Fantastic and affordable tailors are hard to come by. After coming to the realization I would never be my wedding weight again (this was a big moment for me but had to happen), I decided to have my tux pants brought out a bit. I needed these pants for a friend's wedding so I called in advance to make sure the turnaround time was reasonable. I was assured it would be no problem if I came in that day. Upon arriving, Mary and Patty were quick to take me back, do measurements, hand me a ticket, and send me on my way. The pants were ready with a very reasonable return time (even with prom season happening and they were clearly very busy). I have been going to Mary & Patty for over 25 years at the recommendation of a friend, and since then I have recommended them to many others! They do impeccable work, are reasonably priced, and it's part of the reason why they are very busy. If they cannot do a job or they are overbooked, they will be honest and tell you "no". Other places in the area use part-time people to do the work that is supposed to be done by the shop operator and the work quality suffers, or the prices are astronomical. Mary and Patty do ALL of the work themselves and do not use "workers" to fulfill any of their jobs. They refuse to compromise on quality by rushing jobs or overbooking themselves. They are also very au current with fashion and offer their well-informed opinions on the work to be done. So i had gone to Rk bridal to get my wedding dress they had recommended to Mary and party so i called them before i came i had ask if you needed an appointment they said no so once i got my wedding dress in my hands it's still in the box i go to Mary and patty's i go hello how are you no response they are not friendly they said to me when is my wedding i said June 5 and before i said anything the had already said no I had said can I tell you what I need done with my wedding dress they look like they didn't wanna be bothered so i told them and they said A BIG NO and that they don't have time they way they said it to me i was crying upset frustrated then they tell me to go somewhere else now i found a great place in NJ who is accommodating nice and friendly i just can't believe i have to cross the bridge just to get my wedding dress alteration done read more

I have used Mary and Patty for many years. They are more than fairly priced and their work is perfect. During the height of prom and wedding season you will need to wait a little longer to get your alterations done. They do a large volume of work during this time and you should plan accordingly. These folks do very good alterations at a reasonable price. I have had suits taken in, hemming, waist, seat, etc. Always reasonable, always well-done. Heed my one bit of advice though -- try to avoid Prom Season (Junish) as they are SWAMPED with dresses etc. read more

Mary and Patty are incredibly talented and I would recommend them to anyone. I walked in with a wedding dress that was 8 sizes too big (that's not an exaggeration [I got it from an off-the-rack-you-get-what-you-get place]), and they worked a miracle. I picked it up yesterday and it looks beautiful and fits perfectly. I am so grateful for the work they put in to the dress and will definitely be going back for other alteration services. They are the real deal. The negative reviews likely have to do with the fact that they have more work than they could ever manage. They are a victim of their success in that way, so yes you need to leave stuff there way in advance and yes you have to pay cash and yes they may be a little short when they are busy and yes they don't really need your business. I used them a few years ago for my wedding dress for alterations and a complicated multi point french bustle, dress was perfect in fit and bustle was gorgeous. I had looked all over Westchester for a reasonable and skilled seamstress and was so grateful to find Mary and Patty, they were on time with their estimates and were very accomodating. What really made me want to give a full 5 stars was we had an emergency 2 weeks before my wedding with one of my bridesmaids dress being order regular height when she had paid for the extra length since she is very tall. This was so hard since it was too late that the bridal shop couldn't order another or compensate my friend (hence I wonder why the bridal shop is no longer in business). We took the dress to Mary and Patty in desperation with extra fabric we found in a fabric store that was close to this "wine" color as possible and sheen. Mary and Patty worked their magic and you couldn't even tell the dress was 1 foot too short, it was flawless. Relieved bridesmaid. Thank you Mary and Patty! read more

Small shop, but they do good work for a reasonable price. I got the hem of a bridesmaid dress altered here and they were able to do it in a good amount time. I came here in May-early June so I think the delay was from all the prom dresses that needed to be altered. Be warned however, they only take cash!! read more

I have tried other places that are more convenient but each time I have been sorry I haven't made the drive to Thornwood. I even took my father to them when he was ill and all his clothes became too big and they rushed the job. They are fantastic. read more

Great place to go for alterations! I had my wedding dress altered here several years ago and it came out great. Very nice ladies, quick turn around times, and fair prices. I have also brought several pairs of pants in to be hemmed with good results. My husband recently had them do measurements for a tux as well (a rental place that mails it to you before the wedding). read more

The service here is terrible and the alterations are way overpriced. The ladies are surprisingly rude - they gave me attitude for wanting to pick up something up in under a few weeks. That being said, if you want to pay an exorbitant amount of money for something that won't be ready for a month, go for it. read more

A friend recommended Mary and Patty for alterations of two dresses. One had a gaping neckline but otherwise fit ok and the other needed to be hemmed and have buttons moved but no major fit alterations. After they marked up the dresses I was told that they wouldn't get the dresses back to me for 3 weeks. I wasn't given a receipt - just told that they'd call when the dresses were done and was told to write my name and phone number on a post-it pad. 3.5 weeks went by and I was never called. I called on a Friday of a holiday weekend and was told that she didn't know where my dresses were, but they'd be ready by Tuesday, so I waited a month for a rushed job. The dress still gapped at the neck and had a weird bubble at the waist. The other dress was too long and one of the buttons that was moved popped off when trying on the dress for the first time. And I was charged $60. Will not be returning. read more

Mary and Patty are very good. I have been using there services for many years and they can handle an easy hem to a much more complicated reconstruction of a dress or suit. They are reasonably priced and very sweet. The only downside is you need to have the time to wait two weeks for your items and sometimes a little longer than that. read more
