Went for a Rotary Club event on a Thursday evening. Parking was a little tough but we managed. We ordered drinks and food at counter before we sat in the back room. Lady was very nice and welcoming. Steak was tasty but arrived cold. Didn't want to complain cause we were engaged in conversation. We will give it another try at some point. read more

We attended Stand-Up@The Garden, a free comedy show taking place at this bar and restaurant over the weekend. The venue was casual and inviting. There's some outdoor seating in the front (not being used this past Saturday in October) and a bar and pool table inside. The event was set up in the back patio, which is covered and feels like an indoor space, with lights, plant decor, large screen TV's, ample seating, and a plain stage at the corner. We ordered food and drinks at the bar. The dogfish head 60 minute IPA and lemon drop were pretty good. Our food was served to us at our table out back by friendly staff. The ceviche was a sizable tapa, with a nice citrusy mix of fresh veggies and shrimp and a generous amount of tortilla chips. The churros & chocolate came with 5 pieces, crisp and airy and delicious though a bit heavy on the powdered brown sugar. The show, hosted by Emon Dismore, was what would be expected of free stand-up comedy, my favorite comic in the lineup being Xzavier Bronson. Nothing that blew us away, but we appreciated the carefree atmosphere where we were able to enjoy a few laughs throughout the evening. read more

Funky dive bar, just the way I like them! Good beer selection, and a nice little patio in front. (There's one in the back as well, but I didn't look at it, because there was a private party going on back there.). Checked out this neighborhood bar on a Friday night & had a BLAST!! Fiancée and I walked here for date night. The bar with its dark wood is beautiful, warm, and intimate. You immediately feel comfortable walking in. We sat at the bar top and noticed friendly interactions btw the staff and regulars. Drinks were delicious!! I ordered a standard vodka soda and could tell I got a little extra vodka in there. We tried a couple of cocktails on their menu, which were delicious, well made and strong. Our awesome bartender made it less sweet per my request and offered to adjust it if it wasn't too my liking. The service and staff are AMAZING!! I forgot the personable feel & interactions of a neighborhood bar. She was attentive, funny, and genuine. The good vibes also attracts the best patrons. Definitely want to return. Pizza is very good. Love the crust. Don't like the mandatory 20% tip for ordering my food and drinks at the bar and picking it up myself. Plus there is a space for an additional tip too. Be careful when signing your bill that you don't tip 40%. Also Friday night cashier very unfriendly and rude. She needs to learn to treat customers nicer! read more

Been here a handful of times, most recently summer of 2022, and it's still a decent spot to grab a greasy meal and a pint. My go to is the fish and chips, although their burgers also hit the spot. A good comparison is the former Prince of Wales pub on 25th avenue. It's similar with a lot less stuff on the walls. And their fish and chips packs a bit more of a punch, the fish seems higher quality. I appreciate how they provide all the condiments at once so you're not fumbling around to find the malt vinegar. Since it's right on Old County Road, there is plenty of parking. Come here for a change of pace and you might find yourself becoming a regular! read more

Bar on weekend music nights is worst service on Peninsula. Waited 25 minutes to order drinks with the single bartender. Then waited in line 20 minutes for second round. Problem is all drink and food service goes through a single bartender. And a built in 20% gratuity for such crappy service. Management obviously doesn't care, and the drinks aren't cheap. The food was amazing, delicious, I got fries and they were the best I've ever had. The ambiance was perfection, a band was playing and they went hard. Friday nights at Marvin Gardens are the best! The live bands are usually from 6 to 9 PM create such a fun and lively atmosphere.

The good: ambiance - great. The back patio is extremely relaxing and sheltered from the rain and sun. Love it. Service - staff is minimal and they do their best. Large orders take some time but it's just 2-3 people running the entire place. You order at the bar and they'll bring the food to you. Food- this is where it was disappointing.... The fries were good. Sweet potato fries were adequate. But the burger patty tasted rancid. Did not taste fresh and the texture was weird. The brioche bun was good but the meat was so off that I couldn't eat it... but I did not get sick, so the meat was not spoiled but it tasted so off. I will likely come back for beer and maybe some nachos (seems safe) and it's a good place to watch a game. But burgers ... no way. read more

EMPANADAS = delicioso! First time visitor. Location: on Old County Road in Belmont on the side of the railroad tracks. Use Ralston Ave. to get there, then it'll be on your right side. Parking: there's a small lot to the left of the restaurant but wasn't sure if you can easily exit it so we parked down the block by Cologne Auto Body and Smog Express. (Don't trip on the pipes that are jutting out from the sidewalk by Smog Express!) Ambiance: old-fashioned bar atmosphere w plenty of locals at the bar, neon lighting, 4 televisions showing sports. There was a live band playing rock in the tiki-style patio in the back. Ordering process: find the woman behind the bar near the register and tell her your order and pay. If you're eating there she'll give you a number to place at your table and staff will serve your food. If you do take out she'll bring your bag of food to you. Food: ***Empanadas were the best. Beef, they also have chorizo. The crust was thin and fried just right to a nice crunch. It might've been a tortilla that had been deep fried. The filling was adequate and tasty. Fish & chips: again, the fried fish strips were good. Fries were cooked more than I prefer. Mexican salad w chicken - I ordered this because another Yelper had a photo that said "Highly recommend." It was OK but not spectacular. Oddly, I was expecting some dressing but there wasn't any. Later I found a small container of Russian(?) drawing and salsa but they were in the box with the empanadas. It was a pleasant surprise see how they remodeled everything so it was nice to hang out here again. The bartenders were super nice and friendly as well as the rest of the crew . The chef recommended me the ceviche and yes !! He was right such a delicious fresh ceviche !! He even brought it to me at the table so nice of him . defiantly coming back ! Worst burger I've had in a long time. Poor quality meat. I ordered it medium-rare. They gave me an overly, well-done patty. I gave what I didn't eat to my dog and she turned her nose up at it. Website has out-dated prices and the photos of the fries that look like homemade are a bait and switch. Awful fries with strange coating. Definitely not the yummy looking ones they show on their website. I've heard they have great pizza . . . Ambiance is nice with nice backyard patio seating. Lots of TVs for game day. read more

My husband's cousin's business is right down the street. My husband had to meet his cousin one night and they ended up at Marvin Garden's to grab a bite. My husband came home raving about the vegetarian panini!! We ended up going ourselves about a week later. AMAZING sandwich!! During the holidays we had a craving for the panini, but sadly they were closed and would be open again January 4th! I wanted to surprise my husband and bring home a sandwich. I called ahead to order and it was ready when I got there. EXCEPT ... I didn't have my cc on me and they don't take Apple Pay. I couldn't believe it. I PROMISED them I would be back to pay. I wish I knew the gentleman's name who helped me, because as I turned to go, he said go ahead and take the food. Wow!! I swore again that I would be back. I called my husband and told him the story and he said I can call and give them my cc info over the phone. Why didn't I think of that? We hung up ... he called ... and then my husband called me back and said they couldn't do it over the phone. Oh, well we tried! A couple of minutes later my husband calls me again and said Marvin Garden's called him back and said it did work!!! Yay, I could go straight home and devour this amazing sandwich!! How can you hate a place named after my second-favorite property (after Park Place, or course) in Monopoly? Well, I don't exactly hate it. Let's just say that I have been pushed out of the target audience here. I was thinking that Jamie W. and I could relax at a picnic table out back and have a burger and fries al fresco. After all, it was cited as one of the Bay Area's Best Bargain Bites in the Chronicle. I think it's a bargain for the San Carlos soccer mom making sure the team is fed or the Belmont beer-guzzling dad tired of watching the kids at home. But for me? Not so much. It looks like a dive from the front, and I assume people know to overlook the grisly entrance and go directly to the bar to order. The owner (Jamie's his name, too) is nice and accommodating when he takes the order, and off we went to the big back patio. This is where Chuck E. Cheese meets Village of the Damned. There was a quartet of tow-headed, straw-haired boys - ages 4 to 8, my guess - running riot and screaming at the top of their lungs as their indifferent German-speaking parents did nothing - NOTHING! - to handle them despite the havoc that these hell-raisers were causing toward the other customers. It was almost enough for me to remind them of the gas chambers and how the Aryan race has gone awry. In this milieu of sonic Teutonic destruction, I had a $9.75 Le Grande Burger with Fries, a good burger made of a 1/3-lb of sirloin on a French roll with lots of sauteed mushrooms, grilled onions and melty cheese (see my photo). Jamie had a $10.75 Double Bacon Cheeseburger which added the pork fat element to all the same fixings. All good, but we were subjected to the screams directed at us from these Hitler youths and couldn't fully enjoy what we had. But I really didn't want to smack the children...I just wanted to shoot the parents and revoke their licenses for reproducing ever again. Wow, I can't say enough about this place. The menu has improved significantly! The food is excellent and the service is amazing as always. The patio in the back is beautiful and really has a cozy feel at night. This is a great place to bring friends and family for fun or special occasion. Plenty of room, great ambience and great music. I personally want to thank Janaina for her outgoing attitude, beautiful smile, and great music taste! So many bars/lounges play the typical classic rock-not Marvin's! It's refreshing to hear something a bit heavier and ironically makes for good conversation with many of the others at the bar. I used to really like their pizza. Very independent establishment- there were times when it was supposed to be open that they were closed. I opened the door once and was told they were closed. I asked why and was told because they wanted to. So I haven't been back for quite a while until today when I was driving by and I thought I wanted the pizza I used to get there. Crispy meaty pancetta with garlic- it was so yummy! Fast forward to today WOW! The pizza literally looks like there's almost no toppings and I even added arugula but what you can see and what you can taste is fat. And it has a rancid taste to it I have not gotten out of my mouth yet -this picture is what my pancetta looked like! How can they put ALL chunks of fat on a $24 pizza?!! On ANY pizza?... where is the meat/bacon? Literally no meat, about four pieces had a tiny portion of meat and I have found about five chunks of garlic in analyzing the pizza. One positive- The girl at the bar is a sweetheart and when I called up to say I can't even eat it, it's got such a weird off taste to it and so much fat she made it right. But definitely makes me never want to go back for pizza and I will probably stick with Amici's from now on. So disappointing! Otherwise it's a really cool rustic looking establishment that looks like it's in the mountains somewhere with a patio and a big variety of cocktails if that's what you're looking for. I would totally go there for cocktails! I don't know about the other food but there's quite a selection of beer and mixed drinks.
