I've been a loyal customer of Pep Boys for years, but after my last experience, I'll never set foot in any of their shops again. My car began to malfunction, and trusting them, I brought it in. Before I even reached the counter, I overheard someone from the garage scream, "Here comes an opportunity." Red Flag. Once the diagnostic was done, I was told repairs would cost upwards of $10,000. I'm no mechanic, but I know manipulation when I see it. I asked for a print off of the required repairs and was told that "they don't do that". Feeling uneasy, I sought a second opinion. In the end, the repairs cost me $200. All I needed was a couple of hoses, and some spark plugs. It was crystal clear that Pep Boys was trying to take advantage of me. What's worse, I overheard a manager berating an employee for not "getting more" out of a customer. They didn't think I heard, but I did. On top of that, I was told by someone else that while they visited the shop they overheard a district manager discussing with their team how desperately they need to repair their customer relationships because so many people are coming forward about being swindled too. I'm sharing this to warn anyone considering Pep Boys, do not trust them. There are honest auto repair professionals out there. The people at Pep Boys, however are nothing but crooks. They do brakes and oil changes. That's it. They aren't mechanics. I learned from a former employee of theirs that the reason they charge so much for repairs that because they outsource the work to actual mechanics, then overcharge so they can get their profit. I took my car in for a schelduled oil change this morning. After my oil was change, they drove my car to the front of the store as usual for the customer. As I walked to the front of my car, I got down on one knee to ensure they had replaced all of my trim clips on my splash guard.( I did this because in time past they were not all replaced) As I bent over, I noticed oil pouring out from around my splash guard. I jumped up and ran to cut the car off. One of the techs looked over and asked, whats wrong? I told him my car is pouring oil out. Andrew was inside the building looking out, so I went in and explained to him what the problem was. At this time one of the techs got in the car and was going to start it to take it back in the shop, and the other tech yells at him. "Dont start that car up". Andrew went outside and had a dicussion with them and they pushed in back into the shop. Later he, andrew, came to me very apologetic and professional saying the oil filter was not tighten properly. I was frustrated, and dissapointed in what had just happened. I simply said, this could've been very bad if I had not looked under my car and drove off. He agreed and still apologetic. I told him its not your fault and I know you want things here done right. I hope this will serve to them as a learning tool to pay attention to detail. I will continue to take my car there because I trust them, however, I will contine to be very observant of what they are doing and check to see that job is done correctly. I've used this PepBoys on three occasions. The first time I went to them about a water pump replacement I was told I needed only to have PepBoys discover I only had a leaky hose. After going to them for a routine oil change they showed me that I needed a new turbo boost . They worked with me to save as much money as possible. I trust Mike and Jeremy who were honest and up front about the cost and their ability to complete the job. The technician was just as approachable. read more

This company is straight trash. I had several friends tell me not to use them but I didn't listen. They had my car 7 months and never repaired it now they have impounded it without my knowledge but the company that has it doesn't have any information on the vehicle. I received a letter from the state saying my vehicle would be auctioned off. Pep boys will never be on my list of places to go they even sent a text saying my car was ready I get there and they say it was a mistake. Who runs this company in Madison,AL their customer service sucks. There was a female there when I first went there and she transferred to another store and I see why if she had to deal with this bunch. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IT'S A RIP-OFF. I went to a " specialty " local VW/Audi shop that overfilled my crankcase with overpriced Amsoil ( I run Rotella synthetic in my 335,000 mile high performance Jetta TDI. ) I was worried about it being overfilled because I'm going on a cross country trip and overfilling can do unknown damage to your engine by seeping and leaking into places not intended to be lubricated or burned off. I called from an Oil Express place ( that was ignoring me) and talked to a very nice young lady named Ashton. She actually listened and told me I could bring it in. So I did, and within 10 minutes a nice gentleman drained ( or sucked out) at least a half quart of the very expen$ive racing oil. ( It takes about 4.4 quarts and the specialty shop put in 5.0 plus any residual in the engine. ) This small gesture was so appreciated and went a long way because i have 3 vehicles including a late model BMW X5 《diesel》 and classic 82 Jeep CJ7 and will put them at the top of the list on the future. Thank you so much Pep Boys and it's so nice to see hard, attentive workers who do work with a smile and actually show up to work unlike so many other places using " covid" as the socially acceptable excuse. read more

I had a slow leak in my tire. Brought it to this location they got me right in and let me know I ran over a bolt. They patched it up quickly while I waited and sent me on my way. They were friendly and kind to a recent California transplant. I will definitely be taking my car to them in the future! read more

Was in the area on a Saturday night and had a flat tire. Began calling around and this tire store picked up the phone after hours. An employee met us at our location on his own time to help us. Don't know what we would have done without them! read more

With a screw in my tire and losing pressure quickly, I stopped by Pep Boys. Within a few minutes they had the truck on the rack and the problem identified. Fantastic service. After having a bad experience trying to get NTB across the street to replace a air valve in a tire (see review), I went to this Pep Boys and they replaced the value in about 5 minutes and didn't charge me a thing. I'll be buying my tires here from now on. read more

After posting got this very nice message from Pep Boys: "Thank you for your E-mail and we apologize for your inconveniences. Please provide a contact number to reach you and the Store Information so we can provide resolution." Not wanting to give them my information I asked for a number to call and talk to them at my convenience. This was thier response: "If you wish to file a complaint over the phone please call our customer relations office at 1-800-737-2697" Serioiosly? They had wanted to contact me, I never said I wanted to file a formal complaint. At least I know that Pep Boys customer service culture starts at the top. read more

I recently went and had my car looked at by Pep Boys, after they took a look at the issue that was going on they priced out all the parts to about $2700. I thought that sounded outrageous so I took my car to the dealership where they specifically look at my type of vehicle all the time. The dealership did a diagnostic and found everything that was wrong with my vehicle and the parts were priced out at $680! I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING HERE! PLEASE GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC DONE. You don't have to get your car fixed at the dealership but take it somewhere where you can trust the mechanics. Pep Boys was trying to get my money. So sad to take advantage of people, it is tough enough out there already with money and maintenance on vehicles. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! read more
