Love Naomi for color and Jim for cut so I followed them both here. The salon is beautiful and so nice. My only gripe is they don't have an online booking system which sucks when you need to book an appointment while multi tasking, but I guess keeping it old school and calling is okay. I just wish they could modernize and do online appointments so I could integrate it into my calendar.... Would make things so much easier. I'll get over it because Naomi and Jim more than make up for it! Everyone is super nice and the drying area is a nice touch. Love the parking and they validate (bonus) and it's nice to be so close to equinox and soul cycle... not that I go to either but it's nice if you go. The crowd here is cool. Very cool. Jeremiah Samuel is one of the finest stylists I have had the pleasure of having do my hair, for over 10 years now. He listens to my ideas, my desired outcome, and boom! He delivers what I want every time. If we need to tweek the cut, a bit here and there at the end, he's happy to perfect the cut and make adjustments. We communicate well, and he's an easy going guy, with great technique and skill. I'm always 100% happy with the finished cut. Always. Barbara Farnworth, WOW! I have been a "blonde" client of hers for over 20 years! I utilize her talents doing blonde color and highlights. We rarely discuss what I am wanting, with the exception of, "this time let's go very blonde"..or.. "this time let's do it a bit more caramel-blonde, a little darker". Barbara knows what looks good with my base hair color, (which is usually dishwater blonde or a little lighter), and she uses that knowledge to give me the ultimate balanced, yet messy, Cali beach blonde highlights. I NEVER have to question her, I just sit down in her chair and let her work her talents. My only complaint: she relaxes me too much when applying the color, I almost always fall asleep. I always get relaxed when anyone plays with my hair. I guess that's really MY problem, and not theirs! I highly recommend Martinez-Samuel Salon, especially Jeremiah Samuel for a killer cut, style, blowout... And if you are a loyal blonde hair baby like me, or any color, trust Barbara Farnworth with your color or highlights. She's deeply knowledgable in particular with blondes. One area for improvement, is that they could more consistently stock and carry products that they sell. Often they are out of what I need. They can sometimes order it, other times not, it's confusing and frustrating. I wish they'd focus on better quality control with the hair products they do sell, so that they are always in stock. Excellent and Friendly Salon! Damien has been my hair guy for 10+ years and I followed him to Martinez-Samuel Salon. Even though I only came to this salon for Damien, it's definitely a great place to get your hair did. The interior is nicely set up and organized, and everyone who works here is super friendly. In particular, Jeff Martinez (one of the owners) is very warm and outgoing and he always makes an effort to say hello and check in on me when I'm there even though I'm not one of his direct clients. Parking here is also pretty convenient -- you can park in their building garage and the salon will then validate. I had a gift certificate from one of those SWAG bags that you get at celeb events...and I needed a great cut...enter Tasia, a fantastic stylist and overall interesting person. This salon is located past the cafe, to the right and below the gym (lots of cute hard bodies roaming around). Tasia took her time (an hour and a half total) trimming off all of my damaged ends. She did exactly what I asked for- very long layers with an inch off the bottom. The blow dry styling that followed was beautiful and lasted for days. The salon itself is loud, but has some welcoming elements. Cookies and iced tea in the back. The changing room is by far the largest and prettiest I've ever seen- usually these are closet-like, but this one was in muted peach tones and comfy. A really good experience! read more

She is not only super chill and fun to get your hair done with, but she has done my hair the best by far then anyone else. I had my hair color done by Barbara and I must say she is absolutely amazing. I knew I needed a change but wasn't exactly sure what. He is a really good hair stylest. Very friendly and talkative Jeffrey made me feel very comfortable when i first walk in his beauty salon for a blow dry appointment. I have a long hair and i paid $ 50 bucks for a blow dry- not bad at all. The Lady the washed my hair also gave me a neck massage that was great. Been a brunette i have no need to color my hair so i can't judge him in that aspect , but i saw a lot of Blondie girls having their hair done with him, so he must be good in that too. My guy friend had a roots done and paid $160, for it. Well i am going back to get my hair done with Jeffrey pretty soon. read more

I'd just returned from a 2-week trip to Europe and had been itching for a change. In London, I'd debated bleaching my naturally jet-black hair so I could get some red in it but decided against it. Instead, I got a haircut (more like a trim since I'd wanted to keep the length to grow it out) and paid about USD200 for it. Ridiculous, i know, but it was a high-end place in London. My bad. Anyhows, I hated the cut, I'd wanted layers and she'd given be a blunt cut and there was no volume whatsoever. So i get back to L.A. and decided to cheat on my usual hairstylist just because. He'll always be the love of my life but i wanted a change. A new place, a new environment, a new perspective. So I call Jeffrey Kara and asked if i'd needed an appointment to go in and get a consult and possible cut and color and the lady i spoke to said no, just come on in. So i drove 1 1/2 hours in traffic from La Crescenta to get to West Hollywood and they were busy and almost couldn't fit me in. But then Jeremiah gave me a consult and worked with Trina the colorist to fit me in so i wouldn't have to drive all the way back there again. And let me tell u, i wanted layers, Jeremiah gave me layers. Jeremiah, as far as I'm concerned, is a layering god. I am so in love with my haircut, i could've cried. I was just blown away. OMG i haven't had a haircut I love this much in forever!!!! Why is it that when i say layer my hair, they never really do it?!?!??! Oh thank you, Jeremiah, for that haircut. I will be back!!! So on to Trina. Honestly, no one has ever been able to convince me to bleach my hair. 28 years I've wanted to change my hair color and do something different and then hated the fact that the color never comes out coz my jet black asian hair is so freaking impenetrable. What made me do it? Trina's extensive knowledge and expertise on color. She was patient and cautious and so awesome at answering all my questions and addressing all my concerns. We started out with baby steps and now I can't wait to go back and put more color in. And my fear that my hair was gonna fall out and look dry and awful? Unfounded. My hair is textured, isn't so limp and flat, it's got beautiful highlights and soft to the touch. The Asian male receptionist is also too cool for school. So kind and polite. I have been a client of Barbara's and Olivier's for a long while. Barbara is quite honestly the best colorist in LA (and I have been to many and had may colors to boot). Her area of true genius is highlights. I always receive compliments regarding my hair. Whether you are looking to funk up your hair or going for a more conservative look, she's the best. She will be honest about what will look good on you and offer great suggestions that you may not have thought of. Either way, you'll leave happy and your peers will envy your beautiful hair. In my entire history of receiving haircuts, I have never had more detailed and brilliant stylist than Olivier. I have curly hair and, believe me, people need to know how to cut curly hair before I even let them touch my hair. Oliver is quite meticulous with his cuts and I feel so polished after the cut. His cuts are so amazing, that you don't need to get another cut for quite a while; the cut will hold without having to get it touched up as frequently as you might with other less experienced stylists. Getting a cut from him is pure heaven. I highly recommend both Barbara and Oliver from this salon. You will have the best hair in the West. read more

Let me just start by saying that I hate writing this review...but I contacted the salon directly to try to avoid leaving a negative review and never received a response. So, this review is for the salon and not Anastasi, who did try to work with me. Unfortunately, I was just never was able to get the product that I paid money for. I spent $370 - when all said and done on coloring my hair here. That's because the first time that I came in to get highlights, I spent three hours in the salon and left with two-tone hair. The bottom was a lovely shade of blonde and the top literally looked almost the exact same as when I had walked in - dark roots but now with some brassy highlights. Given the fact that I went in advance of a very special event in my life, I decided to email Anastasi and let her know that I wasn't happy with the result. She was lovely and allowed me to come back in to remedy the situation. The second time that I went in, the highlights were definitely better in terms of evenness but still brassy/ orange-y. Unfortunately, I just didn't have any more time to get it to where I wanted it. Plus, my hair was already over processed. Now, one week later, the highlights are 100% brassy /orange-y. Exactly what I said I wanted to avoid when I originally went in. All that to say, I'm now going to have to spend another chunk of money to get my color fixed since I'm too embarrassed to walk around with orange hair for the next few months :( read more

My hair is very difficult to work with and I walked out of the salon feeling and looking great. I so appreciated all of the extra time he spent working on getting the cut right. I got my hair cut there this morning and want to go back already. The place is beautiful, clean and in a great location. Everyone was adorable and great at what they do (from the lady at the front desk to Rosa at the wash station to Jeffrey - who cut my hair). Jeffrey was pretty quick with the cut and he did exactly what I wanted. He did not cut too much or too little. He had suggestions but did not go through with them unless I agreed.
