First of all, Dr. Powers and her staff couldn't be nicer. When my mom died, she gifted me a crystal rose. She's just about the nicest person you'll ever meet. A few things went awry during my breast implant removal surgery. I knew there was a chance of losing a nipple, and I did. The other nipple ended up crooked and my breast has necrotizing tissue under the skin. I don't like to look in the mirror. She did tattoo me a set of nipples. Dr. Powers offered me a discount on a tummy tuck so I had it done. She sent me to a recovery facility where they encouraged me to walk upright and my wound opened up. Instead of gluing me back shut she allowed it to scar over the open tissue, making a scar so thin that the waistband of my underwear rubs against it and opens a wound which is easily infected. This went on for over a year with bandages and ointment from my PCP. Finally I came up with the idea of wearing maternity underwear and that seems to fix it. The underwear comes up to my bust. I'm going to have to wear the maternity underwear for the rest of my life or get a painful wound. read more

I feel so blessed to have had the privilege to work with Dr. Powers twice. Once in the early 2000's and once again in 2023. Every aspect of working with Dr. Powers is delightfully enjoyable. When I got my breast implants, liposuction and mini tummy tuck done in 2000 I remember so vividly how in awe of I was of her stitches. The first time I sought out Dr. Powers I was in my mid 20's and I felt insecure and uncomfortable in my own body. I found it hard to look at myself naked or be seen naked. I needed Dr. Powers after my 2nd baby had turned 1 or two years old. My 2nd pregnancy left me feeling like I was swimming in a sea of loose skin and stretch marks. I had rapidly gained and lost a lot of weight in a short period of time. As I was recovering from my surgery I remember looking at my sutures in complete awe. They were so small and so perfectly put in that I found it hard to believe that they were done by a human being. I would have sworn they were done on a sewing machine. Between her gluing my skin, stitching my skin and placing vitamin E oil tape over the stitches I was left with nothing more that an indistinguishable crease line that seemed to be a naturally occurring pattern on my skin. In addition to her great skills and work ethic she is a delightful person to talk with. Her impressively wide depth of knowledge extends in so many directions I always find myself learn something new. All you have to do is talk with Dr. Powers briefly to see how truly remarkable she is as a Surgeon and as an individual person. Hand to goddess without fail I always find myself gut laughing during every conversation we have. In addition to the amazing services I received from Dr. Powers I cannot sing Dr. Andrew Kim praises enough. As an anesthesiologist he has the most incredible bedside manner. Like Dr. Powers Dr. Kim is a fascinating individual who is very passionate and knowledgeable about his his work. He made my experience so special that even though he and I are not socially acquainted he made me feel as if our hearts were old friends. We spoke at great length about our mutual love of music. After meeting with two other plastic surgeons (all three came recommended to us by our primary care physician ), my 18 year old daughter and I both felt the most confident in Dr Powers for my daughter's breast reduction. Procedure: Breast Augmentation Patient Care: Dr. Powers went ABOVE AND BEYOND to provide me with excellent patient care. She is very thorough and explains everything very clearly. She spent over an hour with me during my initial consultation and answered all my questions enthusiastically. I had my surgery done at Community Hospital of Long Beach and I was really impressed with her team. From the nurses to the anesthesiologist, I felt incredibly cared for and comfortable. The whole team is very supportive, friendly and caring. After my procedure, I received almost a DAILY call/text asking if I was doing okay and if I had any questions. I am so happy with my decision to have a facelift. I interviewed several surgeons over a 10 year period, and am and so glad that I chose Dr. Powers to do the job. First: Getting this surgery was a huge decision, medically and financially. I actually spoke to Dr. Powers first, but I was not ready to pull the trigger. After marinating with the idea and talking to several other doctors, I came back to Dr. Powers because she was the most down to earth, realistic and least egotistical. She didn't patronize me the way a few of the male doctors did. She understood that I wanted to look refreshed and less saggy, but that I did not want anything done that would make me look "startled"(Kenny Rogers), or stiff, or ...well, we have all seen the "overdone" face. Additionally, her estimate of costs was very reasonable, with each item broken out so I could make an informed financial decision. Second: My experience with the doctor and her staff was 100% positive during the months leading up to the surgery. The reason there were months was due to my work schedule, not Dr. Powers'. When I was having doubts and second thoughts, she was available by email and phone. She was willing to meet with me in person to help calm my panic after a particularly disturbing appointment I had with another doctor about corrective surgery that I need to have. He freaked me out! She calmed me, answered all of my questions, and showed me more of her work, and made previous patients available as referrals.. I felt reassured. Lastly, my husband was confident in her also, so big plus. Her office staff is super friendly and helpful. Third: Going in to get the surgery was great. The surgery center was local and well equipped. Her nurses are the nicest people ever, of all time, so calming and reassuring. My surgery took a long time, so I stayed overnight. Everything went right. I felt safe and well cared for. Fourth: I am, at this time, 11 days post-op and I couldn't be happier with the job...of course there is still some swelling, but it is obvious that this is going to look great when all the swelling comes down. With any cosmetic surgery, you need to be realistic about what you are starting with and what can be realistically accomplished. A facelift will not fix every single line on your face. Skin ages, loses elasticity and requires care. As Dr. Powers said today, taking care of the skin is like putting the final coat of paint on your remodeled house. She knows. I have been seeing Dr. Mary Powers for about ten years and recently flew from Cape Cod where I had moved to from Seal Beach. I had my upper lids, lower lids and a mini lift in her rooms in Long Beach in January 20She did it without anesthesia, just local in her rooms. I am positively thrilled with the results. I scheduled an appointment for some botox injections. I was put into a small opratory and waited 40 minutes. That was long enough to assess how dirty it was. Thick dust on every piece of furniture. I'd never let her near me again! I had a full facelift nearly 2 years ago. She created horizontal lines from my ears almost to my mouth from the way she pulled the skin back and pinned it or whatever they do. Before the surgery I explained to her that I was adamant about NO fillers. After the surgery, I said how unhappy I was with those lines and she said, "Oh we can use fillers." Yikes!! I have been hesitating writing this review, but after reading some of the other reviews, I thought it was time to speak up. This has been bothering me for years, and I want others to know what I sent through with this physician. I went for a consultation for a breast augmentation. I was referred to Dr. Powers, so I was confident of her abilities. She was polite, and after some time, I stated I would have the surgery. I left the size up to her in regards to my body size. To get to the chase, my breasts came out larger than I expected, but that is nothing compared to the bigger problem. After, Dr. Powers removed the rap and bandages, my left was higher than the right side. When I would flex my muscle, the left side of my breast would move ip higher. It looked terrible. She told me it would relax and slower move down. Wrong! I was so self conscience about it, I always tried to hide it. I asked and asked her about it, but her only response was that she did what she was suppose to do. That was not true. Finally. I went in for another surgery so she could attempt to resolve this problem. Botyom line, there was no change. So, I went through all of that for nothing. Fast forward, I brought up the problem again. Dr. Powers asked me when I was going yo have surgery to fix the problem. She stated that she would take out the implants, and replace the implants, then place the imllanys on top of the muscle. But, I would have to pay all over again out of my pocket. Isn't that great? I spent all that money for nothing, and I would have to pay again. That wasn't going to happen. This was her mistake. I went to two other plastic surgeons and both of them told me what she had done wrong, and what it would take to resolve the problem. I was so saddened by what happened. Dr. Power's never took any responsibility for what happened during surgery, and she never said stated she would redo the surgery at no cost to me. In addition, her office manager at the time was so, so rude to me when I told her I was unhappy with the results, and that I had two other consultations. Yes, this happened years ago, but the problem with my left breast occured directly after the surgery, not years later. I did get the problem resolved by another plastic surgeon. As far as patient care goes, Dr. Powers does go above and beyond to care for her patients, but when it came to the results I was told I would see after liposuction, they did not deliver. I was told I would see 70% reduction in fat and I didn't see anything. I kept being patient as I was constantly being told I had to wait 3-5 months to see final results. I never went down 1 inch or even 1 lb. I paid $7500 for nothing!! I was never more disappointed in my life. I repeatedly expressed my concern and Dr Powers kept telling me I needed to be patient. She tried to show me the before and after pictures to prove loss, but there was no difference at all only to prove I was right. I'm so glad I didn't book any other procedures. From the moment I met with her and her wonderful, very supportive staff, I knew she would be the perfect doctor to answer my requests. She is an extraordinary professional who cares tremendously about her patients and their comfort. My husband, who is a doctor, went with me to my appointment and throughout my pre-op, surgery and post op period of time, which wasn't very long compared to other friends who have had the same procedures done. She called me several times before the surgery and daily during and after my recovery. I have never been happier with my "new look." I feel refreshed and more than 10 years younger! I am no longer focusing on my wrinkles, having to wrap my neck in scarves all the time. Dr. Sullivan, my anesthesiologist, was amazing as well as the staff at Long Beach Memorial Community Hospital. I had my mini facelift and lipo of my chin yesterday. I had no general anesthesia and was scared. Dr. Powers and Isabelle calmed my nerves. Held my hand. Sung to me. It was a little long day. Recovering today . But they called me and comforted my fears all the way. Dr. Powers was confident, took her time, is a true artist. Dr. Mary Powers is a gifted plastic surgeon whose surgical skill, compassion for her patients, and thorough post-surgical follow-up are just a few of the many qualities that make her stand out in her profession. I decided to see her after a friend whose appearance I complimented confided that Dr. Powers had given her a facelift.
