I had a case of severe stretch marks and my rectus abdominis was stretched beyond non-surgical options. I am very physically active my routine included crossfit, aerial yoga, hoops and dancing. My abdomen skin was floppy and I had a pouch no matter how much I exercised It was embarrassing to lift my arms fearing my abdomen would show. I was referred to Dr. Hicks by one of my Crossfit buddies. She told me he was great and he had a payment plan I was so excited. I made an appointment immediately for a consultation. I scheduled my procedure for December 14, 2019. I met with him a week before my surgery and I was able to ask him questions and discuss any concerns that I may have. He was honest and realistic in what outcome could be expected for my condition. I really appreciated his honesty. However, the results were better than I could every imagine. I received a Christmas card from the office wishing me Merry Christmas and a speedy recovery. If that wasn't enough, Dr. Hicks called me 3 days post op to check on me and one of his staff members called me 4 days post op to check one me. I went in weekly for about 3 weeks to be checked. He cleared me to receive Lymphatic drainage massages by Malena. I highly recommend these massages. The massages helped me to stand up straighter, decreased swelling, decreased soreness and just felt good. I had stretch marks above my navel so those remain, but they're not very visible and I can rock a two piece with no shame to my game. My body is summer ready. I flew over 2,500 miles just to see Dr. Powers, after getting glowing reviews from friends and having wonderful phone consultations with her. Everyone from her staff to the hospital staff were outstanding and they all said the same thing "I wouldn't trust anyone else with my surgeries. Dr. Powers is the best!" She truly lived up to those reviews. After my surgery, she personally checked up on me to make sure I was healing well. She even made sure I sent her emails twice a week with photo updates. A few things went awry during my breast implant removal surgery. I knew there was a chance of losing a nipple, and I did. The other nipple ended up crooked and my breast has necrotizing tissue under the skin. I don't like to look in the mirror. She did tattoo me a set of nipples. Dr. Powers offered me a discount on a tummy tuck so I had it done. She sent me to a recovery facility where they encouraged me to walk upright and my wound opened up. Instead of gluing me back shut she allowed it to scar over the open tissue, making a scar so thin that the waistband of my underwear rubs against it and opens a wound which is easily infected. This went on for over a year with bandages and ointment from my PCP. Finally I came up with the idea of wearing maternity underwear and that seems to fix it. The underwear comes up to my bust. I'm going to have to wear the maternity underwear for the rest of my life or get a painful wound.

When I walked in, he immediately knew what I had and got me started on some serious meds right away. Not wanting me on these medications long-term, he started me on a biologic, and he fought my insurance for over a year when they denied what he prescribed. He also ensured I had plenty of samples of this (expensive) medication while we continued to appeal. This was a lifesaver for me since my condition was so bad I could hardly walk, and this biologic gave me life back. When he left the practice, the mismanagement at this office just got worse. This place was a cattle call, and the new doctor couldn't keep up. They overscheduled patients to the point where waiting times grew to over an hour, and people were lined up in the hallway. It was obvious he was the one holding the place together. I'm now seeing a new physician, but I am grateful to Erik for the care he provided to me while at the other practice. I wish I could have moved with him to this location, but unfortunately, it's not in my provider network. I wish him all the best and would definitely recommend him.
