Good price, fast service, honest dealing. Fixed issue with rear drum brake, which only needed debris removed.

My friend attempted to deescalate the situation by changing the subject, and Jon appeared to calm down. However, a few hours later, Jon called me directly, demanding to know who my friend was. He accused him of taking photos of employees and the shop, which supposedly created an "issue." I explained that my friend was authorized by me to check on the car (which does not negate his contractual obligation to me nor pose harm to him) in my absence and that it was not illegal to take photos. Jon then claimed I was harassing them and said I could come pick up my car. By this time, my car had been in their possession for over two months. I explained that all I wanted was a working vehicle. He accused me of blackmail, claiming that Alabama is a "volunteer state" and that he was not obligated to do the work. I clarified I was not threatening legal action as a form of blackmail but rather as a last resort for them following through with their obligations--I simply wanted a resolution. He said he'd speak with Mike and call me the next day. That phone call left me shaken. I have never been treated this way by a business. I no longer feel safe going to their location alone. While there are other garages in the area, very few service foreign vehicles and accept extended warranties. Still, I will never use Ashley Garage again. Even if I have to tow my vehicle to another city or state, I will gladly do so.

My car began to malfunction, and trusting them, I brought it in. Before I even reached the counter, I overheard someone from the garage scream, "Here comes an opportunity." Red Flag. Once the diagnostic was done, I was told repairs would cost upwards of $10,000. I'm no mechanic, but I know manipulation when I see it. I asked for a print off of the required repairs and was told that "they don't do that". Feeling uneasy, I sought a second opinion. In the end, the repairs cost me $200. All I needed was a couple of hoses, and some spark plugs. It was crystal clear that Pep Boys was trying to take advantage of me. What's worse, I overheard a manager berating an employee for not "getting more" out of a customer. They didn't think I heard, but I did. On top of that, I was told by someone else that while they visited the shop they overheard a district manager discussing with their team how desperately they need to repair their customer relationships because so many people are coming forward about being swindled too. I'm sharing this to warn anyone considering Pep Boys, do not trust them. There are honest auto repair professionals out there. The people at Pep Boys, however are nothing but crooks. They do brakes and oil changes. That's it. They aren't mechanics. I learned from a former employee of theirs that the reason they charge so much for repairs that because they outsource the work to actual mechanics, then overcharge so they can get their profit. Let my experience be your cautionary tale. Don't trust them.

As I walked to the front of my car, I got down on one knee to ensure they had replaced all of my trim clips on my splash guard.( I did this because in time past they were not all replaced) As I bent over, I noticed oil pouring out from around my splash guard. I jumped up and ran to cut the car off. One of the techs looked over and asked, whats wrong? I told him my car is pouring oil out. Andrew was inside the building looking out, so I went in and explained to him what the problem was. At this time one of the techs got in the car and was going to start it to take it back in the shop, and the other tech yells at him. "Dont start that car up". Andrew went outside and had a dicussion with them and they pushed in back into the shop. Later he, andrew, came to me very apologetic and professional saying the oil filter was not tighten properly. I was frustrated, and dissapointed in what had just happened. I simply said, this could've been very bad if I had not looked under my car and drove off. He agreed and still apologetic. I told him its not your fault and I know you want things here done right. I hope this will serve to them as a learning tool to pay attention to detail. I will continue to take my car there because I trust them, however, I will contine to be very observant of what they are doing and check to see that job is done correctly. In all honesty, I should'nt have to.

I appreciate that roadside assistance is difficult and that drivers want to be safe. However, on…read moreI-565 near Huntsville, I observed one United Towing truck loaded with a disabled vehicle well off the shoulder with lights on, but a second United Towing truck was parked with the rear end extending into a live traffic lane during peak traffic. Under Alabama traffic laws (AL Code §§ 32-5A-136 & 32-5A-137), vehicles stopped on highways should be positioned off the traveled portion of the roadway so there is an unobstructed width for traffic to pass safely. Because the second truck encroached into the lane, it forced vehicles into other lanes and caused drivers to brake abruptly, creating a dangerous situation for motorists. This wasn't just inconvenient--it was unsafe. I support tow operators and the services they provide, but proper placement and awareness are critical for safety. I hope United Towing reviews this incident with their team and emphasizes positioning vehicles completely off the roadway when possible. Forcing drivers to change lanes abruptly, rather than having the option to slow down, almost caused a five car pile up with me right in the middle of it. Do I support saftey of tow truck drivers? Yes. At the extent of violating the law and placing others in danger? No. The tow truck obstructing the lane was unnecessary in this particular case and was very unsafe. Please explain to your drivers that not all situations require a lane to be obstructed for the safety of your drivers, especially when it places others in harms way. Thank you. Reference: Alabama's "Move Over Act" (Section 32-5A-58.2) requires drivers to vacate the lane closest to vehicles stopped on the shoulder displaying lights (including wreckers/tow trucks) or slow down if changing lanes isn't safe. Under Alabama Code § 32-5A-136 and § 32-5A-137, a vehicle may not be stopped, standing, or parked on the traveled portion of a highway when it's practicable to stop off the roadway, and when stopped there an unobstructed width of the roadway must be left for free passage of other vehicles with clear visibility.
