Just moved here from California, so we're pretty spoiled with sushi places, Asian restaurants and fresh fish. Maru Iyagu did not disappoint. I hesitate to order anything with unagi in it, because you can tell right away when it's not a fresh. However, that's the best way to rule out some of these sushi houses. So, we ordered rolls with unagi, we also ordered the rainbow roll which had 3 different types of fish. The special rolls we ordered had enough flavor that you didn't need anything extra on it, like soy sauce or wasabi, etc. Everything was delicious. I also noticed the menu had other Japanese fare, like Katsu curry, and some Korean, like bulgogi, which you don't always see. I will try that next time I'm here, because I will be coming back. Our server was also very sweet and had great recommendations. I wish I could remember her name ‍ The ambiance was great, no complaints there. It's near the movie theatre, so it'd be a perfect place to go before or after a movie! Maru Iyagi checked all the boxes for an enjoyable restaurant meal and experience and that's what we're reviewing on Yelp, after all, "your experience." I recommend you try it out for yourself.

If you know me, you know that I take risks with food and that's exactly what I felt like I did at Maru Iyagi. The sushi legit tasted like it was on the verge of spoiling and I had to text my coworker that I wasn't sure id make it back in the office because I might get sick. The scallop sushi was comically large, like half the size of your fist. I didn't know if they were being generous or thought it'd be funny to see someone try to take it down. It was just ridiculous lol. I asked for no eel sauce and it all came out drenched in the stuff. Not much went right... speed of service, generous portions and presentation were the good things I can come up with. I used to love this place, not sure what happened recently for the quality to decline like it has...

This was the perfect place to stop in for a Bento lunch. Miso,Salad, Tonkatsu, Calif roll, Gyoza, rice. So if you're looking for great Japanese this is not the place, but a really close 2nd. The Bento was plenty but we always have to try different things on the menu. Miso had a great flavor and bean curd thickness, light on tofu. Tankatzu was really thin and fried maybe just a bit much, so no juicy meat flavor but it still was good. Salad was a romaine with their dressing, Gyoza also fried a bit to much as opposed to pan seared. I personally prefer steamed. We came in about 30 minutes before their afternoon closing. Our service was great, food served with all the right condiments such as Sauce, wasabi, ginger. The interior was inviting and had the Asian fusion vibe, really my only issue was the horrible rap music playing and all the F-bombs in the lyrics. Not trying to turn this into a music preference post, I just think the music should go with the ambiance. Finally the Sushi roll recommended by server (playmate?) was delicious

The food was excellent, I ate the spicy crab roll and I will definitely be coming back for it! I attended there during a rush this evening and the service provided was very well for the circumstances. As for the atmosphere I have no complaints!

Huge fan of Maru Iyagi! The sushi quality is great and they have tasty roll selections! My personal favorite is the crazy roll or playboy. Service is always fantastic! The server Hazel brightens your day with her kind smile. The Resturant is always clean and has a vibrant atmosphere!

Okay first timer and I am impressed!!! We were greeted by Caitlin and she is very knowledgeable and friendly! The food comes out FRESH AND FAST! So far the whole crew has been extremely friendly and Tyler is working in the sushi bar and is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful! I think we have found a new Sushi Restaurant in Hendersonville that reminds us of San Diego. I haven't tried any sushi restaurants in downtown Nashville yet but it is on our bucket list! Solid little sushi spot near the hills of Indian lake. This is by no means authentic high class sushi like Virago but this is a staple spot needed by most mall / movie theater type places. This place gets very busy and their staffing could be better but they are pleasant and get the job done. read more

I was in the mood for some sushi and I heard about this place that everyone was talking about at work so I thought I would give it a try. I'm so glad I did because it was great and the service was very good and so friendly. The sushi was awesome,fresh,and very pleasing to the eye. It was like a work of art. Absolutely stunning example of a japanese/korean restaurant. The sushi is expertly crafted with a fine attention to detail. If you are in the mood for korean, their bulgogi and bibimbop is as good as it gets (be sure to order the hot stone bowl bibimbop, it's worth the extra $3). Expensive and very small portions. Not at all worth what I paid. $16 for bulgogi. This kid the first time I have ordered from this restaurant and it will be the last. Live and learn. And I used Uber rats, so you know those fees were tacked on. read more

Food is fine and servers are nice but this place is not having a good atmosphere. Loud music that does not fit the Japanese ambiente at all and the worst is on big screens you are bombarded with helicopter rescue missions, people having seizures and being on stretchers. It really is hard to enjoy the food and company that way. read more

I've lived in the Nashville area for four years and I have been looking for a sushi place that reminds me of home and lives up to my high sushi standards. This one does all of it. To the people preparing the food, the freshness of the fish and the kindness of the employees. I am so thrilled to have ended 2020 with this being my last meal as it is probably my favorite meal I have had in years. Thank you all for being so authentic and creating great rolls. I got the Rainbow, Tiger, Tuna Lover, Golden Gate and the traditional rainbow roll and California roll. The tuna lover is probably my favorite along with the Golden Gate roll. (Not knocking any of the others because those are also delicious). I can't wait to come back here as I am sure I'll become a regular. If you're like me, and looking for a great authentic place, you have found it. I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you all so much again! Happy New Year. read more

Wow!! 10/10, one of the best sushi places around Hendersonville for sure! I have no idea how long this was here before I actually knew of its existence, but that was definitely time wasted! Their rolls were so unique and delicious, and their Jalapeños Bombs were absolutely to die for! The location couldn't be more perfect, right inside of an adorable, bustling shopping center and beside one of my favorite movie theaters ever! This place is usually pretty busy, but I totally understand why! I'd wait forever just to eat some of their tasty cuisine. I cannot wait for more sushi!!! read more

The sushi was very fresh and delicious. They had quite a variety of options and specialty rolls. My son had the Korean BBQ and said that he preferred it at other places, but it was good. He felt the portion size was a bit smaller than other places. I thought the prices were a little higher than most of the other sushi bars around, but part of that is because of the location. The service was a little slow because one guy was taking care of the whole place. Overall, it was good. read more

Definitely exceeded my expectations! The dynamite roll was fantastic & so was the miso soup. The ginger salad was nothing special but still good. The best part of all was the fried Oreos though I was very skeptical when we ordered them but WOW. I'd come back just for those! read more

My family and I have been Mug Club members for over three years across four different locations, and we've visited every TailGate taproom except one. This opinion isn't based on one bad experience, it's a pattern we've seen across the company. As Mug Club members, we've watched the value of the program decline. They advertise 20 oz pours, yet the pours often seem noticeably short. Members were invited to a Mug Club appreciation party that advertised free beer, pizza, and a free t-shirt, only to find the free beer was limited and the "free" shirts cost $20+. On an earlier visit this year, happy hour for mug clubbers was still being advertised until 5pm, but after ordering four more beers we were told happy hour had actually been changed to end at 4 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. without any formal notice, communication to mug clubbers, nothing. We weren't informed until after we were charged full price for not 1, not 2, but 4 beers. Taken together, these experiences leave customers feeling misled rather than appreciated. The most disappointing part is the attitude toward loyal customers. Hearing "you'll be back because you're Mug Clubbers" says a lot about how ownership views the people who have supported the business for years. Loyalty feels expected rather than valued. I also have concerns about how employees are treated. TailGate advertises health insurance, yet many non-management employees reportedly aren't scheduled enough hours to qualify for those benefits. It appears that Wes (the owner) is more focused on controlling criticism and the overall narrative of the company than addressing the issues that generate it, leaving employees/managers to deal with the fallout. TailGate built its reputation on great beer, great staff, and a loyal customer base. The employees continue to deliver on that. Unfortunately, ownership's bait-and-switch approach and apparent disconnect from both customers and staff are hurting a brand that many of us genuinely want to support.
