In my experience with consigning a courbette vision saddle, it was quick to sell. Less than a week. Took almost 3 months and multiple phone calls to get paid. I was tracking the saddle on their website so I know when it was sold. Maryland Saddlery never notified me. I wouldn't consign with them but I might shop for saddle pads or halters. read more

This Maryland Saddlery location was the highlight of a recent visit to the Hunt Valley area. The ladies here are welcoming and helpful, and there is an INCREDIBLE selection of used/consignment items. I am a big fan of both saving money and the environment, so I was psyched to be able to secure used items for my first attempt at a winter hunt ensemble- a thick wool coat, a canary vest, and boots- for under $100 in total. The deals on boots, in particular, were amazing. It takes a little energy to browse the racks, so you have to be in the right mood, but it is well worth the effort. The store also has a loyalty program with "points," etc. I look forward to stopping by next time I'm in the area, and also plan to check out the other locations. read more

Due to a bad fall and subsequent shoulder surgery, I was unable to drive for a couple of months, so a good friend took my Passier double bridle to Maryland Saddlery to sell. The store did contact me about the arrangement but never supplied a contract, never heard from them. When I called, they told me that they had sold it and that I should wait a couple weeks and request a payment on the website. Never heard from them! No payment. They took advantage of me and never bothered to contact me. I have requested the payment but not sure if I will ever see the money! Very disappointed and will never use them again. read more

On March 18, 2023 mid-afternoon, I drove for 45 minutes to consign a few saddles (2 dressage and 1 endurance) at Maryland Saddlery in Crofton. When I arrived, even though there were no customers in the store, I was told that they would deal with me on the front porch. It was a cold and windy day so I had to go back to my car and get my winter coat. The young girl employee with a snobby aire came out to evaluate my tack. She pointed to my endurance saddle and informed me that they do not accept "western." Then, despite the fact that Maryland Saddlery is currently listing a Smith Worthington dressage saddle, she looked over my Smith Worthington dressage saddle (in "like new" condition) and said something to the effect of, "Smith Worthington is essentially a 'no-name' saddle and we do not take 'no-name' saddles." She then suggested putting the saddle on a donation pile for items not good enough for them to sell. She did say that they would take the Anky dressage but at that point I was not seeing this in a positive light. So I took all three saddles back home. This was a very insulting interaction and a total waste of valuable weekend time. read more

Every horse person knows that if you spend enough time with horses you will accumulate mountains of stuff, especially if you own a horse. But what to do with it when your horse retires or you no longer need it? Most of my stuff was doomed to the dark corners of my tack box until I found Maryland Saddlery. I was able to take all my unused stuff (does my one horse really need 7 blankets? 9 halters??) and convert it to credit for things I actually needed! I worked with the Butler consignment store over the phone and the Crofton store in person and have been impressed overall. Yea, sometimes the folks working aren't the friendliest but they are knowledgeable and will help when asked- but that happens EVERYWHERE. 99.9% of the time you are met with a cheerful face. Their trial policy on consignment saddles can't be beat- 7 days to try out a saddle? How many retail locations will let you do that? Great place to tack for your horse that doesn't necessarily need to be brand spanking new - I picked up stirrup leathers for a lesson saddle for $10! Bet my Mom wishes this place existed when I was a little kid so she could have saved a few bucks on all my riding gear and swapped my outgrown stuff for new things. read more

I had a similar experience as the first reviewer. My first time at the tack shop I visited both stores, the regular shop had a nice variety of equine supplies and the staff was very sweet and friendly. When i went into the consignment store there was only one lady there and she greeted us and explained the consignment, i ended up spending a couple hundred dollars that day. I got beautiful tall boots, a halter, a slinky, riding pants and gloves for my daughter and many more items, all at a great price. I was so excited to find such a nice consignment shop and not too far from my horse. I went back with my mom and my two visits since then were polar opposite experiences in regards to the consignment shop ( the main shop has always remained pleasant and helpful). There were three ladies in the consignment shop both times, none of which greeted us and they even seemed to be whispering and laughing which of course made us uncomfortable. When I asked questions about consignments I had dropped off their answers were quick and snobby, especially from the blonde ( who seems to think she's above working there). We purchased a few more items, and upon leaving noticed the green tags were on sale, which my mom and I both had. When we mentioned this to them. They said it applied to Kelly green tags not hunter green tags, even though our tags were the exact same as the one displayed as the example. Needless to say I won't go there unless I have to. Im giving them two stars, they do have a great selection and the customer service in the main shop is great but the consignment workers need a few lessons in customer service. read more

I love this place and these ladies! They have some awesome clothing now and not just for horse people. I bought 2 adorable tops last time I popped in. The have a great selection of hats also! Perfect for Preakness. The store has cute jewelry also and you will definitely find something even if you're not a horse person. First, I'm not a horse person, but my kids are. Truthfully, I could be sold anything at any price related to riding and I'd have no idea whether I was getting ripped off or if I even needed what I was buying. I've had great experiences at Maryland Saddlery every time I go- the salespeople are always helpful and always straightforward about what I can get from consignment and what I should buy new. But what really, really made me give this place 5 stars was my last experience there. I was pregnant, and had my 2, 4, and 6 year-old kids with me. My 4 year old threw up, without any warning, (apparently she is a ninja puker) and the two sales ladies were phenomenal. Got paper towels, helped me get myself and her cleaned up, and were very understanding about the entire situation. They even gave the girls some horse stickers as we made our very messy way out the door. I'm not too sure I would have had such understanding folks at another store. Maryland Saddlery has definitely earned my family's business! read more
