My wife, our 5-year-old, and I love spending time in San Carlos--between the parks, the closed-down streets, and a stop at The Reading Bug, it's a great family outing. I'm a simple man: beer and a burger usually does the trick. Cask always delivers. I normally go with the sliders (can't miss), but today I told my wife that if the fish & chips were good enough, it might be Yelp-worthy. Well... here we are. So I went there on a Wednesday at around 1 pm . It was a perfect place for some office colleagues to hang out and have a nice lunch . We chose the outdoor seating which was very nice . We parked our cars right across the street in public parking. It was a short 2 min walk from the parking . Our server was very helpful, she helped us in choosing the right dish for us and food was served very fast . I ordered a chicken Piccata and the sauce was awesome. My friend and I came here for a girls night and we got two wine flights - the delicious whites and the Chardonnay and omg, both were perfectly curated and delicious. Cask isn't your snooty wine bar. It really is a classy, welcoming spot for a nice quiet conversation where you won't be embarrassed to take anyone, whether a date, friend or even colleagues you may not know too well. The atmosphere doesn't come across cheap, but the wine prices and the food are very reasonable. It's not vernacular and you can mark an occasion, but again, it's so approachable in downtown San Carlos. At first glance, you may wonder if it is a wine bar or a restaurant. And yes, given you are in San Carlos residential area, you cannot go for the high-end premium luxury wine bar experience. But also, if you go too low, you can't call yourself a wine bar. And this is what Cask does so well. You aren't pressured to dress up, but you'll also fit right in if you've gone all out. Wine selection is a bit small and I wouldn't say they have opted for the truly expensive wines. They have good coverage but I would've loved to have seen more Italian, French and other wines. The mark up wasn't too bad but again, when I'm out at a wine bar, I'd like to be a bit more adventurous and try things out. Each glass were healthy portions and I genuinely enjoyed my Pinots with the cheese plate as well as the flatbread. Cask is an essential constituent for Laurel St. Without it, I don't know where a few adults can go for a quiet conversation, somewhat dressed up. I didn't know what to expect at this restaurant, since I did not pick the restaurant, but I'm so glad that I went. I have been kind of looking for a nice Italian restaurant to go to. I had the chicken piccata and it was very good. The chicken was tender and the sauce was delicious. We have been coming here for years and we love it. It is one of those neighborhood places that always makes you feel welcome and like you're being greeted by family/friends. My wife and I had the $20 lunch special today. It includes soup or salad, entree, mixed vegetables, potatoes and dessert of ice cream or sorbet. She had the salmon and mushroom soup, and I went for the chicken piccata and salad. We were both very pleased with our lunch and the $5 glasses of chardonnay and cabernet. We were also happy with the excellent service and the comfortable decor, lots of outdoor seating, a little too chilly for that today though, enjoyed the eclectic mix of music from my era, from R.E.M. to the Scorps. We had never been here before, saw some glowing reviews on Nextdoor and had to give it a go, we'll be coming back to try other things on their menu, the lamb burger looks delicious, as well as the extensive wine list. This was our third or fourth visit to Cask over the years. It's become a tradition to have dinner here before going to see the holiday lights on Eucalyptus Street. We always enjoy the heater outdoor patio and the service is fantastic. Tonight we enjoyed the Cask's Mixed Green salad with/ dried cranberries, candied walnuts, carrots and house-made red wine vinaigrette, the Green Apple and Prosciutto Flat Bread w/Fig spread, brie cheese, fresh basil and a couple pasta dishes; Rigatoni Salsiccia (pasta tossed with Italian sausage, fresh herbs, roasted bell pepper light cream marinara sauce and parmesan cheese) and Gnocchi Carciofi (potato pasta tossed with artichoke hearts, grilled chicken breast, fresh tomato and basil pesto light cream sauce) Finished with the Apple Tart and Chocolate Lava Cake. I went to The Cask on a date earlier this week and we had an excellent experience! They have an extensive selection of wines, and my date and I split the Green Apple and Prosciutto Flatbread and the Kale and Quinoa Salad. Both were DELICIOUS! Went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. They have plenty of nice outdoor seating and we found a space right away. Ordered a glass of Chardonnay and some soft drinks which arrived promptly. For food we ordered the fig and green apple flatbread and I had the ribeye tacos from the specials menu. Took a while for food to come out. The tacos were good, maybe a bit overloaded so it was a bit hard to taste the ribeye. The flatbread has a nice flavor combination and I liked it better than the tacos. Been here twice now for their weekday $20 lunch 3 course menu. I've gotten the fish dish both times and it's really nicely prepared. Portions are small given it's a lunch set but you don't walk away hungry. Salted caramel ice cream is served with a tiny spoon of salt for sprinklings which I find adorable. It came with sweet potato fries which were perfectly crispy. The Caesar salad was good, but nothing special. I probably wouldn't order it again. My mom got one of the specials which had fettuccine with white sauce, mini scallops, jumbo shrimp, and peas. I tried a few bites and that was definitely the star of the show. Just had lunch with a friend today. Have been several times for lunch and dinner and has always been great. Was not crowded at all, sat outside and chose the 3 course lunch menu which has always been great. My friend got her soup, had to ask for my salad....finally came with my meal. My piccata was probably 1/4 " thick and probably 1oz no sauce just capers. No one came to check on us. Had to flag someone for another glass of wine. Then to pay our bill we had to walk inside to ask for the check. The bartender was so doing everything, manager doing nothing and bus boy???? Nothing! We stopped into the Cask for a mid-week lunch. We decided to try the 3-course lunch special. Mushroom soup was the soup of the day. It was hearty, thick, and topped with a crunchy crouton and drizzled with flavored oil. The side salad was pretty standard but tasty. As an entree, we both got the chicken piccata. The chicken breast was tender and the sauce was quite good. It came with rather bland steamed veggies and somewhat gluey potatoes. The service was interesting - we were rushed during the first 2 courses but then had difficulty getting any attention prior to and after the dessert course. All in all, we found The Cask to be just OK. With downtown San Carlos having so many options, we will probably explore other places before giving this another try. read more

*PARKING: The street is closed off so that restaurants can set up their outdoor dining areas. So you'll have to park at the closest side street in the residential area. The upside is, parking is free! It'll just be a short walk to the restaurant. *EXPERIENCE: We came here around 6:30PM to catch the basketball game and it was not packed at all. Very chill and low key. Most patrons there weren't super into the game although they have like 4 TVs in the indoor seating area. If you're looking for an exciting place to watch any basketball game, this ain't it. Because they weren't busy, I did appreciate that they let us stay til the end of the game and slowly enjoy our beers. We did not feel rushed at all. Service was also good and they came by a couple times to fill our waters and check if we needed anything else. FOOD: I got the San Carlos burger with fries for around $21 and also a golden state cider for $8. The burger was massive and juicy but definitely not the best burger I've had. On the 4th of July we came to a dinner with our family; many places in San Carlos were closed and we decided to try to eat at this establishment. There were a lot of people both inside and outside the establishment, and there were only two waiters among the service staff, which confused me. They were in a great hurry, running from one table to another, we waited 10 minutes for our order to be taken. To the question "what steaks do you recommend?" the waiter answered very fussily and spoke reluctantly. The food was brought quickly, but unfortunately there was not enough another pair of utensil on the table. We ordered a salad, appetizer and steak, food was delicious . A very beautiful, atmospheric restaurant with excellent food and drinks, but knowing that on holidays it could be full of visitors, only two people worked.
