I hadn't been here in years and glad I came back around. The bartender and regulars were very welcoming. The prices here are real nice. The selection I would say is not huge but decent for a smaller place. There were plenty of different whiskeys and tequilas and just about every Deep Eddy's flavors. Seems like mostly rock and country here on the jukebox so that's very cool. I walked into "highway to the dangerzone" on blast. A gent next to me was chowing on some wings that looked pretty good.The regulars were talking about some convicts that had escaped. Interesting conversation here.I enjoyed the music, convo, and vibes for sure. Also, they are dog friendly which is a huge plus in my book. I got a chance to meet the owner and she was super friendly.I will definitely come back and try some wings for dinner sometime. 27 Nov 2024 We went today about 3:00pm. Uber'd over. Not too many people, but the bar was full, so we sat at a table until someone left. Meanwhile, Howard went up and got us drinks. After a while the bartender Velvet (we learned her name later), would come out and ask if we needed anything. This is a rarity. Usually, we have to go to the bar to order so this was much appreciated. After about half an hour, we were able to move to the bar. Turns out Velvet is good friends with the owner and helps her out periodically in an emergency. As she was doing today. Her main job is with My Bar at Callaghan and 410. Velvet is very personable and efficiency. She will cut you off if she sees you are going overboard. Awesome. Erin, you are lucky to have such a friend to help you out. See you next time. read more

never again! gotta say we were there for aunt toni's birthday gathering, like 30 of us. we have frequented this venue for many years and special occasions. however, tonight we were treated horribly! the tender kept apologizing for the owners racist mistreatment of our group. never had i experienced such racism like tonight! the owner yelled at us to get the f out because,as a brown and proud person, some of the group was dressed as cholos representing who we are. we spent $ and respected everyone in the establishment and the owner, a karen, was at her best! needless to say, never again! read more

This is just a nice, solid place to stop in before or after doing the airport thing for a really cold beer. It is very much a neighborhood vibe, but very welcoming to first-timers popping in...you feel like you've been there before. The staff is so engaging and friendly. Place is definitely a dive bar. Bar top wasn't regularly cleaned from what I could see and fruit fly cups on all liquor bottles. Came in for a quick drink in mid afternoon. Their happy hour was 50 cents off bottled beer. Bartender served me but after that it was as if I wasn't there anymore. The bartender clearly tends to the regulars and checks in on them. Didn't check in on me once after the transaction. Sad because I was excited to see what the bar had to offer as I saw it driving home all of the time. Not much at this time of day. 2 stars because my experience was bad but maybe night time hours are better. Otherwise I'd do 1 star so giving the benefit of the doubt. read more

I gave this place 1 star because I can't give them 0. I went in today and spoke with a lively bartender who despite her lack of education decided to speak out about her political and racist opinions to patrons today. One comment "I built a wall. See it here. (referring to the paper wall motif, with the words 'wall' written on it) I even put little 'homies' behind it." (Homies def: small little Mexican figurines you find in quarter vending machines). I politely told her she herself could build the wall in California and make about $60 and hour. Much more money than she's making at Marty's. She laughed, I didn't and she kept on going.... Next comment: "I watched the MTV awards last night. There were a lot of blacks." Very observant of her. Not sure why she felt she had to bring our attention to it, but she did any way. I think she felt it was her duty to let us know. She trickled on about the award show and how she thinks it's unfair that "blacks" can say whatever they want but not "whites". She mentioned shes tired of holding her tongue and she's going to say what she wants when she wants. Point taken....I get it....I'm out. Not sure what sparked her outrage or need to voice her opinion at work that Tuesday afternoon, maybe Fox news that was playing in the background. Who knows. She was rash and unwelcoming and needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

This is T.J., The Urban Treasure Hunter. Last night we went to Marty's while bar hopping and I really would have loved to stay there all night. Kathy, the owner, is one hell of an awesome woman and her daughter is an awesome bartender. Big John runs the karaoke there and his system sounds probably the best I've ever heard! He's a great KJ, willing to do almost anything to accommodate the patrons. We felt very welcomed and the atmosphere was very cozy. One thing I can promise you is we'll be back! This place rocks! This bar is awesome!! It's a great home bar and the karaoke and staff are amazing! We love Erlene, she makes the best margaritas in town!

This, along with The LOL Open Mic and the Blind Tiger, are the three best spots to go see local comedy. Watch for what's called a "showcase" or "Show" as compared to simply an open mic. An open mic will allow pretty much anyone on stage for a certain amount of time, but a show or showcase has screened the comics coming up on stage so in theory, the comics should be of higher skill. This place has a show the first Saturday of every month for free, seating at 8, show starts at 8:30. The person who runs it is Joan Riviera, a highly skilled comic who does a take off of classic Joan Rivers and is heavily involved in the comedy scene here and throughout Texas. The place is cool, kind of a country flavor and an older crowd. They have karaoke after the comedy show and the folks I've heard go up on stage have been very good. This is a pretty cool little spot to hit, would be a good place to watch a game too, don't think they serve food though. read more

Do not come here for karaoke. The idiot KJ either doesn't know how to control the levels on his equipment or just has crappy equipment. At one point he actually had to interrupt a singer mid-song in order to switch mics due to speaker crackling (which, btw, nobody else in the audience heard). There's no excuse for that. read more

All of San Antonio needs to come to Marty's and find out what a fabulous place this is. They have the best drinks and specials I have ever seen and the bartenders and wait staff are so friendly, energetic, helpful, and are like family. Catherine and Joel the owners are the best people you would ever want to be around. They are there nearly every night to see that you have a good time and that you have everything you need. They have karaoke on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with John Roberts, Big John as he is known by, who is the best KJ I have been around and I used to have a karaoke show in Austin. He has thousands of songs to choose from and he helps you sound like you should be on "The Voice" with his awesome sound system. He works hard at getting the sound just right for you. Catherine, Joel , and John treat everyone that comes in there like family and they have been Fred and my family for the past several years. They help celebrate your birthday, anniversary, or whatever you would like to celebrate. They and all of us that go there cheer on the new singers and make them feel at home and comfortable. They even remodeled the inside of Marty's so their guests can feels warm and comfy when they walk in. I have been to a lot of karaoke clubs here in San Antonio and you will never find another that can match this one for service, fantastic sports bar area with big TV, pool tables, pop corn machine, darts, comfortable tables, best comedy show the first Saturday of the month, beautiful split level bar area, sound system, and the overall love that is expressed to all their guests that come into Marty's. Great place. Friendly people there and have great drinks. Karaoke three nights a week, and the sound system is excellent. A lot of really good singers, too. I've paid to see people that aren't as good as some of these are. Five star place in my book read more
