is served in heated ceramic bowl topped with bread and molten cheese, typically Gruyere or Swiss. For carry out, Martine's sends you home with cheese tartines (small cheese arts) on the side. This worked very well from a convenience standpoint. Along with the soup, I took home a couple of Croque Monsieur sandwiches. For the unfamiliar, a Croque Monsieur is an open-faced sandwich of bread with ham (in this case country ham), béchamel sauce, and Gruyere cheese. Delicious and very satisfying! In the spirit of pastries, I added a Tiramisu to my order, which rounded out an excellent lunch! When I visited, they were offering dine-in, pickup, and delivery options. Of course, dine-in is not available at the time of this review. So, you'll want to call ahead and see what options are available to you. read more

I literally live right across the street from Martine's, when they were behind Eastland Shopping Center I always wanted to go and never had the chance. Last night I had the chance, I took my two nieces as they've changed schools. It was a ore first day treat. We got there at 615, Debbie was nice enough to give each of the girls a bag of donuts to take home at no charge. As for me I had a shot of bourbon. Debbie also gave me a chocolate croissant which was sooo good. They talked to us at length and were in no rush to push us out the door. As for the bakery itself everything looks amazing! The store is stunning, I felt like a little kid in a candy store! I'll definitely be back over and over again! The bottom line is if you haven't gone yet you NEED to! Hit or miss items at exorbitant prices. The pistachio cake ice cream at crank & boom planted the seed for me to come here, and the C&B ice cream is a way better deal than any items here. Not a fan of the buttercream chocolate cake (way too sweet) or the brownies (s'mores or Nutella). The chocolate mousse was decent, but definitely not fresh. Wow. What can you even begin to say about Martine's? First, the owners are truly some of the most genuinely amazing people on earth! We have known them for years and their love for people shines through this business. We commissioned Martine & Crew to make a very special birthday cake, for an extraordinary girl turning 14 in the middle of Covid craziness ... so many of her birthdays have been stolen by hospital stays and surgeries, and now this entire year (since February) she has been basically locked in the house ... it's rough. So we planned a huge surprise birthday parade socially distant "party" and still her favorite thing was the cake. With good reason. Not only does everything this crew creates taste like a slice of heaven ... this cake was a visual masterpiece. My wife actually cried after we picked it up. This cake is so much more than a cake. It's a celebration of this beautiful young lady we have the privilege of calling our daughter. It's a symbol of the beautiful rainbow she is and all the fantastic ways she is changing the world. The pistachio cake is to die for omg!!!!!! I dream of it. You can buy by the slice, which I have done since I had it for a birthday, and freeze it. So good-- the icing is not too sweet which I hate sweet icing, and when it's cold it melts into your mouth. 10/10. read more

Her gluten free peanut butter cookie is also amazing and my mom's favorite. There is always an assortment of cookies, croissants, scones, and other things I'm surely forgetting. Everything is awesome. She also has a wonderful lunch menu with salads and sandwiches. I've tried a few of her special sandwiches and loved them all. Martine's is our go-to for all things celebrations! Martine's French buttercream isn't as sweet as American buttercream so it pairs so elegantly with a wide array of cake flavors. But my all time favorite is pistachio. While yes, I do love all things pistachio-flavored, my husband does not and even he said pistachio needed to make up the largest tier on our wedding cake because people would love it! Daggone I love this place. Every single thing we've tried has been awesome. We would seriously be here every morning if we could. The pastries are incredible. You cannot go wrong at all. And I'm no coffee expert, I just love a good coffee. But man. I think they have the best coffee, latte's, etc we've had anywhere. Really well made, the barista pays attention to what they're doing and actually seems to care about it. You can literally taste the difference. Walking in I saw the cakes here are gorgeous. Like who else offer slices of champagne cake to-go!? I got an orange cupcake with creamy frosting. Service was great and I enjoyed my mini-tour peering in the frigorifero to check out all the finished cakes. Before I know it, I'm out the door and back on my merry way. I took one bite and I nearly I puked from the frosting....I spit it out instantly. Soooo gross. I think it was the butter. Bad butter. And too much of it. Go to your fridge right now and pull out a stick of butter or the tub of country crock. Grab a spoon. Feed yourself. That's what it tastes like.This butter frosting wasn't creamed sweet at all. So I've had Martine's pastries before but I'd never been to her outlet. I did today and was a bit taken aback by the location... anyhow, the pastries were as usual, to die for... fresh n with just the right amount of sweetness.
