Either he has great intuition or his years of skill and trained eye was able to punch biopsy a premalignant lesion from no obvious signs of a cancerous lesion. His biopsy was so precise that even with follow up cervical cone excision there were no noted changes at any margin of the specimen. protect this man at all costs! read more

I was there for my annual examination for signs of agent orange. My Doctor was new to me. She seemed rushed. She did not go over my lab tests until I asked her about them, and then she seemed very concerned about what the accuracy of the medications I was taking. She did not check my Lungs, heart rate, ears or eyes like my previous doctor did. She did provide me a copy of my lab results which were printed so small and light that they are hard to read. I received a more legible copy in the mail. It is apparent that the Veterans do not seek quality in their selections of doctors and each Doctor has limited pateint time. I checked each Doctor I have been assigned on-line and neither one of then hav good comments. read more

She does the scheduling for Appointments and she was very rude to me. She wouldn't give me her name at first and I thought it's really rude on her part to treat a Veteran as badly as she did. I came here for another checkup. It was easy to find parking. I essentially had no wait time because of my scheduled appointment. I was able to talk to my primary care doctor, and even get help from the pharmacy. The medical staff that helped me were very nice. I was even able to schedule another check up in the future. I had a bad experience coming here my first time. This visit made me change my mind and I was very pleased with the facility and the staff I worked with. read more

This place is so amazing. My dad is currently a patient here and he looks HEALTHY and HAPPY. Almost like he is in a resort. He made friends fast. He definitely didn't look happy and healthy at Memorial Hospital in Modesto or the VA hospital in Mathers. Both these hospitals didn't do anything for him. They just sent him home and did not fix his issues. Here at the VA hospital in Martinez , they care about their patients. This includes the nursing staff down to the housekeepers. They have a pool table, dining area for the patients and visitors. Plus we watched the football game while having lunch with my dad. Everyone here is amazing. Puts a big smile on my face and heart to see my dad happy. read more

This VA is where I go to for primary care. It's the closest one near my house. I don't know how the service is at other VA hospitals but this one is mediocre. At times the customer service over the phone go above and beyond but more times it's very frustrating. I don't know what's going on with the scheduling but there are times I've showed up at the clinic and they've said I canceled my appointment. What?!? That's not even true. Anyways, then when you come to the clinic, they always tell you to come early, but they never get you in on time even when you come early. Then when you're fives or 10 minutes late they won't accept you. And then some of the front desk staff are not very welcoming. People are already not feeling good we don't need to come to a grouchy staff member. On the plus side: I love my doctors and specialty care staff. They're the best. I've been dealing with the VA since I was advised to put in a medical claim upon release from service in 1967. For the most part I've felt that this is a place to be avoided with at best indifferent "care". I still pay for private medical care but have used the VA for service related and what would be expensive care. I must say that in recent years the quality of their care has been transformed! I'm currently having medical care that I believe is at least as good as I'd be getting at my highly rated provider. It's also a considerable change to deal with VA caregivers who clearly actually give a damn about helping a worn out veteran, and believe me this wasn't the case in the past. I am deeply concerned that the VA will change with our new administration. I know that the VA is on the chopping block in order to save money and our new president just dismissed the V.A. Inspector General! This is alarming. I'm on the IG's mailing list and get quarterly updates about efforts to eliminate waste and fraud. WHY would such a good IG be fired? What will become of the VA? All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't drop my private health care as it looks like a dark cloud is blowing. For the moment I very much appreciate the VHA and hope it will be there for future veterans who will need this type of care. read more

Best visit EVER, I can't believe how fast and thorough they are here. Dr. Phukett took his time to check my eyes, but this by far was the most pleasant visit I ever had at an Optometry office. The doc was super friendly and you can tell he's been doing this for awhile and tells you if there's something he's concerned about and checks it to make sure it's nothing bad. The wait time when I came in was less than 10 minutes. My appt was at 1pm, I came in, got my eyes checked, ordered new glasses and was out around 1:30 pm. read more

This is the worst medical care I have ever experienced in six countries and multiple US states. The VA has worsened my health and failed to properly refer me in a timely way for breast cancer diagnosis or post-surgery followup. Congress needs to dismantle the VA health "care" system. Anything is better than this. Tax payer dollars should not be used by a failing organization that would rather let veterans die than to efficiently and effectively help them. read more

You hear about all the negative claims against the Veterans Administration - and in some parts of the country the VA continues to have issues. The VA is broken up into three areas: Veteran Benefits Administration - Veteran Health Care - & VA Cemeteries. The VA Health Care Medical Centers previously had all kinds of issues when I returned from VietNam - but change is constant - it has changed & continues to improve services & care for Veterans. VA Health Care System in the Bay Area is divided into different areas/divisions - 1] San Francisco/Oakland - 2] Palo Alto/Livermore & 3] Northern California = Martinez / Sacramento. With years of continued improvement - we are fortunate in the San Francisco East Bay Area having VA Health Care System providing medical & mental health services to our Veterans. I have received medical treatment at all three of the bay area health care divisions. I use the VA Outpatient Clinic in Martinez which is top-notch and provides excellent health care services in a wide range of specialties. As with any service business - you are only as good as the staff you have hired-trained & is operating that facility. Same as other medical facilities businesses - finding qualified professionals to hire in some health care specialty areas is challenging and can reflect on & delay obtaining timely appointment date. I personally utilize the Martinez clinic & enrolled in most all the specialty clinics - through my primary care doctor providing a specialty clinic consult. All my Rx prescriptions come from the VA with excellent tracking - monitoring & mailing of all medications. I also use their Mental Health facility in Martinez, in addition to the medical health care clinic, including physical therapy, rehab & occupational therapy. I will admit the parking can be extremely challenging on some days & specific times. Once at the VA clinic have rarely had to wait extended period [less than 10 minutes] for a scheduled appointment. I use the new VA APPS on my mobile devises and contact the "VA Advise Nurse" on the phone for questions & review medical issues in advance prior to making the trip to the Martinez VA. In the past, the Advice Nurse advised me to call 911 & go directly to the nearest emergency room for treatment and the VA covered the cost for S/C emergency situations. My suggestion, if you are planning to enroll in any VA program such as Health Care - before you enroll... visit the Contra Costa County Veterans Service Office in Martinez to receive your Veteran's Benefit Check-Up and assistance with any VA paperwork / enrollment / registration... they are professional advocates for all Veterans, and it is FREE. Bottom-line... I do not believe I would be alive today if it were not for the professional care received by the VA read more

I've been to this VA with my boyfriend on several occasions and I can say that he is given excellent treatment all around from the time we enter the building until we leave the building. There is a big difference in the staffing (nurses/aides/etc) in civilian and Vet services. ...to put it bluntly, the VA don't allow the staff to treat their vets like crap...it they do, they're outty. I am a veteran of the vietnam war, 66-69, I went here for hearing aids. The second pair because I lost one of the other ones, this time they gave me rechargeable ones and told me that the warranty to replace them was for 3 years, not 5 like I thought. They seemed like they were very interested in me as a veteran. Dr. Jacob told me that anytime I had an appointment with her that I could get anything I needed. I have been tested for Hepititus C and now I have MG, so I could get my prescriptions cheaper through the VA Pharmacy, so I don't know what the heck Rich J. is talking about. read more

The Martinez VA Medical Center Outpatient Clinic is wonderful. If you're a Veteran looking for health care please, please, please visit the center and get into its system. I had heard horrible things about the VA and thought it was not what I was looking for, but (a really big "BUT") the Martinez VA Medical Center was not what I expected; it was so so much better. In fact it has been perfect from my experience. The people working there, without exception, have been professional, courteous, helpful, and friendly. From my Internist to the man who greets Veterans in the Behavioral Therapy building, every person I've come in contact with has helped me in every way I could ask for. And there is WiFi and lots of parking The lot across the street is not just for the staff. The negative reviews I've read on Yelp do not, in MY experience, describe, in any way, the facility, the people, the services or any aspect of this wonderful resource for veterans. I originally checked it out to see if maybe I could save some money on my medications (I'm a 74 year old cancer and stroke survivor), and I have saved a great deal of money by because of the Martinez Veterans Out Patient Clinic, AND I'm now getting free medical services as good as I ever received anywhere. I am a Kaiser member, and I love Kaiser, but at the Martinez VA there are no limits, no copay, much less cost of medications. Anywhere else there would be limits on, for example, how many Physical Therapy appointments you can have, but there are no limits at the Martinez VA. If you are a veteran, check with Building 19 reception (the only place I've ever waited and that was only once) to find out what Veterans Benefits you are eligible for. This Veteran's Medical Center is vastly superior to all the negative reviews we read in the news. Attentio to the Vets is superir to even well respected civilian hospitals in the area. Their motto is, "We are happy to serve you because you served us so well." Vets are treated to coffee and doughnuts in the morning and great tasting inexpensive meals and fare in the cafeteria with an outdoors BBQ every Tuesday and Thursday. Services include primary care, Urgent walk in Care, Audiology, Radiology, ENT, full Labratory Services, Pharmacy, MRI, Orthopedics, Disability Application, Optical and Glasses, Physical Theraphy and Rehab, Brain Trauma and PTSD help and more. A Veteranerian Van from Tony LaRussa's ARF organization come twice a month to provide veterinary services to Vet's pets, free of charge. Flu shots are dipensed at a drive thru operation every year free of charge to Vets and spouses. Other healthy living programs are also available as well as different wellness clinics. Every Vet should register and take advantage of its great services and care! read more

For the most part I'm pretty satisfied with the care I receive here. I mean it can always be better, due to the fact that some veterans wAit a few hours to receive care. The bad part is that there is only urgent care and if we need to go to emergency it's all the Sacramento. That's Northern health care system. They say you can go to TRAVIS, but really not every Veteran is 100% SC, It can post problem. But even if you go to an outside emergency room, you still get charged, The VA never pays and it ends up on your credit report. I speak from experience. Other wise OK read more

After reading several reviews here, this will be a different review, I can tell you this right off the bat. The Martinez VA Hospital is probably one of the busiest places in town. As we have had several (non)-wars, recently, there are no shortage of Veterans, in fact, I would venture to guess, from the looks of the Martinez VA Clinic, the US Veteran population is booming. Get there early, like plenty early. I arrived 30 minutes early with my Veteran Dad and parking was completely (completely) sold out! There is a substantial parking lot attached to the VA campus, but there was not a parking space to be found! After two turns in the parking lot, we ended up in the employee parking lot directly across the street (and if you wait long enough, eventually a lady in a golf cart shows up to shuttle you across the street!). It was a glorious blue-sky day after a rainy week, so we footed-it the 5-minute walk (or so) to the clinic area of the hospital. I have to say, once in the clinic, being in the company of all those Veterans made me want to stand up a little straighter and walk a little taller... these men and women are sort of the backbone of our country and boy, there were a lot of them! After making our way upstairs to the department where my Dad had an appointment, we were presented with another lobby full of Veterans and a receptionist on the phone with no end in sight of her finishing her call and attending to us. Over to the side, I noticed an iPad on a pole where you could "virtually" check yourself in... how high-tech! I have to admit, I was not entirely comfortable punching my Dad's social security number into an iPad in a busy medical lobby, but after doing that and verifying some other information, we were promptly called into the office after a short (maybe 5) minute wait. Our medical professional was competent, fast and efficient, while checking my Dad's issues and cheerfully helped us make our way through the system. In the end, she declared my Dad was doing okay and gave us her card so we could call her directly for our next "check-in". Apparently, the procedure that you gets you in and gets things done at this clinic changes frequently, so it was nice to have a lifeline to call. All n' all, I am very impressed with the service received at the clinic, however, I think they need help. It would be nice to have some sort of representative and/or volunteer to help Vets navigate this system. It is not very clear what to do upon walking in and if you haven't been there before (and after serving in the military, no less) it can be very overwhelming with all the people and, well, business going on (it was like a busy city in there!). I can't help think of those greeters at Wall Mart, or those volunteers at local hospitals...I think that would be helpful for this clinic to have greeters like that to help Vets navigate the system. It's not even easy for non-vets to navigate a hospital setting! Most important, here, is what the actual Veteran thought - My Dad was not as impressed with the "virtual check-in" as I was (call him skeptical) but he thought his appointment ran smoothly and his medical professional conducted herself in a way that was smart and helpful to his needs Anyway, for my tax dollars, I was impressed with the overall care my Dad received. I appreciate the VA and I am grateful for the aid our military receives. read more
